Didnt see anything in a search for this. Is there anyway to put Android on the iphone, anyone know a tutorial or anything?
Now that would be an improvement!!
Everything is possible if a talanted developer puts enough man hours into it. It won't run smoothly with all the missing drivers and such, but it is doable.
android on the Leo would be much cooler IMO!
... -sigh- ...
Why does almost everybody want android on there phones..
Just buy a android device LOL
before android there were people who wanted iphone osx on their wm phone
and people who wanted wm os on their iphone too
The one constant is that some people are never happy no matter what they're offered, and get off on whining.

Um no its not...but thanks for your useless input
it's not possible.
the iphone os is protected by security certificates.
it was a lot of work developing the jailbreak, through an exploit in the os.
not to mention what work would be to port the complete Android OS.
but why would you do that anyway? Buy a device dedicated to what you need for optimum performance.

If you don't actually care about running WM and want an exclusively android device, rumor has it that HTC will be releasing a 1GHz Android device which may be similar to the Leo, so you might want to wait a while. Besides, Android would run much better on a device with a native Android bootloader and compatible hardware (meaning no tweaks to get it working).

I don't think anyone outside HTC knows the answer to that, only that it will probably be in a while. However, they (may) have a prototype, as shown here, which is a good sign developmentally.
I think Android on iPhone would be pretty sweet too. The iPhone is a nice piece of hardware, but I am a die-hard Android user.
I've done a lot of Google searching, and it seems like there is no news after they got the Linux kernel to run with openiBoot. The HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1) and the iPhone both use ARM11-family processors. I imagine that porting the Java VM over wouldn't be that hard for someone who knows what they're doing.
Kind of sad, really. I would proudly rock an Android iPhone.

I would like to invite you guys with good Android knowledge to participate in the following thread and to supply specific detailed information on the full capability of Android phones.

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been answered before!
Does anyone know if its possible to install an Android rom on the HTC HD2? That phone with android would be amaazing.
Thanks!
Not without a whole lot of work.
It is definitely a waste of that hardware to put wincrap on it.
The one reason I would NOT contribute to running android on that device is that every one of those devices that HTC sells, some amount of your $$ gets sent to microshaft, so strictly from the perspective of "I absolutely will NEVER give ONE THIN DIME to those greedy evil bastards", I would ignore the hardware and not do anything that could potentially boost its sales.
Always possible with XDA Dev...see this active thread in the Leo section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578575
Thanks for the responses...
Yeah I would love to see Android 2.0 on a Snapdragon processor. I too have a distaste for contributing to MS by purchasing an HD2, but it would be worth it
I get the feeling the recently confirmed "Google Phone" will infact be a modification of the HD2. The thing is, it's so fricken perfect in terms of form factor, I hope they don't make it worse in an attempt to make it distinguishable different from the original
Fingers crossed. And thanks, Ill check out that link.

So do you own an HTC HD2 or not? If as you say you shouldn't have one, and how you would know if Android is not easy to install on HD2?
You can hate MS as we all do, but don't bad mouth a great piece of hardware, which maybe great if it runs Android.
wouldnt it easier to buy the nexus one ?
specs are close enough ....
maybe the release of this will make a port easier

I too, would like to see an android release on the HTC HD2... I really expected more from winmo 6.5
i hope there will be a port for winmo6.5 on hd2
We're all waiting for this mate.
Better be aware of who you support

You complain about MS but think that Google is better? Really! You might want to check into the politics and beliefs of the Google CEO Eric Schmidt. In one of his most recent interviews he stated that he saw nothing wrong with controlling the news available to users via it's home page and search engine. Funnier yet is that they complain about China's censorship, I guess he beliefs censorship is ok as long as he is the censor.
Anyway, didn't mean for this to become a rant, but Google is no better than MS when it comes to attempting to control a market. Windows & Palm were first on the scene with smart phones and both of their operating systems have grown tremendously. I would even say that Apples iPhone OS would not be as intuitive today if it were not for MS and Palm.
Do you really want to port your own version of Android to HD2? It will never be as smooth and fast compared to say just buying an HTC Supersonic.
Also, what do you do with it when everybody has moved to Android 3.0? You won't have any support for it. The ROM Cook may no longer be interested with porting Android 3.0 to what would have been an old outdated piece of hardware in a year's time.
You're better off just buying an HTC Supersonic. At least you could pray that HTC would give you future Android versions when they become available.
I've played with a Nexus one and a HD2. The hardware is not close in my opinion. The supersonic (Evo) looks great but it's cdma.

Really! I've gotten so tired of my Pro2 with WM 6.5, I would buy one in a heartbeat if it was GSM and supported my carrier's 3G. But of course, AT&T has to get the worst Android phones in history in its lineup while forgetting about HTC completely.
If the only thing to edit is the radio rom, shouldn't be such a big deal for all the developers here.

I hope you know why At&t doesn't want htc smartphones on their lineup? The reason is because they dont want any htc phones to destroy the iphone. Which is true...sales will drop if a htc 4"3 screen showed up. Not to mention apple is sueing htc.

Think the Droid Incredible ROM would work on a HD2?? I don't know if it being from Verizon would make a difference or not. BTW - Droid Incredible is the strangest name for a phone EVER!!
Anyone know anything about the Meego? Would you be able to flash the htc tp2 and put Meego on it?
Good question! I'd also like to know if there is possibility to port Meego to HTC WM and/or Android devices just by cooking a new ROM - or are there significant h/w issues? Also to know how difficult it is to modify apps to run on Meego that have been written for Android or WMx.
Don't we all wish?
Lol when I saw this thread my heart jumped out my chest. Then reality struck. And reality is, its not ever gonna happen. And if it does, it will be because someone used a lot of stuff from the Android port (Meego, and Android are both base on Linux Mobile Kernel). Anyhow even if you did get it to boot it would be plagued with issues and honestly not ever work the way we all want.
Hardware issues aren't really there, just no drivers available. Hell at this point I would be happy with a touch pro 3 with 1ghz omap/snapdragon and winmo/android either. But no luck for that, and we are even farther from seeing meego coming out of HTC. Here is to hoping the N9 is good and ever sees stateside.. Hope someone proves me wrong!

Oh as for programming... thats where Meego excels. Winmo already has support for Qt 4.6 and that is how I currently develop apps for winmo5.X+. Then when I change my device to meego (target device), recompile, and it is ready not a single line of code changed. But that is more the power of Qt than any significant advantage to winmo. Android support is coming so be ready for a wave of amazing Qt apps. Thank you Trolltech and Nokia. Long Live QT!
Dead thread/project/idea? I'd love to run Meego on Rhodium. There are some Linux games (Cave Story!) I'd like to carry on my phone but I don't want to install Rhobuntu. Meego'd let me run Linux apps and make calls without having to reboot.

Another Bump!
It hasn't even gotten a successful Official port yet, and you guys are asking for it to be on the Rhodium already? Geeze. The Leo hasn't even got a functional port yet, and they have more devs than we'll ever see here.
The moral of the story is be patient, or please help to contribute. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, it's just that Meego is loosing momentum in an official capacity now with only Intel working on it currently.
bump
Just keeping things alive if I can. I think this would be absolutely great. I will be patient....but man that would be cool. I still have a ways to go on my contract and I really don't feel like investing in another phone atm. I'd rather get a laptop...
I'm all for this as well. So BUMP
Frankly I love my TP2, hopefully HTC will put out a TP3, though it appears the HTC 7 Pro, is the Touch Pro 3.
I was wondering...is there custom roms for this phone? can you install a full functional version of android on it? and if you can do all this can you use a program like odin to flash back in case of mess ups?

we are talking about an HD7 here
So its pointless to buy a device with no custom rom support, ports and such and magically expect to be able to flash anything on it
he should have
1. done his research to see if it can be actually done first
2. bought an hd2 if he wanted to run an unofficial OS

But if you did want a 4" HTC phone the Desire HD is a better Android phone than an HD7 will ever be.

I'm due for an upgrade in July on my Sprint line, and I was almost certain I was going to go with the EVO 3D (when it comes out), but then I saw the HTC Arrive and kinda liked it. The thing is, though, that I really like Android as well. I know dual-booting Android was possible on the Touch Pro 2, so I was wondering if it's possible to do the same thing with the Arrive/7 Pro, or if having Windows Phone 7 prevents it from being able to do this. Thanks!
It cannot be done as of now.

The HTC 7 Pro has the same SoC as HD7 and HD2, and both of them already have Android.
Why Android still can't be ported for 7 Pro?
I'm pretty sure that hardspl must be available before we can flash custom roms on our pros. More imporantly some sort of application like haret for WM6 but for WP7 would probably also need to be developed first. Hopefully some fine day it will all be possible like on the HD2.
i was looking at how they dual boot with hd2, and it looks like they boot from sdcard, and flash wp7. we shouldn't need to flash wp7, but booting android is sdcard boot. so i see no reason why we can't boot from sdcard, unless we need a special boot loader, and the boot loader they need doesn't have the access to wp7 to get the boot loader working properly and that goes beyond me please correct me if I'm wrong.
why would anyone want to put an unsecure, laggy, fragmented, built from stolen code OS like Android on a fine device such as the arrive? wp7 is leaps and bounds superior to Android and once mango arrives it will be even better. thus the need to do this isn't necessary.

iOS is just as fragmented as Android. Only thing is that Apple controls the fragmentation so dumbass developers dont try making completely universal apps when they dont know how the hell to do that.
And fragmentation isnt an issue for consumers. Its perfectly fine. So i dont understand your bias against it unless you are a developer.

I really don't care whether you or anyone says android is worse or better than wp7 but it would be nice to switch if one wants to. so when there is a thread discussing the possibility to port android on the 7 pro, there is no need for no-sayers, since they can occupy their brains with other stuff.
i would love to see this, but especially since there is only 1 sd-card, its either flashing one or the other i think...

Hello all,
I am new to mobile phones and I would like to post some questions, which are general in fact, but closely related to the topic and the Arrive device.
I would like to have another OS on it and I have found a way to change the SD cart it is running with, so I should be able to change or modify it with no trouble.
I imagine that I could find another HTC device with identical hardware and deploy it's ROM to this one in a manner similar to HD2's approach. I am so new that I already can feel how dumn is that ... but still.
I need to clarify some basics in order to know what to look for. First of all what does the firmware does and how it is related to the OS. Can I imagine it is something like BIOS, which controls the main hardware like processor, ram, telephony, etc? If so what stops me of formatting the SD and booting another system from it on the same hardware.
Another thing is what the ROM contains and how it is related to the OS. I am with the impression that it has everything in it -- OS distributive, firmware backup and bootloader maybe. If that is correct am I free to cook a ROM that contains the same firmware (as I imagine it like a BIOS alternative), the bootloader of another system and its distributive? Of course the ROM that is already on the device may and most probably will try to stop me, so I will need to somehow format it.
I do not express myself too good due to lack of expertise, but I know computers and I believe you will know what to tell me to straighten my thoughts.
Thank you in advance for any information you provide.
Sincere,
drel
At this stage, pesonally, I think wp7 is the best os to me. At it is not laggy as android does and looks more beautiful than iOS...

hello?
Any news about dual booting android on arrive / HD7 Pro? I read the thread and some users just talk crap. " Why this? Why that?" Why not, may I ask. I Love WP7, i really think that beats the crap out of everything else. But why can't we dream of having android too? As far as I know, Android has at the moment much more apps ( free and payed ones ) available than WP7. My brother-in-law has veetle ( just an example ) on his Xperia S, and he can watch live football/soccer which I can't cuz there is no veetle available. And who can name veetle, can name many others too. The point is: Combining the best of two worlds would makes fully profit from our beloved phones, which we payed ( at least I did ). I really hope that some news about this stuff.

So that makes webOS another free mobile phone OS for companies to choose, and puts it in much more direct competition with Android (or might in time). I won't be surprised to see a lot of webOS phones in a few months.
