Its not rid at all compare it to the size of any modern shooter on windows and its a fraction of the size. Those fancy textures take A LOT of space.
Of course its going cheap, gameloft will be making plenty of cash selling on your phone number and email address as well as what type of phone you are using and who knows what else. Anyone read the permissions this game requires? It should be called modern espionage!
I don't really like to controls, with the display divided into two parts it doesn't really work for me. But in general it's a nice game.

read it. didn't see anything to set off the alarm.
lot of that is to prevent piracy, checking licence and such.
anyway, only thing I don't like about the game right now is the long loading time... good grief. I don't remember the loading time being this long on MC2.
"read phone state and identity".... This means the ability to collect your number and use it however they want. None of this prevents piracy... Trust me!

part of that is so if you get a phone call in the middle of your game, you receive it...
other part is to check licence.
doesn't mean they are collecting to sell.
Oh ok, but i wouldn't be happy giving out my IMEI or IMSI number to anyone. I am just very wary of a developer who, after making a game on par with something available for, say, the PSP, be "giving it away" for 99 cents?

if you notice, most of the games, if not all, have that permission. big chunk of regular apps too.
it's not just Gameloft.
99cents sale was just that, a special New Years sale. notice they only did it for one day for MC3 since it's a brand new game.
I wouldn't read into it too much.
Only see 2 for 99 cents, 3 is still 6.99
Genius... It takes another 15 minutes to download additional data, even on wifi, so there is no way to get a refund.
it was at .99$ for only 24h, now I guess it's back at its original price

This may be no big deal to those that have had a smartphone for years, but the g2x is my first smartphone.. I'm just geeked by what happened today and wanted to shared..
My cable modem was dying so I had to go get a new one.. I really dislike buying things at local stores because of getting around 25%-50% savings on newegg, ebay, etc. But, the modem was about dead and I couldn't wait..
At any rate, I go to BestBuy and find one.. I'm standing in line for a register and I was like "hey, i got this new shop savvy app (barcode scanner). Lemme check it out".. to see how much I was getting boned for. As I start looking at the discounted prices online for 25%-35%, the next register opens. I walk up and say, "Boy, do you have any discounts/rebates for this modem? You guys are way overpriced." She looks at my phone, "Well, we price match for local retailers." I hit the back button, hit local retailers.. and find it at walmart for 25% less. We look at their website together on my phone, and she price matches it.
Is that cool or what? <3 this phone.

All set on the rooting and CWM via Nvflash.. Any suggestions on messing around with it tonight for some fun? Or any apps?
I'm currently messing with the Wifi Analysis app.. After I put my new modem/router in.. I still wasn't getting a decent signal. It showed me which channel was giving out the best signal.. Now instead of bouncing between 1-2, sometimes 3 bars. it's holding steady at 3, sometimes 4.

well.. i have 2 cool apps I use that need a rooted phone. Maybe 3-4.. but these 2 stand out.. Titanium Backup (freeze, defrost, backup, and reinstall apps). And Seek Droid.. allows you to find your Droid if you lose it, but the best part.. you can wipe the phone, TURN ON GPS remotely, and a bunch of other things. Best .99 I spent.
EDIT: Plus, there are some cool things guys are doing.. Like creating ROMs and such. For instance, CM7 is getting hammered on w/ the 2.3.4 OS.. which means, hopefully..and eventually.. Google talk's video will be working on the front facing camera. Some flashes are tweaks to make the phone run faster.. And eventually, it may even dispense cash.

I have Seek Droid too without a rooted phone. Whats the advantage of running CM7 as opposed to just keeping the stock once the 2.3 is released?

The ability to run undervolted kernels which will save tons of battery life. Add-ons, special features and stuff you can't do on the stock rom, up to date support, increased performance. The list goes on. Oh yea and the risk of becoming a crack flasher.

oh, sorry.. thought it needed a root on that one.
From what I have read, it seems the stock GB will be 2.3.3 not 2.3.4. Also, it seems that cm7 is suppose to be the roms of all roms. Idk.. the way people talk about it, it's supposed to help the phone run smoother, probably better battery life... and I would guess it's less intrusive.
But ya know.. I installed one of the nightlies.. and I uninstalled it. It's not ready.. Once they have a stable release out, I'll give it another shot. But it made my phone bogg down and it used much more memory to operate. So idk... I'll check it out but I may stick with stock myself. Really, its just a geek thing to do and have fun with..
Rooting is easy and it's also very easy to undo.. If it's just for the titanium backup app so you can freeze that stuff like apppack, car home, and all kinds of other things... it's worth it imho.
OP you got lucky the person was unaware that Walmart online is a whole different animal than Walmart local. The retail stores are not affiliated with the online site for pricing or inventory. Many times they will be close but the local stores can't honor the online Walmart prices. I think its crap, and many local places around here know that and wont price match Walmart.com pricing.

It was in stock at 2 of the local stores. If it's available in-store from their site, then you get it at that price.

Has someone at your local Walmart store actually told you that? I have yet to find a store to honor the price regardless of stock. They all say the same thing. You can buy it online though and have it shipped to the store for free, but no manager will give you what's on their shelf for the Walmart.com price.
This is why the other big box stores around here wont price match Walmart.com prices.
But I digress...glad you got a deal.

Yeah, you are in for a whole new world, even before you root it. You've got google goggles [that just got revamped w/an update] that does countless of awesome things w/just a pic, from solving Sudoku puzzles to price checking etc! Then there is Key Ring [which I use religiously now] that, scans the barcode on your different 'rewards' cards [Best Buy, Gamestop, Footlocker, etc] will recognize it and store it. When you go to check out, instead of fumbling through your wallet or keyring, pull up the app, hit the matching icon and they can scan it off your phone. I even used it at a job I worked at, where every morning I had to scan my badge and my vehicle codes to get my handheld started up. While everyone else had to go to there vehicles after waiting for their paperwork, scan the code and wait as it went through it's final boot up, I scanned from my phone while I waited for my paperwork and was out the door. That was on my N1.
Start exploring, but I warn you, it gets addicting, ESPECIALLY once you've rooted and seen all the freedom and advantages you have w/an open source OS as opposed to the likes of iOS. I'm getting giddy just thinking about it. Excuse me for a moment...

There is a difference between asking walmart (or any other big box store) to match walmart's online price versus an item that is in-stock at the store whereas a person can make the purchase online and head over to the store and pick it up.
I see what you're saying if it's just an online-store thing and the item isn't available in stock.. But when an item is in-stock at the store and you make the online purchase, you go to the store to pick it up for that price. It's just a pick-up for an already purchased item.
If I were in a store showing them their online price for an item in stock, and they wouldn't match it. I would make the purchase, then show them the receipt and instructions to go to the store and pick it up. The person would then hand it to me and I'd walk out.
I have called them immediately after an online purchase and asked how soon they could have it ready for pick-up. The last time, the representative said they'll go to the shelf right now and grab the item for me.. I waited on the phone to make sure they had it in-stock. I then went to the store with my online receipt... showed it to them, they gave me my item, and I walked out..

Could someone make a free alternative to WidgetLocker? Preferably for the Evo.
I'm kinda surprised there isn't a good one out there. Just wondering if anyone had the know-how and time to make one.
dude, you seriously can't afford two dollars to support the creator? I mean it takes these guys a decent amount of time to create these apps, and they put effort into responding to forum feedback...c'mon, skip your morning coffee and say 'thank you'.
Yeah, it's a few bucks. WidgetLocker is top notch, especially with all of the awesome themes out there. If you don't have a credit card, you can use a Visa gift card with the Market/Google Checkout. When you get the card, read the info and find the website used to register the card. When you register the card, make sure you put the correct information as it will need to match your shipping info linked to Google. Then go to buy the app, put the card info and shipping info in the form, and voila! You can now support developers!
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Yeah, its a wonderful app. So 2 dollar is reasonable and worth it
I agree. Developing an app takes time and dedication. I say, 2 dollars for an app that good is a very great.deal.
You can opt for simple lock screen. It's.in the market.

I go to that flexion link/site to download ea games for my xperia play. They download fine, they install fine, they let me play the trial period fine. But then when I go to purchase a game (I've tried this with battlefield and nba jam) I select credit card, I automatically get a small error window that pops up.
Is this because I'm on the lovely verizon version of play?
Do I have to wait for NBA Jam to be on their sh*tty v z app store? (If it ever makes it there)
If I root my phone would this allow me to make this purchases? Or is it because the flexion store is from the UK and they wont allow the conversion rate for my dirty American dollars? (Cant say I blame them)
Just need some help, I'm new here and a new owner of the phone, I've had it roughly 3 weeks now, so I apologize if this is one of those eye rolling noob questions, but I gotta ask in order to learn!
Thanks guys
141 views and no one can help? =(
Hows this for an easier question, has anyone from the U.S been able to purchase anything from the flexion/v.i.p site with a credit card? Im just wondering if there's an issue with my phone or if it's a verizon restriction or ea restriction, etc
Sorry man never bought from them. For a while they gave away FIFA, the Two NFS games, Battlefield 2, and Dead Space for free. I wouldn't buy from the flexion site because my cc company would nail me for foreign transaction fees. Also I would NEVER buy from the Vcast store, I did once, all the games verify themselves over the internet when you play, means no data connection, no game. I called up and complained and they refunded me.
Nuts, I really want this game
v z apps is a rip-off, not only do you need a data connection, the prices are always higher than android market or the publishers site. I REALLY wish I had read up on how censored this verizon version is before I bit the bullet.
I need to find a good stable hacked os, rooted os, whatever they call it and see if that gives me more freedom. Im really disappointed with this phone, soley because of verizon.

So I signed up for Google Opinion Rewards, the day the app dropped. I received the initial non paid survey which was strictly political. I answered it with my views and beliefs, and I haven't received a survey since. On the other hand, I have a friend, who has the exact opposite political views as me. He signed up just a few days after me, and has received a survey almost on a daily basis. Am I the only person not receiving the surveys? Just wondering if anyone else has not received any! Could my answers have been too opinionated, or didn't meet some agenda? Maybe it's just the conspiracy theorist in me!
Yeah, I also haven't had any.
Kind of quiet lately...
I did the initial survey, and 2 or 3 since then, but I haven't seen anything come up in a while. I never saw them on an almost-daily basis though; maybe 1 a week. Being a somewhat new service/app, they might just need some time to drum up more clients to do surveys for.
I know it's a new service, but I went through the initial survey with my wife and answered on the other end of the political spectrum yesterday morning. And she's already received 2 surveys in less than 2 days. There definitely something to it! It's been well over a month and I haven't gotten anything! Wish I had known, I would have lied on the first survey! Lol

Yeah -- I've had it for about two months now and only received about 3-4 surveys. Pretty slim pickings -- don't think any of us are going to get rich with Google Rewards any time soon!
I'm pretty hesitant to all those surveys.
So I got my first survey today!! Earned a dollar!

Weird. I've had maybe half a dozen or so. Of course it hasn't amounted to more than $2 or $3, but still for a free app here and there I'll do it.
I've only ever received one or two this year. As others have said, you can't exactly expect to make much off this
Works for Me
I have made about 15-20 bucks since I signed up. I usually get 2-3 surveys each week. Two surveys last week and one so far this week.
still waiting
same here still waiting... pretty sure the pin point test group as they want ....
I got a survey right away and used to get 2-3 surveys a week, think I've made around $7 total. I've only received 1 survey the past 3 weeks. It was pretty sweet for awhile! Sounds like I'm one of the luckier ones!
I've tried several times but there was always a problem submitting my answers so I have $0 despite wasting time on this crap.

Remember that Google knows a lot about you.
You are a member of a particular demographic, with a particular consumer profile and a particular set of socio-political views. Google probably knows where you fit in these spectra better than you do.
Companies are paying Google to run these surveys for them, because Google has such good demographic data. They pick the groups of people for each survey based upon the demographic details the company paying for the survey.
So ... depending upon your particular profile, you can expect more or less surveys.
Personally, I am a 40-something, tech-savvy family man with liberal socio-political views and an "above average" income bracket. I got a bunch of surveys up-front (made five or six bucks I guess) and then they've thinned out quite a bit since then. I occasionally get "one and done" surveys that pay $0.25 ... I guess I should've chosen the other answer on those!
I also wonder if some battery apps might hamper its functionality. I run greenify and battery guru. Lately I noticed I often get a survey offer within a few hours of activating the app ... wonder if one Battery Guru might be preventing it from checking in occasionally...

I guess that makes sense. I got to $10 in credits pretty quick, enough to get the Groundspeak app (I sure as hell was not going to actually BUY it), then about $4 in credits until I have not gotten any in about a month or so.
I fit your profile for the most part, although I am pretty conservative and a bit of a cheapskate, although I do not use any battery apps.
The frequency of surveys has some dependency on your device. I have nexus and galaxy devices. Both have the same Google account but the nexus gets more surveys
I have hardly made 3 bucks in about 3 months, yet my mother has only been part of it for a little over a month and has already accumulated about 10 bucks. She brags almost daily about getting another ten to fifty cents. I have a feeling it has to do with her gender and possibly age.
Edit: looking at the reviews on play store, I've noticed more men with low ratings complaining about not getting surveys, while more of the higher ratings are women getting at least one a day.

Or maybe they aren't doing that since they are giving away those VRs.

Or maybe they aren't doing that since they are giving away those VRs.

Well with T-Mobile they are giving the VR and 6 games for it and also a year of Netflix.
Verizon I hear is giving a choice between a VR and a Gear S2.
I'm not sure about the rest though but as you can see it may be slightly different depending on where you get the phone.
