So I got my sensation xe today, charged it up and then started using it, about 50 apps installed, 5 sms, 20mins of music and some web browsing..my phone has lost 47% charge in about 1h50m and temp hit 42c when I checked. Should I send it back or will this stop? Phone only calls down once o take it outside on the cold.
It's rooted,s-off and running arhd 3.6.7

Hi,
I think everyone will worry when their device starts warming up,but it is all relative.
40 degrees C may seem hot,but that is actually quite normal.
With ARHD ROMS and the new Faux kernel, you have Thermald installed ,which will halt your phone if it gets too hot, and before it can do any damage.

So even though it gets hot that it feels uncomfortable in my hand, its nothing to worry about? My DHD was over clocked to 1.5ghz and it was always stone cold :/
I just need to be sure before I unroot and s-on the device and contact dialaphone for a replacement which will take about a week or so!

Hi,
Isn't DHD a single core?
I've always had my doubts with these dual core phone, and how they would keep them cool.
Mine gets to those temperatures, but I have been assured that it is all well within the limit.
Even on stock, when I got it out of the box,it was getting to those temps.
And now they are talking about quad cores...LOL
My laptop is quad core with a proper cooling system, and it still gets HOT.
Honestly, there is no rush to send yours back.
If you are really worried, you should at least try another kernel,to see if there is any difference.
Bricked is HERE.
Don't be put off by the name...

Haha, I tired bricked already still the same :/ Bricked, stock and faux all go to around 40-43C when just using the phone, The thing is I asked my friend who has a sensation and he says his doesn't heat up at all!
I even tried underclocking to 900mhz but still very hot :/
Surely HTC wouldnt release a phone that is sometimes to hot to put to my face? lol it only seems to be the bottom half where I presume the cpu is. Only thing i can think of is to try 4.1.7 to see if there were any fixes in that release but I doubt it
Maybe I should have gotten the cheap toy feeling SGSII

Hi,
Just as a matter of interest, did you actually FEEL your friend's Sensation?
What ROM does he have?
Have you tried to copy his configuration onto your phone?
Then you would know if your phone has a problem.
Just a thought...

Hi Guys
Well I got a reply from HTC this morning and it seems the phone shouldn't be getting this hot. They have asked me to send it to them for repairs.
Dear nNik xxxxxxx
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Sensation.
we can arrange for your phone to be repaired. We provide this service for our customers through our Repair Centre in the UK. Please read the following instructions carefully.
We can arrange for UPS to collect your device from any address in the UK, Ireland or any other EU country, from Monday to Friday, 13:00 to 17:00 except weekends and public holidays.
The current time-scale for the repair is 10 working days from when it arrives at the HTC Repair Centre.
If the fault is found not to be covered by the warranty then the repair will be chargeable and a quotation for the full cost of the repair will be emailed to you. Should you choose not to go ahead with the quote; a £20 fee (approx) will be charged for the return of the device in an un-repaired state. This covers the shipping, evaluation, testing of the handset and VAT. If you choose not to pay the quotation then the device will be disposed of after 30 days.
Physical damage and Wear & Tear in the device is not covered under the warranty, and the repair centre may decide that the repair will be chargeable if damage is found.
If evidence of water damage or liquid ingress is discovered then the device will not be repaired. We can either return the phone to you un-repaired (at no charge to yourself) or we can dispose of it for you. It is un-economical to repair liquid damaged phones as the cost to you may be more then the cost of purchasing a brand new phone.
For more information on the Warranty please visit our website at this link: http://www.htc.com/www/support/warranty.html
Please backup your data prior to sending the device to us (if possible.) HTC are not responsible for any loss of data that occurs as a result of the repair.
If the phone has been unlocked please provide a copy of the email or letter from the mobile operator that confirms this. Failure to do this could result in the phone being returned to you locked once again to the network.
By proceeding with the repair you agree to the terms and conditions of the repair service. If you would like more information please follow this link: http://service.europe.htc.com/terms&conditions.pdf
If you would like the phone collected sooner then please call our helpline on 08458900079 (within UK) or on +44 (0)1279 206906 (outside UK) to arrange your booking.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number xxxxxxxxxxxx
Sincerely,
Sid

Hi
I've got one more suggestion.
ADHD roms do not really reach their full potential until you've run three to four battery cycles, and let the ROM settle down.
Give it a few days before you give up on it.
EDIT:
Doh,I see you've already moved on.
Well, see how it goes.

I havent yet I was just testing, im flashing 4.1.7 now..arhd is the reason i got the sensation and not the sgsii
Heres what htc had to say when i asked about safe temp and whether i would need a replacement... As of yet i dont think i have gone past max 45.. Seems to alot cooler now..
Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your Sensation XE.
I understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties.
We recommend 50 degrees and below as being a safe temperature, but if the device is heating up on a regular basis there could be a possible fault.
What I would recommend is to reset the phone if this keeps happening to see if the issue is software related. If a reset does not fix the issue the phone will require repair.
As the phone is new I recommend contacting your retailer first regarding their repair and returns policies.
I hope that this information meets with your requirements, should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

I think i just bricked my phone. I am trying to return to S-on and after following all the instructions in the main sticky, i wrote the SUPERCID back to tmobile, and put in the writesecuflag 3 command, and rebooted the bootloader. Now the phone will not turn on at all. Won't power on regular and cannot turn it on into the bootloader. When i plug the phone into the computer QHUSB-DLOAD comes up in the device manager as to what it is saying it is attatched as. Adb shows no devices and RUU's cannot find the device. Omg i really hope i didnt hose this phone.

Just got off the phone with HTC. It is still covered under their warranty. Hopefully since all my void stickers in good standing, I have no physical damage, was able to get the CID back to Tmous and the write secureflag3 went through, there will be no reason to deny it. Here is hoping! I think EXT4 recovery is still on there though. Hopefully it will be so bricked that they will have to reset it and reload the software to be able to do anything with it
Hope you manage to get it fixed!
A question, I have yet to root my XE, but is SUPERCID a must on a sim free phone if you want to flash roms?
the fact is that if it is so bricked that it won't turn on at all they won't check it further. many members achieved to get a new phone as replacement
Just make sure you tell HTC you are the original owner and didnt get it from craigslist. Also DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES Mention any hacking forums like XDA,or ROOT, Just claim that it said "an update was available" so you chose to update and the battery died.I've had free repairs under warranty by using that same advice, A friend of mine mentioned root on his nexus one and they charged him for repair even though it was a month old as he voided the warranty

I definitely didnt mention xda or flashing roms or anything, and I told them i received it as an anniversary gift (even though i really did get it from craigslist). Told them i rebooted the phone and it just never came back on. Which really is what happened while leaving out a few details lol.
I wonder what would them HTC guys think if they are already among us
same thing happened to me the other day on my evo 3d...gonna send it in to htc as well...hope they won't know...what are the chances of them getting the phone to turn on??

From everything i read online it really seems hit or miss depending on the technician you get. More often than not they seem to let things slide even if it seems obvious that they should have been able to see it was rooted etc. Here is hoping . I'm gonna send it out tomorrow and will keep this thread updated with developments if anyone is interested in how it went. I have read some HORROR stories about people sending there phone to HTC and it become missing in action for MONTHS. I really pray to christ that does not happen to me.
O/T a little bit, but how come with just about any other "thing" in life a warranty is good and is tied to the object and not to the person. Even though i got this phone off of craigslist, why should that have ANYTHING to do with it. The phone is the phone and the warranty is the warranty regardless of whose possession it is in. I just don't think tmobile should be able to do that. Also i think it's BS that if you buy a brand new phone and it breaks 2 days later, they give you a refurb and not a new one. How do they get away with this ****!
i think im gonna take my chances as well...the person i talked to at htc did say that if the damages were caused by me then i would have a choice to pay them to fix if not i would have to pay $35 to get the phone back...so this could end up costing the shipping to send phone and the $35 to get the phone back.

Just wondering how this has progressed. Did you send your phone to HTC? Did they say what the potential repair costs could be?
Well i sent it out on 12/21 and they received it on 12/28. On the tracking website, it says "In repair". From experience, if it is going to have any issues or gonna charge you any money, it says under review until you have spoke to them and made arrangements or paid them. One thing that is pissing me off good is that every day, the day it says it was received is changed. So everyday i have checked, it went from saying received on 12/28, to 12/29, to 12/30, and now 1/1. So i dont know if that is just the way the system works, or if they are trying to sheist me and take forever and a day like some of the horror stories i have read. Not really sure what their is to do but send a replacement since it is hard bricked and cannot be resuscitated even with professional tools from all the research i have done online. In the meantime, i bought a galaxy s 2 and am LOVING it, except for the lack of development in comparison to here in sensation land!

So my wife is out of town and i just got a frantic call from her on her moms phone telling me that her Inspire is constantly been shutting down.
We live in Texas and she's visiting family in Ft. Lauderdale since before Christmas. She's said since she's been there that the phone has been acting wonky, but starting today the phone will not stay powered on when not on the charger.
When it's on the charger she says she has 80% battery life, but when she unplugs it and tries to do something with it the phone powers down.
She's done the battery pulls, she's cleared the cache and removed unnecessary apps. I'm really not sure what to tell her other than go to AT&T and get a different battery, and fi that does't work - plug it into your laptop, copy all of your pictures and necessary data then do a factory reset.
Any other advice from more experienced members?
Sounds like your on the right track. You could try downloading the ruu from HTC as well and do a clean install. If all else fails just do a warranty.
I had the same problem. It was the battery, bought a new stock HTC battery and it works perfectly don't try a reset or any of that. You will lose you're stuff, tell her to just charge it until she can get it replaced I kept mine on charger for 4 days until I bought it and got it in the mail. Phone works perfectly now

We had to get the screen replaced so AT&T wouldn't help her because hey could tell it's been opened
It was opened about 4 months ago, and has been working fine until she went to Florida. She has had battery issues though since she go the device back in February.
She said the AT&T person tried to do a factory reset and that "it wouldnt take" which i found was odd. More than likely the AT&T person was doing it while the phone was on, rather than doing the volume down + power button to load into recovery and do it that way.
Anyone know why a factory reset wouldn't go through?
Selecting it through the phone just boots into hboot to finish the process, but if the phone is freezing and powering down it would probably keep it from completing. Try it through hboot. Did the att guy at least test a different battery in the device? Some of those att employees really shouldn't be helping people troubleshoot. Too bad they aren't all as educated as zel.

They didnt even entertain the idea of a different battery. They took the battery door off and could tell that it had been opened. Right then and there they basically sent we can't help you because it's out of warranty and HTC will charge you full price for a new phone, but then whispered to her that she could go to a local shop.
Needless to say i was a little pissed that they wouldn't even let her try a different battery.

That is one of the risks of Modding your phone or someone else's. All support now relies on the phones owner.
As for the rep. He couldn't do anything without possibly losing his/her job. I used to work for them so I really can't blame the employee.
Now for her prob the only thing I would suggest is that she get another battery which may or may not be the issue.
Why was it opened? If you don't mind me asking?

Tx Redneck is correct. As I stated the screen had to be replaced.
I understand about the rep not being able to do anything because of potential job loss, but does that mean they can't even let her borrow a battery to test it?

By the rules as much as I hate to say it. Yes. If they see that the phone was modded they cant even allow the use of another battery for testing. I normally kept a few extra personal batteries to help people out but had to do it off the clock. ATT is very strict about it.
I was written up once when I was helping someone with an issue and my boss looked over my shoulder and noticed the sticker was missing. HE asked me if I noticed and I said yes i did but it had nothing to do with what I was helping with. He took the phone, handed it back to the owner, said sorry there is nothing we can do for you. Then sent me home and when I came back in I was written up with a final warning.

Hey all,
I've been a long time lurker on these forums and I've noticed quite a few people upgrading to the Sensation. From what I can tell, there's a way to get a FREE Sensation by sending your mt4g to T-Mobile for repairs since HTC no longer makes the mt4g. Is this correct? I asked a T-mo customer service rep and she said it isn't true. Of course, she could have been told to tell customers that so we don't all suddenly break our phones and have a new more expensive phone given to us.
If this is true, how can I return a phone after I've rooted it? I've seen various guides on how to return to stock and put s-on back. Would this be enough to get passed the voided warranty issue of a rooted phone?
What if my mt4g is actually in 100% working condition? Is there a safe way to damage it just enough to warrant a replacement?
Thanks, all! Sorry if this was posted in the wrong area.
Becareful because sometimes they send you the Mytouch.. LG version
Yeah, I read about that too. I would tell them up front that I will not accept a downgrade but require a phone of equal or greater value. I'm used to crappy service from these big companies and have found that if you make a big deal out of something, they'll do anything they can to shut you up.
only a few lucky people have gotten the Sensation as a replacement... :/
it kinda depends on whether you get a good rep or not... if you get a bad one.. well good luck with that... lol
as far as bricking... i guess you could always flash a Radio or some system file not made for this device... but be careful with that
Thanks for the reply, S, but I never mentioned bricking in my post lol.
So it looks like the only two devices that are given as replacements are the Sensation and the LG mt4g, right?
Now to my final question; how do you purposely cause your phone to malfunction so T-mo will have to replace it while not voiding your warranty? My guess is to press one of the hardware keys hard enough so it gets stuck. Probably the track pad since I've read reports of people getting theirs stuck. Worst case scenario here is that your phone has no track pad, but who uses that on their mt4g anyway?

Uuuh, that's what saranhai was referring to. Reread his post.
be careful, I think in your situation it would be best to report it lost. Personally, my wife lost her phone and they were going to send us an LG phone, but I said no way. It is the MT4G or a better phone. I also told them that my contract is up in a few months and will leave if i get an LG. They said they will call me back today.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you get charged a little over $100 if you report your phone as lost or stolen?

Flashing a PD15IMG.zip from another device doesn't require root access...
Plus I turned in a dead phone that was rooted. They never found out or if they did... they didn't care.

Lol. Assuming always gets me too.
Hypothetically, you could TRY getting, say, a radio from a different HTC device and renaming it PD15IMG.zip and placing it on the root of your sd card. Boot into bootloader and it will check for the file and ask if you want to flash it. Flashing the wrong radio will totally screw your phone over. No root needed. However, I can't condone insurance fraud. That's highly illegal
Id imagine they'd send you an HTC mytouch 4g seeing as it is still sold on there website so no use In destroying your phone unless you have a bad emmc/screen

Unless they're in a good mood or something they'll send a sidekick 4G (A pink one at that) and I've gone as far as demanding to speak to a supervisor to no avail and then I see 3-4 guys getting sensations, ugh. Hahah but yes flashing a radio doesn't require root neither does pulling the battery a few times while doing that.

You are correct, and this is the reason phones and plans cost so much! I'd the phone is fine then why duck it up and become a criminal because you want a new phone! I wish I knew your name and number so I could call and report you!

I agree with you man.
Honestly, i don't understand why you want a new phone in the first place, the MT4G is a great phone and probably performs as well as the sensation anyway...
And Nic, you're right, they offered my a sidekick 4g and then they got upset that i didn't want a downgrade lol....
I have the bad emmc but good screen (which makes it all better)
I would like to see a "good " screen, because I've owned 4 "bad" ones, & they have all been brilliant. In fact, I can't see it getting any better...

Am i?
I've never done this, and I had the same view as you expressed here. But after reading of so many people thinking of doing this, and no one expressly trying to stop this, I figured why not join the bandwagon.
If you can't beat em, join em, especially if there's no opposition. Anyway, relax. This was mostly theoretical and I've decided to wait on the HTC One for my upgrade. Or maybe even something even better that may or may not spring up by then.
I doubt they'll send you a sensation...
A couple of months ago I got a replacement phone sent because the proximity sensor on my old mt4g would cause the screen to go black during a call and I would not be able to get it to turn back on unless I turned the phone off. So I sent off my old phone and got a replacement mt4g.
I'm pretty sure they still have them in their warehouses.

So because I live in an area where there are dope dealers I should sell dope too? I guess keeping good values when other dont is just too much for some people... I refuse to let myself be brought down to,that level. I find it more gratifying to work my ass off and save a little to get the thing I want/need, rather than lie cheat and steal! Its not a shot at you, but at all the people that have been doing it. As this make everything worse on all of us!

I have an HTC Shift that is now a replacement phone Sprint sent because the other Shift bricked on a OTA update. The phone itself looks brand new. (we have had it since Apriil) The problem with the phone is that it will never charge the battery. I actually have 3 spare batteries so in total 4 batteries are charged to 100% but as soon as I put them into the Shift device the battery status will range from 0% to 8% an occassionally will charge to 12% but no higher. If I take the battery out and put it into another HTC it will show 95% or better as charged - to be clear this is the same battery that just seconds before registered 12% or less.
I've tried everything. I've changed Roms (the good thing about this is that I can tell you the ins and outs on about 12 different Roms and kernels now) I've changed up kernels. I installed Bettery Battery, battery calibration tools, spare parts...booted it up empty, let it stay off and "charge" all night, on and charge all night, factory reset, everything but RUU because it just won't do it and HTC update, won't do that either because of the battery being below 30%.
OK, so you say - take it back to Sprint and get a new one - can't do that because I can't unroot it with the RUU as it still shows s-off -
I'm brain dead on this one.
I'm not a newbie at this. I've rooted several phones, HTC, LG, Palm Pre, even turned the Palm Pixie to a wifi goddess in it's day by switching out the radio(you know). I've jailbroke the Iphone and Ipad. Rooted my Thrive and turned a pandigital into a sweet little android.
I don't want to take the phone back like it is. I want to figure out what the heck is the issue. (i know...i know) When I plug the phone in the led comes on as though it is charging but it never charges...any ideas? you know it's probably something simple and I've just fried my brain at this point. Any ideas? Anybody??
Thanks in advance for any input, ideas or helpful tips!

Excellent advice... FAIL... COME ON MAN...
Make sure you are wiping the system partition as well... Going from sense to aosp needs a thorough system (not data) wipe... To wipe system, it's located in mounts and storage in recovery if using cwm...

My girlfriend's phone has the EXACT SAME ISSUE. No idea how to fix, I figure there's a contact or sensor hw at fault. It's not ROM specific, flashing a new rom won't make a diff. As soon as the gf or I get a new phone, I'll mess with the device itself.
Best advice - return it!

Been there.....not fun at first, but once CS knew I knew more than they did it was no longer an issue to have my account credited for the service I WASN'T getting. Most ever off was 165 from a 180 dollar bill

Well that's a lot of money. When i was buying the Evo LTE i didn't know i would have to give them my phone and so when she asked for it i was like ummm... I need to go home and do something real quick. She gave me a weird like and ask what i need to do and told her that i can't say. I think she knew i was rooted cause she told me i won't get in trouble but i just was like nope i don't want a flagged account so i'll be back in 30 minutes. She gave up at that point

How I got stuck was I was having like extremely poor service and was waiting on a call back from them, and through reading what people said about them never calling I thought I was safe, about 30 minutes after I flashed cm7 a rep called and wanted me to go into epst and at that time I was so new to being a rooted user I had no idea it wasn't in aosp. So I tried the ## code and when she asked what happened I said nothing she said ok hang on while I flag your account. My first words to the rep was are you fu**ing kidden me! So I stabbed back by tethering to my ps3 while playing Modern Warfare lol

So...unroot before taking. As it says, there's an issue with reading the battery correctly. It's charging the battery, because when it goes into another phone, it shows the correct percentage.
It -has- to be a hardware issue. Unroot, RUU, whatever... there isn't an easy fix for this without messing with the hardware (which will likely result in ruining the device).
If the flex cables were shot, you'd all recommend the same thing. What's the difference with this?
There is a newer and easier way to unroot HERE
Hi
About a month ago my senny fell out of my training bag, and spent a night out in the rain. When I got it back, it seemed to work fine, until I discovered a few things:
I had to charge my phone 3 times a day
I could not hear the other person when I spoke to them in the phone
It does random shutdowns/reboots about ten times a day.
I have a insurance that follows my sim, and I'm thinking about returning it. If I return it, do I have to return to stock/s-on, and if I return it, what will they do with it? Fix it? Replace it? Send me another phone?
Thanks!
If they discover it's rooted they will deny your claim and blame rooting for the problem. So you have to go back to stock. Someone more knowledgeable about returning to stock can help you with that .but I'm positive it must be done .unfortunately .then it's up to your carrier to decide what to give for replacement. It could be another sensation, your sensation repaired, or another device they consider comparable. Likely it will be another sensation. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!

I'm pretty certain they will not cover an damage whatsoever if there is evidence of water damage (meaning that little white moisture indicator turns red)
Doesn't matter what the damage is, they will deny warrenty due to water damage.
So unfortunately, you are probably screwed. You can call HTC or your phone company and ask (I'd leave out the part about rooting, even though there are many many reports of peopl ewho've sent a rooted phone in who got warrenty repairs no questions asked, but not with water damage) and quite frankly that's probably your best option right now. Get REAL answers, not our guesses.
But be prepared for them to say you have to buy a new device or pay for repairs out of pocket.
Sorry, bro.
Actually I had the same problem and By myself can change the digitalizer and the upper electronic without any problem, the process is so easy and Youtube is full of how-to videos.
I can reapir my sensation for 70 euros.

I read on the internet that the insurance covered water damage, as long as it was not thrown in the sink or something.

Oh!? Then dont worry about what I said. If the sticker is white, its not water damaged as far as the warrenty is concerned.

All it will take is a simple check of the boot loader and you're screwed. Besides, if they replace it or change the motherboard it'll be son anyway

After backing up data, just flash an RUU and follow the s-on guides carefully. I've done it several times for warranty repairs and never had a problem.
