Hah! I wonder if it has anything to do with the e-mail I sent to Peter Chou (htc's CEO) regarding their blatant disregard for GPL rules and continued dishonesty with the community? I'd like to think it was. I'll just pretend for the moment that I made it happen (lol, somehow I doubt it).
I called them on their BS on claiming that the community agreed that 90-120 days was acceptable.
Without a real kernel dev this isn't much worth, in the one x forum's are still not stable and there are real pro's.

I'm pretty sure I know why they waited. Today was the beginning of the update for the One S on T-Mobile US. If I'm not mistaken, T-Mobile's One S is the last one to get the radio and software update to match the rest of the One S devices. So it sort of makes sense, they didn't release the kernel sources until after the update was ready. I, personally, am not bothered cuz I just got my One S today, but I can completely understand the frustration for the 1st day buyers on T-Mo, and the global versions, since you guys have been waiting months now, it would seem. Either way, It's here now, and that means we all will get to reap the benefits. Now, where's my OTA already? LOL

While it does seem that HTC waited for the update to release the source... It's unfortunate that they didn't include the source for the US Tmobile version yet.... This probably won't be an issue since most run EU roms anyways(AOKP for me)... The One X for At&t is still waiting for source... As torxx mentioned source means nothing without someone to develop a kernel... Hopefully we will see something on the horizon sooner rather than later

S4 source should be fairly stable. I should have a kernel built for you guys later tonight. One x tegra source was a mess which is why tegra is taking awhile.

I just noticed that myself. Seems odd. Maybe someone can find out what version the kernel is and compare it to the sources already posted. It seems, however, that this 1.84 update hasn't hit any XDA members yet, since I haven't seen anyone on here post that they received it yet. I saw a lot of talk about an unlocked bootloader being enough to prevent an update from being performed, but I think it's all rumor. I could be wrong though. I have yet to unlock the bootloader & root, because I'm waiting to find out what issues I will run into later. For instance, this Tampered banner sort of has me worried. Plus, re-locking the device has its own separate banner from Locked? Has me really concerned about any potential warranty exchanges in the future, should my device need one. Hopefully this all gets sorted out. I'm really liking Sense, this is my first time using it, and fortunately I got a slimmed down version, vs. 3.x & older. But I do have an itch to go back to some AOSP ICS like I had going on my G2x last month. Either way, I haven't even signed into my Google account yet, and I've had the phone about 7 hours now. There's plenty to do without needing to enter my Google credentials.

Found on the HTC support site I know that everyone is saying it wont get it due to no dual core but could they somehow optimize it for us? most likely AT&T wouldnt be getting the upgrade because they are lame but what about unlocked inspires? Just wanted to share this with the community

ICS is out (beta form) and there really isn't any need for another pointless ICS thread. It's been covered. The inspire will get it. Whether it's an official release from AT&T or not, the inspire has it. end of story.

Yes I have but just because a phone Can run it doesn't mean we will get it As so my friend has the incred. and He most likely wont be getting it but his phone could handle it and there are roms for his phone
I know rooted phones will obviously be getting4.0 but I'm talking about non rooted inspires

Unless ist a custom Rom inspires have about a 5% chance of getting it. If they do get it then it won't be until next winter at least as the inspire has already been deemed EOL by ATT

Besides, officially, the latest we can get from HTC will ne the 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0 that just went out to unlocked Desire HDs over in Europe. That we should definitely see in "Early 2012".

...oh yeah, non-rooted phones because you know, that was stated in the OP how silly of me to not infer this. Like I said and my comment speaks for itself, whether or not we get ICS officially isn't the question, the beta is out, rooted phones will get it. If you or anyone likes ICS that much and needs it, consider getting a phone that will support it non-rooted or just root your inspire if it means that much. Again, another pointless thread about ICS. Nothing has changed, it is still the same information.
AT&T always ends life of a phone after 2-3 updates. They don't support phones for very long because they're more worried about making money from new phones. If they supported their old phones, they'd lose their precious money.

Not only will ICS run perfectly fine on a single core fun (I have Beta IV) it uses less RAM than gingerbread does.
And I know this isn't the right place for it, but because I have no other posts I can't ask in development...
Have any of you guys found an Undervoltable Kernel that will work with ICS?
This really is gonna be a never ending issue. This will always be happening unless you get a nexus or euro unbranded version of the phone. As long as the carriers control the updates we may get one maybe two updates but that will be about it. This has always been and always will be the case
Absolutely love ICS. just waiting for it to be bug free. Unfortunately, I think driver support will be limited unless released by HTC.

Well see thats the thing. HTC nor anyone else has or will ever release the driver source code as it is not theirs to give. This has always been my issue with AOSP roms. the open source drivers just cant stand up to the OEM drivers.

Basically you slide along the capacitive buttons to wake, and slide the other way to turn the screen off. Would be AMAZINGLY better than having to reach up to the power button. (Even with my large hands it's a pain). Any chance of you awesome, amazing, handsome/beautiful, devs implementing this?
It is possible. Though i believe we will need some kernel experts, and kernel Source.

IF we get kernel source. AT&T will release it when this phone is a year old and not many people at buying it anymore. It baffles me that they can get away with not releasing it.

Based on what happened with the One S, it seems like the kernel source for our One X, probably labeled for the Rogers One X, will be released around the beginning of July, around 2 months after the release date.
We may not get the kernel source targeted specifically towards the AT&T version, but Rogers got the bootloader unlock, so I highly doubt they won't get the kernel source either. HTC just seems to have some 60 day window on their kernel source drops.

I always wonder, who enforces the source code thing? Sure "legally obligated" blah blah but who actually brings up the suit?
Well any one of us could, but usually its a large organization like the EFF or some group that enforces GPL policy.

I've never had to be this patient with any Android device I've owned but that's maybe because this is my first AT&T phone. The only thing that keeps me on this phone is imagining the amount of ROM's that will flood the development section once the source is released! We could technically port every ROM here. The true potential will be unlocked! And battery life will improve because of profiles.. I guess I'll keep dreaming.

Well I unfortunately cannot enlighten you although I can say that month estimate would be for the international (Tegra). One X and for what I know it might be Christmas before AT&T or some other carrier releases jelly bean for the HTC One XL

You're free to switch to a different OEM, no one is stopping you... For the rest of us, we're more than happy to use custom ROMs, they're usually much better than any OEM's updates anyways.

Not quite true, for some devices the lack of update promotes devs to produce some great unique roms. Port updated versions of android to a device that would otherwise never receive it

They can use the official updates as a base and then make their ROM from there. The official updates contain all the drivers and features and its easy to build up. Making ROMs from scratch is difficult to say the least.

Not quite... Having the OEM's official update makes creating custom ROMs MUCH easier, sure. But being easier doesn't make them better, in fact, its quite the opposite... The better custom ROMs come from being built off of the AOSP source, not from the OEM's source. ROMs built from the OEM's source will still have many of the official ROM's inherent flaws, which kinda defeats the purpose of custom ROMs to begin with (and the main reason why I haven't flashed anything onto my One X yet)... Then we have porting ROMs from other devices which is one of the main reasons why you see ROMs with missing features such as cameras, WiFi and so on, along with other bloat and garbage files/drivers that aren't needed for the device it's being ported onto, but may cause issues if removed completely whether its used or not.
The problem devs are facing now is that they're spread too thin throughout hundreds of devices, back in the HTC Dream/Tmobile G1 days, building ROMs from the AOSP source wasn't a problem because they were all working on the same device, and could pool their resources to turn out MUCH better, faster and stable ROMs at a MUCH faster pace... Today, that's seemingly impossible since there are so many great devices out there (and more being released every few months), not to mention the competition between devs for recognition and donations, which isn't good for the community as a whole... Devs simply cannot keep up, so instead of building off of AOSP (which takes longer), most of them build off of the official updated ROMs or ROMs ported from other devices to make things easier and have a faster turn around time. Not to mention there are many "devs" (and I use this term lightly) out there who simply copy and paste code around, add a few things here and there, add a launcher and theme, slap their name on it, call it a finished ROM and then ask for donations for all their "hard work" (again, using this term lightly), when in fact, all the hard work was already done by other devs... Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work devs do for basically nothing in return, and have donated to many who deserved it, without them, we'd be at the mercy of OEMs, which is never a good thing (see iOS), but there's only so much they can do on their own, and with so many handsets on the market, it's very difficult to stay focused on a single handset for more than 6-8 months...

After three HTC phones and seeing this same pattern, I will not be buying another HTC phone. I know AT&T is to blame too, but HTC was committed to build quality and dedication to less devices and more support. I haven't seen it to my level of satisfaction. Maybe I'm on the wrong carrier, I don't know...

We are in a forum about rooting and flashing custom ROMs, not about whining when will a release for new software come out forum.
So I suggest to start flashing custom ROMs and stop talking about this.
It will get released when it gets released, and no amount of anyone bashing carriers or whining will make it come sooner.

Exactly this. I came from the HTC Aria, who's last official update was 2.2. Currently, there are community built ICS and JB builds that are ~99% complete in terms of functionality.
I upgraded yesterday to the HTC OneX+ and it has the updated software that OneX will probably get soon and if I knew how to root this sucker and pull the RUU off I would be more than happy to oblige. Anyone familiar with this process can chime in and help pull it from my phone because it really is nice especially the custom options in stock.

It would be useless for you to do so, it has a completely different processor. And since we are due for an update soon our devs are just going to wait until its released to make a custom rom

Maybe I'm alone in this but it seems like this phone is a dead end now up to this point. We still have absolutely no word from AT&T or HTC about an update to Jelly Bean.....Well mostly AT&T because HTC has released a JB update to international ONE X.
The CM10 isn't stable enough to be a daily driver due to lack of sources.
It sucks we have great developers trying to give us something big from something small.
Now that the new ONE X is out on AT&T, I doubt they give a rats ass about the Previous version, we may well NEVER get Jelly Bean.
I've been using CM10 since I rooted. I have very few issues with it.

A dead end? We've got some pretty good roms and kernels here, and active development. Maybe not as much as other forums, or as much as some would like, but plenty of people are happy about it.
JB is coming. The One XL has always lagged a couple of months behind the One X in releases, and that's continuing. But it will be out. And, who cares about AT&T? All we need is one carrier pushing it out and the devs can work from there.

It's been good when I was using it. But losing cellular reception constantly while using GPS was the tipping point for me to go back to a Sense ROM. Plenty of people had/have this issue and I don't see in changelogs that it's been resolved.
If it helps the Htc One XL has come to the UK with 32gb of storage, Maybe this will kickstart some more development...

CM10 is far from bad. Now something you wouldn't have liked was CM7 on my old GS2. No matter what I did with it, it never worked right. Only problem I have had with any of the AOSP is the music playing. Stuff that is far from a big deal..
Also, who cares about when AT&T is going to release an update. Have you taken a look at the dev sections lately? There is only 1 active rom that is based on AT&T released software(not knocking the rom itself in anyway, it was pretty good). Once one of the international variants get theirs, we'll have it.

Yeah we just got a port(bootable albeit not entirely working) of a JB sense rom. From the DNA no less!

Cm10 11/30 is a pretty good build
I feel like this is just complaining and pointless. But the same thing happened to the desire HD forum... Until! A dev turned everything around. Stop being impatient and wait.

I put cm10 stable release and gave it to my wife. No complaints so far. I'm using a nexus 4 and this bad boy is no slouch compared to the nexus.
The development was slow at some point when the 2.20 did not have root, not anymore.
The CM stable release is as stable as it gets. Battery is killer with default kernel.

No. Just no. I use CM10 everyday.
I'm not new to modding and current run Cleanrom 5.1 with BeastMod kernel.
On CM10, I constantly lost service when using GPS. This is a well known issue that people were having (I was on the "stable" version).
I like the phone and It's actually doing well on the CleanRom............ The point of this thread was the lack of AT&T getting an update to this device.....and now that they released a new one, I'm pretty sure this one is forgotten.
I think if you're subsidizing phones and putting people in 2 year contracts, you should be obligated to provide updates for at least those two years, just my 2 cents.... but greedy carriers will be greedy carriers.
