"Shammo said Verizon was surprised to see such a large number of subscribers with unlimited data plans have actually switched to the company’s shared offerings. “Unlimited is just a word,” he said. “It doesn’t really mean anything. … The whole unlimited thing is going by the wayside.”
So I guess that means that if I wasn't grandfathered and "shared everything", my bill for data over 10GB would be "just a number" and I could "pay anything" I wanted???
LMAO
Shammo says stupid **** like this all the time. This will probably be my last vzw phone because I don't like giving money to people that blatantly say they are trying to milk their customers and give them nothing in return after getting ****ed.
Some wealthy corporate executives can't imagine people complaining about paying more money for what they desire to charge . . . because it eventually trickles into their annual bonus pay and that's their number one focus.

Big company man mentality. Could care less about the customer or employees. When they need a raise they just lay off a few thousand and take their money.

I think he's right to a certain extent, everybody wants "unlimited" but 90% of people don't use over 2 or 3gbs, they just don't like having their unlimited taken away
I don't think consumers like paying more for less unlimited for 30 is a nice deal

Dead on, for me. I liked the concept of unlimited. Maybe even more, I liked the relative stability of monthly bills. I don't use much mobile data (about 2 gigs/mo.), so switching to the new plan saved me a few bucks. Still... I don't like it.
But, on the point of the thread, the comment should be embarrassing for the company and the board. The CFO, of all people, saying that the word "unlimited" is imprecise.
I'm fed up with Verizon for other reasons. How's Sprint's or T-Mobile's value?
I have 5 phones on a business account, 2 with unlimited data, 2 with 2gb a month and a feature phone. Every month when i go in to pay my bill they tell me about their new share everything plans that may be able to save me money. I just laugh, tell him I'm good and walk away.

Same here 2 gigs just isnt enough for anything other than the basics, if you wanted to stream a movie or netflex or football you're going to go over that limit in a heart beat.
Ive noticed the carriers starting to advertise unlimited so if enough leave maybe vzw will reconsider. maybe
And btw mr big shot shammo we didn't change because we liked your new plans we were forced to.

Same here, i didn't use much data but if i decided to stream something at least I didn't have to worry about overages.
Well seeing as how i still have unlimited data I think its my duty to stream netflix all night long on 4g while I sleep, just to hurt his bottom line a little.

No, its a line they always pitch you in store when they try to put you at ease about paying more for less. It is true though, the vast majority doesn't exceed their 2gb allowance therefore "unlimited" is typically just a number
If people dont use that much data theb why did they take away unlimited? Yeah, they are greedy. The old cell days were cool with all the innovation and unlimited data. Not anymore.

Not so much CANCELLED as the deal has been placed on Hospice Care... ie, AT&T is putting the loss of the breakup fees on their books NOW as if the deal was dead, and withdrawing the current FCC application... However it looks like they plan to reapply with a different deal.
The longer they drag this out, the longer T-Mo execs (and employees) can play the "let it rot on the vine" game, until it's an asset not worth having. Which is what AT&T wants anyway.
I actually kinda wanted this now. T-Mobile is dead on it's own. Has no plans whatsoever for LTE and DT pretty much gave up on them. So in the end I was kinda hoping for this to go through.

Hi all i'm glad At&t is not merging with T-mobileand the hell with there bandwidth cap that spread like a virus to every isps provider. Feels like our technology went back 20 years, I might as well move back to Yemen and get a pager.
A lot of what I was reading, AT&T pulled out temporarily to stop the FCC from releasing the documents on why it feels this deal would not be good for the US consumers and thus preventing the judge that was to hear the case from seeing this, allowing them a last ditch effort to apply later with a different approach. basically they knew if the relevant information was released, they would be denied, so they stopped that to come up with different approach that may have a slightly better chance of passing, somewhat like pulling together for a Hail Mary.
Att= poor service, poor customer care.
Tmo= decent service, excellent customer care.

The sad, unfortunate part of this whole affair is that whether the deal falls through or not, DT is adamant about wanting to get out of the US market. They don't want to continue funding their venture into this country. Even though they are making a profit here, for some reason they just simply want out.
They will sell, to AT&T or whomever the government allows them to. Although I would vastly prefer just about anyone to AT&T.
Att can go to .....well you know.

I'm actually fine with the fact that TMO has no plans for LTE. HSPA+ is fast enough on the mobile phone, and it doesn't come with the penalty of the huge battery drain from LTE. I'd rather have a slightly slower internet speed than a dead phone by 10AM.
Well Simple Mobile uses Tmobiles network as well as a few others.
Maybe Verizon will pick it up and start using all the bands.
Or why don't they could auction it
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
Saw this, was definitely interesting. Personally, I didn't really care what happened. Thinking about it, I am actually pretty happy that it didn't go through. I have loved using T-Mobile from the start, far superior than any other choice at the moment here.
AT&T and T-Mobile only withdrew the application in order to prevent the FCC from slapping a big fat DENIED stamp on the acuisition prior to the DOJ hearing to judge whether or not the acquisition would create a merger. If the FCC had denied AT&T and T-Mobile's application the DOJ would almost certainly have won the case against the acquisition. Now, however, the plan for AT&T and T-Mobile is to go to the DOJ hearing and get cleared of anti-competitive and monopoly checks and then take their case back to the FCC with the DOJ behind them.
Hopefully some politicians will strike up against the acquisition due to this shady tactic of dodging around the FCC's disapproval, but with the current political climate and the DOJ's history with mergers and acquisitions over the past couple of years I have little hope that the customer's interests will be served and AT&T and DT will likely get their way.
I think my girlfriend put it the best way today: AT&T was afraid mommy FCC would say no to AT&T eating up T-Mobile so AT&T decided to run away from mommy and ask daddy instead. It's the old trick one parent into saying yes trick.

Seems legit, Some say they terminate service if you go over said 2 gigs a month or 100mbs a day. But I say, hey. Better than getting 0gigs a month, and 0mbs a day. But here I cometh to the almighty XDA Forums, where I found home, and ask the almighty question, Should I, or Shall I not? I need some opinions people! Throw some facts at me! Anywho.... +1 That's what I was thinking. Idk too much about paying the phone bill, but if you are interested in unlimited data, you can still get it easy enough from ATT. Then you will have three gigs of unthrottled data, for $30 a month. Just me talking. But definitely check out that link. And everyone knows that Ctrl+R is for the win..

This is kinda related to a GS3 because I have that on my plan, anyway, if I have 2 unlimited data plans still on contract, can Verizon do anything, or will they, if I forgot to pay my bill by the due date and it was paid one day late? It was never disconnected or anything, but just wanted to see if a similar thing happened to anyone else and if they know what Verizon does? I'm just mainly referring to whether they can cancel your unlimited data if you paid a day late, or if it's ok since it wasn't very long after te due date.
Thanks

But it wasn't even 24 hrs past the initial due date, like it was due on the 1st day and I paid right after noon on the 2nd day. There was no sign of any automated system taking a hold of my account, not tha I know the sign of that, and I already paid it. Do I still need to call them to let them know? What do I need to let them know if it's already paid? And if it's already paid, does their automated system still react to it because it was a few hours late?
For those who say they don't pay until they get the email saying they will be disconnected, how long after the due date of your bill do you get that email?
Thanks

lol I cant believe there is a thread on this topic...i guess i should create a guide "how to not pay your bill and keep service on 4.1.2" .
Having worked for Big Red for a couple of years as a CSR/Tech Support (not currently), yes you can go through the automated system and let them know a payment has been "sent" even tho you may not have actually sent one. This is stop them from bothering you for a while. Unless you are extremely delinquent (Past 2+ months), they won't turn your phone off. There's usually a 25-35 re-activation fee per line but you keep your same plan.
I pay late myself just because it works better for my financial situation and changing bill cycle/due date is such a PITA. I highly recommend against it because 99% CS rep don't know how to calculate your pro-rations and end up effing it up, costing you both time and money.

Like I said in another thread. The S3 General forum is turning into an OT-like forum. I don't know if it's age differences (I'm 34) but it seems to me that a lot of people need their hand held for a lot of frivolous things nowadays. This really is a USA thread only but all can get involved. Recently our government has ruled that unlocking phones without carrier permission is now illegal. Please sign this petition to change such law so that we can own the technology we buy!!!
http://wh.gov/yA9n
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I don't see what's so unfair about this.
This impacts people who are buying carrier-subsidized devices. This is a practice that has always benefited the carrier much more than the consumer.
This ruling shouldn't be something to get mad about directly - people should be mad about how badly they're being screwed over by subsidies in general. I think it's fair enough that if you sign up to be screwed, you get your full screwing.
Also, if you actually read the thing, it doesn't apply to used devices. This only applies to new phones bought under contract wherein you had full disclosure about the phone's state and the carrier's policy - no one should hedge their bets on being able to circumvent the terms they agreed to.
Even if you buy a phone at full price from a carrier it is still illegal to unlock it without the carriers approval. Thats my issue.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
See the problem is that they claim they are losing money on people unlocking their phones then going to another carrier. The flaw here is that they aren't losing anything, if someone cancels the contract they pay the etf, and if they don't they are still paying monthly because of the contract. Its just another scheme to hurt our money. Carriers can get in on the cell phone unlocking business and charge money to unlock their own cellphones, and there won't be anyone to compete

If I paid full price for my phone, I should be able to do whatever I like to it.
But the real impact is: this law kills the spirit of technology innovation.
I see this as an issue between the consumer and carrier. Stop buying phones that don't come unlocked - demand that carriers make it an option or buy used / phones sold as unlocked only.
Carriers are slowly realising that they're losing business if they don't give people the options they want - see Sprint rolling out a pre-paid service (not just the other brands they own).
If a business is screwing you, take your business to one whose terms you like. It's like pay-day loans - terrible for you, but it's your choice to do something terrible for yourself.

If you buy your phone on contract, the cost of phone is almost always subsidized and you're playing by their rules. You're essentially leasing the device.
If you buy your phone at full mrsp price, then yes, you should be free to do whatever.
I dont see how this stifles tech advancements at all; I just see the creation of more underground and gray markets for unlocking services. All the bodega cellphone stores will still unlock phones for 30 bucks; they may just advertise less. Hell, they probably wont change that. Do you think cops will even care? Not where I live.
And unlocking tools/codes/apps will still be all over the internet. They may not be on the US Google Play Store anymore. Big deal.

Doesn't matter if you don't think it will be enforced or not, you shouldn't have to worry about being prosecuted just because you want to experiment with your own phone.
We need to reject laws like these that are hostile to the consumer and show greedy corporations and politicians that we are paying attention and won't stand for this crap.

Too little too late?
There was a thread for this, your probably not seeing it bc no one has posted on it in 4 or 5 days. Its really sad too especially considering that this is probably the first in a line of laws to be unfairly passed that screw the consumer. To everyone overseas: not everyone wants to do something they know is technically illegal, enforced or not. The options for unlocked phones get pretty narrow if you like a certain kind of phone, and even narrower if you are tied to a particular service that has better reception in your area like say verizon like with me. I live in the middle of nowhere...lol but that's a different subject. The point is this sucks bc it takes away our options as consumers. We shouldn't have to not buy locked phones until all the carriers get the hint and safe to say that would take time. Obviously they see the wisdom in this move for them or they would not have done it. I was like the 14,000th signature on this petition and have been watching and promoting it everywhere, and sadly it looks like we have lost the needed speed to finish with 100k sigs. At this rate we will finish with about 80k give or take i figure. Not saying give up bc i wont, but everyone that is in the u.s. and understands whats involved needs to pick it up big time as this gets less media coverage. Spread the word!
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/make-unlocking-cell-phones-legal/1g9KhZG7
This big brother administration keeps ramming through laws that hurt the consumer!
If we purchase a non subsidized phone at full retail do they lower our monthly bill? Can we carrier unlock?
The answer to both is no. Funny how they get it all and we get nothing in return. Enough is enough already.
I will gladly pay full retail if I "own" my phone, no carrier lock and unlocked/s-off, and they reduce my bill accordingly.
Just remember, they use OUR airwaves, and now are abusing the legal system to hold us hostage so they can profit. Pretty sure this is not legal.

The government sucks. Did y'all know the reason why walkie talkies are no more, is because they CANT trace those calls. I used to work at boost, all the drug dealers (not the normal street guy, but the guy from a mexican cartel) would buy cheap throw away phone since they killed walkie talkie. every week i would sell these guys a good 20 phones. Was mainly blackberries. I wonder why.

you should assume that any electronic communications that you do, is not private.
Has anyone actually looked at their tos (terms of service) to see if this IS legitmately a breach of contract? I'm not surprised nor do I ultimately care that I'm being recorded...I figured as much but I have nothing to hide either. What DOES upset me is that we were not notified of such....Most states require that we must let the other party know if we are recording them...but then the government totally blows that off and just does it without our knowledge (even if we pretty much assumed they did)....and the whole lets sacrifice our privacy in order to offer better security for our country...uh no...I don't trust anyone but myself, wife and daughter for my security heh. Again....just curious as to if anyone has checked or knows of the actual legalities of this and if it IS indeed a breach of contract.

Old news boys, take a look here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECHELON
Ho hummm...... the NSA has been intercepting all our calls and processing the voice and data for many years now, so Verizon forking over a few bills and records doesn't mean a lot .
Its all covered by the Intelligence Oversight Act which says that congress has oversight and must be informed , so they are all complicit in this violation of our constitutional rights, so who you gonna call, the UN?
They'll certainly be bored with my records. I haven't used 50 minutes in two years. Data, on the other hand, is a different story

Do you think people can get out of contract without have to pay early term fee because of this?

Does seem to be a "materially adverse change" or at the very least, adverse.
The average person will forget about it anyway.
