VMWare for Android - General Topics

LG have anounced they will be releasing a phone in the next few months with VMWare installed. This will allow you to run two separate virtual Android OS machines on the same device.

Why would anyone want to boot iOS
Now Android and Window7/8 on any Android phone would be sweet.

Not the first device that has been able to do it but its nice to see another company take it up.

this is awesome!
the more reason to love Android

^-^ Agreed, I use VMWare a lot on my PC and would love to see it working on my SGS2

This seems very nice.

Wish they bought it out for the Atrix in Lapdock mode - but then again, the memory usage will kill it. They really need more than 2GB in a phone these days!

I'll have to see it before I believe it. They also demo'd this tech on an N900 2 years ago and I haven't seen them release anything so far...

It's amazing to think virtualization was unheard of a few years ago, and now it is coming to our phones.

yes, nice to hear there is a project.

wow.... what a great news.

Wow, smartphones are moving so fast.

Can you put Android on Iphone

Didnt see anything in a search for this. Is there anyway to put Android on the iphone, anyone know a tutorial or anything?
Now that would be an improvement!!
Everything is possible if a talanted developer puts enough man hours into it. It won't run smoothly with all the missing drivers and such, but it is doable.
android on the Leo would be much cooler IMO!

Why does almost everybody want android on there phones..
Just buy a android device LOL
before android there were people who wanted iphone osx on their wm phone
and people who wanted wm os on their iphone too
The one constant is that some people are never happy no matter what they're offered, and get off on whining.

Um no its not...but thanks for your useless input
it's not possible.
the iphone os is protected by security certificates.
it was a lot of work developing the jailbreak, through an exploit in the os.
not to mention what work would be to port the complete Android OS.
but why would you do that anyway? Buy a device dedicated to what you need for optimum performance.

If you don't actually care about running WM and want an exclusively android device, rumor has it that HTC will be releasing a 1GHz Android device which may be similar to the Leo, so you might want to wait a while. Besides, Android would run much better on a device with a native Android bootloader and compatible hardware (meaning no tweaks to get it working).

I don't think anyone outside HTC knows the answer to that, only that it will probably be in a while. However, they (may) have a prototype, as shown here, which is a good sign developmentally.
I think Android on iPhone would be pretty sweet too. The iPhone is a nice piece of hardware, but I am a die-hard Android user.
I've done a lot of Google searching, and it seems like there is no news after they got the Linux kernel to run with openiBoot. The HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1) and the iPhone both use ARM11-family processors. I imagine that porting the Java VM over wouldn't be that hard for someone who knows what they're doing.
Kind of sad, really. I would proudly rock an Android iPhone.

Someone apparently ported the Windows Mobile Phone 7 to an HTC.... Hopefully coming to a "Dual-Booting Samsung Captivate" near you?!

If WP7 turns out to be a massive failure, or falls behind in the OS race, I bet we'll see it' Otherwise, I doubt it. Hacks will likely go to porting newer versions of WP7 instead. If they wanted android, they'd have bought it, since there are tons of high end android phones wherever they buy their wp7 devices.
I would LOVE to have Windows Phone 7 on this instead. It's basically Android, but with all of it's major problems address (and the introduction of some new ones, I'm sure). But the positives clearly outweigh the negatives... Google needs to take a lesson from Microsoft and make some big changes to Android. Namely, updates straight from them.
But it's not going to happen.
I think it can be done.

No, the focus is not. It's got the same internals basically as an older HTC like the Evo, not a hummbingbird.

no it only borrows the screen. it is spec'd as a snapdragon, not a hummingbird!
and why would anyone in there right mind want phone 7 if they can have android? why not just buy a focus with out dated hardware?
the hts phones running windows mobile are because the hd2 had a bootloader that could support multiple os's. i would like the bootloader ported so we can run multiple android roms like there are doing in the evo forum but id never install phone 7 or winmo 6.whatever from what im looking at the interface is so limited you might as well port iOS 2.2 because they are about the same.
Not going to happen. The hardware is too different, and unlike when you port Android to another piece of hardware, WP7 is not open source.
And yes, the Samsung Focus is NOT a Galaxy S in any way except for the Super AMOLED screen.

Some people prefer things that work. Some people prefer getting the latest firmware at all times. Not this "let's wait 7 god damn months after FroYo is released before you actually get it" crap. Some people want a UI that isn't ugly, lag filled, and unintuitive.
It's not perfect, but for a first release it's pretty damn good.

[Q] Is Win 7 on an android tablet completely unreasonable?

OK so here's the thing. One of these days I'm gonna have to replace my laptop... it's just dying on me.
I've always been a sceptic on the whole tablet form factor thing. Seems like it would be cool, but I can't figure where it would fit between my laptop and my EVO cause it couldn't replace either one.
Now to tell the truth, some of the new tablets just look amazing (was just looking at the ASUS Transformer Tablet/laptop).
The only thing is I could never get completely away from Windows for some things (eg. Adobe Creative Suite)
My question is, would it be impossible to ever see Windows 7 dual booting with Android on a tablet? (And yes I mean using a purchased license and everything, nothing pirated)
If so, I'd definitely make the switch over to a tablet. Until then, I just don't know...
hmm... bump?
Well....i wouldnt say it is COMPLETELY unreasonable, after all HD2 was able to completely rewrite its bootloader and the peeps here are trying the same with the EVO 4G
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001601
I honestly think it would come to phones first and there is also no talk of it as of yet.
its not unreasonable. but almost not worth the effort.
till Win7phone becomes more than a wannabe android bastardspawn, or the xZuneMobile.
i think if someone made VMware for Mobile. it would be much easier to change your OS, rather than recode, or edit til you get something functional.

As most tablets are ARM powered devices, Windows 7 will not work.
But if you want to hang around for Windows 8, you will probably have a lot more luck. Microsoft has said it wants to see Windows running on ARM powered tablets, and is spending a lot of effort to make it so.

Who said it was on top? You have reading comprehension issues. Jellybean already runs roughly enough on the Nexus S. There's no difference between a Linux distro and Android you know, except the later is greatly optimized to run on phones/tablets.
Besides, other than for Android, please point me to an example where Linux has even a remotely great market share with end users. Surprise, it doesn't! Even with Ubuntu being the latest fad for people wanting to pickup on Linux, it's still a tiny shard in the ocean of Windows and Mac OSX.
when it receives Android apps support, the first thing i would do is to get rid of Android and flash in Ubuntu. Until then, I would say android is my choice.

Who cares if it's still a tiny shard, people want option and it's nice that we have distro's like Ubuntu and FirefoxOS that you can install on Android smartphones. I think the majority of people willing to try this out want something different for a change.. Maybe people don't care about mainstream operating systems anymore, maybe they want something less-mainstream that stands out from the crowd.

[Q] Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition Firmware on Original Galaxy Note 10.1

Sorry if this question or something similar has already been asked, but I searched the 10.1 2014 boards, as well as these boards, and did not find the answer to my question.
Basically, I am curious to know if anyone knows if it is possible to install firmware designed for the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition on the original (2012). I am really starting to get tired waiting around for the 4.3 or 4.4 update (or even 4.2!), which at this point I really don't think is coming, and since the 2014 Edition ships with 4.3, I thought flashing 2014 Edition 4.3 firmware would potentially be a way to finally get 4.3 on my device!
If anyone knows if this is possible, please let me know! I don't want to risk just trying it out to see if it works for fear of bricking my device.
Thanks!
If only it were that easy...sorry....no it is not possible.

How do you put back some of the Samsung apps that have been left out by the OMNI Team?
That's why it is better to check differend roms and then decide if it is worth to try them. Omni was just an example and with many replies on that thread to realize that custom roms are not the same as an official and you may loose some Samsung features if those are important.

I hate my life and i wanna die , i aint got no update -_-
Unlike windows OS where same version can be installed on any PC which got min hardware requirements,Android is fragmented in such a way that its impossible to use a later version device OS on an old device even if its same brand.I believe soon these vendor specific alterations (such as Touchwiz) will be optional or removable. And then it may be possible to upgrade the core android alone like in nexus devices and vendors only need to update their styled UIs and applications in play store.

The first part of this i agree with .But my opinion is the Venders make such changes to the os Not just to brand it and make it there own. They do this in a way so that you Can not Continue to get OS updates for years down the road. Even months on some lower end devices. This is to make the Device no longer viable and force you into buying a new device. We live in A Corp. Created disposable Goods. If things last they make less money..
I Also believe many people are getting tired of this.It could be what brings windows tablets to a top running in the mobile market.

Well that's one of the many reasons why I'm really excited about Ubuntu Touch / Ubuntu Mobile / Ubuntu for Phones, or whatever the hell they are calling it these days (lol it seems like they change their mind on which of those 3 it actually is every other day). If everything goes well, we should see the first Ubuntu powered mobile devices later this year. Things were looking a little squirrely for a while, with Ubuntu unable to partner with any OEMs, but just a few days ago they released a statement that they have entered into production deals with the OEMs BQ (from Spain) and Meizu (from China). They also plan on selling Ubuntu powered devices world-wide via their website once they start production. These devices I think are really going to be the best combination between power and utility, combining the best of the full computer and mobile worlds. I just wish the Ubuntu Edge had succeeded! THAT woulda been the greatest mobile device ever! Just imagine the high end tablets running Ubuntu that phone would have inspired had it actually been made.

I'm sorry to tell you, but you are SORELY misinformed. The final release will be a full and complete version of Ubuntu. The ultimate plan is to have 1 operating system for all devices with a different user interface depending on the interface system available. When using as a phone or tablet, the mobile interface will be present, the tablet version being slightly different and optimized for larger screens. Now take an Ubuntu phone or tablet and plug it into a dock with screen and keyboard and the regular Unity Ubuntu desktop will appear. Read up on it on their website. The next LTS release of Ubuntu is supposed to do away with the separate Ubuntu Touch moniker completely. At that point, the exact same Ubuntu you install on your computer is the Ubuntu you install on your mobile device. This is the concept of convergence that is so central to the system they are developing.
