[q] big help needed! - HTC Sensation

Hey everyone,so i will buy HTC Sensation tommorow and i allready want to install custom rom into it. Im pretty newbie at android as this will be my first android. So i wanted to ask? How do i install apps to android? I want to install apps, games freely. DO i need to s-off etc stuff..?
Also i want to install Android rEVOLUTIONARY hd rom,as i think it is the best, but it has different versions.. Wich one would you suggest to install? wich one is the best? Also it says that it is recommended to use Different Radio,as i downloaded the guide it says i need to eng s-off ,but i don`t know what`s the difference between normal s-off and eng s-off... Im from europe, lithuania, maybe i don`t even need to install different radio? Please help me,your help will be really appreciated,if you can, just drop the links to my asked questions,THANKS.

Sveikas
Good to hear some fellow Lithuanians are more and more into androids.
First- you said that you want a custom ROM. To install it you have to get S-off (security off)
Next- get clockwork recovery from the android store. The free version is enough. You will need this to put the ROM on the phone.
Everything else is ROM specific. Get the latest (not beta if you want it to be stable) version of the ROM and follow the instructions in it's topic.

TBH,
Just get the phone and play with it for a while.
You can install many many many Free Games and Apps from the Android Market.
If you don't have one already make yourself a GMail account, you'll need that when you get the phone.
Also when you add phone numbers make sure you add them as contacts to the Gmail account. That way if you decide to change ROMs later they'll automatically be Synced from GMail.
GL and have fun.

Thanks for the reply, but i really want different rom and dunno about installing games from internet(as a example i would like to install gta 3,i know that i need somehow to transfer sd files to sd card and then install .apk file? is that right?

You install them directly on the phone, either via a local WiFi or 3G. They are linked to your GMail account that was used when the phone is set up by you.
No transfers required when you install from the Market. If at a later time you change ROM, it'll ask you if you want to sync the apps and it'll re-download them from the Android Market.
Not tried GTA, I'll try now.
EDIT: Have you had an Android phone before ?

Nope, Sensation will be my first. But i didn`t understand? What do i install directly to the phone? You mean .apk file?
EDIT: 1 more question: DO I HAVE TO DO SUPERCID for my ROM????

OK,
Why have you decided you don't want the Stock ROM ?
Where are you trying to get the APK from ? You usually just install straight from Android Market ON THE PHONE. This installs the APK on the Phone as part of the process.
SUPERCID is to enable changing the RUU i.e. a different stock ROM, to a different carrier, or more universal one, e.g. RUU European.
Can you please explain what you are trying to achieve or trying to avoid doing.

well i`m from europe myself. and i want to install better rom, android revolution hd in my opinion. because i think it is better for me ,its is faster than stock rom but i don`t want to mess up anything...,and also if i install this custom rom,is there a way to get my old(stock one) back(i mean,if i don`t like it)? recovery or something else? or i just need to flash rom once again?

Once you have a custom recovery you can create a Nandroid backup and revert back. Or wipe and install another ROM, your choice.
How do you know what a "better" ROM is unless you've tried one ?
Faster is relative, You can change Kernels, or go to an AOSP ROM. How is the original one too slow when you haven't even tried it. Many folks base any change on look and feel.

So u suggest me do not install custom roms at all?

In accordance of the XDA Rule#12, I here by state that all applications that are being used in my ROMs are not created by me. And as it is, all tools used to create said ROMs are only used by me, not created. Thank you too all who have created apps for free usage.

Hi Trib,
I have a request:
Build: 6.5.5 (23563)
Device: Wing
Software: None
Flash Via: SD
ROM: Light
Light = Standard Items from OS no third party apps like Oxios. 1 Standard OS icon I don't need is the Screen lock so if possible you can leave that out as well.
This way I can add my apps to your great ROM with the newest versions.
Thanks

Ok havent been here for a while and find it difficult to find my way through now.
Trib, i wasn't able to get to a german 6.5.5 ROM for the HTC Herald thus far. I've seen u writing about it in that other thread of urs, so i was hoping u might have gotten all the nessecary files together by now.
Could u possibly cook a "germanized" Herald ROM pretty much the way SJK had them done in his German ROM Thread?
That'd be a real treat mate.
U kno, just pretty simple basic ROM with nuffin much just titanium style gui and some basic **** like com manager, pretty much O2 stock ROM like.
Could u b doin summert like that?
cheers bro.

I am working on it now; it's a bit difficult for me because this is only the second time ever I have create a ROM in a different language.
It's like putting a puzzle together with the pieces upside-down to put it to an analogy.
EDIT: German ROM wasn't flashable.
Ok Trib,
Thanks for the ROM. Bricked my Phone tho. Must figure why tho, can't really tell yet. It's still booting the CanonYang HSPL Screen and sometimes says "boot up failed due to sudden loss of Power" and then reboots after confirmed with yes.
Probably unstable USB con.
**** happens. Got my Leo yesterday so it doesnt really matter that much
Cheers for the work anyhow mate.
Ah I'm sorry I couldn't figure it out, to fix that problem you're having right now, just go to the bootloader screen (the Red/Blue/Green/White screen) and then load any other ROM on it and it will work fine.
Alright Trib,
was able to recover Phone by using a Stock RUU without the SPL.nbh.
could not recover with any previously working custom ROM. Weird. SPL somehow corrupt now?
I recommend u take down the Link to that german custom ROM. It seems not to work. Sorry mate.
Okay, now that you're on stock ROM you can HardSPL again.
Once you HardSPL you can flash custom ROMs.

Thanks for the custom ROM seems to be working very well. One question is there anything to be done to get more memory out of this build? Or would I need to switch over to one of the other OS versions to get like the 26MB Prog Memory?
Thanks again for all the hard work.
Yeah, But then there would be absolutely nothing on it. Do you want me to make you a ROM that has nothing on it?
EDIT: Hell, lol, I'll make it for you and you can see if you like it ^>^
And don't forget, I get those memory readings after I use oxios close apps and oxiox hybernate that are on my SD card..
Also, don't forget, I don't install .NetCF on there as well, so you'll see that my memory readings are before installing that as well.
The farthest I've ever pushed the Wing was 27MB free Program Memory.
Yes I know you leave out .NetCF and that those readings are after the use of Oxios. I use those as well I just use a version that has been tweaked so the popup box does not come up each time I run it. That way I do not have to close out the box every time. And sure if you are willing to build another I will give it a try just trying to get more back into the 18 to 19 range with my installed apps where the current is more like 15 to 16. Been using your ROMs for awhile now and love what you do, and I thank you for all the hard work. Just wanted to see what was possible to squeeze out of the newest version.
Thanks again.

I've outdone myself ^>^ I was able to get 28.11MB of free program memory and 74.17MB of free storage memory.

I ran oxios about 3 to 4 times intermittently with hibernate to get that reading.
And thank you for your patronage and for being a long time user of my ROMs :1

I just flashed that ROM I made you and it actually worked on my Wing.. Were you HardSPL'd before flashing?
I was actually hard SPL'd with CanonYang but i ran that again since u recommended it.
It doesnt make any diff. The Herald dies once it got ur ROM on it. Sorry mate. Everytime again, tried it around 10 times.
Its also not possible to recover with a custom ROM, only with a stock one where i took out the SPL.nbh.
Dunno what to think of that weird crap.
Not sure at all why it works for me. I am going to try to make you one more and see what happens.
I'm making you a new one, Sneaky..

Questions on root/flashing ROMs on HTC sensation

Hi guys. I'm hoping my post hasn't broken any forum rules... but anyway, i am very new to android, and i'm still trying to read up on/learn about rooting a phone + flashing a ROM to it. I have a few questions that i'm hoping some experienced people could answer for me =]
1. Does my HTC sensation need to have a certain update before i can try archieve S-Off? (I'm on the Three network [UK] and my software number is 1.34.771.1)
2. How easy is it to brick a device? Im good with computers, and can follow instructions, but seeing as i have no past experience with android, i'm anxious to try flash new ROMs to my phone without insurance - as £500 for a new device would kill me... =P
3. When flashing a new custom ROM to my phone, what kind of 'wipe' do i need to perform? I've read a few articles, all of which say to perform different wipes.
4. I dont understand ' Radio Flashing' could someone kindly explain that to me please?
5. What exactly does CWM backup? =P
I hope i'm not wasting anyones time here, i have read through the articles for noobs, just need some clarification =]
Thanks for everyones time.

1. As long as you are on Android 2.3.3 there shouldnt be a problem. 2.3.4 donesnt have a S=off just yet, i think
2. Bricking is actually very hard to do, if u follow instructions you should be good
3. all you need to wip is the system data, cache, and i reccomend wiping the battery status too
4. Radio flashing is chaning your radio number. this is actually a very easy process. Dont worry about this, all you do is put a zip on ur sd card, and the phone does the rest.
5. ClockWork Mod backs up quite literally everytrhing. Think "Macrium Reflect" for a PC. Or a "Ghost Backup" for a PC.
6. I just added this. don worry about wasting peoples time. We are here to help each other like a community. Let me know if u have any other questions.

Thank you very much =] Think i'll give rooting a go within the next week... just want to make my sensation that much faster and improve the battery life!
If you don't mind me asking;
What exactly is a Radio number for?
I am on android 2.3.3 , just my software number seemed different to other peoples phones =P
So if i use this 'Clockwork Mod' to backup everything, once the new ROM has installed, will everything just be the same (apart from the changes on the ROM obv) such as app placements on homescreens etc. Or will i have to put everything back?
Also, say android releases 2.3.5 , im assuming i would just flash an updated ROM over the top of an older 2.3.4 ROM when it is released?
I've read through the 1st sticky a few times already, just to familiarise myself with certain words/actions =]
Finally, what is hboot =]

Clockwork Mod is just a recovery program to allow you to install new ROMs to your device, but most importantly, to let you backup and restore your current device configuration (like a sort of time machine). Most developers recommend Clockwork Mod (CWM) because it is so good at what it does. If anything fails, and you need to use your phone in a pinch, just revert to a CWM backup, and all's well!
So, to answer your question, unfortunately, no. One of the only ways to do that is with Titanium Backup, a program from the Android Market.
CWM is for reverting to previous incarnations of your phone's software and firmware.
Sorry I only answered one question, but it was the only one I knew how to in an effective manner.
Sorry, I can answer another!

A radio is the way that your device communicates with your mobile networking. (wifi, 3G/4G, etc) Different Radio versions (numbers) work better for different people. Most developers will release a matched radio with their ROMs, which is usually what works best for them. Depending on your area, different radios may work better for you. Ultimately concerning radios, Your Mileage WILL vary. it's one of the other big trial and error pieces to flashing custom ROMs.

Radio Number/Version is the version of ur radio. This is signal related.
So when updates come out they typically update the
radio and make the signal strength better.
This is something to be careful with, when changing ROMs
make sure that the some you are about to change into
supports ur radio version.
When u use ClockWork Mod to backup it will backup your current settings. So if u backup it consists of your rom , apps, settings, etc. so if u restore that then everything would be like the old one. So Yes, u would have the set everything back on the homescreen. Its ok, u will get used to that.
When they release android 2.3.5 you might have to "wipe" your phone and do it again. Maybe, depending on your rom, you might be able to flash on top of 2.3.4
H-Boot is similar to the Bios of the computer. And you know how carefully you have to be to change that.
But the H-Boot version that the 1st sticky says allows changing of certain things, thus allowing you to have root.
Feel free to ask away, im here to help you

Lol. I'm just trying to be helpful so i can get to posting on the Dev. forums. There are plenty of easy questions there...
Appreciating the help guys =] Starting to understand a bit better!
So when i flash a new ROM, i must flash a new Radio? If i flash the recommended radio, how likely am i to get a good signal? And if im getting poor signal, i just have to keep trying new Radios? ( I Heard flashing radios is one of the ways you can brick your device)
Also with CWM - When the backup is made... do i have to keep it on the Sd card? Or can i move it to the computer so it takes up less space?
And if i understand correctly - CWM basically creates a backup just incase things go wrong you can always revert back?
... If i use titanium backup, what benefits does that bring over CWM? - Is it worth the money?
Thanks again

Also, how do i find my hboot version?

- Hold the power button, untill you get Shut Down, Airplane Mode or Restart.
- Click on Restart then Yes.
- Wait until all the lights on your device turn off.
- Hold the Vol. Down Button until a white screen shows.
There you'll find HBOOT-XXXXXX
This is your HBOOT version.
To get to your OS again:
- Make sure FASTBOOT is hightlighted.
- Press the <Power> button.
- Go to REBOOT by pressing Vol. Down.
- Press the <Power> button.
Hope it helps

You don't need Root to install a custom Root.
Just S-OFF, CWM and SuperCID I believe..
Just note down your old CID before writing the new SuperCID as you may need it later if you want to flash RUU and afraid of doing something wrong
Later on, if you want to flash RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) without the fear of flashing a wrong one, you can just write the old CID to your device again

To flash a ROM, you mean Stock ROM (RUU) or Custom ROM?
If Custom Rom, please read my post #13 then do the SuperCID thing as you will need it for custom ROM..
About your saved games, the only way I know you can backup your saved data with is using Titanium Backup, which can be found in the Market.
Obviously, if you still don't know what you're doing, research more and then do whatever you want.
I take no responsibilities about anything that may happen to your phone using any of the methods above.
Good luck

You'll find CID: XXXXX, keep this code with you, in-case you need it later for installing RUU and confused about which one to use.

I think you should ignore it, as it is trying to backup an extension in the SD-Card, as you can re-partition your SD-Card using CWM as I understand.
I would be pleased if someone explained to me what exactly sd-ext is and what I'm missing
Good day to you all

Ignoring it is ok. sd-ext not being backed up is most likely an indicator that an EXT4 formatted portion of your SD card was not found. By default, your SD card is formatted as FAT32 because of its universal acceptance by all OSs. Some users report a performance boost/personal preference toward EXT4, YMMV.

Most importantly, ClockworkMod does not back up your SD card. that is something you have to do manually on your computer, should you choose to do so. CWM is only responsible for backing up the internal storage of the phone that can be changed or wiped by ROMs (or mike1986's SuperWipe.) ROMs shouldn't change the contents of the SD card.

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?
The question pretty much sums it up. I just got a Sensation XE, Hong Kong model. It has a lot of crap software on it: youni sms, xda assistant, 通通电话,baidu, kuwo player, and all this other Chinese crap. I hate Chinese software with passion. If skynet was/is real, I believe it would be running a Chinese OS. Chinese software naturally tries to take over your computer or phone.
I want to switch to the stock rom with the least amount of junk on it. If it also has a good Chinese/English keyboard with handwriting input that is a plus.
Also, just to make sure I'm on the right track, this is what should be done before I can change roms, right?
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom

the steps are fine ..but 3rd step is not required ...and 2)better have 4EXT recovery ..its better imho and between 4 and 5 there might be one more step ..which can only be decided after you told the current rom you are having (if running gb now ..for ICS you need to flash 3.32/3.33 firmware ..then ROM)
as for the ROM ..for simple STOCK like and fully customized with bloat removed ..try ARHD, insert coin or Elegancia
Hi,
If you go through the steps you mentioned:
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod (Try to get a PG58IMG.zip version of it, saves having to fastboot flash it)
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom
You could stop at step3 and manuall delete stuff off the ROM you have. OR, what I'd probably do), and as mentioned you can skip step 3 if you're installing a new ROM. Go for a WWE (World Wide English) RUU if you want to keep completely Stock, you can then run ROMcleaner to remove some redundant crap.
Look for something like: RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5_Radio_11.69. 3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_246089_signed.exe
It's ICS with Sense 3.6. The 401 in the above means it's WWE and will either need SuperCID (11111111) or HTC__001, it's completely unbranded.
You can find ROMcleaner at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217664
Thanks for the replies. I know I can root and then uninstall system apps. I don't really like doing that because you just don't know what else has been done to the rom. This Hong Kong rom won't let me use stock SMS (I know how to select default SMS program, it doesn't work on this rom) and doesn't have stock browser (it has some chinese version of Opera), is asking me if I want to invite my contacts to join all kinds of stupid networks, gets involved with my text messages, has some Chinese antivirus that keeps complaining, and all kinds of other crap. It's the worst rom I've ever seen. The WWE appears to be what I'm looking for. It's unbranded and shouldn't have carrier or region specific stuff. Youtube and other apps that don't ask me questions I can deal with.
I want root, for all of it's obvious benefits. I usually run stock, rooted and custom kernal with GPU overclock. But I'm not so sure I like sense, but I want to try a cleaner rom before I decide on sense.
I'm guessing I don't need to do the OTA update before I start the process. I also saw there were some special procedures for the latest ICS. I'll deal with that bridge when I get there. For now I just need a clean rom that doesn't bombard me with useless Chinese crap.

There are a few WWE GB ROMs out there, the one I mentioned is pretty slick as it's ICS which seems to work better IMHO.
The following is mentioned in post 1776 and there abouts in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Pyramid
The OP has filefactory as the repository but it never worked for me so I gave up on it, looks like others had the same issue.
Just get a Europe one xxx.401.xxx. Avoid 1.24 if you want to go through OTA updates, I had issues with that, might have been me but .....
The ROMcleaner thing I mentioned is pretty good at removing the HTC extra stuff.
Of course, there are a few very nice custom ROMs out there. I was using Virtuous Inquisition (AOSP look and feel based on Sense but de-sensed as much as possible). I've not tried ARHD/IC and some of the others for a long time so can't comment on them.
Have fun and GL on your quest.
EDIT:
P.S. after applying the RUU you'll need to re-install CWM (again easiest was is if you have a PG58IMG.zip version of it) and then apply the root. It looks like the best root at the moment is SuperSU (reading some posts here from EddyOS).
Thanks again. I'm downloading:
RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R2_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_253443_signed.exe
Now that I look again the 3.33 version is available, I probably should have downloaded that.
I've already got: ADB drivers, HTC Sync, HTC driver, java, pg58img(recovery.img), CMW 5.0.2.0, revolutionary-0.4pre4, su-2.3.63-efgh, and the unbrick stuff in case something goes wrong. Once I finished downloading the firmware I should be ready to go. I'll double check that all the files are good, re-read all the instructional threads, and then get started. My phone doesn't have a warranty, so I have to make sure everything is done correctly the first time.
I also found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Will I need to flash this as well?
HTC phones are so much more complicated compared to the other phones I've rooted and flashed. On my Huawei phone you plugged the phone in to the computer, copied two files, and you were rooted and had CWM installed.

The 3.32 contains the 1.27.0000 HBOOT which can be unlocked (just done it myself). The 3.33 contains 1.29.0000 which at the moment cannot be unlocked.
As you're already S-OFF it probably doesn't make much difference. I'm on 3.32 at the moment, I don't know what the differences are between 3.32 & 3.33, I assume minor bug fixes.

Unless you go back to HBOOT 1.18.00 or earlier revolutionary can't help to S-OFF, as you're already S-OFF you shouldn't need it.
Does the PG58IMG.zip you mention contain CWM 5.0.2.0 ?, I usually keep a copy about called PG58IMG-CWM5020.zip, then change the name when I want to install it. The reason I ask is that PG58IMG.zip is a generic name and can be used for many things. You'll need to pop the uSD card when it asks you to reboot.
As far as SU is concerned, look at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053

No the RUU is self contained and includes the firmware/radio. You might want to install HBOOT 1.27.0011 afterwards, IRC it allows fastboot commands. I think it's in that thread.

I know HTC seemed to have created hassles. I had an early Sensation and waiting for someone to work out how to S-OFF was a real pain.

EDIT
REMEMBER to take a nandroid backup before you start, just in case ! Also remember that nandroid backups don't include HBOOT or Radio so if you need to revert you'd need to get them. Take a note of the existing baseband/radio & HBOOT.

Good point. I'll add that to the list of steps so I don't forget.
1) Setup ADB/fastboot
2) Get S-off
3) Install Clockwork Mod
4) Backup via CWM!!!!
5) Get permanent root
6) Write super cid
7) Change Stock Rom
Unfortunately the rom didn't download correctly, so looks like I won't be installing the rom tonight.

The nandroid backup is via ClockworkMod, not certain what you're backing up through ADB/fastboot. Guess you could get Radio/Recovery etc. Never tried it myself, I like a simple life
There is no point applying SuperSU until after you have installed the new Stock ROM. You can change the CID directly with fastboot, it doesn't need root for that.
Shame about the download, at least the steps look about right.
Eek, I thought you already had S-OFF ? What HBOOT are you on at the moment ? If it's 1.18.0000 or earlier revolutionary.io is perfect, if it's later it's a different process.
Note that when you install the new stock rom via RUUxxxx.exe, it'll splat the custom recovery so it'll need to be re-applied.
Umm, I booted into HBOOT to get my HBOOT version and at the top of the screen it says:
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT 1.17.008
RADIO-10.11.9007.15_M
That mean I already had S-OFF, right? Well that was easy.
Actually the phone was smuggled into China to avoid taxes. The sellers probably had to get S-OFF to put a Chinese language rom on there. Which also would explain all the extra bloatware, probably was installed by the same people.
Also, I wasn't able to pull the images through ADB. Have to wait until after rooted.
UPDATE: Installed CWM, backing up now, then root. So far so good. I'll probably have to settle for using Titanium Backup to remove the unwanted apps for now. The second try at downloading the RUU also failed.
UPDATE: Rooted, through it probably was already rooted. Also checked the CID and it was already 11111111. Thanks Chinese smugglers. You did all the work for me. Now to finish uninstalling all the crap you put on my phone.
So actually, the only work I did was install the SU and backup my system.
Nice to see it going smoothly for you, and remember if you want to install ics, you need to flash a ics firmware 3.32 or 3.33. Or you'll be in a boot loop.

As you say that was easy.
There are other sites that you can download 3.32.401 from as it's fairly common, have a look.
As you have a nandroid backup that you can recover back to if needed you can also try ROMcleaner.
I'm going to try a Jelly Bean ROM tomorrow so my nandroid backup will be vital )
A really nice fairly lightweight ROM is Virtuous Inquisition. As I said it's AOSP look and feel but has Sense backend, it's been de-sensed as much as possible.
Anyway Have Fun.

The RUU will contain everything you need and update firmware, Radio, Recovery, HBOOT, ..... and of course the ROM.
Remember it'll flatten the ROM so all saved messages, WiFi details etc. will be lost.
If for some reason you need to revert back to your existing ROM you'll need to downgrade the firmware to 1.17.0008, including the radio. I doubt you'll bother though when you're on 3.32.

Hello , i'm planning to buy HTC Sensation XE white in 1 month and whant to ask you're opinion.Should i buy it or you recommand other Htc?
1.Installing Rom.I've serch and found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782009 is it good or i need other rom?
-roms are like a firmware that u use it and navigate on it and see it on youre phone.
2.Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562027 good or not?i whant the feature that allows you to unlock it by touch like in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jri2BMQHHrs
-kernel is the soft that allows the phone to comunicate with the soft, right?
3.Sense???This is only avalible on HTC and it allows you to customize youre phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640467 or other one?
All Htc Seansation rom, kernel, sense works with HTC Sensation XE?
And the most important question how do i do all of this???I've been working with iPhone for the last 2 year jb them and installing iOS,baseband, etc but on Android i have no clue....
When i serch for game i get them from http://apptrackr.cd/ is the an android site like that?
iAP is an cydia resource that allows you buy in game cash or unlock items android has something like that?
How do i root it?Universal root?
What are the combinations to get in the...how u call it....when the phone boot sercret menu that allows you to flash and do other things. What should i replace it with?or is it already included in the rom..or kernel?
So what other things should i know about? And what u recommand me?
Ty and sorry for my bad english.
After serching for more.....
1. Ok so before doing any thing i need to make a Nandroid backup like in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNVW4wMQPpY
The secret menu is called Bootloade do i need to replace with other one?
2. Custom ROM installation:
Download the ROM of your choice. And follow the specific flashing information for that specific ROM. Generally the method is as follows.
a. Download your custom ROM.
b. Check the MD5 checksum of the downloaded file to be 200% sure that your downloaded zip is not damaged.
c. Copy your ROM on the root of your SDCARD.
d. Boot into Recovery.
e. Do a nandroid backup. If anything goes wrong
f. Do a Superwipe.
g. Install your ROM.
h. Install the specific radio if required.
i. Reboot. Wait at leat for 7 to 10 Minutes for firstboot.
j. Enjoy your cutom ROM.
Do i do this even for Kernel and Sensation?
To enter bootloader i do this "Switch off your phone. Pull back the battery. Wait a minute. Put your battery back in the phone. Press POWER+VOLUME – Key together. Wait till the bootloader is ready." ??

Seems like U r well prepared...for Sensation XE
See I'm trying to solve all ur doubts
1) ROM= Android OS+ UI (User Interface, Like Sense, Touchwiz etc.)
Any ROM is a choice of your Interest, Flash it and stay with it, If you Like stick with it, Otherwise change it..
All ROMs are good, Its just a matter of your Choice...
2) Kernel= A Bridge between your AndroidOS to Your Phone's Hardware..means Kernel manages all the drivers of Video and Audio and all ..
The feature that you are talking about is S2W-Swipe To Wake..To Unlock the Phone,U have to Swipe from Home to Search button...(Majority of the HTC custom kernels support it)
Thanx to XDA devs...
3) Sense Customization...ohhh there is a whole new story...Lots of Customization than your Thoughts,That Thread is Not enough,The Whole new world is there...
Yes All ROMs of HTC Sensation/XE/4G will work for HTC Sensation XE...
Abt Android Apps:: In Apple, I know u need JB, But in Androd u even don't need JailBreak...u'll get 90% of paid apps by Google Search..It will take a time but U'll definitely got them from somewhere..Cracked versions...U'll get all the 3D games free with Data..Its just depend on your Search Query
For Rooting/Custom Recovery/Unlocking bootloader/flashing Firmware, You will be given Lots of tutorials in Very easy manner and u'll get 24x7 help from milions of XDA members
After this phase ROM flash will b there...All ROM will include BusyBox and Super User for handling your SuperUser...
Your Kernel will be flashed at the Time of the ROM installation,But if you wish to change the kernel, u have to flash it in same manner via Recovery..Kernel will flash quickly as it is a small part..
For Flashing the ROM, your Steps are correct..
For Bootloader, U can switch off the cell..No need to pull out battery...Just hold Volume down+Power button continuously...Or If its not working then U have to pull out the Battery..
FYI: Majority of the ROMs have a facility to directly Jump to the Bootloader/Recovery from the Power Menu
Edit:: I haven't seen any Videos nor any URLs which u posted, Cause I'm on my Cell Phone..
Conclusion:: I strongly Not Recommending HTC Sensation XE at this moment, Cause its almost outdated..And Still HTC has not annouce any News about JellyBean upgrade, And Better to jump to One Series,If you can afford One X+, It will be Best Option And One X and One S,Evo 4G are the Best as compare to XE
Abt me:: I'm enjoying My Sensation a lot(Thanks to ViperS ROM), Just because I bought it before 10 months and Now I can't afford any other device, I'm just a Student..But Honestly I wish I can buy HOX
But Happy with What I have

[Q] Please, Help installing CM11 (Noob here)

Hello there
I received a new HTC Sensation as a gift, It was bought from Ebay. It came with Stock 2.3. I would like some help on how to root, install CWM/4EXT and install Sultanxda's CM11 ROM. I also like Viper Rom but we all know Kitkat is in a lot of ways better than JB. I have already read the guides in the Forums, but that didn't help me much. This is my first Android phone but not necessarily the first phone I flash a Custom Rom to. I have some experience with LG and Samsung phones, but those are easier. In few words, could someone please answer this questions?
1) Do I need to update to ICS to install CM11? Also, how do I install CWM/4EXT and Root the phone?
2) Do I lose my network connectivity? I mean, do I have to backup something like IMEI data or EFS Folder? I don't live in the US (sorry for my bad english) and the phone is unlocked, dunno if that matters.
3) This may sound silly and stupid, but can I live without Gapps? I don't really need them, I can just install another market. Gapps use too much resources and the only Google Apps that I MAY use are Youtube and Chrome Browser. Also, I need to sync contacts but I already exported as Vcard file. I do not need Google Play or the other Google Apps.
Thanks for your help and advice

Hello there
I received a new HTC Sensation as a gift, It was bought from Ebay.

To flash another rom you need to be s-off or to unlock your bootloader. I don't know exactly if you need to update to ICS, but I don't think so, it should be enough to update your firmware (as far as I know that's necessary). For kitkat roms you should use 4EXT.
You don't loose anything, but you can make a backup of your stock rom as it is with 4ext and save it to your computer.
Yes, you can live without gapps. You don't want them, don't flash them.
To install a custom rom you need to do the following:
Get root access - go to htcdev.com select Sensation they will tell you what to do next
Install Custom Recovery - find an CWM TWRP or 4EXT image for Sensation here on XDA and flash it using fastboot
Get S-OFF - go to http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm they will also guide you trough the process ( the most fun ive had unlocking, its like a game)
Then you are ready to flash custom roms. As for CM11 our device isnt supported officially though there are great CM11 based roms for our device.
Installing rom is easy dont worry when you are done unlocking the phone i can explain that also. If you have any further questions regarding any of the above procedures ill try to help. Cheers

S-OFF is kinda usefull, but not necessary.
I would suggest -
revolutionary to s-off (easiest way)
flash the 3.32 or 3.33 firmware (needed for latest roms)
flash 4ext recovery (latest is 1.0.0.6) i can post it if u cant find it in link below.
Then ul have full control of ur phone and u can flash any rom in recovery. Link below has all u need.

there's a guide somewheres, you don't have to s-off. I'm not even sure what the benefit of s-off is.

Yes u dont need to s-off but it has many benefits (google to find out for urself) but the main reason i suggest it too some users is because normally the people that ask how to do this and how to do that r usually the people that panic when something goes wrong then they automatically think they need to run a ruu then the ruu fails then they ask questions later when they stuck. So for me to suggest s-off is for one reason only, supercid.. then when they get stuck they can run any ruu and not worry. Anyway to s-off using revolutionary is faster than unlocking ur bootloader via htcdev, so why not? And ul have FULL control of ur phone.

Revolutionary is an easier method than juopunutbear but the later editions of HTC Sensations (XE) are not supported. Mine came with HBoot 1.27 i think and maximum for the revolutionary is 1.18 (http://revolutionary.io/).

New or second hand/used? Sensations came with stock android 2.3.x including the xe, with the option to upgrade to ICS. i have the XE and normal senny. the op of this thread says he has a sensation stock 2.3.x so he should be ok for revolutionary.

I think we should just all wait till the OP actually replies so we know for sure what his bootloader details are, all these links for different methods is just gona confuse the xxxx outa him.

Strange coz the ics upgrade was more a test than anything. Was there for users to install if they wanted it.

Agreed on waiting...
Yea at some point in 2012 HTC stopped shipping Senny with Beats headphones (which i didnt care for anyway), then started shipping with stock ICS (http://www.phonearena.com/news/Whit...March-to-ship-with-Ice-Cream-Sandwich_id26512).

Cool, did not know that. Strange that they shipped it with ICS coz it was not very good, had bugs and alot of users had wifi issues. The ICS sense 3.6 roms here on xda r good but htc"s update wasnt.
