[Q] Using Faux123 [Kernel]Skyrocket[2.6.35.14](v0.0.8) with Latest QwikWiz - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I've been using the latest QwikWiz for a couple of weeks now and I've been pleased with the results thus far (other than the speech to txt not working anymore, and when it does, it says 'canadian english'), but I was wondering if anyone has tried installing this kernel and using qwikwiz at the same time? I'm not even sure if its possible (im new at this kinda stuff). Just wondering what peoples thoughts/experiences were.

This Kernel should work on ALL roms less CM7.
Make a nandroid and Flash. it will NOT prem bork your phone. if anything all you will have to do is get back into CMW and restore your nandroid and it bring your phone all the way back to the point you backed up at, with data, kernel, apps, setting, messages, and all that good stuff.
so flash away bruh.

The qwikwiz says it was OC'd to 1.83, and this kernel says it is 1.7....is this slower than what the ROM was pushing the processor to?

it was running da_g kernel is why so if u use faux kernel which is more stable.... then u can only overclock to 1.7
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium

I never had any stability issues with the other kernel. Only issue I had was that the speech to text would stop working randomly (until i did a soft reset), and then it would still say I was in Canadian English...but after awhile that would stop working again. I guess I'll give this one a go and see how its like. Worst case scenario, I guess I could always roll back.

Pretty happy with this.
Using NexusmodI717 with Gideonx script.
No issues.

I attempted to use faux123's kernel but was having issues with my device not going into "deep sleep"...
Now I may only have 10 posts here on XDA but I would like to state that I did unplug the charger and used CPU Spy to see if my device would go into deep sleep when not in use.
I then switched to Da_G's kernel (0.42 for ROGERS) and my device sleeps when not in use.

I had the same issue too with faux kernel not going into deep sleep, but it seems to be fine now. One thing I would like to mention is battery life is kinda dissapointing for me. I know it could be just me but I'm using tpc v3 with faux and I'm getting half the b-life I had wit Da_g kernel. Any suggestions?

I m using Quikwiz w Faux123 and everything seems fine. Goes to sleep every time. and battery is about 1 to 2% per hour while sleeping. and that is OC`d to 1.72. very pleased with this combo.

charge battery, then falsh kernel
charge til full then turn off phone and turn it on.
go to battery calabration, you can get it in the market..
let it charge up to 4200 then calabrate.
if this doesn't work then charge to 4200 again calabrate again.. then boot into cwm and clear bat stat, let it die.. then charge to 100/4200.
then calabrate again.. and enjoy

Is battery calibration necessary? And also what roms r u guys using wit faux that is good for battery life? I'm planning to change my rom from tpc to something else

Red sonja Here
had good battery life before the kernel.
and i am using spb 3d Shell.....which uses more battery than the stock launcher. so im sure it will be even better that way.

Been using the two with limited issues. Phone is snappiest it has been, and scores slightly better in every benchmark
Idle battery loss is an improvement....but it seems to drain faster than da g's .3 kernel did while in use
Still testing though...we have 5 batteries and one may be bad.
On this battery today I have had the best battery life on faux kernel since flashing it.
We put the ??? Battery in our other skyrocket today (which is running .3 with quickwiz) to see if we can narrow it down.
My phone is definitely sleeping, but only uses 1.72 or 384 mhz

Tegrak overclock app?

Anyone else use this app to overclock? Im bored at work and instead of working I just installed it and ran quadrant, which I know that's all its really good for, and hit over 1900 at 1.3 ghz. Im gonna leave it there for a bit to see if anything goes wrong...
Edit: eats battery like buttery salty movie theatre popcorn!

I don't understand why anyone wants to overclock our phones? From everything I have read all it will do is decrease battery life and give higher quad scores which really mean nothing.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
i think whats more important, or more NEEDED, is voltage control.
be it voltage control for OC'ing or Voltage Control for underclocking, or just dropping the voltages as low as you can go while maintaning the stock phone speeds.
this is one thing i miss about the EVO.

Because its fun. Of course there is no practical value in it I even said that. I personally just like to mess with my phone to mess with it and I'm sure others do too. does a theme make your phone run better or more efficiently are they important to practicality? No it just changes its looks so why do people do that? It's fun.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I mean...there's plenty of practical reasons to overclock, e.g. better performance in a game. But if you're sitting around playing a game for a while, I doubt your concern is battery life to begin with.
tegrak uses module overlock similar to how the dx/d2/milestone are able to oc/uv without the ability to accept custom kernels
its not ideal (for those that overclock) compared to actual custom kernels with oc steps.
that being said, overclock isnt particularly important on 1ghz and up processors..whereas the eris/og droid needed it to compensate
I am using it, overclocked to 1.3 and then using setcpu to keep it at 800. I just want to have the speed and power there if needed
edit: just got a 1719 score in quadrant on 1.3

I'm on Eclair rooted w/ Voodoo and regularly pull 1800+ Quadrant scores and get a solid 12hr. of battery life with screen brightness at around 60% (easily visible outside). I have no idea why anyone would want to use an OC tool... other than to have than extra bit of control that would allow you to undervolt even further for additional battery life.
EDIT-
To:Zach - I'm calling your boss to tell them that you're off-task and that they should make you quit the OC'ing and get back to work ASAP.

i FOUND A TERRIFIC WAY TO KEEP great battery. Go into your task manager and kill all level 2 process' then lock your screen. It will not allow your launcher to start back up until you go back into it. I'll post another screen shot when I'm around 10%
Calibrate your battery everytime you flash a new kernel. theres an app in the market. follow the.instructions and wait a day or two.

Battery life
Hi all,
I'm new to the android market and a lot of the lingo. Can anyone explain and/or walk me through how to get better battery life? I've gotten several apps from the market that seem to work a little, or at least give the illusion of working (i.e. apkik, juice defender, android booster). So far, juice defender seems to be the only one working halfway decently. What exactly does UV kernel and bali kernel refer to?
Thanks.
I have also considered rooting the system to get rid of some of the crap apps that can't be removed from the phone, but am scared that I will ruin it. Any info will be much appreciated.

I assume you are completely stock? Look for the rooting thread first, after you root look into the Bali Kernel in the development section. UV stands for under volting, meaning your device uses less battery to operate. Along with that, the kernel speeds up your phone quite a bit from stock. Better battery life, snappier response times, sound improvement, etc.
hope this helps
btw, im going on 18+hrs @31%
29h 3m 32s @ 25% battery left.
SWEET! Calibrated my battery. keep data and wifi off unless i need it.

ill consider this moderate.. PLUS my battery is only 1500mah.

Ok I honestly do not understand how do you guys get that good battery life. I tried everything, black backgrounds, juice defender, calibrated battery, minimum brightness, no widgets. And this is almost a week after the flash so the battery should be calibrated properly by now. I barely even used my phone today but for some reason it died at 6pm......I unplugged it at 9am. I think there's something running in the background that's eating my battery. When you guys clear ram and reload the launchers, what is the used ram usually at? Mine stays at 240, and I think it's a LITTLE too much.

Wow I suggest you download CPU master from the market, which will help you setup a profile to underclock your CPU when it gets to a certain temperature.... or if your an advanced user go to the g2x android development section and install a pre UV/OC kernel for your particular rom. This will help you regulate your battery temp and maximize battery life...... otherwise ask T-Mobile for a new battery
thanks

Do a complete hard G2x earsing all except camera files, hard reset. (hold volume down and power)
It recognizes the battery as 1500 vs 1200, is the theory....all I know is those who suggested first...were correct. My G2x is noticeably cooler since.

You did not say which ROM you are on. If only stock. the hard reset might do the trick. if custom ROM - wipe and reflash.
I had an episode a few days ago with a combination of a ROM and kernel - and it got really hot - especially when trying to recharge. I am sure there was some issues with the flash, as I had used these before.
I shut it down, totally wiped, and restored a nandroid. It actually cooled down while recharging after that. Charging now and temp only 88.5.
First off get a new battery. Your shortening your bat lifespan when its cooking so just get a new one. But in the meantime if you haven't done so root your phone w/ s1c. Keep stock rom. Install titanium vacuous pro. Next when your phone heats up look at you services. Through the android menu settings>applications>servises currently running. Fc any bloat ware one at a time and notice when your phone cools down.
Once that (if) happens freeze the AP related. I know if I leave my camera or games running my phone gets warm. You should freeze all the boatware regardless its just garbage. Hope that helps.
"If Satan lived in heaven he'd be me... "
Mine gets really hot if I talk while charging it, it also gets hot sometimes if it's really hot outside and I stream movies etc...when I take out the battery the battery itself is not very hot, just warm, the phone is what gets really hot...Is that a hardware problem?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
If the above doesn't work, try liquid nitrogen. Or an ice-cold beer can applied to the back of the phone. Either one works wonders.
Also, air conditioning set to max.
I'm running stock unrooted. I have done hard reset but but it still cooks when hotspotting even when I turn it down to 2g speeds. I really don't know how to root I was hoping to avoid doing this as I am happy with the stock and I don't make wtfisgb threads in these forums.
please post or repost a link in this thread where I might find comprehensive instructions on how to safely and reversibly root my g2x. also please list any programs that facilitate the rooting and recovering or clouding of data as I do not wish to lose my program settings/preferences.
thanks in advance

Sounds like something is taxing the CPU. Perhaps you need a CPU monitor and figure out what is eating at it.
The only time my phone got warm was when I bootlooped and it froze. I flashed to a different rom and it was good. Even extensive 3D gaming doesn't cause the phone to get hot.
My battery hit 109 degrees F while just charging....not even doing anything to the phone....if I actually charge and do anything at the same time, it gets even hotter than that. I'm on stock ROM, rooted, and have frozen all bloatware already.

Got one coming soon. had some problems with repo and my build environment last night...everything is up and running now so I just need to cherry pick and build...stay tuned

ROM for best battery life

I just got the Samsung Galaxy s3 the other day and I am impressed. I was coming from an iPhone 4. Only thing I don't like is the battery life. So far I've flashed synergy 1.7, beans build 8, and Scotts cleanrom. Synergy seems to be the best on battery life, but I just want to know what others think. Also, I am running IMO lean kernel .01 on all of them at stock speeds. Not over clocked. Just wanting opinions.
Try synergy 1.3, best rom with excellent battery life

There really is no best rom, it's all about user preference and exactly what you do with your phone. Try them each out for a week to weigh the pros/cons (or in your case scope out the battery life), then go with the one that you like best.

I'm anal when it comes to being updated. My personal preference is staying on the latest. I just want decent battery life. I'm already on 91% and I took it off the charger an hour ago

Thanks for the info but I've done that. They all seem the same. I think my real concern is the kernel. I like Scotts cleanrom but I wanna know which kernel is recommended for battery and performance

All the ROMs do a pretty good job. If battery life is your #1 concern and nothing else matters:
1. keep screen brightness on minimum. Screen filter can reduce brightness even more.
2. If you use wifi, set it to sleep unless charging.
3. Don't use 4g. Use 3g only.
4. Disable syncing or data entirely and only manually sync when you need to. (Something like JuiceDefender can automate this)
5. Disable google backup.
6. Disable GPS and verizon/google location services.
7. Disable bluetooth.
8. Check and eliminate all wakelocks using betterbattery stats.
9. Turn off all haptic feedback.
10. Freeze all Samsung and Verizon related services using titanium Backup.
11. Maybe a mild underclock on your kernel.
At this point, you will get great battery on your dumbphone with a giant screen
Haha thanks man. Yeah I'm just stupud about battery. I pay attention to it too much. I'll do all that. Stupid giant screen indeed

1350 on this phone runs good with great battery life.

Sent from Galaxy S3 running CleanRom 1.0, Imo v.01
I was having horrific battery on 1.7 with IMO's 0.1 beta. I completely wiped and reinstalled 1.7 on stock kernel, let my battery completely die and charged it up last night. Today I am at 90% after 3.5 hours unplugged listening to pod casts the whole time and texting and reddit app. Yesterday I was at 78% doing much less and unplugged for less time. I think when updating to new ROMs its important to do a full wipe and make sure if you use TiBu don't restore any system data. I don't have anything frozen as well
I'm getting almost 24 hours with about 2 hours of screen time, so much better coming from a Galaxy Nexus

What are wakelocks and how would I go about doing that? Which services are safe to freeze?
hey guys i just got an s3 and im new to this ad understand there more roms. what is currently the rom with the best battery life? I use my phone quite heavily with power saver mode on and it still doesn't last me a whole day. im on stock and still have to root. cheers
most roms are same across the board.. I would recc. synergy as is w/ziggy kernel. turn off 4g/sync/gps when not using it. :good:
