I was wondering if anybody has dealt with Best Buy's total protection Plan. I always get my phones from t-Mobile with asurion insurance. I have heard that Best buy has a better replacement plan. Anyone with experience care to share details?

It looks like Best Buy sells the Captivate and they offer an insurance program where they replace phones that are malfunctioning.
Does anyone have any experience using the protection plan with this phone? Do you think Best Buy would cover a random shutdown issue or would they pass you off to Samsung? Do you think they would honor the AT&T two year renewal discount?
Thanks,
JOe K.
I think Best Buy's "Black Tie Protection" is definately worth the $9.99 a month. I found out to be the best out there when covering your phone against accidental damage like dropping your phone! unfortunately you have to wait because they ship out the phone to see if it could be fixed, so you will have to use another phone for the time being, but its definately worth it for the coverage on the battery and charger. Also if you do go with the "Black Tie Protection," Make sure to get a reward zone membership. its free and you get points back if you dont use the protection plan over the life of the 24 months.
BEST BUY Black Tie Protection
I purchased the protection for my sons blackberry and whenever he had and issue with the phone he would take to Best Buy and they would exchange it for a new one no quesitons asked. I also purchased it for my captivate but havent had to use it.
Black Tie offers the RapidExchange on iphones and blackberries only. All others are sent for repair service and BB gives a loaner phone until the repair is done, or the phone is deemed dead and they issue a store credit for the full purchase price of the phone.

Can you get insurance through Tmobile with this phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Nope. I just ordered mine and talked to T-Mobile about insurance, as of right now they are not covering the NS. Maybe later they will...?
Thanks, I'll hold off on it for now then.

I did mine through Best Buy. They cover everything but loss. Should be enough. I hope....
Insurance from Best Buy
Offered at $10/month. Not worth it, IMHO.
I already had the $4.99 insurance on my line for the mytouch 4g and called t-mobile to see if it would transfer. The rep told me it would automatically cover the new phone including theft and loss. $120 deductible if theft or loss and free replacement for hardware and other warranty issues.

I was thinking to same since it didn't cover loss, but the t-mobile one was 4.99 so its not that much more...

Good call, just confirmed this with T-Mobile as well. Now I'm worry free.
Will T-Mobile handset insurance still apply for this handset?
"T-Mobile will not be selling the phone so they will not be offering their insurance. We recommend Best Buy's Geek Squad Black Tie Protection ($9.99 per month)."

time to call t-mobile, again to confirm. maybe if I get 5 yes's its gotta be true right?
Weird just got off the phone with assuron (spelling?) and they said that it will probably be covered, similar to the nexus one, but what was weird was when he said that with the nexus one, when people said their phone broke, they would send a comparable phone ie. vibrant....
Id be careful with the best buy insurance, i bought it a long time ago once on my iPod which ended up breaking which they had to send it in and have them look into the issue to see if they would cover it, 3 weeks later i get it returned to me saying they would not cover the problem. I believe it won't cover a LOT of things that the T-Mobile like lost or water damange, so i would be careful getting the best buy "insurance" plan for this phone.
Also T-Mobiles insurance website, w**.phoneclaim.com/t-mobile does not list the Nexus S as one of the items they will be covering and i spoke with two T-Mobile reps in stores that said that it would not be covered, this is the main reason i am holding off on getting the phone.
Best of luck to all and i hope none of you need to worry about it anyways!
Best Buy Mobile offers $10/month for any accidental damage including water. NO DEDUCTIBLE, UNLIMITED claims. 48-72 hour rapid exchange process.
does not cover lost/stolen
I purchaed my insurance through squaretrade.com.
I have used them before with no problems on a claim. $100 up front, $50 dollar deductable if you break it.
Best option, as always, is to claim it through your home or renters insurance. It barely touches your policy and is much easier to file a claim, provided you have a solid insurance company.

I'll wait until the 25th. They'll probably release coupons that can get you can extra 10-20% off.

I got it too. No questions asked and no deductible for $10 is alright to me..
I also called T-Mobile to confirm and my rep said yes, my insurance will transfer over to the new phone.
I got my TB from a Verizon authorized store and signed me up for GRIP as opposed to asurion. Has anyone have experiences with grip?
No experience with that particular insurance, but I work for a retailer as well and we offer our own protection and its better imho than Assurion. 99.99 one time fee, no monthly premium, then if you have to make a claim its just 39.99 for the claim and you get a brand new phone over the counter. No Certified Pre Owns, or Like New Replacements. Although you have to come to one of our 700 locations to make a claim on it, not a corp. store. Its very common practice, may I ask what the stipulations of you're protection plan is and the name of the retailer?
Ok so I always get my phone from Bestbuy or directly from Verizon based on online deals or specials going on when contract is up. Since when was Bestbuy pricing 700$ out of contract compared to $569 of VZ? They always when I checked with is every few months very similar in price. Now I have $300 buyback from previous upgrade done few months ago but considering locking in a second line to 4g Unlimited plan before it is too late.
So just curious did the Retail price 3rd party can sell agreement with Verizon change I was under impression to be Authorized reseller unless you were running a valid promotion, special you had to be in similar price range to Verizon?
I wouldn't be complaining normally but to have to cough up $700 for a retail price over Verizon cost of already high $569 seems way out of wack. I know the phones are 4g and high end but man didn't realize 3rd party places that were once better options now don't even try to compete with Big Reds pricing.
Forgive me if there was some post detailing Bestbuy cost going up or possible changes to why Verizon offers lower cost then retailers selling same phones on their behalf.
If you raise enough hell, best buy will match the VZW price. You just have to prove that the corporate store is charging 569 outright.
BBY will price match VZW... Best buy inflates their retail pricing to negate customers from buying it wo a contract(that's where they make their $$)
They will price match the online price or CS price cause they are not the same not a huge difference I just want to know which price to fight for? Is this generally something they are going to be pricks about I mean I have bought the phone I am going to bring back for the Buy Back Credit and purchased Black Tie Protection I can't imagine they would be to stuborn. I just want equal price and have no problem paying 569-599 at all obviously would be minus 300 GC I would get from the Buyback program.
If you were to come into my store and ask for a price match (I work at best buy), and you planned on getting blacktie and buyback, we would match without question. Other stores may be different, but the margin would be made up with those two components.
Sorry I should of been more clear on the phone I am going to trade in I had Blacktie and Buyback. This phone is to lock in 4g plan before July 7th so I would get Blacktie but no Buyback this time and previous phone is 3ish month old Fascinate. I have 2 Pc's, 2 HDTV and like 5 previous phones and everything has been with Blacktie.
I just want to know if I would be better of having proof cause I have no idea what a storefront of Verizons here has for anything showing retail price, but if I have to go out of my way to prove it. Due to BB not matching "online" prices I will cause I sure am not paying extra 125$ for same phone lol.
Really thank you all for advice so far I usually get great people when I work with Best Buy and after all Zagg shields the mobile department has put on my rounds of bad Thunderbolts they know my acount before they even pull me up as to what I have for phones ect. I just know it was like pulling teeth to get them to replace my non-fuctional Incredible after 2 seperate repairs to get a new device and had to talk to store manager before I got it done without a 3rd repair shipment.
Just bring it in the retail pricing from the online (I work at BBY Mobile PT as well) and Id match it
find the kid who hates his job at best buy and he'll price match it without talking to a manager. i work at best buy and do it all the time.

Word to the wise. Don't anyone ever get black tie. Its a scam.
I would generally agree to that last post but in my case because Best Buy has the lemon policy on repairing or attempting to fix issues. I went from Incredible that went 2.2 update came out dropped a packet and caused horrible call quality an hardware / software issues. Got me a $600 equal retail value Giftcard that put me into my Thunderbolt. Generally speaking insurance is never needed but I get it to be safe on my high end phones.
Also had to speak with a manager but the Buyback process and getting into the Charge was a painless experience and they gave it to me for $599 cause they know how much business I do there. Thanks for all the help.
I have a S4 on att and I just ordered my N5 so what do I do about the insurance I have for my S4 through att? Do I just cancel it and if so what is a better option for phone insurance?

I looked into this for a while...
There are a bunch of third party insurance companies like Asurion, Squaretrade, Ensquared, etc. I can't say anything about their reliability but at the very least, I know that the major carriers use Asurion when they sell you insurance. However, the deductible for Asurion is pretty high. Ensquared is probably the cheapest in terms of first payment and then deductible.
