ROM for best battery life - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I just got the Samsung Galaxy s3 the other day and I am impressed. I was coming from an iPhone 4. Only thing I don't like is the battery life. So far I've flashed synergy 1.7, beans build 8, and Scotts cleanrom. Synergy seems to be the best on battery life, but I just want to know what others think. Also, I am running IMO lean kernel .01 on all of them at stock speeds. Not over clocked. Just wanting opinions.

Try synergy 1.3, best rom with excellent battery life
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

There really is no best rom, it's all about user preference and exactly what you do with your phone. Try them each out for a week to weigh the pros/cons (or in your case scope out the battery life), then go with the one that you like best.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

I'm anal when it comes to being updated. My personal preference is staying on the latest. I just want decent battery life. I'm already on 91% and I took it off the charger an hour ago

Thanks for the info but I've done that. They all seem the same. I think my real concern is the kernel. I like Scotts cleanrom but I wanna know which kernel is recommended for battery and performance
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

All the ROMs do a pretty good job. If battery life is your #1 concern and nothing else matters:
1. keep screen brightness on minimum. Screen filter can reduce brightness even more.
2. If you use wifi, set it to sleep unless charging.
3. Don't use 4g. Use 3g only.
4. Disable syncing or data entirely and only manually sync when you need to. (Something like JuiceDefender can automate this)
5. Disable google backup.
6. Disable GPS and verizon/google location services.
7. Disable bluetooth.
8. Check and eliminate all wakelocks using betterbattery stats.
9. Turn off all haptic feedback.
10. Freeze all Samsung and Verizon related services using titanium Backup.
11. Maybe a mild underclock on your kernel.
At this point, you will get great battery on your dumbphone with a giant screen

Haha thanks man. Yeah I'm just stupud about battery. I pay attention to it too much. I'll do all that. Stupid giant screen indeed

1350 on this phone runs good with great battery life.

Sent from Galaxy S3 running CleanRom 1.0, Imo v.01

I was having horrific battery on 1.7 with IMO's 0.1 beta. I completely wiped and reinstalled 1.7 on stock kernel, let my battery completely die and charged it up last night. Today I am at 90% after 3.5 hours unplugged listening to pod casts the whole time and texting and reddit app. Yesterday I was at 78% doing much less and unplugged for less time. I think when updating to new ROMs its important to do a full wipe and make sure if you use TiBu don't restore any system data. I don't have anything frozen as well

I'm getting almost 24 hours with about 2 hours of screen time, so much better coming from a Galaxy Nexus

What are wakelocks and how would I go about doing that? Which services are safe to freeze?

hey guys i just got an s3 and im new to this ad understand there more roms. what is currently the rom with the best battery life? I use my phone quite heavily with power saver mode on and it still doesn't last me a whole day. im on stock and still have to root. cheers

most roms are same across the board.. I would recc. synergy as is w/ziggy kernel. turn off 4g/sync/gps when not using it. :good:

Best Battery Saver App Ever!!

Ok so i have tried many battery saver apps and have come to the conclusion that most of them are a joke. Until i tried BatteryXL. With a bit of setup this app has give me over 20 hours of life with use. I am talking about web surfing, texting, gaming, calls and some picture taking. I use my phone a lot and it just would not make it half the day. I even tried an extended battery. But even that sucked. Juice defender isn't bad if you buy the pro version, but BatteryXL is free. There have been a few glitches , as it is still in beta, but they are very minor and didn't effect its usage. So if anyone is looking for an app to help with battery life try it and see how it works for you. I am no way affiliated with the creators of this app. I am just a big fan of it and i know how many evo user complain about battery life. Also if you want to know i am using Sinister rom version 7 and anthrax kernel 009. The rom and kernel you use will affect how much this app helps.
Again i have no affiliation with the make of this app so don't ask me if you have issues. Submit then to the maker.
EDIT: If you don't have an intelligent thing to say, then do the world a favor and keep your mouth shut. The air is polluted enough as it is
Guys, please do not make me close this thread. Stay on its original purpose instead of attacking each other.
Consider this a warning. There is no point on either use so much exclamations marks, replying in such way to it and then attacking back in the same way.....
I am telling you the nicest way, stay on topic.
YOU ARE WARNED!
Thank you D.O.C. I just wanted to inform others about this app because i know battery issue is a big problem for most of us Evo users. And i am sorry for the off topic spat
BatteryXL has saved my battery.. i've been under 50% for over 4 hours already and still have 39%..
thanks for sharing...
Interesting
I switched over to an ICS rom and it still is getting me around 15 hrs or so. I love this app.
Been using it since the 28th and been able to go a full work day without a charge....on my normal high use day....thanks
I bought jd pro a while back but this one seems so much easier to set up. We shall see how it goes.

One thing I hate about this app is it shuts down my 3g when I programed it to shutdown everything else lol
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Yea I've tried using this app but it just doesn't work like juice defender... this app doesn't auto sync 3rd party email apps or twitcaster... juice defender makes it possible to sync specific apps during a specific time frame to resync information while the screen is off.. I haven't seen this app (battery XL) do that at all...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Yeah, I'm a bit leery of it myself, after reading all sorts of comments about people having issues getting various radios to come back on. Would like to see more feedback about it, though.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Only issue I have had is every now and then it won't turn my mobile data back on. I will take that since I can get almost 20 hours of use every day. I will post a screen shot of it later today to prove it.
Yeah, I enjoyed this app until I too had problems with it randomly turning off my data, other than that it is great at saving battery life.
Evo 4G
MIUI 2.Something.Something
Here is a screen shot of my battery status s of right now. 12 hours and still over 60%. Not as much use today but still, about 1 hour of web and games, and lots of texts.

What does this app do exactly..? In what ways does it save battery... does it lower cpu usage or does it disconnect wireless connections when not in use or what..?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Like most battery savers out there it controls connections and other features. But unlike most others this one actually does help get you more battery life. Before using this app i would only get about 12 hours total before I needed to charge. Now as you can see from above I get about double that.
@OP.
prior to using this app, were you one of those (like me) who always turn off unnecessary radios and services manually? Cuz I've always done that, and if this app makes an effect beyond that, I might be interested.
But I prefer to do it manually, myself (not to mention, due to OCD, I would always turn off radios manually). Are you not in that camp?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
No. I can't say I am. I never remember to turn them off so this app is great for me. It does have some other cool stuff. Check it out is all I can say. It is free. So if you don't like it you aren't out anything.
Simply put, the app sucks. Sucks bad. The concept is good, but the app, it sucks

New personal battery whore record

It's well known I like to be a battery whore, my previous record was a little over 48 hours on a full charge with my Infuse. Today I beat my old record by about....20 hrs!
All notifications off except Gmail. 3g data turned off for about 80% of the time. Wifi on but set to turn off when phone sleeps. I did use the phone, text, talk, surf, etc. Probably would be considered light usage though.

I never use notifications, never will. This is my normal usage pattern. As I said in the OP, I do use the phone.
Get rooted and remove blot wear
Best way in some sense to get great battery life is get rooted, use Excellent Roms that removes all bloatware and find any apps that are continually running in background and remove them. (Tip) Get titanium backup and backup your apps then remove them but if you need later then reinstall them for future use. Just a few things to mention, so much more to add to save battery. I suggest you just use your phone and try and save in other ways that will extend you daily use.
How much screen on time? That's generally the best measure of battery life, because if your screen isn't on, you're not really using your phone. And a percent usage tells nothing.
My infuse is currently going on 12 days, 14 hours, 16 minutes, 7 seconds since last unplugged with 1 hour 28 minutes of screen on time. That being said, it's because I use it purely as a backup alarm clock without a sim card now that I have my Note, haha. And no, I'm not going to go to the hassle of rooting, downloading a screenshot app, then waiting another 12-14 days to prove it. Just goes to show that battery life doesn't mean much without usage.

Horrible Battery even with Seidio Ext. Battery *ROOTED*

I know this is one of those things that everyone seems to complain about, but there is definitely something going on here. I have Seidios 3200 MAH extended battery for my ROOTED bolt, yet my friend running the same ROM as me is getting almost double the battery life with a stock battery. I know the first thing to check is if any apps are killing my battery, which I have checked through thoroughly with no luck. I have tried uninstalling these apps with no luck on better battery life. If it helps I'll post the apps I have
- Beautiful Widgets
- Brilliant Quotes Free
- Days left widget
- Draw Something Free
- Engadget
- Facebook
- iHeart Radio
- Instagram
- Twitter
- Yahoo Mail
- Ringdroid
- Root Explorer

This of course doesnt include the stock apps on the ROM.
Currently running the Plan 9 ROM, if anybody has any tips for getting the battery up to par I would be very grateful!
EDIT: Forgot to mention how long my battery is lasting me. I'm getting about 8 hours before she is sucked dry

Actually it's called "Plan .9" Its only been out for a few days and it's a very very minimal sense ROM. It's missing alot of the sense features as to make the battery better, some people are getting up to 3 days while on it. And the developer is very responsive so far with adding sense widgets and squashing bugs. here is the link...

Yea the Chinese are getting into making bogus crap and selling it in bulk to people on eBay and other places. My stepdad bought a bunch of bnib usb flash drives on eBay claiming to be 200gb and none of them worked. They were some of the best fakes I have ever seen. They were in packing identical to the actual product.

I bought my battery directly from Seidio, don't think its a Chinese scam. But Something is definitely eating my battery, although the battery usage is showing my display as the main culprit.

You're showing 5 hours and you are only at 56%. That would mean you have around 5 more hours. It looks like you made some serious phone calls which would eat up a lot of battery too. I don't know if you use auto brightness but it can help if you disable it and set it at the lowest possible setting you can stand. Another thing you might look into is the Facebook app. It was causing a wake lock on my phone so I removed it and that helped me a lot.

If its a sense rom, try imo 5.2 kernel for sense. Use setcpu for a screen off profile of 245/386. If its desensed alot, you can probably get away with underclocking it to 768. Brightness is huge batt hog, set as low as possible. I have as few things syncing as possible also. Interesting looking rom, i will try it out with my stock battery and let you know.

the best battery life ive ever gotten was from the full blown MR4 rom with the stock MR4 kernel and the MR4 radio
people say that the MR4 Kernel slows the bandwidth down somehow and maybe it does but its awesome on battery life
Thats the thing, I only spent about 15 minutes total throughout the day on the phone so it seems like its eating much more battery than usual. Maybe I'll try a new kernel and see how that pans out.

I'd try to turn off widgets, but also turn off all background running apps.
Seal is a good program to keep apps from turning on imo. I use it to limit usage - on most Roms I get almost 30 hrs of battery life. (Extended battery).
Good trick - overnight I use Airplane Mode and my battery drops at most 5% for 10 hrs.

Always on mobile data is a killer. Disable all push notifications. And the biggest one is set custom automatic brightness adjustment. I set mine manually most of the time because stock, particularly with sense, is way too high. Even in a pitch black room it won't dial the back light down to minimum.

From my experience, you could try the Virtuous rom with sense 3.5, it has pretty good battery life.
I've had my Inspire for a year and two months aprox., still with the stock battery. On GB the best battery life I had was on Virtuous Affinity 2.05, MIUI 2.4.20, and CM7.2 with LC's kernel. Also, IceColdSandwich 8.6.1 has given me a pretty good battery life. Yesterday I flashed JellyTime R12 and can't talk too much about this one. Always remember the basics, turn off stuff you are not using. And remember, every phone is different so the best way to know is to flash yourself and test for a few days.
This is the best I've gotten on aospx br7

I don't know if it's my usage or what..None of the ROM gave me battery life of more than a day.Right now due to lot of chatting,i hardly get a day backup.

Device:Inspire 4G

I am a moderate to heavy user and I work in a poor coverage area. All roms I have used, FroYo, GB, ICS, AOSP or Sense, get me to lunch. I plug in while on my break and that will get me home. I never go anywhere without car and wall chargers. Use it how you want. With the size of the battery and the size of the display, you won't get a lot of use between charging.
Not just a pretty Pickle.

Yeah I've been wondering about battery life after installing a custom rom. I had a nexus as well before an using roms just killed my battery. Only time I got decent battery life was on stock roms. I've been hesitant on flashing a custom rom for this reason.

This doesn't improve battery life, it only fixes how much cell standby is reported
Does my battery chart look normal or not?

In my opinion bars from right chart are not corresponding to % used on a left side.
For example Screen On reflects that it was On almost all the time but Screen % is only 27.
Plus not sure why do you have black gap in a middle of a graph.
I tried cleanRom and my battery life is normal again. The black gap is hotboot under the restart menu

I was getting awesome battery life with CleanROM, but for some reason I kept losing 3G. I reverted back to stock, unlocked my bootloader, and now I'm just waiting for something epic to flash.

Synergy 1.7 has been known to have battery issues. Its being looked into
Ok so yesterday I was getting great battery life flash new version of clean Rom this morning it's not as good and there where no performance tweaks to the new version. It seems that first battery cycle after flashing new Rom is always lower. Is that normal?
He're was last battery cycle

You are using the hell out of it and on 4G, that is normal.
I had wacky battery life on CM10 until I charged it, powered it off, and removed the battery for 10 secs, then inserted and booted up.
Something about calibration?

So I rooted and have synergy 1.7 flashed and I notice battery life is not even close to as good as stock. Watching the battery bar drop reminds me of my galaxy nexus. Is it the Rom or what?

I am on v1.7 and the thing that helped me get more battery life out of this version of the ROM was to turn off Google NOW. I did this by hitting the mic in the google search bar, go into Setting and turn off google now. Incidentally the voice search functionality still works; when I try something like "What year was Albert Einstein born?", the robotic voice gives me the right answer. lol. Right now I don't have a need for the cards.
I loved Synergy, but the battery ran out much quicker than I would want it to. CleanROM was the best ICS rom for me, battery wise. I'm currently on the official CM10 nightlies and I get decent battery out of it as well.
it's because of spywares exist in custom kernel wich run background all time and use data without permission
If you use your phone on nonstop it drains quickly. I would live to tweak my phone to try to get over 5 hours screen on time. 3.5 hours and higher is good from my experience.
Battery
Mine is about the same, Stock and Rooted. Running great though and more smoothly than Stock on Clean Rom 1.3

Dude go to some research. You have no idea what you are talking about. The Kernals are stripped down for performance and exclude the "spywares" go use your internets to research before you start making these claims.
