In accordance of the XDA Rule#12, I here by state that all applications that are being used in my ROMs are not created by me. And as it is, all tools used to create said ROMs are only used by me, not created. Thank you too all who have created apps for free usage.

Request
Hi Trib,
I have a request:
Build: 6.5.5 (23563)
Device: Wing
Software: None
Flash Via: SD
ROM: Light
Light = Standard Items from OS no third party apps like Oxios. 1 Standard OS icon I don't need is the Screen lock so if possible you can leave that out as well.
This way I can add my apps to your great ROM with the newest versions.
Thanks

Ok havent been here for a while and find it difficult to find my way through now.
Trib, i wasn't able to get to a german 6.5.5 ROM for the HTC Herald thus far. I've seen u writing about it in that other thread of urs, so i was hoping u might have gotten all the nessecary files together by now.
Could u possibly cook a "germanized" Herald ROM pretty much the way SJK had them done in his German ROM Thread?
That'd be a real treat mate.
U kno, just pretty simple basic ROM with nuffin much just titanium style gui and some basic **** like com manager, pretty much O2 stock ROM like.
Could u b doin summert like that?
cheers bro.

I am working on it now; it's a bit difficult for me because this is only the second time ever I have create a ROM in a different language.
It's like putting a puzzle together with the pieces upside-down to put it to an analogy.

EDIT: German ROM wasn't flashable.

Ok Trib,
Thanks for the ROM. Bricked my Phone tho. Must figure why tho, can't really tell yet. It's still booting the CanonYang HSPL Screen and sometimes says "boot up failed due to sudden loss of Power" and then reboots after confirmed with yes.
Probably unstable USB con.
**** happens. Got my Leo yesterday so it doesnt really matter that much
Cheers for the work anyhow mate.

Ah I'm sorry I couldn't figure it out, to fix that problem you're having right now, just go to the bootloader screen (the Red/Blue/Green/White screen) and then load any other ROM on it and it will work fine.

Alright Trib,
was able to recover Phone by using a Stock RUU without the SPL.nbh.
could not recover with any previously working custom ROM. Weird. SPL somehow corrupt now?
I recommend u take down the Link to that german custom ROM. It seems not to work. Sorry mate.

Okay, now that you're on stock ROM you can HardSPL again.
Once you HardSPL you can flash custom ROMs.

Thanks for the custom ROM seems to be working very well. One question is there anything to be done to get more memory out of this build? Or would I need to switch over to one of the other OS versions to get like the 26MB Prog Memory?
Thanks again for all the hard work.

Yeah, But then there would be absolutely nothing on it. Do you want me to make you a ROM that has nothing on it?
EDIT: Hell, lol, I'll make it for you and you can see if you like it ^>^
And don't forget, I get those memory readings after I use oxios close apps and oxiox hybernate that are on my SD card..
Also, don't forget, I don't install .NetCF on there as well, so you'll see that my memory readings are before installing that as well.
The farthest I've ever pushed the Wing was 27MB free Program Memory.

Yes I know you leave out .NetCF and that those readings are after the use of Oxios. I use those as well I just use a version that has been tweaked so the popup box does not come up each time I run it. That way I do not have to close out the box every time. And sure if you are willing to build another I will give it a try just trying to get more back into the 18 to 19 range with my installed apps where the current is more like 15 to 16. Been using your ROMs for awhile now and love what you do, and I thank you for all the hard work. Just wanted to see what was possible to squeeze out of the newest version.
Thanks again.

I've outdone myself ^>^ I was able to get 28.11MB of free program memory and 74.17MB of free storage memory.
http://www.mediafire.com/?mlh954s6ijv6x47
I ran oxios about 3 to 4 times intermittently with hibernate to get that reading.
And thank you for your patronage and for being a long time user of my ROMs :1

I just flashed that ROM I made you and it actually worked on my Wing.. Were you HardSPL'd before flashing?

I was actually hard SPL'd with CanonYang but i ran that again since u recommended it.
It doesnt make any diff. The Herald dies once it got ur ROM on it. Sorry mate. Everytime again, tried it around 10 times.
Its also not possible to recover with a custom ROM, only with a stock one where i took out the SPL.nbh.
Dunno what to think of that weird crap.

Not sure at all why it works for me. I am going to try to make you one more and see what happens.

I'm making you a new one, Sneaky..

Well I am doing that for the past two days ... but still cant figure out !!
There are a couple of things you need to do, but I don't have links for each of them, so you need to find them in this forum and do them yourself:
1. superCID you phone. unless you do this, you can't flash your rom. at least that was what happened to me.
2. download one of the roms, I am using the VA_alpha rom, which quite stable and functional. you may use the others as well. but I recommend VA_alpha for now.
3. Follow the instructions specific to the rom you downloaded. Basically you need to connect your phone to the usb, connect via active sync, then run the rom update file and let it do its thing.
4. depending on the rom you used, you may want to add some extras after flash. especially phil's version needed lots of things to be installed after the flash. VA_alpha has almost everything in the rom, so you don't need to deal with many things after the flash and start using your phone immediately.
Have fun!

well, as long as you want a basic phone, you don't need to install any extras. After all, this is why they are called extras, right? But then, if you are just looking for a basic functionality phone, why bother yourself with upgrading to an alpha operating system?

Flashing the Htc Rom on a Tilt. (or alternative option?)

tomorrow hopefully i will be getting the Tilt, and I will most likely wanna put the HTC rom on my phone. where is the correct guide on this forum for doing so? I really wouldnt like to brick my phone when i get it.
however there is an alternative option i was thinking of. I watched a review on youtube when the guy first turned on the phone, it started to install all of the AT&T 3rd party apps. Is there any way to skip this part? i really dont want all of that AT&T junk on my phone, which is why i was thinking of flashing to the htc rom. Also i assume the htc rom has more Rom and Ram avaible?

To install the HTC factory ROM you'll need to follow and install this.
To skip installing some of the extra apps and settings on the Tilt you'll just need to soft-reset the device following the initial setup, but right before it's starts installing all the extras.
The stock HTC ROM does have more free ROM, but no real difference with the RAM.
Hope that answers your questions.
I'm not seeing the HTC ROM for the Kaiser anywhere, what am I overlooking?

maybe it's just cuz i dont have the Tilt Yet, but i dont quite understand what your trying to say. follow the initial setup?

Sorry I wasn't clearer. During the initial setup of the phone (when you first turn it on), you do things like align the screen, set the time and date, then it starts it's "customization" and begins installing all the extras. Right when it starts the "customization" (it will identify it as such), just soft-reset. Make sense?

I'm not sure how much you'll free up, as I didn't do it. But if you're considering flashing the HTC ROM you'll get about 120+ free ROM while even keeping all it's customization files. SIGNIFICANT difference.

Good question. Currently no one's come up with the fix for that. However, it should be easy enough. We just need someone with the ATT ROM installed to document all the keyboard references in the registry and the values for them and then compare that with the HTC ROM's registry keyboard values and adjust accordingly (hopefully).
Since I've found out that you can't flash back to the ATT ROM once you flash the HTC ROM... yet, I can't do that myself (dang).
Any takers?

Yeah, getting the "INVALID MODEL ID" 244 error. We need a custom RUU to flash back, it appears.
1. whats the keyboard issue?
2. you cant flash back to the AT&T rom, is this only temporary? will there be a way to flash back eventually?
Just thinking, I guess we could just change the Model ID in the nbh to reflect the correct model number. That *should* correct the 244 error.
I've flashed back and forth a couple times...
I have some registry dumps from the AT&T ROM to try and figure out the keyboard issue... I'll post them below, but so far haven't found the key (no pun intended)

Looking forward to a fix... sorry for the lengthy post
Dave
FYI... my method for flashing back and forth is just to put the phone into the bootloader manually and then running the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the extracted ROMs. I am using the HardSPL bootloader, not using SSPL at all at this point.
Let me know if that doesn't work for you and I'll try to be more verbose.
what exactly is the keyboard problem? im guessing it quits working or something when you flash the HTC Rom on the Tilt?
keyboard still works fine... but some of the alt keys are mixed up. So the blue alternate keys don't map correctly. This isn't a deal breaker for me, because I know it will be fixed soon and I really like the ability to remap my PTT button with the HTC ROM.

Need help

Hey guys i just unlocked my phone and put mighty rom 4 in it and it eats up all my memory. i need help finding a better rom for my Verizon Touch Pro Non Sim card. and im a noob at this just got the phone today..
Read this sticky on Flashing a CDMA device
Spend some time in the wiki
And whatever rom u choose is a personal preference. Check out NRGZ28's roms, they seem to be the most popular. Be sure to only flash a CDMA rom!
ok my phone is unlocked dio i need to flash it again eventho i have might rom on to put a new rom on or can i just put new rom on it with might rom on it

You would not have been able to flash a cooked ROM unless the phone was unlocked.
Are you saying yuou flashed then unlocked?
Doesn't make any sense.
I understand you're a noob, do I strongly suggest you read BEFORE you flash, then you won't have questions such as these.
If you flashed a ROM that "ate up all your memory" then you did something wrong.
I would suggest flashing back to a stock ROM and go to the CDMA flashing guide for noobs.
You can flash directly to a new ROM if you are unlocked.

No i didnt flash then unlock. I wana know if i can put new firmware on my phone with the mighty rom on it... Like get rid of the mighty rom and put somthing else on it with out going in the flash guide and unlocking my phone again and stuff like that... Also can i put WM6.5 Rom on my phone even tho it has 6.1 on it. and whats the difference between CDMA And the other thing
I have Verizons "Version" of the touch. oh and i forgot when i say it using all my memory mean like after and hour of use it will be at 82% mem usage with all the programs closed
If you are unlocked, you can flash a cooked ROM over the one that you have now, even if its WM6.5.
CDMA means you have no SIM card where GSM has a SIM card, so you need to read specifically for flashing a CDMA ROM to your phone, or you will brick it.
Also, I thnk the 82% is your battery level. Where do you see the 82%
on the top right corner i press it and has the lil mem icon and it says 78% next 2 it. whats a good backup program for my contacts and data

Ok, that is the task manager program usage.
78% seems high with nothing running but you can open task manager and it will tell you which programs are using iup your resources.
If you try to restore PIM backup to Manila it will hose up Manila, so I use Microsoft's MyPhone program to sync my contacts, texts, even music and pics to a server.
Alright man cool. Thanks for your help

THIS IS UNSIGNED, IF YOU AREN'T USING CLOCKWORK, YOU SHOULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO SIGN IT YOURSELF. I'LL RELEASE SIGNED VERSIONS LATER.
EDIT YOU NEED A 114 MB SYSTEM FOR THIS VERSION DUE TO A 25MB BOOT ANIMATION, PLEASE USE MTD UNTIL I FIX IT
i got you bro. once i get my son to sleep ill test. you know anything yet? data/cam/wifi/gps etc? if not its cool, thats what tests are for.
ok, just doing this for people who dont want to sift through for the signed version: not signed by me, boot animation not swapped by me, *******there is a green bar at the bottom for status of install on boot note though, even after the bar is full it will still take a second IF YOU HAVE ADB INSTALLED RUN A LOGCAT, AS LONG AS YOU SEE THINGS MOVING YOU ARE GOOD. ********. let it sit for awhile like usual after it loads (20+ min). you also have to input the tmo apns to get svc.
link to signed version of the rom
http://goo.gl/opI3
tmo apn's:
http://goo.gl/bNtU
will post back a working/not working in a min.
i would also suggest not doing the system update that it says is avail once you get data working.
Love this.

yes this is a port from the 32a rom to 32b. its not signed so you can only flash via clockwork right now. clockwork doesnt require a signiture for it to be able to flash. if you use amon_ra just wait. im booting into linux after i post this now that i have my son asleep and will look into what can possibly be trimmed down then will sign and post up after im done.
ok, decided not to mess with anything, i dont use some stuff but others do, its signed and im gonna test now, just got done doing backup on current rom and will post if it flashes.
need to wait, since i have amon_ra.
Allright!! looking forward to this, I could sign the rom myself but ill wait to see how the rom works for you guys and im also waiting for a class 6 sdcard that I purchased a few days ago... anyways, im gonna try it with the class 4 i have right now after you try it and maybe cut some size
i hate clockwork. and it wont sign for me for some reason. idk why.
can someone please sign this so we can flash.
Good luck, guys. Really interested to see if this works.
im really going to enjoy triming this fat lady and mod a few things
anyone able to sign this thing yet?
Can you make a version that doesn't require an ext partition? Im on a mytouch 3g, should be able to handle it.
can't get it to sign (then again this might be my fault) how about first person to get this signed/flashed uploads some screenshots
btw: i'm using the autosigner
I'm downloading and signin... I replace the bootanimation to one less heavy??
p.s. sorry for my english
edit: I'm uploading to mediafire..if it finish in 5 minutes I give the link...if don't... I must go to work..link tonight..sorry
p.s. I've change the bootanimation..20 mb saved

No, I take off the bootanimation of 20 MB and replace with one of 640kb... and I don't use MTD partition tonight the link..now I'm @ work...
p.s. I'l make a senseless rom
anyone tested it now? i want results; nothing about uploading elsewhere, signing mtd patch etc;
there are enough threads about it. there is a good working signing tool in xda.. search for it as well as tuts for it;
i think this thread should focus on the rom as it is something very interesting and new.
i wont try it at the moment cause i softbricked my phone with mtd patches.
please tell how the rom is...
EDIT: btw i know that this post is senseless concerning the original topic but i just want that this thread stays focused..

Questions on root/flashing ROMs on HTC sensation

Hi guys. I'm hoping my post hasn't broken any forum rules... but anyway, i am very new to android, and i'm still trying to read up on/learn about rooting a phone + flashing a ROM to it. I have a few questions that i'm hoping some experienced people could answer for me =]
1. Does my HTC sensation need to have a certain update before i can try archieve S-Off? (I'm on the Three network [UK] and my software number is 1.34.771.1)
2. How easy is it to brick a device? Im good with computers, and can follow instructions, but seeing as i have no past experience with android, i'm anxious to try flash new ROMs to my phone without insurance - as £500 for a new device would kill me... =P
3. When flashing a new custom ROM to my phone, what kind of 'wipe' do i need to perform? I've read a few articles, all of which say to perform different wipes.
4. I dont understand ' Radio Flashing' could someone kindly explain that to me please?
5. What exactly does CWM backup? =P
I hope i'm not wasting anyones time here, i have read through the articles for noobs, just need some clarification =]
Thanks for everyones time.

1. As long as you are on Android 2.3.3 there shouldnt be a problem. 2.3.4 donesnt have a S=off just yet, i think
2. Bricking is actually very hard to do, if u follow instructions you should be good
3. all you need to wip is the system data, cache, and i reccomend wiping the battery status too
4. Radio flashing is chaning your radio number. this is actually a very easy process. Dont worry about this, all you do is put a zip on ur sd card, and the phone does the rest.
5. ClockWork Mod backs up quite literally everytrhing. Think "Macrium Reflect" for a PC. Or a "Ghost Backup" for a PC.
6. I just added this. don worry about wasting peoples time. We are here to help each other like a community. Let me know if u have any other questions.
I am following this thread, and when u reply i will answer you again. So feel free to ask any more questions.
If you feel like ur ready to root just go to the Development forum and see the 1st sticky thread. Or if u ask i will send u a few links on how to root.

Thank you very much =] Think i'll give rooting a go within the next week... just want to make my sensation that much faster and improve the battery life!
If you don't mind me asking;
What exactly is a Radio number for?
I am on android 2.3.3 , just my software number seemed different to other peoples phones =P
So if i use this 'Clockwork Mod' to backup everything, once the new ROM has installed, will everything just be the same (apart from the changes on the ROM obv) such as app placements on homescreens etc. Or will i have to put everything back?
Also, say android releases 2.3.5 , im assuming i would just flash an updated ROM over the top of an older 2.3.4 ROM when it is released?
I've read through the 1st sticky a few times already, just to familiarise myself with certain words/actions =]
Finally, what is hboot =]
Thanks again for your time!

Clockwork Mod is just a recovery program to allow you to install new ROMs to your device, but most importantly, to let you backup and restore your current device configuration (like a sort of time machine). Most developers recommend Clockwork Mod (CWM) because it is so good at what it does. If anything fails, and you need to use your phone in a pinch, just revert to a CWM backup, and all's well!
So, to answer your question, unfortunately, no. One of the only ways to do that is with Titanium Backup, a program from the Android Market.
CWM is for reverting to previous incarnations of your phone's software and firmware.
Sorry I only answered one question, but it was the only one I knew how to in an effective manner.
Sorry, I can answer another!

A radio is the way that your device communicates with your mobile networking. (wifi, 3G/4G, etc) Different Radio versions (numbers) work better for different people. Most developers will release a matched radio with their ROMs, which is usually what works best for them. Depending on your area, different radios may work better for you. Ultimately concerning radios, Your Mileage WILL vary. it's one of the other big trial and error pieces to flashing custom ROMs.

Radio Number/Version is the version of ur radio. This is signal related.
So when updates come out they typically update the
radio and make the signal strength better.
This is something to be careful with, when changing ROMs
make sure that the some you are about to change into
supports ur radio version.
When u use ClockWork Mod to backup it will backup your current settings. So if u backup it consists of your rom , apps, settings, etc. so if u restore that then everything would be like the old one. So Yes, u would have the set everything back on the homescreen. Its ok, u will get used to that.
When they release android 2.3.5 you might have to "wipe" your phone and do it again. Maybe, depending on your rom, you might be able to flash on top of 2.3.4
H-Boot is similar to the Bios of the computer. And you know how carefully you have to be to change that.
But the H-Boot version that the 1st sticky says allows changing of certain things, thus allowing you to have root.
Feel free to ask away, im here to help you

lol. you posted both while i was writing up my response.
Its good though, because then the OP will get to read 2 times as much, which will make him even better at the terminology and the process
Lol. I'm just trying to be helpful so i can get to posting on the Dev. forums. There are plenty of easy questions there...
Appreciating the help guys =] Starting to understand a bit better!
So when i flash a new ROM, i must flash a new Radio? If i flash the recommended radio, how likely am i to get a good signal? And if im getting poor signal, i just have to keep trying new Radios? ( I Heard flashing radios is one of the ways you can brick your device)
Also with CWM - When the backup is made... do i have to keep it on the Sd card? Or can i move it to the computer so it takes up less space?
And if i understand correctly - CWM basically creates a backup just incase things go wrong you can always revert back?
... If i use titanium backup, what benefits does that bring over CWM? - Is it worth the money?
Thanks again
~Tbestie~
Also, how do i find my hboot version?
Ive started trying to get S-Off... just be reading ahead, it says that Custom ROMs come with root already? Does that mean i just need CWM with S-Off to flash a ROM? Or do i need to Root + Do the Super-Cid thing?

- Hold the power button, untill you get Shut Down, Airplane Mode or Restart.
- Click on Restart then Yes.
- Wait until all the lights on your device turn off.
- Hold the Vol. Down Button until a white screen shows.
There you'll find HBOOT-XXXXXX
This is your HBOOT version.
To get to your OS again:
- Make sure FASTBOOT is hightlighted.
- Press the <Power> button.
- Go to REBOOT by pressing Vol. Down.
- Press the <Power> button.
Hope it helps

You don't need Root to install a custom Root.
Just S-OFF, CWM and SuperCID I believe..
Just note down your old CID before writing the new SuperCID as you may need it later if you want to flash RUU and afraid of doing something wrong
Later on, if you want to flash RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) without the fear of flashing a wrong one, you can just write the old CID to your device again
Check this post to know more
Sorry for the silly amount of posts... i cant find how to delete them!
Just so you know - I've archieved S-Off now , and installed CWM successfully.

Later on, if you want to flash RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) without the fear of flashing a wrong one, you can just write the old CID to your device again

To flash a ROM, you mean Stock ROM (RUU) or Custom ROM?
If Custom Rom, please read my post #13 then do the SuperCID thing as you will need it for custom ROM..
About your saved games, the only way I know you can backup your saved data with is using Titanium Backup, which can be found in the Market.
Obviously, if you still don't know what you're doing, research more and then do whatever you want.
I take no responsibilities about anything that may happen to your phone using any of the methods above.
Good luck

I posted all the instructions in the other link I posted.
You'll find CID: XXXXX, keep this code with you, in-case you need it later for installing RUU and confused about which one to use.

Starting to understand what im doing. About to make a backup using CWM. =]
*UPDATE* - Performed backup with CWM - Everything seemed to go fine... however i noticed it said ''No sd-ext found, skipping backup of sd-ext''...
Does that mean my SD card isnt backed up?

That's exactly what happened to me when I backed up.
I think you should ignore it, as it is trying to backup an extension in the SD-Card, as you can re-partition your SD-Card using CWM as I understand.
I would be pleased if someone explained to me what exactly sd-ext is and what I'm missing
Good day to you all

Ignoring it is ok. sd-ext not being backed up is most likely an indicator that an EXT4 formatted portion of your SD card was not found. By default, your SD card is formatted as FAT32 because of its universal acceptance by all OSs. Some users report a performance boost/personal preference toward EXT4, YMMV.

Most importantly, ClockworkMod does not back up your SD card. that is something you have to do manually on your computer, should you choose to do so. CWM is only responsible for backing up the internal storage of the phone that can be changed or wiped by ROMs (or mike1986's SuperWipe.) ROMs shouldn't change the contents of the SD card.
