[Q] OK i just got a HD7.... - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering...is there custom roms for this phone? can you install a full functional version of android on it? and if you can do all this can you use a program like odin to flash back in case of mess ups?

Why buy a HD7 if you want to flash android onto it? seems totally pointless...

Why buy an hd2 and run android on it? Because some prefer to run android on their touchscreen device.... thats the thing xda provides, options, customization, and and extended free will with our devices, I could run wp7, windows 6.5, android with or without htc sense, froyo, gingerbread, you name it on my device because of xda. So why? Because it is possible and some prefer to

Well said.
The HD7, because of being so similar to an HD2 hardware wise, would make an excellent Android phone because of the cap. buttons.

we are talking about an HD7 here
So its pointless to buy a device with no custom rom support, ports and such and magically expect to be able to flash anything on it
he should have
1. done his research to see if it can be actually done first
2. bought an hd2 if he wanted to run an unofficial OS

you get an HTC HD7 and you want android? You get a wp7 and want a custom rom? No custom roms and thankfully no android

All the OP did was ask a question. Why the crucifixion?
If the thread went like this: "Bought an HD7... WP7 is smellier than monkey butt... where can I get an Android Phone Rom for it" then throw those stones.
But if you did want a 4" HTC phone the Desire HD is a better Android phone than an HD7 will ever be.
I recall your sig used to be HD7 - future Android phone, not true Marty?

My sig used to be a lot of things. No longer being in my sig doesn't mean forgotten As for Android on it, I no longer use Android on my HD2 either. I doubt I would bother with Android on the HD7. But I might. Who knows.
I'm finding new-found love for WinMo (HTC Sense version) on my HD2. Will be getting the Android version of an iPhone, the Nexus S, soon enough to sate my love for Android and Android apps.

Can you put Android on Iphone

Didnt see anything in a search for this. Is there anyway to put Android on the iphone, anyone know a tutorial or anything?
Now that would be an improvement!!
Everything is possible if a talanted developer puts enough man hours into it. It won't run smoothly with all the missing drivers and such, but it is doable.
android on the Leo would be much cooler IMO!
... -sigh- ...
Why does almost everybody want android on there phones..
Just buy a android device LOL
before android there were people who wanted iphone osx on their wm phone
and people who wanted wm os on their iphone too
The one constant is that some people are never happy no matter what they're offered, and get off on whining.

Um no its not...but thanks for your useless input
it's not possible.
the iphone os is protected by security certificates.
it was a lot of work developing the jailbreak, through an exploit in the os.
not to mention what work would be to port the complete Android OS.
but why would you do that anyway? Buy a device dedicated to what you need for optimum performance.

If you don't actually care about running WM and want an exclusively android device, rumor has it that HTC will be releasing a 1GHz Android device which may be similar to the Leo, so you might want to wait a while. Besides, Android would run much better on a device with a native Android bootloader and compatible hardware (meaning no tweaks to get it working).

I don't think anyone outside HTC knows the answer to that, only that it will probably be in a while. However, they (may) have a prototype, as shown here, which is a good sign developmentally.
I think Android on iPhone would be pretty sweet too. The iPhone is a nice piece of hardware, but I am a die-hard Android user.
I've done a lot of Google searching, and it seems like there is no news after they got the Linux kernel to run with openiBoot. The HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1) and the iPhone both use ARM11-family processors. I imagine that porting the Java VM over wouldn't be that hard for someone who knows what they're doing.
Kind of sad, really. I would proudly rock an Android iPhone.

If you want Windows Mobile with a 4.3" screen get the HTC HD2 or the HD7.
Why not?
As far as i know none of those phones support AT&T 3G or even less 4G. Would be pretty awesome.
I have an HD2 that can run 6.5, 7, or Android it is a Telstra version so it gets ATT 3g in many areas just Google ATT 3g 850 map and see if you're in their area. If you're interested I'm selling it.

i'm rather curious about the possibilities as well coz the phone is sweet on it's own (despite the fact it has to run Android out of the box) and the 3G/4G incentive would be a fantastic Windows-based alternative for this configuration/design... just sayin' ('',)
While I can respect the desire to try something completely silly like this just to see if it can be done, you should expect that you may, and very probably will, brick your phone. Unlike Android, the code for Windows is not just out there. Putting Windows on a device it isn't certified for will likely fail because you won't have a proper set of drivers for the device. But I have tried silly things like this in the past with Linux putting it on devices it wasn't intended for with some success and the fun is sometimes all that matters.
I can't think of a single compelling reason I would want windows mobile on any phone I ever get unless they suddenly come up with a good blend of business and enthusiast features with WM7 doesn't seem to offer, but to each their own.
If you're interested, this might be fun. Not a rom, and not the same. But interesting.
Hmph. It's called Launcher7. I'd link you to it, but the forums don't want me to. It's in the Market.
I am interested... how much is your telstra phone?
Why is this silly? It's all part of the hacking/modding experience.

I installed Launcher 7 on my Inspire. It's surprisingly pretty decent. It's free, so there's no risk involved.
if the iPhone can run iOS and android with a loader on boot, why would it be so hard to make it for an inspire? way more open then ios development.
I want this too as did a bunch of nexus one users, there's already a thread about it over there. But the answer is no, it isn't gonna happen as there are no drivers, windows phone is closed and can't get ported.

[Q] Att desire windows mobile 7 dual boot?

I am a new poster to this site. I have been looking all around the posts and cant find my answer. I just bought a new ATT HTC Desire and it is stock with Android 2.2
I am wanting to know if it is possiable to dual boot with the new Windows Mobile 7?
I have a HTC HD2 that i dual boot (windowmobile 6.5/android 2.2) and was wondering if the same cound be done to the Desire. Any help of links would be beyond appriciated.
Not going to happen. Not explaining why. Buy an hd7
Lol. No explination huh?
The HD7 is on Tmobile and I am on ATT. Even unlocked I believe i will have the same data connections issues that i do with the HD2, i.e. getting ATT 3/4G on a Tmobile phone.
Any thoughts?

Windows Phone 7 is a different animal than Windows Mobile 6.5. The boot loader for Windows Mobile 6.5 was easy to hack and thus the reason that they were able to come up with a dual boot feature on the HD2.
Even if a dev took the time to hack the Inspire's boot loader, chances of getting a Windows Phone 7 ROM image to load on it would probably be slim to none.
I would be happy with WM 6.5

I think the chances are pretty slim because the current Android bootloader that HTC is using on its current line has not been hackable at this point, so the chances of someone being able to hack it into a dual boot mode are very remote.
What I meant to convey in my previous post is that on the HD2, since it had a WM 6.5 boot loader, that was an easy hack to make it dual-bootable and have it load a bootable Android ROM on it. What you want a dev to do is the reverse: Take an HTC Android bootloader and hack it so that it can dual boot and load a Windows ROM.
If you want a phone on AT&T that does 3G, then you need to choose either an Android phone or a Windows 7 phone or Windows Mobile 6.5 phone. Trying to get a hacked hybrid to run both is probably not going to happen...
I see your point and thank you for the insight. If a developer was willing to do this at some point I would donate generously. As for King Shady, I have a HD2 with dual boot and it is the most amazing device minus the lack of 3/4g connectivity on At&t. Having both worlds is the best way to go. I am not a fan of Wm7. 6.5 works just fine. I just want both. Lol, is that too much to ask? Maybe at some point a developer will get around to it.
Lol, I would also like to mention to all the negative people out there, please look at how many views this post has had. obviously some people do feel the way I do about having both operating systems.

Thats a HD2 not an android phone! For starters the nand chip on an android phone uses a incompatible file system to a windows based operating system, it also has a totally diffrent bootloader structure, it would be lyk trying to use DOS to boot ubuntu. Even if someone wrote a whole new bootloader and developed a tool to format the nand to a fat file system, the radio isnt compatible with wp anyway!

I'm not sure, i know fat (32) atleast has a 4gb limit on transfering individual files so maybe MS has switched to NTFS for WP7.

Doing anything of the such would be illegal. Porting, say, Touchwiz to this phone, I know terrible choice, would be legal because Android is open source. When you are dealing with closed source material you have to be super careful in what you port, and this is one of those things that, even if possible, no dev is going to risk going to jail to do.

Thats not true, its only techically warez if the company developing the software, would of gained revinue from the sale of the software. So for example porting wp7 is warez, but porting HTC Sence isnt. As there revinue is generated by selling the hardware not the software

Android on the Arrive/7 Pro

Searched, and haven't found a thread on this.
I'm due for an upgrade in July on my Sprint line, and I was almost certain I was going to go with the EVO 3D (when it comes out), but then I saw the HTC Arrive and kinda liked it. The thing is, though, that I really like Android as well. I know dual-booting Android was possible on the Touch Pro 2, so I was wondering if it's possible to do the same thing with the Arrive/7 Pro, or if having Windows Phone 7 prevents it from being able to do this. Thanks!
It cannot be done as of now.

The HTC 7 Pro has the same SoC as HD7 and HD2, and both of them already have Android.
Why Android still can't be ported for 7 Pro?
I'm pretty sure that hardspl must be available before we can flash custom roms on our pros. More imporantly some sort of application like haret for WM6 but for WP7 would probably also need to be developed first. Hopefully some fine day it will all be possible like on the HD2.
i was looking at how they dual boot with hd2, and it looks like they boot from sdcard, and flash wp7. we shouldn't need to flash wp7, but booting android is sdcard boot. so i see no reason why we can't boot from sdcard, unless we need a special boot loader, and the boot loader they need doesn't have the access to wp7 to get the boot loader working properly and that goes beyond me please correct me if I'm wrong.
why would anyone want to put an unsecure, laggy, fragmented, built from stolen code OS like Android on a fine device such as the arrive? wp7 is leaps and bounds superior to Android and once mango arrives it will be even better. thus the need to do this isn't necessary.

iOS is just as fragmented as Android. Only thing is that Apple controls the fragmentation so dumbass developers dont try making completely universal apps when they dont know how the hell to do that.
And fragmentation isnt an issue for consumers. Its perfectly fine. So i dont understand your bias against it unless you are a developer.

I really don't care whether you or anyone says android is worse or better than wp7 but it would be nice to switch if one wants to. so when there is a thread discussing the possibility to port android on the 7 pro, there is no need for no-sayers, since they can occupy their brains with other stuff.
i would love to see this, but especially since there is only 1 sd-card, its either flashing one or the other i think...

Hello all,
I am new to mobile phones and I would like to post some questions, which are general in fact, but closely related to the topic and the Arrive device.
I would like to have another OS on it and I have found a way to change the SD cart it is running with, so I should be able to change or modify it with no trouble.
I imagine that I could find another HTC device with identical hardware and deploy it's ROM to this one in a manner similar to HD2's approach. I am so new that I already can feel how dumn is that ... but still.
I need to clarify some basics in order to know what to look for. First of all what does the firmware does and how it is related to the OS. Can I imagine it is something like BIOS, which controls the main hardware like processor, ram, telephony, etc? If so what stops me of formatting the SD and booting another system from it on the same hardware.
Another thing is what the ROM contains and how it is related to the OS. I am with the impression that it has everything in it -- OS distributive, firmware backup and bootloader maybe. If that is correct am I free to cook a ROM that contains the same firmware (as I imagine it like a BIOS alternative), the bootloader of another system and its distributive? Of course the ROM that is already on the device may and most probably will try to stop me, so I will need to somehow format it.
I do not express myself too good due to lack of expertise, but I know computers and I believe you will know what to tell me to straighten my thoughts.
Thank you in advance for any information you provide.
Sincere,
drel

hello?
Any news about dual booting android on arrive / HD7 Pro? I read the thread and some users just talk crap. " Why this? Why that?" Why not, may I ask. I Love WP7, i really think that beats the crap out of everything else. But why can't we dream of having android too? As far as I know, Android has at the moment much more apps ( free and payed ones ) available than WP7. My brother-in-law has veetle ( just an example ) on his Xperia S, and he can watch live football/soccer which I can't cuz there is no veetle available. And who can name veetle, can name many others too. The point is: Combining the best of two worlds would makes fully profit from our beloved phones, which we payed ( at least I did ). I really hope that some news about this stuff.

The straight answer to your question is you can't do it.
Answer: no
Take your Windows Phone 7, put it up for sale...
Get a Android phone and go to the Android fourms.
If there was a way to dual boot with Android, I'm sure by a simple search you would find it. Assuming that you didn't do that (there was a post about this subject just yesterday)
That sucks. Why is it the hd2 can, yet wp7 cant? I understand there on different operating systems, but developers cant make a duel booting device like the hd2?
Wasnt the hd7 tinkered with to run android awhile back?

The HD2 was a winmo 6.5 device, the hacking community already had years of experience with that OS. WP7 isn't a year old yet, that's pretty easy to understand.
Like DavidinCT says, sell your phone, buy Android and use their forums.

The HD2 was based on a completely different Windows Mobile 6.5. WP7 is still yet to receive a HSPL bootloader that allow custom roms to be installed or a MAGLDR-like system for dualboot, while HSPL for Windows Mobile was achieved long ago. The HD7 android is still in a pre-alpha stage and the average modder on XDA would probably brick his device trying to flash it. Seriously, if a dual boot was released, it would be all over these forums. I know it may be hard, but next time, scroll up, find the white textbox with a large yellow magnifying glass, type in Android on WP7, and watch the magic happen.
Back then, when hd2 just came out...there werent really that much smartphones with 4.3in screens and 1ghz android phones...so there was a lot of interest on developing android for the hd2...but you got plenty of android phone now with that kind of hardware and better...like everyone else said...sell the winmo phone and buy an android phone...
