Hi i just buy an htc status (chacha) brand new for $270, but digitizer has dead zones, i can't use the back soft key and some parts of the screen. My very big problem, I'm from Ecuador here theres not tech support for htc, i call htc and only solution was to send the phone to USA (my warranty is valid thru oct. 2012), but i already pay for the unlock code and the importing fees (almost $80), so send it back to USA and bring it back again to Ecuador will be around $130 more at least. So this phone will cost me around $480! My only solution is to replace the digitizer by myself, i try to search some disassembly video but i can't find any. Anyone has take apart this model of htc? plz I'm desperate. Hope some suggestion or if you have some service manual will appreciate.

this is to new model, so it will be hard to find videos and parts. I think, you need to look some cheap or for spare chacha on auctions and do from 2 phones one working.

I understand your problem and realise you need to do something yourself - however I have been repairing screens all my life and HTC are the hardest. The HTC CHACHA is a delicate phone - yes you can replace the digitizer but this is a long and troublesome path you are taking.
The best way I would recommend is check if Ecuador has any mobile repair shops and get them to do it (but go in person - no posting). If you can't find one that can fix within your range - SENDING TO THE U.S.A IS THE ONLY WAY (UNLESS YOU ASK HTC IF YOU CAN SEND IT TO A CLOSER SUPPORTED COUNTRY).
If you are to attempt it yourself expect no tutorials for another five months or so and even then it's too dangerous.
Thanks for the advice, you right htc is hard to fix. But i have good news the digitizer is working, i dont know what happen, maybe was the charger, do you think was that? I used one from motorola and one from samsung, but since the phone drains the batery i full charge with the cable supplied by htc now this thing is working again. I never will use other charger. Remember - Always Use Official or Recommended Chargers - There are different Voltages On Different Ones - It does not matter if they fit or not, And If you have any battery problems visit the link below (it has been discussed already):

I HATE HTC !!! I been buying HTC from the beginning , but now I'm done with HTC ! Besides they make phones slower then the old XDA ones now they all break ! I just bought a HTC TOUCH PRO from ebay ... it worked for a week and after that the microphone died! It sounds only noises in conversation or in recording... Its so frustrating ... so much money for a junk of a phone

It's an eBay sale so warranty could be iffy... Could also be the reason for a dodgy unit...

yeah guys... no warranty..the device worked for few days... i just got another one from ebay.... i hope this works for more then few days... but i still need to repair the old one and the HTC service is far from me and kind of expensive if you don't have warranty so i was looking to buy the microphone and give it to other service to glue it on the board.

Anyway it should still be under warranty as the phone is brand new.
Try to give them a call.
For my phone they came to pick it up at work (I don't spend much time home, so gave the work address :^P)
no warranty? how can someone pay a device over $700 without any warranty...

It seems you had a radio problem, sometimes a rom works with a phone sometimes a rom could not be compatible with the radio you installed. Happened to me on my Kaiser II

You plan to do this repair yourself? I just tonight replaced the front housing on one of my Desires. It was very fiddly but I do stuff like that because I get a kick out of doing it, it was a spare handset that I bought damaged to test out rooting and try different ROMs, and learn to pull it apart.
Since this is your personal handset, I agree ... spend the $50 with HTC and get it done properly.

Did you succeed in changing your speaker? Which piece of hardware did you choose? I think my speaker will die soon, too..
During updating a lot of apps in same time Desire S was stuck and in next few seconds screen became black. It has no response. I can't turn it on. I tried to plug to wall charge - nothing, even no green/red LED blinking.
DS was sent to worldwide HTC by supplier for warranty repair. The answer that I got today is : bootloader file is absent, its avoid warranty case, because only one possible explanation for this - not allowed attempt to update firmware.
Have I any chance to bring my DS to life ?

Have you modified the phone software yourself in any way (S-OFF or rooted?)
Tell us more about how you bought it. For example, did it come as part of a call contract package or did you buy it unlocked outright?

No, I didn't modify the phone in any way. Phone was purchased in cellphone shop, unlocked and without call contract package.
Supplier propose me to take Motorola Atrix 4G or HTC Sensation XE in addition of USD 70 (50 euro) or USD 150 (110 euro), respectively.

Ah, OK.
It seems that you would be fully justified in pressing for a repair or replacement.
Had you been here in the UK, I would have suggested that you wrote to the supplier politely explaining that unless they filfilled their obligations under a valid warranty claim, you'd take them kicking and screaming through our "small claims court" procedure. This invariably has the desired effect.
Not sure what options you might have in your country, but in any case if you chose to push the warranty claim, I'd suggest that it's usually most effective put stuff clearly (yet firmly) in writing.
"Avoid warranty" answer was received from worldwide HTC not supplier. Supplier agree to replace the phone but DS is not in stock so he offer to me Atrix or upgrade to Sensation.
But I really like my DS and before I'll take something else I want to know is there any chance to bring back to life DS.

As I've read here on the forums, simultaneously updating apps from market on a Desire S with faulty EMC chip result in bricked phone. This SHOULD be covered by warranty. Newer market versions don't even update apps simultaneously but take them one at a time from a queue.
You might try the solutions ofered in some topics here but as you described the issue, looks like your Desire is bricked already.

Nope, as from now, there is no way to do it ourselves. You need to get the Emmc chip repaired by HTC

Hey guys i was facing touch problem on my phone. The problem started nearly 4 months ago, but at that time it wasnt that much of a problem!
I had to sometimes swipe 3-4 times in various launchers to scroll pages/had problem in typing too(tried various keyboard but the problem was still there). And then my phone used to get very hot even in normal use along with poor network reception! (The phone restarted once because of the heating problem i guess while i was watching videos at 50% brightness)
I gave the phone to the svc, they kept me waiting for almost two weeks, and then when i called them they informed me that since parts arent available with the co. they mostly will replace the cell!
Later i went on to give all accessories, i asked that if parts(lcd and motherboard) would be available in future, would they just repair the cell and give it to me? to which they replied that the product is discontinued and there's no stock of parts available for this phone!
Now my questions are:-
1. Will they give me another model since i dont want a phone whose spares arent even available with the co.
2. Whats the warranty duration on the replaced cell (same model/other model)
3. Some ppl on fb said they got refund for their phones! When i asked about refund they simply refused it. and later said i wont be getting another model either! I called the call centre, got my case registered, now waiting for their reply.Anyways i dont think they will provide a refund/other model.
So is there anything i can do? I still have a month and half warranty period left. Its been nearly 20 days and now i am really tired of waiting!
Who shall i contact to for getting help regarding this problem!
And lastly sorry for the long post, its just that its really frustrating for me to wait this long and stay without a proper cell!

Hi! Whew just finished reading your post.. i think you should get some serious talk with the manager in the svc you sent your phone. Have you tried e-mailing them with your complaint? Don't go too soft on them! You're the customer and you have every right to get the right information from them. I don't exactly know the answer to all your questions cause I don't work for Samsung but you should talk to them about it ASAP. Complaaaain

Finally after some trying they decided to give me full refund!
TBH do not bother to call at the toll free number, they usually have no idea abt what to say.Enjoyed using this phone, now will be buying galaxy nexus/atrix 2/sensation xe. Any other suggestions are welcomed. Btw price range is around 18-21k, will be buying without bill(grey market).
And yeah also liked infuse 4g/arc s! So really confused there!
I have 2 MyTouch 4g slides, which both died within months of getting them...the first one I knew why, but the second I have no idea why.....
Anyway, I'm wanting to sell on ebay (listing for parts) but am not sure what to do about my personal info that may be on there. Obviously I have removed the sd cards, but since they will not turn on, I can't Factory/Hard reset either of them.
Any suggestions would be great- either where to get them fixed, how to remove personal info, etc......

Everyone knows the one that was supposed to be mailed to me never ( or hasn't yet in months ) arrived to me.
I took the motherboard out of my personal DS ( in hopes the new one would arrive soon ) and gave it to an overseas user who's phone bricked and HTC refused to help us and wanted to charge him like some stupid amount to just look at it and tell us what we already knew.
I'm not mad about the way it worked out, because I got a Nexus 4 and he got ( or is getting ) a newish phone and an extra Anker.
That's how I am I like to help people (even though I'm short to the point on here and get called a D**K for it). I've helped a total of 3 users from outside the US from different Countries that used this device.
I'm also NOT trying to get any type of handout at all and am willing to pay if the price is right and there is a slight chance I can make something work. If not I got a KB slider etc flex and all for anyone on here ( only if I end up not getting these)..and just to clarify these are the HTC MyTouch 4G Slides and not the off brand? (Not sure of the brand so off brand)
