Fighting ATT Data Throttle, an alternative venue - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

How about contacting the CEO directly and advising him that screwing the people that made ATT rich is biting the hand that fed him and provided him with his $5 million mansion and therefore is not a good business practice in the long run.

These threads are some of the funniest on all of XDA.. There is nothing and no one who you can talk to or complain to or try to sue that gives a damn.. and I'm not being rude but realistic. T - MOBILE has been throttling people for a few years now and in the beginning people tried to fight it, but guess what.. its still happening. Its in your contract that they can and will do what they want. Accept that and move on.

Taking it up you know what and just doing nothing is the wrong attitude. Whatever makes their lives and work a little bit harder is a good business practice on the part of consumers.
They need to know that this BS will not fly. Maybe T-mobile customers are pacifists, not us.

Who thinks xda should join the blackout?

many popular Web sites across the net are shutting down for 1 day on January 18th in protest of the 2 bills the united states government is trying to force through Congress. These bills would give the united states government the power to shut down entire Web sites, much like China does. This could even affect xda. Think of the government shutting xda down because some newb posts a file he shouldnt, or because a leak for a device specific os post is seen as infringement.

All seriousness tho... This is an informative link to some folks involved in the anti-sopa movement.
At least in America I think we've become way too complacent. It's frightening what they could do with the bill that passed, but got floored, if just *one* man changed his mind.
Not long until it hits England I reckon. Can't believe we are extraditing a 23 year old to America over piracy... sad times.
Waste of time imho. People who are against SOPA should be out there educating people. The more people understand the more influence we have. If there is a blackout for a day a lot of people will overlook it.

the idea is pretty scary...it's especially disappointing seeing as we're talking about the US in this case censoring the web, while they criticise China for doing exactly that. So much for "freedom of speech"...

Are you OK with the new interface, which can be very iOS-like (i.e., grids of app icons, Home button, folder, basic notifications, wallpaper), but also allows for different sized widgets anywhere they fit, theming as a standard capability (as is live wallpaper), notifications stay resident until you clear them and can be detailed, quick phone settings are available in the pulldown, and . . . well, here's an overview.
You can place your phone into MTP mode when connected to a computer and use programs such as Media Monkey to synch content much like iTunes, though Samsung has tried to make it easy in their own way to move from iTunes.
The ecosystem is not so tight with Android - you have lots of options for most things and much capability is built in without requiring the need for rooting and unlocking, I feel. Still, we're in the early days of unlocking, so back up your IMEI if you go that route since there is still a problem with phones being sent back to roaming through apparent loss of that value after applying a new ROM. I am not going past rooting (which allows for deeper backups and easy tethering, among other things) until that issue is resolved.
Have fun!

It's looking like a rain event at best. But damn it, I haven't cut the grass for almost 2 weeks from all the raining so I'm not to keen on more rain and longer grass.
It kind of reminds me of Charley's track and strength though and that's not good as Charley blew up and turned inland tearing up the state just south of me along with my parents house.
So I'm off to buy flashlights. I still have the plywood from 2005 (we had like 8 storms that year) LOL Probably all dry rotted by now though.

I can tell you from experience, they won't waive it (easily) either. I pretended I was going to buy the phone as an upgrade, acted surprised by the $30 fee, and then refused to buy it if they wouldn't waive it twice before just buying it on the third try. Maybe someone else could be a bigger shiester, but I got met with poker faces. They must have had a team meeting or something.

Love this quote from VZW's CFO

"Shammo said Verizon was surprised to see such a large number of subscribers with unlimited data plans have actually switched to the company’s shared offerings. “Unlimited is just a word,” he said. “It doesn’t really mean anything. … The whole unlimited thing is going by the wayside.”
So I guess that means that if I wasn't grandfathered and "shared everything", my bill for data over 10GB would be "just a number" and I could "pay anything" I wanted???
LMAO
Shammo says stupid **** like this all the time. This will probably be my last vzw phone because I don't like giving money to people that blatantly say they are trying to milk their customers and give them nothing in return after getting ****ed.
Some wealthy corporate executives can't imagine people complaining about paying more money for what they desire to charge . . . because it eventually trickles into their annual bonus pay and that's their number one focus.

Dead on, for me. I liked the concept of unlimited. Maybe even more, I liked the relative stability of monthly bills. I don't use much mobile data (about 2 gigs/mo.), so switching to the new plan saved me a few bucks. Still... I don't like it.
But, on the point of the thread, the comment should be embarrassing for the company and the board. The CFO, of all people, saying that the word "unlimited" is imprecise.
I'm fed up with Verizon for other reasons. How's Sprint's or T-Mobile's value?
I have 5 phones on a business account, 2 with unlimited data, 2 with 2gb a month and a feature phone. Every month when i go in to pay my bill they tell me about their new share everything plans that may be able to save me money. I just laugh, tell him I'm good and walk away.

Same here 2 gigs just isnt enough for anything other than the basics, if you wanted to stream a movie or netflex or football you're going to go over that limit in a heart beat.
Ive noticed the carriers starting to advertise unlimited so if enough leave maybe vzw will reconsider. maybe
And btw mr big shot shammo we didn't change because we liked your new plans we were forced to.

Same here, i didn't use much data but if i decided to stream something at least I didn't have to worry about overages.
Well seeing as how i still have unlimited data I think its my duty to stream netflix all night long on 4g while I sleep, just to hurt his bottom line a little.

No, its a line they always pitch you in store when they try to put you at ease about paying more for less. It is true though, the vast majority doesn't exceed their 2gb allowance therefore "unlimited" is typically just a number
If people dont use that much data theb why did they take away unlimited? Yeah, they are greedy. The old cell days were cool with all the innovation and unlimited data. Not anymore.

Does owner of Titanium Backup drive a Lamborghini?

I'll take a stab at this ... lets assume that he gets 100% of the proceeds from sales (based on your maths above).
Now, lets take taxes into consideration. But, before we do that we have to know over what time frame these sales occurred. Tax brackets are based on your annual income, so this is important. The best I can determine is that the first release was sometime in 2010. So lets assume it's three years old.
Lets also assume they consistently sell the same amount of licenses per year at the same price for simplicity's sake.
3,290,000 / 3 = $1,096,666 per year.
That puts them smack into the highest tax bracket of 39.6% per year. So ...
$1,096,666 * .396 = $434,248 paid in taxes. Also, assuming they keep good books and aren't too clever with their taxes, investments, write off's ect. Too many variables to consider here.
So, that means, that before paying staff, paying overhead (again which deals with complexity of write-offs, deductions, etc so we'll skip that) they pulled in:
$1,096,666 - $434,248 = $663,386
Now you have to factor in misc living expenses such as mortgage, utilities, beer, etc ...
IIMHO ..... No, they do not drive exotic sports cars. But they could very well be living comfortably when you consider the median US household income is only $50,233.00.

Some can focus on more than a singular task. I know that sounds tricky to you but for others its necessary to make things happen.

I think I read once that although people think they can multitask, the human brain isn't capable if doing it. And one or both tasks will suffer as a result. Just my 2 pennies.
Computers also can't do it, and the tasks suffer. It's called "context switch overhead". However, if the processors are fast enough - you can lose the overhead and still be capable of doing whatever phones are doing these days.
Doesn't matter, question answered.

Tax brackets are based on your annual income, so this is important. The best I can determine is that the first release was sometime in 2010. So lets assume it's three years old.

Well... if it matters, in September of 2010, he was still selling licenses outside of the Play store (you had to pay via his site and wait on an registration file)...
Doesn't the math depend on what play considers a download? Are multiple downloads by the same account treated as one?

I had this exact thought. A lot of people download TB whenever they clean flash a new Rom. If each of these counts toward a unique download, I've contributed at least 30 to that count.
And what about updates? Do those count individually too?

The government sucks. Did y'all know the reason why walkie talkies are no more, is because they CANT trace those calls. I used to work at boost, all the drug dealers (not the normal street guy, but the guy from a mexican cartel) would buy cheap throw away phone since they killed walkie talkie. every week i would sell these guys a good 20 phones. Was mainly blackberries. I wonder why.

you should assume that any electronic communications that you do, is not private.
Has anyone actually looked at their tos (terms of service) to see if this IS legitmately a breach of contract? I'm not surprised nor do I ultimately care that I'm being recorded...I figured as much but I have nothing to hide either. What DOES upset me is that we were not notified of such....Most states require that we must let the other party know if we are recording them...but then the government totally blows that off and just does it without our knowledge (even if we pretty much assumed they did)....and the whole lets sacrifice our privacy in order to offer better security for our country...uh no...I don't trust anyone but myself, wife and daughter for my security heh. Again....just curious as to if anyone has checked or knows of the actual legalities of this and if it IS indeed a breach of contract.

Old news boys, take a look here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECHELON
Ho hummm...... the NSA has been intercepting all our calls and processing the voice and data for many years now, so Verizon forking over a few bills and records doesn't mean a lot .
Its all covered by the Intelligence Oversight Act which says that congress has oversight and must be informed , so they are all complicit in this violation of our constitutional rights, so who you gonna call, the UN?
They'll certainly be bored with my records. I haven't used 50 minutes in two years. Data, on the other hand, is a different story

What am I reading? I can walk into any Radio Shack and buy a walkie talkie. I can also buy a HAM and many other two way radios.

Do you think people can get out of contract without have to pay early term fee because of this?

Does seem to be a "materially adverse change" or at the very least, adverse.
The average person will forget about it anyway.
