Wonder if the g2x update may be getting delayed as well.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/06/10/did-lg-delay-gingerbread-on-the-scandinavian-optimus-2x/
Geez I hope this isn't the case! WTF LG?
I would not be surprised - given LG's decision to release it with froyo on it to begin with. If it is the fall - that is when 2.4 is supposed to come out. That one would be worth the wait - but that long of a delay for 2.3 is ridiculous. That would definitely establish that LG is NOT ready for prime-time in this market.
If 2.3 is delayed, it would be helpful if TMo would make that public. The dev's could then focus on their current ROM's and kernels and not hold up waiting for a phantom OTA to be released.
Might even see some more development of kernels for froyo if this is the case. I am currently back on froyo (and faux kernel) after trying versions of the leaked GB with and without kernels.
May have to give Nightly CM7 a try at some point. I was on RC's and Nightlies on my Mt4G before I made the switch.
G2X
I was told yesterday by T-Mobile tech support that the G2X has been pulled. They are going to replace mine with the HTC Sensation.

I actually heard from my nieghbor who is in upper mgmt at tmo, that tmo isn't going to release gingerbread and that next month they will announced the coming merger with at&t. He also said it will most likely mean the end of any contracts with tmo and every one will be forced to switch to a new contract with at&t. This is coming from upper management at tmo. He said this wont be made public or released to any media until it actually happens so people don't run to vrz or spent. Guessed he leaked it to me he don't know I'm on xda...

That's strange since it hasn't been apporved yet and T-Mobile is still coming out with devices.

WHAT!? well i'm fine with that as long as i have the option to say no to at&t without being penalized with cancellation fees. guess i should check out the Photon that just came out on sprint....
Like he said, it hasn't been approved. The FCC (FTC? I don't know) just sent out questionaires to the other carriers concerning the merger. So I call BS!
But I'll have to agree that this definately looks like the GB update won't happen "by summer". What a pitiful mess this phone is.
When I called yesterday,I was not told I could get anything but the G2 which I found astounding last years model???...."We don't have anything compatable" "What about the Sensation"? " That's our premier phone" "I thought the G2X was? "Well whatever is the newest is our premier phone""Well I want a Sensation""Can't have one"
It was later when I said I was willing to pay for the Sensation that it was offered to me with a updated contract at the"contract price"
So if they offer you a Sensation jump on it.

Not to freak anyone out but there's a "right to assignment" clause in your T-Mobile contract. In essence it gives them the right to assign your contract to any and all successors to T-Mobile. The only legal out you'd have is if AT&T changed the terms and conditions of your service. AT&T may choose not to enforce it, and make people stay against their will, but its certainly within their legal right.

if you believe that, i feel sorry for you.
The O2X doesn't run stock Android, so I can imagine an update taking longer for that phone.
i certainly don't but i'd like to pretend.... but i've arranged to get a sensation for free as an exchange. just waiting for the 15th for tmobile to send me mine.
Love these guys with there bogus claims.
Buddy, I was with Tmobile today in our store. The merger is not approved and is not expected to get a ruling for at least 3 more months min. Also it was clearly stated on the Tmobile press release and part of the merger details that ALL timobile contracts will be honored fully and NOT CHANGED for the duration of the Tmobile customers contract and can also be grandfathered and kept by the Tmo customer for as long as they are a customer. So if you have a Unlimited 59.oo plan per say with data at 30.00 You can keep it forever if you choose.
As for the G2x. It has not been deleted from Tmobile as after very slow opening sales. It is now there number 2 selling phone behind the current touch model. It is out of stock for now and will be replenished when it gets back. Stores and subcontract locations are still selling and getting stock.
I love 1 post wonders with bogus information.
I found these pics from E3. In one of the photos at the very bottom it looks like the G2x is indeed running Gingerbread. Take a look and see what you guys think:

I will be headed for Verizon as soon as the ATT merger goes through but right now there is no point since in my area T-Mobile has the fastest data speeds by a long shot and the cheapest pricing as I am on a loyalty plan. That said, it is hit or miss with T-Mobile but if I don't get my way with customer service, I just keep calling back. I mean, I really can't think of any other provider that would have gave me a free Sensation and let me keep my G2X while still remaining contract free. Can you?

You'd think that after two different manufacturers both produce craptastic phones for the same carrier then the blame should really be leaning towards T-Mobile's allowance of said phones into their line-up..?

@jrwingate6
The Vibrant gave me GPS issues constantly... I guess this was a bigger issue for me since I was travelling a lot at the time. The GPS issues were widespread and poorly handled by Samsung in my opinion, also didn't like how they dropped the Vibrant and replaced it with a clone with a FFC under the disguise of Galaxy S 4G.
The final straw was once I started to notice my notification bar clock burning into the screen (along with some of the constantly displayed icons). I bailed before the problems got worse and argued with T-Mo till they at least gave me a free upgrade.

I'll never say "I'll never buy from "X" place" again. You aren't going to make a liar out of me. Samsung botched the vibrant (and a few others) and I along with nearly everyone else is drooling over the gs2. With this many different devices with different hardware and software variants, some are bound to be lemons. What I'd really wish t-mobile(and other carriers) would do is offer to reset phone upgrades for people with specific devices that have well known and documented issues. My old vibrant, for instance... everytime I call to complain about the gps issue, EVERY csr tells me this is a known issue and sends me a replacement. I've swapped it out 6 times in 9 months and even asked for a different phone of equal value and been shot down, as recent as 2 weeks ago. I don't want a free phone, I just want to be able to spend ANOTHER $200 on a "high-end" phone that works.

I started this thread and never once did I say I wouldn't buy another LG. When the behold II debacle hit, I never said I wouldn't buy a Samsung. This thread was simply starting the obvious. LG is now screwing its customers over just like Samsung used to. But yea. I don't believe for one second half these people will never buy LG again because as soon as the Nexus 3 hits, there is going to be a mass exodus of LG users. You also see how far boycotting samsung got you. No where. They now make some of the best devices out and have no problem selling them.

Absolutely ****ing ridiculous. Hey T-Mobile, guess what logo I see when I look at the front of my phone? YOURS! Quit blaming what is essentially a contractor of yours and own up!
If I lived in an apartment with a busted furnace and complained to my landlord that it still hadn't been fixed after a week, would I accept a reply like "Well, the contractor I use sucks and can't get his act together, so be mad at him."? **** no! It's YOUR responsibility to get this **** fixed, Mr. Landlord/T-Mobile, I don't really care who you rely on to get it done.
My contract is with T-Mobile. Not LG. Get your act together T-Mobile.
Eh, I don't think TMobile is the right target here. Would you blame your local cable provider if your Television had an issue, even if they sold it to you?
No, you would expect their customer service to exchange it for you, whether for the same model or a completely different one, but you wouldn't blame them for the TV itself. This one is squarely on the shoulders of LG in my book.
yea, take your beef up with LG. Tmobile sells the phone but LG is the one who makes the software and responsible for the updated software. if anything, Tmobile is actively helping LG by testing the software and QCing it for their network.
nonetheless, i wish LG would just release its source for 2.3.x and then the devs here could finally make it work like it should

Yes, because they would be "managing" the relationship between the TV manufacturer and me. Obviously only LG can write the drivers, but it's T-Mobile's responsibility to lean on them, give them $, hire 3 dozen engineers, whatever the hell is necessary to get this done ASAP.
Better analogy: Sorry the TV we sold you broke, but the component contractor we use to provide the power supply (or voltage inverter or whatever) sucks, so go blame them.
Hahaha why would HTC have anything to do with the update to the G2X? Thats an absurd statement.

I think they're doing a fine job managing the relationship. I think you're over-estimating the amount of involvement that phone carriers have in the development process.
Why on earth would TMobile ever go through the steps you mentioned (give them money, hire engineers, etc.), when they have a much simpler solution: offering you an alternative phone. TMobile did not engineer the hardware and software behind the G2X, and shouldn't be expected to pick up the pieces. I'd say they are doing a great job handling the customer service side of this issue.
This isn't like buying a TV from Best Buy and then getting angry with Best Buy when the thing breaks. Best Buy doesn't put their names on the televisions and/or use them as flagship branding devices - T-Mobile did.
Your way off base blaming Tmobile here. How do you know there not leaning on LG to get a update out? It's not Tmobiles responsibility to hire engeneers for a device they didn't screw up in the first place. LG ****ed up so its LG's problem to fix it. Tmobile has already done there job by doing a soft pull of the device and offering alternative devices to those having problems.

Who sold me my phone? Tmo.
Who is my contract with? Tmo.
Who's logo is on the phone? Tmo (along with LG).
Who decided that the G2x was good enough in its present form to make their flagship phone? Tmo.
Tmo could have said "No, this phone is no where near ready for market, we'll pass for a few months". But they didn't.
Of course it's LG's fault the phone itself sucks; they make the thing. But it's Tmo's fault for offering it to me as a commercial product that was "ready" and being more than happy to take my money for a bunk product.

When Tmobile puts there name on a device, they expect the manufacturer to actually do its job by testing the phone. LG half assed it so its LG who needs to fix it. I can see it now if Tmobile decided to test all of its phones delaying the release by weeks or months. Then people like you would start complaining about the delayed releases.
Start writing emails to LG and tell them to assign more engeneers to the G2X GB update. Tmobile sure as Bell isn't going to waste money by hiring engeneers to fix every phone they put there name on. Tmobile is the provider of a cell service. Not the manufacturer of the devices it allows run on its network. Lastly, if you think for one second, Tmobile doesn't have a contract with these manufacturers that states they will fix what needs to be fixed then your not living on the same planet as I.

I'm happy to agree with that, but we both know that is smoke and mirrors. In the end, it is still up to LG to produce a quality device with quality software.
The only people that have a real gripe with TMobile (in my mind) are those that switched from another carrier specifically for the G2X, and we've already seen examples on this board of folks being allowed to break their TMobile contract because of this. Again, TMobile doing its job. I would be one of those people (switched specifically for the G2X), but I've got a problem-free phone. Everyone else was already under contract with TMobile, and will have the option of choosing another device to replace their G2X. Again, TMobile doing its job.
I would try to fault TMobile for not predicting these issues, but LG has produced some decent phones in the past, and the G2X still boasts the best hardware of any phone on the market right now (yes, better than the Sensation). This is not just a flavor of the month device.

Last I checked T-Mobile isn't offering any alternative devices. Also, you need to head to law school before making such blanket statements as to whether T-Mobile has done their job.
Yea I agree. If LG gave the update to Tmobile for testing, Tmobile would have the update.
When all is said and done T-Mobile and LG share liability here - T-Mobile, as the seller, marketer, and brand is going to have to make customers whole if there is not fix - it is then T-Mobile's job to go after LG for any sustained losses.

It's not confirmed but basically... it's looking like the merger is going to go through... they just jumped the gun, but for good reason the only real opposition they face is Sprint but one company probably won't be enough to mess up the merger, and it may not suck. If they want to keep customers, they have to maintain the quality that people are used to from both companies when they merge them. At first it's gonna be a mess but I think in the long run it's a good thing.

Also it's not about one company standing in the way. It's about the federal government, the FCC approving the deal. It's about everyday people playing their parts and writing to their congressman and to their senators as I have to tell them that we don't need or want this merger.

I say suck because I remember when I went through the Cingular to AT&T merger and I was treated like dirt. T-Mobile is one if the last companies I actually don't mind paying every month because of the stellar customer service they provide, and the amazing plan I have. That super limited data plan new iPhone customers get with AT&T is a joke. I am praying for the best, but expecting the worse. Strap in, here we go folks!!

I have been a t-mo customer and I love the service. When this happens it's going to HUGE change for the current t-mo customers. We as current t-mo customers are not going to be happy.
You have to realize, AT&T didn't force T-Mobile in to this deal. Deutsche Telekom sold T-Mobile U.S. because they didn't have the cash to make it competitive and it was under performing financially. And the deal is officially done. It can become undone if it doesn't get U.S. approval but until and unless that happens both companies are preceding toward closing the deal. I'll bet you too that when T-Mobile discloses their Q2 numbers they're going to be bloody. Q1 was awful and that was with no impact from the merger announcement. Q2's results will help justify the need for the merger and most likely accelerate its approval.
http://www.slashgear.com/t-mobile-u...-as-nearly-1m-subscribers-jump-ship-06150649/
SIGH. I'm contract FREE with tmobile right now. Now undecided whether to run in and get a contract, so I at least have two years locked pricing, or whether I'm going to stand by my previous conviction that I'd never give AT&T any of my hard earned money. At least if I grab a tmobile contract, I can feel like I'm screwing AT&T by paying less for a while. Then I can jump ship once my contract is over.
TMOUS would probably just sell to someone else if the ATT merger was denied or go out of business.
I don't understand why people are so against the merger really. I am happy with TMOUS but understand if they are not profitable enough to survive.
If there is a budget market out there I'm sure some other company will fill in the spot that TMOUS leaves open. If not then it was pretty obvious they they did the right thing.
Its no different that Cable TV companies. Survival of the fittest.

Your right but the government wouldn't allow that... from what I'm seeing the merger is going to go through, and the infrastructure of t-mobile will split up in some way. The end game for ATT is to acquire all or at the least most of t-mobile cell towers.
The fact is they can make it happen without monopolizing the industry because at the end of the day only certain states are at risk of monopolization.
ATT is not stupidly investing billions of dollars into attempting this merger when they know full well that their major problem preventing them from being okay'd is the fear of monopolization.
When I say Sprint is their major opposition I am stating that they are the ones highlighting the other downfalls besides monopolization

Yea that's probably a good idea. especially if you know for a fact that you can handle the current prices, because when things go through it may get worse or better, I'm highly doubting it will get better though. I would wait at least a year to lock anything in, it's gonna take at least 1 year to 1 and 1/2 before ATT can mess up tmobile rates on plans.

They also have a lot to gain if the AT&T merger doesn't get approved. They'd be able to buy T-Mobile for a lot less than $39B and they would. Their motive for scuttling the merger isn't because they're concerned about the little people. Once a company's "in play," which T-Mobile is, things can never go back to the way they were. Try to imagine a Sprint/T-Mobile merger with CDMA, Wi-MAX, and GSM. Not pretty.

I did get a new contract with the Sensations and am undecided if I'll stay. It will be difficult paying AT&T anything, even on a lower rate plan. I still have the unlimited data at $25.
It will be interesting to see how AT&T responds to us with contracts.

Yea exactly but that's almost always the case with business... But for them to be successful even with their selfish motives they have to bring legit reasons to the table why it shouldn't go through

Anyone requiring a GSM phone can't expect to be treated well if/when this merger happens. I'm in that boat, it's sinking and the sharks are circling...

If you got it now then most likely your contract will be up right around the time that Att gets full control over t-mobile... So it shouldn't be too painful for you... But you also have to ask yourself what's the better option... Verizon is probably the only choice but their rates are higher... They do have better quality connection on average though... It's a tuff decision man

the merging will go through no doubt about it but it's not confirmed publicly yet till next year.got this info from t-mobile corporate master dealers.lots of changes took place in t-mobile since afet the merging possibility news and still changing as we speak.
Is it me or does T-Mobile not have any phones worth wild coming out in the first 2 quarters of 2012? Ive noticed that other carriers have some sort or road map for the first half of the year but nothing from T-Mobile but mid level phones.

I think when they thought at&t would buy them they didn't order any highend stuff thinking they would get access to the att phones at least that's what the T-Mobile store told me

I just wish Sony Ericsson would make phones with frequency that we could use Tmobile 3G. I love their phones.

Tmobile has never been great with updating there phone line through the entire year. This year the only notable phones that came out in those two quarters were the g2x and the galaxy s 4g. It seems they always come around the end of the year for there serious upgrades like last year with the mytouch 4g and the g2 and this year with the Amaze and the galaxy s 2. Now don't think they won't have anything for the first two quarters. They could announce something and release it in a month like they do with most of there big name devices

Unfortunately, this is most likely the closest thing to the truth. It is likely that T-Mobile USA was focusing on their acquisition by AT&T rather than bidding for manufacturers to design phones for them, and now they're a bit behind on the process.

Again, look at there track record. They do the same thing every year. Just cause the story could fit doesn't mean it's the truth. With no facts backing up your theory it's just convoluted gibberish

They definitely do not need any new phones at this moment EXCEPT for a Galaxy Nexus.
The most recent launch was the amaze and the GS2, which was only in November. The last thing we need is for Tmobile to inundate us with in-between phones that garner little support from Tmobile in terms of updates. Just look at verizon and their monthly droid releases and how it affects the update situation. Motorola sure as hell doesn't have the 5-month old photon at the top of their ICS priority list.
And with little support from Tmo/manufacturer comes little support from the dev community. They just have very little to work with. There will be fewer devs per device AND fewer users per devices. It's just not worth it.
We don't need any more photon-like phones. We need solid yearly or bi-yearly releases like the GS2 or the Nexus line of phones.

Tmobile is a large corporation, I highly doubt that they would have one department twiddling their thumbs while those responsible for the acquisition details are waiting on approval.

Good luck with Spint. I live near their world headquarters and could not get a damn signal. Not to mention the billing arguments month after month when they over charged me. Spint has major issues. My fear is they will now make a move for T-Mobile. I will switch to Verizon if it happens.
To the OP...The white Galaxy SII is a ground breaking piece of technology!
I live near Sprint headquarters too and know some employees - or I should say some of their many laid-off employees. Got some scary stories about Sprint. They've been a bad joke for years.

I worked at tmobile for a few months and I can tell you that everybody has been laid off by every phone company. It's the business. Once a project ends everybody is let go and your off for 8 months trying to find the next project. I met people who worked for Sprint, Motorola, att and everything. The office I worked in was 90% out of towners. If you are not a nomad you shouldn't be in this field.

Yeah, they pretty much wait till almost every carrier brings out all the good phones before they decide to bring out theirs. Personally I'm really happy with my SGS2 and will probably wait for the SGS3. Spec wise I don't thing there will be anything all that much better to upgrade to.
G2X is also a great device, but had to switch phones because Nvidia will never release source and without it there is not much people can do with it.
Powered by the SGSII....
Well my girlfriend has sprint and has the same plan I have for about 20 buck's more. She gets service when I don't and always has service. When she has had to replace her phone she has been able to go into the store to exchange it for a new one. Ive been with tmo since the sidekick 2 and up until last September once I got the Vibrant and they turned around and released the 4g version with a front facing camera. Every since then its been a love hate thing with them. From the GSII having to processors changed to them delaying the updates on the vibrant.

If they bring the IPhone to T-Mobile, that would help with more customers and bringing in more money to build out the network. This is my personal opinion though.

The iphone users would crush the Tmobile network as it stands. The little money they'd get for subsidizing the iphone will go to repairing or returning its network to a pre-iphone state, not really an improvement.
Sprint was lucky to have met its deadline of improving its network a week or two after the iphone 4s launch, its network was in the ****ter until that point.
