Where's the new phones T-Mobile? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Is it me or does T-Mobile not have any phones worth wild coming out in the first 2 quarters of 2012? Ive noticed that other carriers have some sort or road map for the first half of the year but nothing from T-Mobile but mid level phones.

I think when they thought at&t would buy them they didn't order any highend stuff thinking they would get access to the att phones at least that's what the T-Mobile store told me

I just wish Sony Ericsson would make phones with frequency that we could use Tmobile 3G. I love their phones.

Tmobile has never been great with updating there phone line through the entire year. This year the only notable phones that came out in those two quarters were the g2x and the galaxy s 4g. It seems they always come around the end of the year for there serious upgrades like last year with the mytouch 4g and the g2 and this year with the Amaze and the galaxy s 2. Now don't think they won't have anything for the first two quarters. They could announce something and release it in a month like they do with most of there big name devices

Unfortunately, this is most likely the closest thing to the truth. It is likely that T-Mobile USA was focusing on their acquisition by AT&T rather than bidding for manufacturers to design phones for them, and now they're a bit behind on the process.

They definitely do not need any new phones at this moment EXCEPT for a Galaxy Nexus.
The most recent launch was the amaze and the GS2, which was only in November. The last thing we need is for Tmobile to inundate us with in-between phones that garner little support from Tmobile in terms of updates. Just look at verizon and their monthly droid releases and how it affects the update situation. Motorola sure as hell doesn't have the 5-month old photon at the top of their ICS priority list.
And with little support from Tmo/manufacturer comes little support from the dev community. They just have very little to work with. There will be fewer devs per device AND fewer users per devices. It's just not worth it.
We don't need any more photon-like phones. We need solid yearly or bi-yearly releases like the GS2 or the Nexus line of phones.

Tmobile is a large corporation, I highly doubt that they would have one department twiddling their thumbs while those responsible for the acquisition details are waiting on approval.

Good luck with Spint. I live near their world headquarters and could not get a damn signal. Not to mention the billing arguments month after month when they over charged me. Spint has major issues. My fear is they will now make a move for T-Mobile. I will switch to Verizon if it happens.
To the OP...The white Galaxy SII is a ground breaking piece of technology!

I live near Sprint headquarters too and know some employees - or I should say some of their many laid-off employees. Got some scary stories about Sprint. They've been a bad joke for years.

I worked at tmobile for a few months and I can tell you that everybody has been laid off by every phone company. It's the business. Once a project ends everybody is let go and your off for 8 months trying to find the next project. I met people who worked for Sprint, Motorola, att and everything. The office I worked in was 90% out of towners. If you are not a nomad you shouldn't be in this field.

Yeah, they pretty much wait till almost every carrier brings out all the good phones before they decide to bring out theirs. Personally I'm really happy with my SGS2 and will probably wait for the SGS3. Spec wise I don't thing there will be anything all that much better to upgrade to.
G2X is also a great device, but had to switch phones because Nvidia will never release source and without it there is not much people can do with it.
Powered by the SGSII....

Well my girlfriend has sprint and has the same plan I have for about 20 buck's more. She gets service when I don't and always has service. When she has had to replace her phone she has been able to go into the store to exchange it for a new one. Ive been with tmo since the sidekick 2 and up until last September once I got the Vibrant and they turned around and released the 4g version with a front facing camera. Every since then its been a love hate thing with them. From the GSII having to processors changed to them delaying the updates on the vibrant.

If they bring the IPhone to T-Mobile, that would help with more customers and bringing in more money to build out the network. This is my personal opinion though.

The iphone users would crush the Tmobile network as it stands. The little money they'd get for subsidizing the iphone will go to repairing or returning its network to a pre-iphone state, not really an improvement.
Sprint was lucky to have met its deadline of improving its network a week or two after the iphone 4s launch, its network was in the ****ter until that point.

wasnt expecting to stay with tmobile more than a year since i know the merger is already bought and paid for with the fcc. but tmobile has seriously disapointed me, they are nothing now like everything i have read and the people i talked to. must already be ATTMobile.

I will be headed for Verizon as soon as the ATT merger goes through but right now there is no point since in my area T-Mobile has the fastest data speeds by a long shot and the cheapest pricing as I am on a loyalty plan. That said, it is hit or miss with T-Mobile but if I don't get my way with customer service, I just keep calling back. I mean, I really can't think of any other provider that would have gave me a free Sensation and let me keep my G2X while still remaining contract free. Can you?

You'd think that after two different manufacturers both produce craptastic phones for the same carrier then the blame should really be leaning towards T-Mobile's allowance of said phones into their line-up..?

The Vibrant gave me GPS issues constantly... I guess this was a bigger issue for me since I was travelling a lot at the time. The GPS issues were widespread and poorly handled by Samsung in my opinion, also didn't like how they dropped the Vibrant and replaced it with a clone with a FFC under the disguise of Galaxy S 4G.
The final straw was once I started to notice my notification bar clock burning into the screen (along with some of the constantly displayed icons). I bailed before the problems got worse and argued with T-Mo till they at least gave me a free upgrade.

I'll never say "I'll never buy from "X" place" again. You aren't going to make a liar out of me. Samsung botched the vibrant (and a few others) and I along with nearly everyone else is drooling over the gs2. With this many different devices with different hardware and software variants, some are bound to be lemons. What I'd really wish t-mobile(and other carriers) would do is offer to reset phone upgrades for people with specific devices that have well known and documented issues. My old vibrant, for instance... everytime I call to complain about the gps issue, EVERY csr tells me this is a known issue and sends me a replacement. I've swapped it out 6 times in 9 months and even asked for a different phone of equal value and been shot down, as recent as 2 weeks ago. I don't want a free phone, I just want to be able to spend ANOTHER $200 on a "high-end" phone that works.

LG is now screwing its customers over just like Samsung used to. But yea. I don't believe for one second half these people will never buy LG again because as soon as the Nexus 3 hits, there is going to be a mass exodus of LG users. You also see how far boycotting samsung got you. No where. They now make some of the best devices out and have no problem selling them.

We were part of the 1,000 customers a week they dropped for 12 weeks back in 2007. They just dropped us after 6 years of being loyal customers. No notice, no warning, nothing. Just couldn't use our phones one day. Got a letter post marked a month later saying they were dropping customers with to many calls with complaints each month. Funny thing is, we may have called twice a year at most and that was only to pay the bill if me or my wife couldn't get online to pay the bill. We gave up and went to T-Mobile after 2 days of getting nowhere with them. They also had the nerve to charge us an etf for both lines plus an additional $100 per line for a texting plan we never had and tried to take it oyt of our bank account. My wife got the bank involved and fought it so they sent us a huge final bill. My wife told them to shove it. Haven't heard from them since.

To be fair, Sprint's Customer Service has had a complete 180 since they. It is mostly due to cases like this and the horrible reputation they got that led to a mass exodus of customers.
I got an Evo on launch day (June 2010) and my experience with Sprint CS was always really good. If it hadn't been for their ****ty data speeds and stalled WiMax rollout, I would probably still be with them.

Still would not switch to Sprint after what they did to us. Yes I tend to hold a grudge.
I'll be headed for VZW, my experiences with AT&T in all their incarnations of the name, haven't been good over a 40+ year time period.
Sprint is too expensive for what I want/need.
I'll see what AT&T does for a month or two but I'm off to VZW as soon as AT&T irritates me and experience tells me that'll be the very first time I call CS and get their standard "We don't care, we don't have to care, we're the phone company!"

[Q] If T-Mobile is sold to AT&T...

Will you switch services and what phone will you buy?
Depends on the prepaid prices and if current prices will be honored. If not, back to Virgin Mobile I will go. They're getting some good android phones, hopefully dev support picks up for them.
This depends on whether or not I can back out of my contract without paying. If I can, then I'm off to Verizon. I won't stick with AT&T if I don't have to, and I won't go back to Sprint.

What GSM carriers besides the two of them exist in North America? I mean, on a nation-wide scale. Because quite frankly, I can't think of a single one besides AT&T & T-Mobile.
If they're the only two nation-wide ones, and AT&T becomes the ONLY nation-wide GSM carrier, doesn't that make it a monopoly?

Yup, that's the idea of it. There has to be competition, or else they can really set the price to whatever they want, blahblahblah.
A while back, ATT nearly was a monopoly, and they were forced to split into many parts and sell those off to increase competition.. Now they are buying everyone back again lol. I used to have Cingular for my mobile service.. then they were bought by ATT about 8-10 years ago. Didn't have a problem with the merge, and my reception actually improved.
I remember having a bad experience with ATT when I moved and transferred my DSL service to my new apt. The service really sucked (it was too far from the connection office), and I wanted to cancel, but was told I still had 3 months left on the old contract. So I let the 3 months go by so I didn't have to pay an ETF.. after that, I called to cancel, and now, they said when I moved, I entered into a new yearly contract at the new address, and would be charged a $250 ETF. I did no such thing, and didn't sign any new contract. It was BS, and took over a month to get rid of them.
Was so pissed off I switched to Sprint later that year, and haven't had any ATT services for about 5 years. I'm happy with T-mo, and their pre-paid $50/month plan is pretty nice. I hope ATT doesn't change that, otherwise I'll be switching carriers again.
Homestly tmobile sucks, especially their customee service..they do provide the weakest lineup compare to other carriers..they dont have roll over minutes or one fav person as your favorite to use unlimites minutes..so for a person who talks a lot and has 1500 minutes still doesnt cut it!!

+1 My wife and I have had T-Mobile for about 10 yrs now and have always been happy. I have 4 lines (2 with 3000 minutes + unlimited text/data and 2 with 600 minutes and 300 texts). I have always been given great service the few times I had to call. They have always given us the new user discount 18-19 months into the contract for cheaper upgrades too. My work cell used to be AT&T, but then changed over to Verizon and I found both of them to be lacking in every way. I always check the Costco phone kiosk for deals. picked up a BB pearl the week it hit for $29, a Samsung Highlight the week it hit for free, and my SGS4G for $50 bucks back in February when it came out for allowing them to change my number on the renewed plan... lol. I missed the MT4g for a penny (yeah, $0.01) by a week for the wife, but still only paid $150 for it.
I'm not sure what I'll do. I guess that depends on what AT&T does with this side of their house. Might swing a GS2 in with a change over if/when it happens. All I know is T-Mobile has always been great to us and we have stayed b/c of that and they have the best plans/pricing out there.

Samsung makes me sad :(

Samsung were amazing with the Galaxy S line, no complaints there. The Infuse came along and it was pretty much the Galaxy's weirdly put together and slightly upgraded step brother. And as we all know, a hold over for the S2. Then the S2 comes out and everyone's excited. Hell yeah, party! Greatest phone ever made, yeah cool, whatever.
And we all love our phones. And then the Skyrocket. The freakin Skyrocket... This phone comes out a month after the S2. I mean, I love Samsung, but this phone release trend is outrageous. Yes people like HTC release a ton per year, but over many carriers. Samsung has three phones for the same carrier in six months. This just irks me. Please discuss.

and get used to it buddy. specially on AT&T. LTE is just starting up on AT&T. Meaning there is a wave of phones not far from shore. Samsung, HTC, Motorola it hasnt even started.

Android eco-system enables this. This is how they are outpacing apple.
S2 came out several months ago didn't it? I believe it was the US carriers creating the giant delay while everyone else in the world enjoyed it for a few months.

Yep - I think you're right. I heard at LEAST 2 more Samsungs by the EOY for Android/ATT alone. Plus a few more for TMobile, Sprint and Ver.
Guys its not like iPhones where the new phone takes an absolute dump on your phone. Samsung puts their best foot forward on most of their phones. Keyword MOST. the new phones are just incorperating the new technology such as LTE for att. Just enjoy the phone you have knowing that its not out of date yet since the new iphone only has 1/2 a gig of ram

I meant to say the new iphone takes a dunp on your old iphone. I accidently left it open. I didn't mean your samsung phone. If we look at the galaxy s vs the 4 the sgs had a power vr sgx 540 where as the 4 only had a 535. Not trying to turn this into a iphone vs android. Just using the new iphone old iphone model.

The moment you walk out with your phone its already obsolete because there is a new one coming. I actually perfer this "abundance" of phone. it gives us options.
I just don't like the fact that reps have no idea of up coming phones but the net does. I specifically asked about gs2 when I bought my infuse and att claimed to have no idea, 1.5 months later and its released.

I dont think the stores actually have an idea of what they are getting, keep in mind there are different departments which handle different stuff.
im guessing the retail part, just sells the device...
or they are complete asses and just dont say anything....
They just don't say anything. I have a friend who works for verizon and they learn about what the phone is as far as features before the phones come out

sorry to say this, but this thread is stupid.
that is like getting mad at mercedes, "i just bought this E class for 50,000$, now they come out with the new CLS!". haha
when you made your Android purchase, you have to accept that one fact that the turnover of devices are very very high... If you don't like this then you'd be better off with the iPhone.
Otherwise, think about how your phone, even though it might be like 4-5 devices behind the newest device, is still so much better than the newest iPhone in the market.
People really don't understand the point of this thread.... I just look at other companies that don't release 4 phones for one carrier in a 6 month span. I love Samsung just not this crap.

While I do agree with you to an extent, I think you miss an important factor that is causing this.
The Galaxy S line was 3G HSPA. Then AT&T launched their HSPA+ network, and the Infuse is "4G" with HSPA+ and halfway between the SGS and the SGS 2 lines. So the Infuse was thrown out there so Samsung had a high end HSPA+ phone. Then the SGS 2 came out as the full upgrade from the SGS line. It also had HSPA+ as that's still the dominant "4G" network for AT&T right now. Shortly after they release the SGS2 LTE with 4G LTE so they again have a high end phone on the best network AT&T has to offer.
So while it seems like they have released 4 phones in a year and a half, 3 of them upgraded their network support. They probably could have waited on the SGS 2 and just released an SGS2 LTE, but I suspect the SGS2 will drop in price faster than the LTE version will as the LTE network grows, giving them maybe a $100 and a $200 model, or even $150/200.
I don't think you'll see them release as many now that we don't have any network upgrades for another couple of years when they upgrade to LTE Advanced (and I suspect that will roll into LTE phones sooner rather than later).
But yeah, I know what you mean. I would have been pretty annoyed if I had bought an SGS2 and then the SGS2 LTE came out, but the LTE came out soon enough after the SGS2 that you could have returned the SGS2 for the SGS2 LTE if you wanted. They were JUST over 30 days apart, but the Skyrocket was announced before 30 days was up, so you could have returned immediately and used a temporary phone for a couple of days.
This thread isn't stupid...it makes a point
Their frequency of phone releases addresses AT&T's network upgrade needs, not Samsung.
AT&T contracts the OEM's to make devices for them. AT&T is paying boatloads for each device run. Thus they have an incentive to move 'old' devices out as soon as possible to make room for the latest tier. It's about recouping cost with device/accessory sales and new contracts.
Keep in mind, that unless you have confirmed LTE service in your area, paying full price for an LTE phone wouldn't make much sense. On contract? Sure and just wait for your LTE coverage to arrive.
AT&T got caught due to VZW's strong LTE push and the 'postponed' T-Mo M&A. So they have to make an LTE push in profitable markets and have a device that can answer VZW's offerings.
The bottom line in my opinion is for you the consumer to do your own homework and not rely on the salespeople to 'educate' you. They won't. They aren't trained to.
You have this forum, Google and more web rags on mobile tech than you could possibly read. A wealth of info for free where you can research and plan your purchase.
My Infuse and wife's Cappy are expected to remain in service for another 3 yrs. At that point I'll sell them to help offset the costs of their upgrades. If there's a need to upgrade soon than that, it'll be because the new device will fulfill a need these devices couldn't possibly fill.
Both of these phones are powerful and feature rich so I feel confident in their longevity.
Although, that flexible AMOLED screen tech is sexy!!! I'd love to see device designs!

The reason you piss people off so much is due mainly in part to how of an ass you are. Personally I don't care for iphones. Another thing is why is everyone who has sn iphone is a sheep? Some people genuinally prefer them. I think you talk way too much without thinking, and you really need to stay out of people's topics if your main objective is to cut them down, try to make every point they make seem invalid, and in a general sense just get on people's nerves.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was saying. And yes, I agree that the main issue is more than likely carrier related especially since Att is the only carrier that released a Skyrocket. This is what I'm looking for, discussion. Not for someone to sit here, call me stupid, and bash my topic and opinion in every way possible.

Left T-Mobile for Verizon, Now the Jokes on Me

Weeks ago when I made the decision to go with the S3 I decided that I didn't want to get stuck with the oddball US version (ie T-Mobile with no LTE).
After over a decade as a T-Mobile customer I jumped ship for Verizon and ordered my shiny new S3.
Now I find that the Verizon version is the only S3 on the planet with a locked bootloader AND Verizon has made absurd changes to the UI such as a persistent ongoing wifi notification with no way to disable it. They also REMOVED the standard wifi toggle.

I haven't even paid my first bill yet and I am irritated as hell with all of this. I guess the grass isn't always that much greener. Blah !
Sorry, just had to vent a bit. I'm normally the last person to complain about anything but I guess the stupidity of all of this tripped me off.

If you are within 14 days of activating the phone, you should be able to just cancel without any penalty according to this link:

This look like an older page, but it mentions a 30 day money back guarantee:

Yeah, I understand that but my days of traveling outside of the USA are over. I have zero plans for any international travel these days so in my case the LTE route made the most sense.
Now that the phone has root I'm around 90% sure the notification will be removed by users soon enough. The toggle still irks me but the devs are still making astounding progress. Everyone's jumping on the "we're doomed" bandwagon a bit soon, myself included. I didn't think we'd get root, but we have. I also didn't think it was even possible to get custom roms but they're making progress right now, just getting around the bootloader. Consider the fact that the phone isn't even in everyones hands yet and I think we've got some hope left. Just let them do their thing.

I sincerely hope that Tmo improves in the area of updating devices for you with the S3.
I'm an original Galaxy S owner (Vibrant on Tmo) and they completely abandoned it within 9 months of release. The Vibrant is the ONLY Galaxy S that was never officially updated to Gingerbread, and the GPS on this device has never worked properly.
I'm running an ICS rom on my Vibrant these days, but it still has it's idiosyncrasies that are annoying as hell.
The ironic thing is that I chose the Verizon S3 because I thought I'd be getting the "common" US version of the phone. As it turns out it's more of an oddball than the rest. sigh.
My great hope is that the stock version of the phone runs so well that I really won't care if I can't reflash it. I am also quite confident that we'll get an official version of Jellybean so I'm not feeling completely hopeless about the situation.

Haha, no matter. I'm facepalming myself at how much Verizon has screwed up this launch. Delaying the phone, shipping them seemingly randomly, the locked bootlauncher, and the bugged 4g. Verizon's made a huge mess of this launch and I'm sure it'll lead to some blushing and "please love us please?" treatment.

The complicating factor in my situation is that my wife switched with me, and she got the Droid 4 which she really likes (being the type that just HAS to have a hardware keyboard).
I'm probably going to have to stay put for now.
If the stock S3 runs smoothly and we are able to root and "fix" the wifi notification thing, I'll be satisfied for now.
Sad face... SORRY DUDE.
I'm a little fed up with T-mobile myself, and I've been with them since they were VOICESTREAM... so a LOOONG TIME. Up until June 2011 my 4 lines all had the $2.99 unlimited data (no 3g/4g)+30 mms deal... We were contract free for YEARS AND YEARS. Unlimited everything, blah blah blah... using iPhone's on edge so 3g/4g didn't matter... (still using iphones btw, except me - now trying the gs3). Then with the rumors of the AT&T merger in June 2011, I decided to lock in to a contract thinking I would get UNLIMITED data on AT&T for whatever the t-mobile price was ($20 for unlimited data, with the first 2gb at 4g? or something like that- whatever the promotion was)... At the time (6/2011) I didn't buy any new handsets even though all 4 lines qualified for full upgrade, because we all have iPhone 4's... I was told that IF/WHEN I wanted to buy a handset I could at full upgrade price *WITHOUT* re-extending that contract...
WELL - Guess what, NOPE. If I buy phones NOW, I have to re-sign for another 2 years starting from the purchase date of the phone.... I complained, moaned, *****ed.... They don't care.
RIGHT NOW I'LL SAY: Come June 2012, I'm LEAVING T-mobile and NEVER LOOKING BACK. I can go to a pre-paid service, save money, get better service, high speed data, etc... That may change in 12 months, but we'll see.
I jumped from Verizon to t-mo simply because after having a thunderbolt, razr, and a gnex I know exactly how bad most everything with lte is on battery life. Now on t-mobile I'm getting 4+ hours of screen time and 23 meg d/l. Best of both world for me.
