o2x gingerbread delayed - T-Mobile LG G2x

Wonder if the g2x update may be getting delayed as well.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/06/10/did-lg-delay-gingerbread-on-the-scandinavian-optimus-2x/

Geez I hope this isn't the case! WTF LG?

I would not be surprised - given LG's decision to release it with froyo on it to begin with. If it is the fall - that is when 2.4 is supposed to come out. That one would be worth the wait - but that long of a delay for 2.3 is ridiculous. That would definitely establish that LG is NOT ready for prime-time in this market.
If 2.3 is delayed, it would be helpful if TMo would make that public. The dev's could then focus on their current ROM's and kernels and not hold up waiting for a phantom OTA to be released.
Might even see some more development of kernels for froyo if this is the case. I am currently back on froyo (and faux kernel) after trying versions of the leaked GB with and without kernels.
May have to give Nightly CM7 a try at some point. I was on RC's and Nightlies on my Mt4G before I made the switch.

G2X
I was told yesterday by T-Mobile tech support that the G2X has been pulled. They are going to replace mine with the HTC Sensation.

I just called tech support and they told me that they would replace mine with an LG star. Lol. No way. Are they replacing it straight up or do you have to pay.

I actually heard from my nieghbor who is in upper mgmt at tmo, that tmo isn't going to release gingerbread and that next month they will announced the coming merger with at&t. He also said it will most likely mean the end of any contracts with tmo and every one will be forced to switch to a new contract with at&t. This is coming from upper management at tmo. He said this wont be made public or released to any media until it actually happens so people don't run to vrz or spent. Guessed he leaked it to me he don't know I'm on xda...

pics or it didn't happen

That's strange since it hasn't been apporved yet and T-Mobile is still coming out with devices.

WHAT!? well i'm fine with that as long as i have the option to say no to at&t without being penalized with cancellation fees. guess i should check out the Photon that just came out on sprint....

Like he said, it hasn't been approved. The FCC (FTC? I don't know) just sent out questionaires to the other carriers concerning the merger. So I call BS!
But I'll have to agree that this definately looks like the GB update won't happen "by summer". What a pitiful mess this phone is.
When I called yesterday,I was not told I could get anything but the G2 which I found astounding last years model???...."We don't have anything compatable" "What about the Sensation"? " That's our premier phone" "I thought the G2X was? "Well whatever is the newest is our premier phone""Well I want a Sensation""Can't have one"
It was later when I said I was willing to pay for the Sensation that it was offered to me with a updated contract at the"contract price"
So if they offer you a Sensation jump on it.

Not to freak anyone out but there's a "right to assignment" clause in your T-Mobile contract. In essence it gives them the right to assign your contract to any and all successors to T-Mobile. The only legal out you'd have is if AT&T changed the terms and conditions of your service. AT&T may choose not to enforce it, and make people stay against their will, but its certainly within their legal right.

Sprint sucks.
You really think they'll let you out of the contract? They surely will. If you pay them for the privilege.

As long as they don't change the terms I'm willing to ride it out with AT&T...then it's off to Sprint.

if you believe that, i feel sorry for you.

The O2X doesn't run stock Android, so I can imagine an update taking longer for that phone.

i certainly don't but i'd like to pretend.... but i've arranged to get a sensation for free as an exchange. just waiting for the 15th for tmobile to send me mine.

Love these guys with there bogus claims.
Buddy, I was with Tmobile today in our store. The merger is not approved and is not expected to get a ruling for at least 3 more months min. Also it was clearly stated on the Tmobile press release and part of the merger details that ALL timobile contracts will be honored fully and NOT CHANGED for the duration of the Tmobile customers contract and can also be grandfathered and kept by the Tmo customer for as long as they are a customer. So if you have a Unlimited 59.oo plan per say with data at 30.00 You can keep it forever if you choose.
As for the G2x. It has not been deleted from Tmobile as after very slow opening sales. It is now there number 2 selling phone behind the current touch model. It is out of stock for now and will be replenished when it gets back. Stores and subcontract locations are still selling and getting stock.
I love 1 post wonders with bogus information.

I found these pics from E3. In one of the photos at the very bottom it looks like the G2x is indeed running Gingerbread. Take a look and see what you guys think:

2 seconds from canceling tmobile..

Ill give the short version... preordered on the 15th. told i'd get today. rep NEVER told me i needed to sign some email for verification. Email was sent to some god awful old address i dont even use. all that was offered was a $10 credit. Ive been w/ tmobile since like 02' and thats the best they can do??. call back and he can give a free month but only if i extend for 2 yrs....no thanks. So now i have to go to the store tomorrow and wait another day to get the phone. Oh ya btw i dropped my current phone in the toilet and it doesnt work so i have no phone @ the moment. im so livid I cant even see straight...... seriously considering another carrier just off of principle alone..
Call and talk to customer retention... They'll do much better.

both offers WERE from retention...i thought they could do much better as well.
Wait, what email? I received no email. Did you get tracking info?
Retention's not doing deals like they used to. I got a G2 from them for $249 with 16 months left on my contract. For the G2X they (mutiple agents) told me if I wanted to go to VZW, maybe I should. My average bill per month for the past 12 months is $350ish because of international roaming. Once the AT&T deal closes I'm going to take their advice and move back to VZW. By then, VZW will have LTE well implemented and a dual-core Android worldphone. With high-value post paid customer gone, T-Mobile can focus all thier attention on $29 per month prepaid customers which, based on CSR attitude, is what they'd prefer.
They did the 249 for me on 2 g2x. I was at the sprint store.
I would of had a deposit on sprint. So it evened out.

it seems like your right. I mean lets be serious. they KNOW i want the phone. hell I already bought accesorries for it so ya I am going to get it. its just how they went about the whole thing was so wrong i could not believe i was speaking with tmobile. The last guy who offered the free month w/ 2yr extension @ one point said " what do you want us to do?" and not in a helpful way. Like a "we dont care if you cancel;good riddance" kind of way. im still in shock over the whole thing. But its like im trapped. either shake this off and get the phone or go with another carrier, get charged an ETF for breaking contract then getting a higher bill with AT&T, sprint ,etc.
I had a $400 flexpay available which I took... There was on ONLINE form which required me to type in my name.
The only email I got was that my payment went through and it shipped.
Mine said it was supposed to be here Monday so I sold my N1 online. I called last night because it hadn't arrived nor had UPS showed it was even shipped. The lady on the phone told me that online orders were "pre-orders" and the phone wasn't even supposed to ship until Wednesday. I had her and her manager go to the website and tell me where, anywhere, did it say a preorder. I also said people were getting them already and they "assured" me that no one was getting them yet.
I actually had the supervisor cancel the order because I said I'd rather pick it up Wednesday rather then have it ship Wednesday. 20 minutes after I got off the phone, UPS showed it was picked up and scheduled for next day delivery. So I don't even know if they cancelled it or just got it shipped.
Just cancel it and pick one up at the store tomorrow. At this point it isn't even worth fighting with them to get it shipped. I ordered mine Friday with standard shipping and I just got mine a few minutes ago.
Customer retention did me right on today. To make a long story short I have had problems with my Vibrant since day one back in July. From the GPS to the freezing and reboots. T-Mobile has sent me 5 Vibrants since August and when I called on today I asked to speak with a manager. I told them I would like to cancel my account because I spent $500 on a phone and they have done nothing to fix it for me. I told them I tried every GPS fix known to man but none of them worked to my standards. I play golf and use Skydroid so I need the GPS to be pretty damn accurate. It worked fine on my N1 and MyTouch 3g. She then said "I can give you a $200 credit if you upgrade your device." I told her if she looked at my account I haven't been under contract with them for 3 years and have purchased my last 4 devices off contract so what makes you think I want to sign a 2 year contract now with this AT&T merger looming around. She asked me how they could keep me as a customer and I asked her what the value of my used Vibrant was. She told me $354. I then said, "the only way I will remain a T-Mobile customer is if they buy my Vibrant back for $354 and I purchase a G2x off contact for the difference". She put me on hold for 5 minutes and came back and said they would be willing to do that and would ship my G2x tomorrow and after I receive it I have 7 days to return my Vibrant. She even asked me if I would like to pay for the G2x right now or just add the cost to my bill. I chose to pay it now and should have a G2x in my hand by Friday for less than what people are paying to upgrade. Big deal, my Vibrant is gone but I got two cores of goodness for a little over $150 off contract.
Ask for a rep to come bring you a phone immediately. That's how you only paid $100 for the phone with no contract right?

Awesome. This is what retention is meant for. You had a real serious legitimate issue and were considering cancelling. The people that are saying retention isn't doing what they used to are likely people that threaten to cancel whenever they want to get something. T-Mobile sees your history and how often you talk to retention or get deals from them. Eventually they will just call your bluff.

That's the full discounted price of the phone, so sounds like a good deal they gave you, but they should never had told u to go back to VZW, they should have went thru the bill and lowered it and also gave you an unlock code for your current phone so when you roam internationally you can just grab a pre-paid sim from where ever you are for way cheaper prices.

I definitely wasn't calling you out specifically, more just a general statement, or if anyone specifically it was Barry that said they aren't doing what they used to.
Regarding your situation, if they offered you a free month, that is usually the most retention will give as far as financial credits, and it will always require a 2 year contract from my experience (in customer care, not as a customer threatening to cancel).
You really want to go to some crap company over a couple days, when you are the one who ruined your other phone?? And if you are buying this, I am sure you can afford to spend $20 for a prepaid at walmart to give you the basic functionality that is essential. Geesh

I was still in contract with 10 months to go for a full upgrade. When I called, I asked about the upgrade. When the CSR told me I didn't qualify for the upgrade I immediately asked how much it would be just to cancel the service. She said "$200" and my reply to her was "Thats it? I may as well just do that then." She right away offered me a full upgrade.
I too had to go along with the electronic signature but my CSR was nice enough to ask me what email to send it to and let me know when it was coming. I feel for you, man. It's a shame that most companies are straying away from quality customer service, especially with consumers that have been long term with the company. I guarantee if you were a new customer, they would have bent over backwards for you.

G2X/Sensation Exchange Question?

I purchased my G2X 4/19 through the retentions department and never exchanged yet. It's been fairly good to me so far other than the internet dns issues. I have been waiting around for the updates to come but who knows when that will come. I am now experiencing random reboots and phone getting hot in my pocket for no reason. I want to call in report the issues to tmobile for an exchange but really would hate to receive a refurb device and only to receive a worse device than I have.
I know the website has been showing out of stock for the last month but does TMobile have devices readily available for exchanges or are those also out of stock? I'm trying to figure out if I could somehow use this in my favor if I can ask them if I could have a sensation instead?
I have been lied to so many times by different reps. One says they can give ne the galaxy s 4g for free (which I don't want). The other says I could pay $50 to get the sensation. I said no to that. The next Rep stated there are no offers other than exchanging for the same thing. I am on my fourth G2X and it is getting rediculous. I emailed a long letter to a bunch of the corporate execs about this unacceptable and incobsistent service. We will see what happens. Their whole thing is that the g2x msrp is $499 whereas the sensation is $549. They say the sensation is a more expensive phone and you have to pay to "upgrade", even though it is the only comparable replacement at this point.

Then pay the $50 and get the Sensation. If the Sensation is $50 more then it is $50 more. If you walked into a Tmobile store right now, they wouldn't sell you a Sensation for $500.
Basically they are giving you a refund of $500 to put toward another phone. That is pretty generous.
If the OP hasn't had any problems then I'm going to assume he hasn't called in any replacements. They typically don't offer other models until they've shipped out 3 replacements (the 4th offering a different make/model). I think the OP is asking whether they still have refurbs to send out... which I think they still do. So you'd probably have to go through the whole replacement process for a while, which isn't cool just to get a different phone.
I had a replacement shipped to me once and it had horrible backlight bleeding. I called and told them it was defective and shipped it back. My original phone I bricked but revived, thankfully.
All in all, I would call and ask and see what they say. If they send you a refurb, send it back it is worse off.
The only way your going to get a even replacement is getting a rep who actually knows about phones and is willing to get a supervisor override.

After being treated like crap with customer service, I wrote a well worded letter and sent it to all the big wigs at TMobile corporate figuring I would finally get the sensation for free (if they valued my service). I asked for the sensation at no charge or for them to let me out of my contract since they continue to give me a faulty phone. Cindy Maes called me today and stated that they would accept the $50 upgrade but they would do no more. She also said they would not let me out of contract. When I mentioned filing a complaint with the BBB, she said she looks into all complaints from them and that she would not be calling me back and the offer would no longer be valid!!! Now that is guts. No wonder they have been slipping in service year after year......
Should I just pay the $50 for the sensation?

is the problem just light bleed or are you having freezing/reboot problems...just a fair warning the sensation is without it's faults also. You are most likely to get dust under the screen due to poor manufacturing. My wife has the same issue with her MT4G but it doesn't bother her like it would me. Just don't be surprised if you run into issues with the sensation.

I think all these manufacturers need a lesson in QC/QA, or at least fire the staff they currently have and get a new one. It's seems commonplace that all Android devices are not created equal. I will say this much about the iPoop, that if one person has the death grip issues all 20 million of their devices do.

Well writing a "well worded" letter to corporate doesn't guarantee you anything especially if its demanding. Getting a $500 phone for $50 is a good deal and you should have jumped on it- assuming they let you keep the g2x also.
They said I would have to send back the G2X............
At this point is so freaking hard to judge which phome to keep since both seem to have issues.
What makes me want to keep my G2x is the unlock bootloader and the Tegra 2 plus the super snappy interface.
Where I start thinking if I should get the Sensation over the G2x is that the G2x haven't been in their website for over a month and this delayed updates making LG and T-Mobile look very very unreliable.
I will be starting a business and I need a reliable phone that will be supported.
Anyway, any thoughts?

And yet they did and I'm going so far as to predict Samsung will topple part of Apple's stranglehold on the smarthphone and tablet market.

Absolutely not. This will definitely be the last. The way they put a strangle hold on the carrier with this phone is ridiculous. They should stop making phones all together.

almost everything i own is lg i guarantee as i replace it wont be.
and ill play around with the g2x until a good phone comes out on verizon my update is good in august there and it looks like i can keep unlimited data, glad i didnt cancel it. i should be able to sell the g2x to pay off the etf on tmobile. and only loss will be the differnce between g2x sale and 400 - 200etf 200 phone.
wasnt expecting to stay with tmobile more than a year since i know the merger is already bought and paid for with the fcc. but tmobile has seriously disapointed me, they are nothing now like everything i have read and the people i talked to. must already be ATTMobile.

I will be headed for Verizon as soon as the ATT merger goes through but right now there is no point since in my area T-Mobile has the fastest data speeds by a long shot and the cheapest pricing as I am on a loyalty plan. That said, it is hit or miss with T-Mobile but if I don't get my way with customer service, I just keep calling back. I mean, I really can't think of any other provider that would have gave me a free Sensation and let me keep my G2X while still remaining contract free. Can you?

You'd think that after two different manufacturers both produce craptastic phones for the same carrier then the blame should really be leaning towards T-Mobile's allowance of said phones into their line-up..?
Previous Samsung Vibrant user here and still the same T-Mo customer service bullsh*t with the G2x.

@jrwingate6
The Vibrant gave me GPS issues constantly... I guess this was a bigger issue for me since I was travelling a lot at the time. The GPS issues were widespread and poorly handled by Samsung in my opinion, also didn't like how they dropped the Vibrant and replaced it with a clone with a FFC under the disguise of Galaxy S 4G.
The final straw was once I started to notice my notification bar clock burning into the screen (along with some of the constantly displayed icons). I bailed before the problems got worse and argued with T-Mo till they at least gave me a free upgrade.

I'll never say "I'll never buy from "X" place" again. You aren't going to make a liar out of me. Samsung botched the vibrant (and a few others) and I along with nearly everyone else is drooling over the gs2. With this many different devices with different hardware and software variants, some are bound to be lemons. What I'd really wish t-mobile(and other carriers) would do is offer to reset phone upgrades for people with specific devices that have well known and documented issues. My old vibrant, for instance... everytime I call to complain about the gps issue, EVERY csr tells me this is a known issue and sends me a replacement. I've swapped it out 6 times in 9 months and even asked for a different phone of equal value and been shot down, as recent as 2 weeks ago. I don't want a free phone, I just want to be able to spend ANOTHER $200 on a "high-end" phone that works.

I started this thread and never once did I say I wouldn't buy another LG. When the behold II debacle hit, I never said I wouldn't buy a Samsung. This thread was simply starting the obvious. LG is now screwing its customers over just like Samsung used to. But yea. I don't believe for one second half these people will never buy LG again because as soon as the Nexus 3 hits, there is going to be a mass exodus of LG users. You also see how far boycotting samsung got you. No where. They now make some of the best devices out and have no problem selling them.

AT&T/T-Mobile merger confirmed???

Just saw a commercial for AT&T where they are literally saying they will have more cell sights once they merge with T-Mobile. I thought this was still in the approval stage??? So was this finally approved? If so, this is really gonna suck!

It's not confirmed but basically...
It's not confirmed but basically... it's looking like the merger is going to go through... they just jumped the gun, but for good reason the only real opposition they face is Sprint but one company probably won't be enough to mess up the merger, and it may not suck. If they want to keep customers, they have to maintain the quality that people are used to from both companies when they merge them. At first it's gonna be a mess but I think in the long run it's a good thing.

Basically, we are about to be stuck between a biopolly as our choice. Sprint is too small to be on the same field as Verizon and at&t-mobile.

Also it's not about one company standing in the way. It's about the federal government, the FCC approving the deal. It's about everyday people playing their parts and writing to their congressman and to their senators as I have to tell them that we don't need or want this merger.

I say suck because I remember when I went through the Cingular to AT&T merger and I was treated like dirt. T-Mobile is one if the last companies I actually don't mind paying every month because of the stellar customer service they provide, and the amazing plan I have. That super limited data plan new iPhone customers get with AT&T is a joke. I am praying for the best, but expecting the worse. Strap in, here we go folks!!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I really hope that if this does happen we dont have the same awful data plans as the iphone 4. Thats one of the main reasons i didnt go with att.

I have been a t-mo customer and I love the service. When this happens it's going to HUGE change for the current t-mo customers. We as current t-mo customers are not going to be happy.
You have to realize, AT&T didn't force T-Mobile in to this deal. Deutsche Telekom sold T-Mobile U.S. because they didn't have the cash to make it competitive and it was under performing financially. And the deal is officially done. It can become undone if it doesn't get U.S. approval but until and unless that happens both companies are preceding toward closing the deal. I'll bet you too that when T-Mobile discloses their Q2 numbers they're going to be bloody. Q1 was awful and that was with no impact from the merger announcement. Q2's results will help justify the need for the merger and most likely accelerate its approval.

SIGH. I'm contract FREE with tmobile right now. Now undecided whether to run in and get a contract, so I at least have two years locked pricing, or whether I'm going to stand by my previous conviction that I'd never give AT&T any of my hard earned money. At least if I grab a tmobile contract, I can feel like I'm screwing AT&T by paying less for a while. Then I can jump ship once my contract is over.
TMOUS would probably just sell to someone else if the ATT merger was denied or go out of business.
I don't understand why people are so against the merger really. I am happy with TMOUS but understand if they are not profitable enough to survive.
If there is a budget market out there I'm sure some other company will fill in the spot that TMOUS leaves open. If not then it was pretty obvious they they did the right thing.
Its no different that Cable TV companies. Survival of the fittest.

Your right but the government wouldn't allow that... from what I'm seeing the merger is going to go through, and the infrastructure of t-mobile will split up in some way. The end game for ATT is to acquire all or at the least most of t-mobile cell towers.
The fact is they can make it happen without monopolizing the industry because at the end of the day only certain states are at risk of monopolization.
ATT is not stupidly investing billions of dollars into attempting this merger when they know full well that their major problem preventing them from being okay'd is the fear of monopolization.
When I say Sprint is their major opposition I am stating that they are the ones highlighting the other downfalls besides monopolization

Yea that's probably a good idea. especially if you know for a fact that you can handle the current prices, because when things go through it may get worse or better, I'm highly doubting it will get better though. I would wait at least a year to lock anything in, it's gonna take at least 1 year to 1 and 1/2 before ATT can mess up tmobile rates on plans.

They also have a lot to gain if the AT&T merger doesn't get approved. They'd be able to buy T-Mobile for a lot less than $39B and they would. Their motive for scuttling the merger isn't because they're concerned about the little people. Once a company's "in play," which T-Mobile is, things can never go back to the way they were. Try to imagine a Sprint/T-Mobile merger with CDMA, Wi-MAX, and GSM. Not pretty.

I did get a new contract with the Sensations and am undecided if I'll stay. It will be difficult paying AT&T anything, even on a lower rate plan. I still have the unlimited data at $25.
It will be interesting to see how AT&T responds to us with contracts.

If you got it now then most likely your contract will be up right around the time that Att gets full control over t-mobile... So it shouldn't be too painful for you... But you also have to ask yourself what's the better option... Verizon is probably the only choice but their rates are higher... They do have better quality connection on average though... It's a tuff decision man

AT&T's Merger with T-Mobile May Actually Fall Through
OHN HUDSON AUG 12, 20113,533 ViewsComments
In a surprising turn of events, the mega merger that consumer watchdogs decried, but most deemed a fait accompli, faces a real risk of disintegrating at the hands of federal regulators. Last night, a new poll of policy analysts examining the proposed $39 billion merger between AT&T and T-Mobile found that the deal was now more likely to fail than pass FCC and Justice Department approval, according to an average taken from the respondents

I'd have to think with the few billion and extra cell sites T-Mobile would get from the deal falling through, we might make out okay. If the deal went through, we'd be doomed. AT&T is the worse provider in the world and should be shut down.

Agree
Agree. Really hope the deal fails like flat breaks.
I would love to see the deal fall through considering I just paid two ETFs of 200 dollars to leave ATT last night and switch to T-mobile. I've been with ATT for almost ten years, dealing with tech support and unresolved issues was the last straw.
Either way, Tmobile people will win.
If the deal fails - there is a roaming agreement with ATT, and Tmobile gets cash + spectrum (enough spectrum to deploy LTE - which is odd since ATT says they don't have enough as it is).
If the deal does go through, then you have a combined network, and your plan will be grandfathered in.
Either way, service is going to be improved.

My service is excellent now. If AT&T gets it grubby little paws on the network in NYC, its going to go down hill. AT&T does not grandfather plans. Once my contract is up, my plan goes up. I HATE AT&T will a passion. To the point that any media outlet that runs this AT&T "the possibilities are impossible to predict..." advertisement, I boycott that media source.
What's the cheapest plan anyone has in here?

My fear is this...
I had a bad experience with Cingular back in the day and it left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. I'm not normally one of those people that says "never again!" to things based on one support rep, bad billing issue, etc... I'll normally work through a brunt of issues before declaring war on a company.
I won't go into great detail but it is war now. It's made me consider cancelling my plan with Tmobile and withdrawing service to someone/something else. If ever there is a time to investigate gizmo and sip service with wifi, it's now... I'm not completely there yet, but I have begun to investigate.
The first sign of doomsday has already struck, my unlimited loyalty plan has slowly increased in price, and I haven't changed single thing about my plan and now I suddenly have a cap on my "unlimited" data... the tmobile I signed up with back in 2004 is not the same tmobile it is now... and I've only just recently noticed it. Yes, it is possibly because since the news of the merger I have feared the worst... but so far it's grim. It seemed like they have also slowed down production on new phones for tmobile, I'm assuming this is because of network merging etc that they are focusing their eyes on other tasks first, but I'm disheartened to say the least.
I hope that I am proven wrong because I already hate Sprint and I'm not 100% sold on verizon either. Tmobile, please, reconsider your "unlimited data" plans and give me what I pay for... otherwise you should have given me the option to change and void my contract instead of changing it and saying "deal with it", which has never been your MO until the news of a merger.
/rant
Sadly this is ATT's tactic. They are trying to scare away as many customers from tmob as they can. The weaker tmobile is the easier the buyout will pass.
The commercials they are running make me sick.
Lets all go into an at&t store and kick them all in the ass

New info:
http://www.techflash.com/seattle/2011/08/fcc-wants-info-on-att-tmobile-merger.html
Its funny I remember being a kid and there was no verizon or cell phones even. The Govt broke up the monopoly and created the baby bells to promote competition and make phone service affordable and give us a choice.
Now cell phones are today what landlines were back then and they are doing just the opposite. AT&T wants Tmobile to get rid of competition. The less choices one has the more customers for AT&T.
In todays economy everyone has to look at costs. My company just switched to Tmobile because of the new business plans that they started to offer. If the merger goes through and the plans don't grandfather in, I cant see my company staying with AT&T but for two years they get to save some money.
Stephenson is a giant turd.
