During updating a lot of apps in same time Desire S was stuck and in next few seconds screen became black. It has no response. I can't turn it on. I tried to plug to wall charge - nothing, even no green/red LED blinking.
DS was sent to worldwide HTC by supplier for warranty repair. The answer that I got today is : bootloader file is absent, its avoid warranty case, because only one possible explanation for this - not allowed attempt to update firmware.
Have I any chance to bring my DS to life ?
Thanks in advance.
Have you modified the phone software yourself in any way (S-OFF or rooted?)
Tell us more about how you bought it. For example, did it come as part of a call contract package or did you buy it unlocked outright?
- Steve
No, I didn't modify the phone in any way. Phone was purchased in cellphone shop, unlocked and without call contract package.
Supplier propose me to take Motorola Atrix 4G or HTC Sensation XE in addition of USD 70 (50 euro) or USD 150 (110 euro), respectively.

Ah, OK.
It seems that you would be fully justified in pressing for a repair or replacement.
Had you been here in the UK, I would have suggested that you wrote to the supplier politely explaining that unless they filfilled their obligations under a valid warranty claim, you'd take them kicking and screaming through our "small claims court" procedure. This invariably has the desired effect.
Not sure what options you might have in your country, but in any case if you chose to push the warranty claim, I'd suggest that it's usually most effective put stuff clearly (yet firmly) in writing.
"Avoid warranty" answer was received from worldwide HTC not supplier. Supplier agree to replace the phone but DS is not in stock so he offer to me Atrix or upgrade to Sensation.
But I really like my DS and before I'll take something else I want to know is there any chance to bring back to life DS.

OK, gotcha. Could be worse I guess.
I'm not an expert on boot issues but your DS sounds a bit doomed
Anyone else ?
Anyway, hope you resolve it to your satisfaction!
As I've read here on the forums, simultaneously updating apps from market on a Desire S with faulty EMC chip result in bricked phone. This SHOULD be covered by warranty. Newer market versions don't even update apps simultaneously but take them one at a time from a queue.
You might try the solutions ofered in some topics here but as you described the issue, looks like your Desire is bricked already.

In this case can you advice please what to choose instead : Motorola Atrix 4G or HTC Sensation XE ?

Nope, as from now, there is no way to do it ourselves. You need to get the Emmc chip repaired by HTC

Hi i just buy an htc status (chacha) brand new for $270, but digitizer has dead zones, i can't use the back soft key and some parts of the screen. My very big problem, I'm from Ecuador here theres not tech support for htc, i call htc and only solution was to send the phone to USA (my warranty is valid thru oct. 2012), but i already pay for the unlock code and the importing fees (almost $80), so send it back to USA and bring it back again to Ecuador will be around $130 more at least. So this phone will cost me around $480! My only solution is to replace the digitizer by myself, i try to search some disassembly video but i can't find any. Anyone has take apart this model of htc? plz I'm desperate. Hope some suggestion or if you have some service manual will appreciate.
Thanks a lot...
this is to new model, so it will be hard to find videos and parts. I think, you need to look some cheap or for spare chacha on auctions and do from 2 phones one working.
Well i find the digitizer in ebay, but no luck with the manual or video

I understand your problem and realise you need to do something yourself - however I have been repairing screens all my life and HTC are the hardest. The HTC CHACHA is a delicate phone - yes you can replace the digitizer but this is a long and troublesome path you are taking.
The best way I would recommend is check if Ecuador has any mobile repair shops and get them to do it (but go in person - no posting). If you can't find one that can fix within your range - SENDING TO THE U.S.A IS THE ONLY WAY (UNLESS YOU ASK HTC IF YOU CAN SEND IT TO A CLOSER SUPPORTED COUNTRY).
If you are to attempt it yourself expect no tutorials for another five months or so and even then it's too dangerous.
Thanks for the advice, you right htc is hard to fix. But i have good news the digitizer is working, i dont know what happen, maybe was the charger, do you think was that? I used one from motorola and one from samsung, but since the phone drains the batery i full charge with the cable supplied by htc now this thing is working again. I never will use other charger. Again thanks

Hi,
I think everyone will worry when their device starts warming up,but it is all relative.
40 degrees C may seem hot,but that is actually quite normal.
With ARHD ROMS and the new Faux kernel, you have Thermald installed ,which will halt your phone if it gets too hot, and before it can do any damage.

So even though it gets hot that it feels uncomfortable in my hand, its nothing to worry about? My DHD was over clocked to 1.5ghz and it was always stone cold :/
I just need to be sure before I unroot and s-on the device and contact dialaphone for a replacement which will take about a week or so!

Hi,
Isn't DHD a single core?
I've always had my doubts with these dual core phone, and how they would keep them cool.
Mine gets to those temperatures, but I have been assured that it is all well within the limit.
Even on stock, when I got it out of the box,it was getting to those temps.
And now they are talking about quad cores...LOL
My laptop is quad core with a proper cooling system, and it still gets HOT.
Honestly, there is no rush to send yours back.
If you are really worried, you should at least try another kernel,to see if there is any difference.
Bricked is HERE.
Don't be put off by the name...

Haha, I tired bricked already still the same :/ Bricked, stock and faux all go to around 40-43C when just using the phone, The thing is I asked my friend who has a sensation and he says his doesn't heat up at all!
I even tried underclocking to 900mhz but still very hot :/
Surely HTC wouldnt release a phone that is sometimes to hot to put to my face? lol it only seems to be the bottom half where I presume the cpu is. Only thing i can think of is to try 4.1.7 to see if there were any fixes in that release but I doubt it
Maybe I should have gotten the cheap toy feeling SGSII

Hi,
Just as a matter of interest, did you actually FEEL your friend's Sensation?
What ROM does he have?
Have you tried to copy his configuration onto your phone?
Then you would know if your phone has a problem.
Just a thought...

Hi Guys
Well I got a reply from HTC this morning and it seems the phone shouldn't be getting this hot. They have asked me to send it to them for repairs.
Dear nNik xxxxxxx
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Sensation.
we can arrange for your phone to be repaired. We provide this service for our customers through our Repair Centre in the UK. Please read the following instructions carefully.
We can arrange for UPS to collect your device from any address in the UK, Ireland or any other EU country, from Monday to Friday, 13:00 to 17:00 except weekends and public holidays.
The current time-scale for the repair is 10 working days from when it arrives at the HTC Repair Centre.
If the fault is found not to be covered by the warranty then the repair will be chargeable and a quotation for the full cost of the repair will be emailed to you. Should you choose not to go ahead with the quote; a £20 fee (approx) will be charged for the return of the device in an un-repaired state. This covers the shipping, evaluation, testing of the handset and VAT. If you choose not to pay the quotation then the device will be disposed of after 30 days.
Physical damage and Wear & Tear in the device is not covered under the warranty, and the repair centre may decide that the repair will be chargeable if damage is found.
If evidence of water damage or liquid ingress is discovered then the device will not be repaired. We can either return the phone to you un-repaired (at no charge to yourself) or we can dispose of it for you. It is un-economical to repair liquid damaged phones as the cost to you may be more then the cost of purchasing a brand new phone.
For more information on the Warranty please visit our website at this link: http://www.htc.com/www/support/warranty.html
Please backup your data prior to sending the device to us (if possible.) HTC are not responsible for any loss of data that occurs as a result of the repair.
If the phone has been unlocked please provide a copy of the email or letter from the mobile operator that confirms this. Failure to do this could result in the phone being returned to you locked once again to the network.
By proceeding with the repair you agree to the terms and conditions of the repair service. If you would like more information please follow this link: http://service.europe.htc.com/terms&conditions.pdf
If you would like the phone collected sooner then please call our helpline on 08458900079 (within UK) or on +44 (0)1279 206906 (outside UK) to arrange your booking.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number xxxxxxxxxxxx
Sincerely,
Sid

Hi
I've got one more suggestion.
ADHD roms do not really reach their full potential until you've run three to four battery cycles, and let the ROM settle down.
Give it a few days before you give up on it.
EDIT:
Doh,I see you've already moved on.
Well, see how it goes.

I havent yet I was just testing, im flashing 4.1.7 now..arhd is the reason i got the sensation and not the sgsii
Heres what htc had to say when i asked about safe temp and whether i would need a replacement... As of yet i dont think i have gone past max 45.. Seems to alot cooler now..
Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your Sensation XE.
I understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties.
We recommend 50 degrees and below as being a safe temperature, but if the device is heating up on a regular basis there could be a possible fault.
What I would recommend is to reset the phone if this keeps happening to see if the issue is software related. If a reset does not fix the issue the phone will require repair.
As the phone is new I recommend contacting your retailer first regarding their repair and returns policies.
I hope that this information meets with your requirements, should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Hello, I have an issue where I need to send my HTC Sensation in for repair. However, I had to re initiate S-ON, upon doing so. When I went to reboot, I get a blank screen with nothing showing. I can not even get into HBOOT. I know that if I send this to HTC for repair they are going to see I had S-OFF on this phone, and clockwork recovery. So they are going to charge me for the repair.
Anyone out there have any ideas on how to avoid this at all?
Just to let you know I just seen there was another thread on this and went to T-Mobile and they are sending me out a replacement free of charge except the $5 handling fee. Which is nominal at this point, they even let me use a loaner phone. This might be another avenue that people might be able to persue rather than wait the 6-10 business days for HTC to get done with their phone.

Yup,they are a lot easier to deal with than HTC.I bricked mine on Christmas eve trying to flash an ICS firmware, contacted T-mo and got my replacement 2 days ago.
Got my new one a day later. Thank God that I had insurance on my phone so they replaced it. I told them that an OTA update must have corrupted the Android OS data.

Same boat. ROM worked great... Now I'm bricked. Got my replacement today. Gonna wait a few days before sending bricked one to T Mo... Can they tell if I have S Off? Or do I hope for the best... Also in their terms and conditions they "conveniently" sent me it says " tampering or modifying your device is a violation that directly harms T-Mobile which cannot be fully redressed by money damages, and that T-Mobile shall be entitled to immediate injunctive relief in addition to all other remedies available." Should I be scared to send it back to them...? Lol

Does anyone have any experience with admitting to HTC that they've rooted their phones?
I have a problem where my volume button fell off & they've said if I provide them with some details they'll send me a new one gratis...
However, some of the info they require is Android Version & Software version and I'd hate for them to tell me that as I've updated the phone to ARHD my volume button is no longer under warranty?!
Alternatively can anyone provide me with the latest legitimate Android version number, build number & software number (I can say a different mobile network if this makes a difference as my phone was purchased sim-unlocked in the first place)
Thanks for any help in advance
Some people have had to send in there phones for repair, rooted, and still able to turn on. They got it back no problems, HTC still fixed it and didn't mention the root. When in doubt, flash your stock RUU then reroot later.
It's hardware, not software that you're having problems with.
When I called twice for a new housing, they sent one over to me no questions asked, I just had to send the old one back in.

That much is obvious to you & I but common sense & company policy rarely go hand in hand in my personal experience. I'm encouraged to hear HTC may be the exception though I still don't know why they need my software info given the issue is hardware.
d;ude just look up what the info is suppose to be ruu number and all that... dont say **** about root or custom rom... be smart... give them what your phone should be running and your idei number they dont know nothing dfferent..
I had the same problem. My volum button fell off. I just walked into a customer service center and showed them my phone (rooted with custom rom).
They did not care about my software. They know this is the weak spot of the phone!
I also got a completely new back cover.
(Although because it was out of stock it took them 2 month!!)
Its really hard to find spare parts. Always out of stock
Give them the following numbers:
Software number: 1.73.401.4
Android Version: 2.3.4
Sense Version: 3.0

Technically, rooting means voiding your warranty. Thats sucks if or when you have to send your phone for repairs. They can easily deny your warranty and they absolutely will. LMFAO.

I don't know if they've changed their policy since - but about 2 years ago I sent in my Desire after the screen developed several dead pixels. It was clearly a hardware issue.
I posted the phone in for repair. Later, HTC asked me to pay to fix and return the phone as it was rooted. (was quite a hefty charge too if I recall correctly).
They may have changed since or it may simply luck of the draw whether a tech notices what software it's running.
Edit: was going to send back to htc and hope for a free repair. Accidently did the command of death and now its bricked LMAO!! anyways waiting on unbricking team to make their official release. thanks guys!

hmmm I didnt buy my phone from tmobile though Ill give it a try anyways.. however my volume up button doesnt work at all in the OS
All the more reason to get a replacement. Fyi I didn't buy from T-Mobile either! Your phone is covered by manufacture's standard 1 year parts and labor warranty. You just get it serviced through T-Mobile because it's a T-Mobile branded product. The warranty is 100% transferable.
hmm just got off the phone with them, they said I had to contact HTC directly, and they dont have any "warranty" information on my phone since it was not bought at tmobile.. I bought it on craigslist... but i didnt tell them that..
they basically said they couldnt do anything about it.. = (
Call back and talk to someone else. You unfortunately got a rep that didn't want to do their job. They can look up warranty info by imei number.
They did look up the warranty info, and told me they had no info for it... Just called HTC i think Im going to send them the device and see if they can fix it
Do you have a T-Mobile branded sensation? If yes, then trust me call back and talk to someone else. The warranty is transferable and when T-Mobile does the warranty you don't need to send in the device first because they will send you a refurb unit and return shipping box and label.
