Anyone else having a problem with the NxS jumping between 2G/3G network all the time?
I tried 2G-only and it seems the it does interrupt connection less often, but it still does. I'll exchange the sim card tomorrow to rule out the last option (I can think of) I got before returning the NxS and asking for a replacement.
(i9023, stock rom/kernel/radio, tried 3 stock roms with diff radios (KA3, KB3, KD1))
Maybe anyone got an idea or a hint.
Sounds like ur in a weak 3g area so it keeps goin back to 2g

Granted I'm not in the best 3G area, but I usually get 3 (of 5) bars in 3G and then it just pops back to 2G.
Might be network pumping (or w/e it's exactly called), gonna exchange the sim anyway to track down the problem further.
Are u on orange in the uk

I have this problem aswell. Thing is 2 3g bars are way faster than 4 g bars. I cant change it to use only cdma in the service menu. Anyone know why.

So does change of simcard help?
I got it fixed for me. I tried n3 and n5 sim cards, no changes. Problems were caused by faulty antennas, after being fixed by the carrier problem was reduced to a minimum. Now to get rid of the so called network breathing, which is a problem of the used communication method itself aka can't be fixed. University ftl!! Simply too many smartphones

I have been reduced to using an Airvana in order to utilize my Sprint service. We have issues in my area and without it I have no signal at my house.
When the Airvana is in use it boosts the signal very well and the phone works great.
However, after a few hours the Airvana will begin blocking ALL my incoming and outgoing. I have had it actually appear to kill the radio ( I will have the bars and a little x, showing there is no network. I have also been forced to roam on Verizon.
This only happens on my Nexus and not on my wife's Epic. My Nexus has been swapped out and so has the Airvana. Despite swapping both of these devices out I experience the same problem. As soon as I unplug the Airvana the Nexus immediately goes back to normal. Very strange.
It seems like a compatibility issue between the Nexus and the Airvana. Has anyone else experienced this problem. Sprint has tried everything to address the issues but nothing works. I hate the idea of leaving the Nexus but I can't seem to find a way to make this work.
My airvana is always on and I don't get that issue with my nexus that sucks bro

Rob had the same thing start happening today. So did plenty users on sprint forums i just went ahead and unhooked it but now my signal isn't nearly as bad so I'm not tripping. Resetting it did nothing and i can call out text and get text but incoming went to voicemail or a busy tone. Also my signal would
Flat out drop until a reboot.

I was going to ask in the other sections but i've seen that quite a few people here are on orange uk so thought i'd give it a shot here. Recently my signal has just been going on and off. Some places, the phone just refuses to receive any signal even though i know i get signal in this area. I was thinking about changing the radio but wanted to know if it was only me experiencing the problem. I upgraded to the latest radio long before i had this problem.
Have you set things up with orange so you can use the t mobile cell towers? Since they joined to become 'everything everywhere' or whatever it's called you can use both towers. give orange a call to set it up if it isn't already.
I didn't notice any difference changing radios with network signals.
Mines gone worse since then. Its always connected to orange T-Mobile
I know there's no T-Mobile signal in my house and if I'm on orange (no T-Mobile) it seems to get full signal

I've had no end of signal problems since the merger with t mobile. 3g was a waste of time for most of last year. It did get better from about November though. Perhaps they are doing in your area what they were in mine?
I did also once have a Sim card failure which gave the symptoms you describe. Try giving them a ring and request a new one.

Thanks. Well right now I'm on reaper and it doesn't connect to orange t-mobile which is good. But if it does continue I guess I'll have to phone them
EDIT:Signal just dropped to zero even though I'm standing in the same place

Sounds like a borked sim. I only found out when i arranged for my phone to go back to HTC for repair, bought a cheap phone to keep me going, put the Sim in the phone......no signal.
Try another phone to confirm it.

Anyone using a nexus 5 on T-Mobile in the NY city area getting very bad reception I'm not sure if there's an issue with the device or tmobiles service coming from an HTC one that had excellent reception I think there might be something wrong with my device

Are you getting excellent HSPA+ reception, but the phone isn't switching to LTE or connects to LTE, but jumps back to HSPA+?
Go to a T-Mobile store and tell them about your situation (don't chat with them online because that did not fix my situation). The rep that I spoke with called tech support and they did some sort of reset on my account. I also asked for a new SIM and was given that new ISIS SIM. As soon as my phone booted, it was on LTE and stayed on LTE. I was like you, thinking that my device was messed up, but T-Mobile fixed it.
No if you check the discharge chart I posted the phone is just completely loosing service but I haven't tried getting a new Sim yet I'll try that and see if it helps

I'm having connectivity problems as well in Dallas. Very spotty connection, especially inside buildings.

I'm in NYC (East Village area) - I'm generally on LTE but it does switch to H from time to time. How can I check connection on my phone like you have in your screenshots?

If every other phone you had before this one had much better service I would suggest getting it replaced with mine if I walked inside just about any building even single story stores and homes it would loose signal

The problems you describe were while using T-Mobile on a Nexus 5? I've only had T-Mobile service about a week now, before that I always used AT&T on samsung android phones (S4, Note II, etc). And service was always very strong on AT&T.

Anecdotally, I'm having terrible reception in NYC as well. At home and in the office, barely one bar, frequently none.
Over the past 2 years on an HTC Sensation 4G, have typically had no reception problems in these same areas - 2-3 bars at all times.

I've had T-Mobile for years and never had connection issues as bad as this so im hoping it was just a faulty device and not the device in general just getting poor reception

sounds like the same issue im having ill update when ever i get my replacement to see if anythings changed
We have the same issue with Nexus 5 with Tmobile in greater NYC metro area. When i tried with my old Samsung mobile there is no issue and it works fine. The problem, I can't make and receive any calls. Most of the callers told me, it goes to voice message after couple of rings. I didn't get even single ring and voice mail message. Frustrating Nexus 5.
My friend and I have the same problem too.
Both 16gb White
What colour of nexus 5 you guys have?
I see some have white, maybe white causes this issue??
Having the same issue as well. I have a 32gb white model and I randomly lose all bars when my friend calls me. It is very random and only happens a few times. Going to go and switch out the SIM from T-Mobile and have them reset my line and see if that fixes the problem.

32GB black with miserable cell reception here, so not a color issue.
Maybe an LTE issue? Might explain why our old devices got better reception, if they were using older gen signals/antennas? Not that we'd want to in the long term, can we disable the LTE services and live off the previous gen, at least to test?

I get lots of complete dead drop outs too, even on Wifi. One moment cruising along, the next I'm disconnected, the next I'm back on. Something is not right with this device.
Hmm I need to also find some time to visit a t-mobile store and check out why my reception just drops and gets spotty all of the sudden sometimes.
I have the 32gb white model. I never get LTE while two of my friends with Nexus 5 that were next to me both got LTE.
I also had my signal drop to 0 in a starbucks before, and I never had that happen with my previous Nexus 4, was frustrating since I couldn't get the promo code for my starbucks reward drink x.x
Ok guys Google is definitely on its game with replacing your your nexus 5 placed my RMA Sunday night got it today and I can report my new phone is working as it should I wouldn't say it gets as good a signal as my one did but a minimal difference that you would expect between two different devices so if your having an issue call up Google tell them you already spoke to T-Mobile about your service issues and they couldn't help you and that your certain its a device issue as a side note their RMA process has you basically buy a new device and send them the old one
Also I had a black 32gb so I don't think the color matters

After my research, When we switch back to 2G (GSM Only) option there is no issue with voice calls but the data speed is very slow as expected. It seems that there is an issue with T-mobile towers LTE/3G/4G for voice calls. Below is the problem with Sprint network, looks like same thing happening for Tmobile.
s4grudotcom - sprint lte connectivity issues due to circuit switched fallback technology.
If you need voice calls high priority like me, give a try to switch GSM only.it shows E network on signal bar.
I recently upgraded into the note edge and I'm experiencing consistent service loss. Seems like anytime I use anything network related ( cell network ) after a very short period of time it drops signal and take 5 mins or so to reconnect.
It's running 4.4 android and there are no official updates available to me
I'm on the sasktel network. This is very frustrating as I really do love the device.
I don't believe it's a hardware issue I strongly believe it's software related.
I've googled and have found that the Sprint Edge was giving some people grief but I have seen few to no solutions (and the ones I've tried have done me no good)
Please help!
Ive got the sprint 915p and mine does the same thing. Very annoying. Inly way to stay connected 100% of the time is to stay on 3g which sux. It is a known issue from what i have seen. Some phones are said to work themselves out of it. Inwiped my sim card points down with alcohol and forced my phone to reprovision and do a hands free activation. Seems to have actually helped some.

I also experienced the same thing and I thought I am the only one. Mine is a Bell Note Edge and using it under Telus network. Since acquiring this one 2 weeks ago, it has been a constant pain. There are times when my network signal would drop from 5 bars to no service and lasts for about 2-5mins for every 10-15mins of each hour. I had replaced my old sim card and purchased a new one a few days after getting the Note Edge. There are times that restarting the phone would fix the issue for about a few mins then it would go back to no signal. There are times when my LTE would just hang for a good minute or so. No problems with wifi connection and data up/down is consistent.
I also believe that this is software related. I had the somewhat of a similar experience with my LG G2 but this was in regards to the Wifi d/c issue. I had to wait 2 months for a dev to look into the issue and when he did, i flashed the modded kernel and wifi was better after that. I also contacted Samsung Mobile and the customer rep mentioned that they are not aware of any issue, which meant he didnt know jack at all. Hopefully somebody figures this out. I had to revert to my Note II as my daily driver.
Ya i wish there was someone out there that knew what exactly the problem was and could fix it. Its annoying when someone on here says its a known issue and clearly there are people having problems and complaining about it then the service representative says they dont know anything about a known issue.

I had the same problem with sprint. Went there and found out that I had a bad phone. They ordered a replacement and swapped it out. No issues after that.
Sent from my SM-N915P using XDA Premium HD app
Ya im gunna do the same thing its just a matter of having time. They want to look at your phone and "replicate the problem" before they replace it. I have already sat there for an hour to tell me about certain towers being down. I guess it was working ok for them when they looked at it. Its not all the time for me. Its that every once and a while when i got time to kill and i dont have wifi that it decides to act up that pisses me off
Sent from my SM-N915P using XDA Free mobile app
I get that too. There are days and hours where my phone cell network signal works flawlessly. There are days when I could barely get a signal.
Ya its random with me too. After wiping all the pads on the sim with alcohol and doing a hands free activation ot seems to be doing a lot better though
Sent from my SM-N915P using XDA Free mobile app
On sprint, since i updated to LP, this hasnt been nearly as much of a problem. .. 1 dropped call in a week, in a busy theme park, in a tunnel....
