I have a Samsung Infuse and previously had Froyo installed using DxPro desktop launcher. Back when I had that, I was able to long tap on an item and it would bring up a context menu, and one of those options was "Application Info". It would bring up the screen below: (continue past screenshot for question)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
NOW I installed Serenity 7 onto the phone, and am NOT using any form of desktop launcher, and when I long tap an item, it just goes into the "move/trash" mode and I don't get a context menu to bring up the "Force Stop" or "Uninstall" options. I REALLY liked these options because if I tried an app and I didn't like it, just uninstall it right there from the app rather than opening the market.
NOW... I use "Toggles Lite" and it brings up a menu of currently running processes in it. If I click the process, I THEN get the above screenshot menu, but I liked running it right from the app itself.
Two part Question:
1) Is this lacking functionality now due to no launcher, or the different ROM, or what?
2) Is there a way to get it back(may be answered in the first question), or perhaps install a 3rd party app that performs the same way?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide!
Menu, Settings, Applications, Manage Applications.. from there, select the application you want to manage and it will display that screen.

Well first off, thank you, that is another way to get to it which may help.
However, I'm looking more specifically to be able to access it from that icon when I'm on the home screen via a long tap. I can access it through my "Toggles" program, but would ideally like to from the Home Screen immediately after I decide I don't like the app, rather than having to navigate through menus, then select the app from a list.
Pretty sure that's a launcher feature, ADW launcher has it and apparently the launcher you were using on froyo has it too. Just download one of those and set is as your default launcher.

you could also use this app called "rom toolbox" its pretty sweet got a whole bunch of crap you can do it won't come up via long tap but when you pull it up you can see all running processes etc..

Now forgive the possible newbie question, but can I install a launcher on top of S7?
I thought S7 is basically that.... or is S7 a replacement to Froyo and I can treat it as my "standard OS"?

This also may be something asked before, but is there a list of launchers(as I'm asking this, I'm about to Google it, but thought I'd ask anyway)
Serendipity 7 is the rom ( custom OS) you flashed on your phone, a launcher is an alternate home interface that you can run on top of your rom, that's exactly what you did on froyo. I don't know of a list but there aren't that many, the most popular launchers are ADW and GoLauncher, Zeam Launcher (both in the market), the customization for these is virtually endless lol give one of those a shot.
Hit the thanks button if I helped

So in terms of an equivalent to make sure I understand... (I know what a launcher is, but I guess I'm asking if Froyo is an equivalent to S7 in terms of an "OS" or ROM)
Froyo: Rom
DxPro: Launcher
S7: Rom
GoLauncher: Launcher
I actually downloaded GoLauncher a little while ago before you posted this, and there is so much to do lol

The launcher from the Tmobile G2 now has 7 home screens, and the hot keys ( Phone and browser buttons) are customizable. The only problem is, the apk that allows you to customize the hot keys force closes every time you try to open it. Is there a way a developer can fix the apk so it doesnt force close?
Im attaching the 2 apks
Also, dont say to just get launcher pro or adw, i have them both already
That would be awesome I hope somebody can fix the .apk
i dont mean to sound like a noob, but how do you install the launcher2 apk?
What is the point of this when we have LauncherPro and ADW which allow FULL customization?
I wonder does this include the new Google voice widget?

No, you have to get the new Google Voice from here for that. Note: The dialer button doesn't work with Sense ROMs.

Anyway, i for one hate ADW AND LauncherPro. I think they make the phone look like a fake chinese knock off. I'd take Sense over anything but the AOSP Launcher which i am currently running over the newest Bakedsnack, it's like Ava's V10 Froyo that never happened. .
Good job OP, i appreciate your contribution to the community.
Honestly, ADW is almost an exact replica of this, just with tons more features.
This launcher is nice, especially the 3D drawer (better than LauncherPro's 3D drawer because of the smoothing on the top and bottom rows), and may be the best "stock" launcher.
I'm a LauncherPro Plus guy, but I'll have this one running alongside it when the orientation issue and hotkeys are fixed up.
Edit: Whoops, there's no orientation issue...I forgot forgot that its a feature in both LP and ADW, haha.

maybe ADW does but launcher pro does not, in launcher pro you can customize the icons in the dock and have your own images there to make it look however you want, my launcher pro i customized to make it look almost exactly like the Stock froyo launcher, it looks great.

ok so this is a little guide on how to get the 'cover flow' style homescreen. first off, i think some of you (ok well a small minority) will be happy to know that it doesnt require root. all you need is launcher pro or adw luncher and multipicture live wallpaper. now there is a drawback to this method, which is you cant change your wallpaper unless you edit the .psds provided. oh and just for the record i am currently using miui rom but it is not needed. ok so here we go.
1) download the coverflowwallpapers.zip containing the wallpaper for each page
2) download either adw launcher or launcher pro from the market and apply as default home screen
3) get rid of the dock bar and icons from the launcher. it would be a good idea to set a swipe gesture to show the app drawer so you still have access to all your apps. i would also recommend changing the number of home screen rows to 5 to compensate for the row lost due to the thumbnails.
4) download MultiPicture live wallpaper from the market.
5) go to select wallapaper/live wallapers/then select multipicture and then press settings
5) using the images you downloaded from this post and change the wallpaper for each page. (seeing as im a nice guy i numbered them for you)
6) finally, got to the transition type and choose your favourite one. i chose to go with wipe as it makes the thumbnails look like they are rotating but some of the others look great too.
so there it is. hopefully this tutorial isnt too hard to follow. also if you have your won ideas/modifications, post them here cos i wanna see them too
heres a crappy video of it in action
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx0uGYOUWR0
thanks for doing this! trying it now.
2) download either adw launcher or launcher pro from the market and apply as default home screen
How'd you make it default?
Hit the home button and then a prompt will show your available home screens and launchers. Check the radio button on the bottom of the pop up and select adw or launcherpro. You can clear the "default" if you decide to do something else and not use LP or ADW.

The way I am doing it is by replacing the icons with a blank icon. Essentially the icons are still there, but invisible and I can still assign a swipe up gesture if I wanted to.
You probably don't want to use the term "cover flow" as I would be willing to bet Apple has a trademark on that term.

sorry I simply don't have the time to do that. this setup was initially made for me but some people asked me to share how I done it so I did. I knew not everyone would like the wallpaper and/or icons which is I why I uploaded the .psd file. there's only so much I can. also it doesn't seem like many people are interested but that's cool as i know this kind of setup is not for everyone.
Don't be discouraged. I've liked this setup since I first saw it--it's very different. If I hadn't just rehauled my own homescreens, I'd be slavishly copying yours.
I do have the time and tools to make something out of your .psd too, so maybe when I get home (i.e. to the PC with photoshop installed) I might try my hand at it.

That should help with the changing lockscreen. I did it on the fire itself without using adb though, just use your root explorer app, navigate to /data/data/com.android.settings/files/wallpaper, and disable write access. Anytime you want to change the wallpaper, though, you have to enable write access, change it, then disable.
If anyone knows a better way, feel free to chime in

I, too, love Go's transparent widgets. The scrolling calendar is great.

I've recently been running Zeam on CM7. I like the minimalism and found it to be really zippy. No issues so far.
Is the Go Launcher EX smooth on the KF? I am gonna flash CM7 soon and wanted to integrate a launcher into the rom I will flash. Also, I used in on the stock, but sometimes the icon labels were cutoff/the Go Launcher EX menu was being clipped, I guess due to the bottom bar on the KF, is anyone else getting these problems?

Indeed. Plus, you can stack the dock with unlimited app icons negating the need to fiddle with folders or the default app drawer, which is kinda lacking IMO. I put my 20 or so most used apps in the dock and run altdrawer as the app drawer since it is more configurable. No more delays waiting for the home screen to re-draw when closing apps.
Just upgraded to ICS on my AT&T phone, and shortly realized that the widget descriptions in the list do not show up (thus making it really hard to figure out what each is). Holding my finger on an entry does make the text visible, but trying to peek under my finger to see what it says is still annoying.
I've even switched between several different launchers (ADW, Nova), and there is no difference.
Any help? Thanks.

It's not ICS. It's the launcher. The stock ICS launcher will not allow the “press and hold" to select widgets. You have to go to the app drawer on the stock launcher.
I guarantee that if you switch to the stock launcher, the option won't even be there. It's one of the things that they removed in ICS.

Well, I see now that the stock launcher doesn't allow you to press-and-hold to select widgets. But it seems to be simply a matter of fonts/colors that would fix everything. All other launchers I tried allowed the action of the widget to be added this way, and the descriptor is there and shown when the screen is pressed. It just seems like the default color is the same as the background, so you can't see it.
Oh well, thanks for the info.

You would probably need to decompile the launcher apk and edit the background color... what launcher do you prefer? Maybe I'll look into it as I happen to be on ICS for the time being.

Edit: then again, maybe it's something in our framework-res.apk- i'll look into it a bit
Edit#2: yep, thinking it's some leftover stuff in the framework-res.apk... before I had a chance to dig through and try to change it, I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21101599 - works fine with ADW. Just remove the apk from the zip, put on your sdcard, click on it and install as a normal app.
Yeah I think it's system related altered as the function he's speaking of works on my skyrocket running apex launcher.

I'm having the same issues. Wouldn't mind the stock ICS method of going to the Widgets tab except there is no way to quickly go to a widget that happens to be at the end of the list (e.g., a widget starting with the letter Y or Z). You have to sit there paging repeatedly until you reach the end. I was looking for a way to quickly search for a widget http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927036 but doesn't seem like that's possible.
I don't know why they switched to this method of widget adding. Sure it's nice to be able to see the widget graphic but that paging gets tedious. Many launchers allow you to do a vertical continuous setting for the app drawer. Could they have a widget tab that does the same thing? Then we could quickly zip to the end.
Using the "App Widget Picker" app mentioned by alteredlikeness seems to be a great workaround for ICS on this phone (thanks!) and doesn't suffer from the same font issue.
I tried a several other launchers, and I have two observations for anyone else curious:
The "Widget Picker" is pretty much required if you're using ADW or Nova as a launcher (and probably others) and you want to be able to add widgets by press-and-holding the home screen, because there is no way to do it from their App drawer (there is no Widgets tab).
If you're using Apex, then you still need the Widget Picker for the same reason UNLESS YOU ARE ROOTED, then you can also have the option of adding widgets the "official" way from the app drawer. Apex popped up a message to that effect when I tried to add a Widget from that tab in the App drawer.
So has anyone come up with a workaround for those of us that aren't rooted? I'm using Go Launcher and I have this issue when viewing widgets.

I didn't try it with Go launcher, but you shouldn't need to be rooted. See previous posts. Just install the app "App Widget Picker" and you should be fine. When you go to add a widget, then make sure you select that app instead of the default. Worked for me.
I've haven't had any success using the app widget picker. When I long-press for widgets I do get a new widget list with white text and a black background. When I select a widget, app widget picker crashes. I've tried rebooting and it still crashes. I'm open to suggestions of how to try to fix this.
Apex Launcher alone now has the long-press for widget function, with no text/color issues..
Sent from my phone's mind
Hmmm. I'm apparently having the same problem. Honestly, I switched back to the stock launcher a while ago and haven't been using my own suggestion for this app. I can't seem to get it to work either, and I'm out of ideas. I just tried switching back to Nova launcher and ran into a lot of crashes with that, too.
Thanks for checking. Let me know if you come up with anything.
Guys I personally think that this is an Atrix 2 ICS software issue. It always happens and happened to me when I had my A2. On my skyrocket I use Nova and don't have a problem with the press to hold widget function. Works great, and no force close issues.
I'm in the same boat. It would be nice to have a widget picker that worked properly on ADW.
:update:
If you are rooted use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780828
I finally got it to work, but I had to root my phone to do it (used the steps mentioned in the first thread of the Development forum).
In order to install any of the previously mentioned replacement Widget pickers, it needs to be installed into /system/app, and you needed to be rooted to do it. Simply installing the .apk the normal way causes it to crash when you pick the widget from the list.
Needless to say, it was a lot of hoops to go through just for a press-to-hold widget picker, but it now works perfectly.
Hax Launcher is a new take on the conventional Android launcher.
The Android Launcher game is dull, only a few launchers out there really redefine the way the Android launcher works. We are one of those. Our goal is to provide something fresh, but familiar enough to fully utilize from the moment you pick it up. Hax Launcher is still early in development, and features are being added all the time. Let's highlight a few differences between Hax and other launchers out there.
Instead of having lots of information spread out across multiple screens, we try to provide you with a more focused layout, targeting whatever you want to access the moment you want to access it.

Hax Launcher uses a custom system of LivePanels. These are third party applications that provide a simple widget-like behavior in the launcher's Main Menu. This is a totally new open system that any developer can tap into. There are multiple examples on GitHub, and we provide instructions for developing on Hax's LivePanel API on thehax.org.
Instead of your choosing apps to place on the dock, Hax uses a more familiar approach of putting your recent apps along the bottom, similar to a taskbar on a PC. Also like a PC, open up the Main Menu by pressing the circular start button in the dock. And you still get your chosen apps in the Main Menu, now in a scrollable list of app panels. Just drop an app on the dock at the bottom of the homescreen. If you want to remove apps from the main menu, swipe them left or right, off the list.
You can kill any running apps in the dock by swiping the icon upward. (Root may be required for full functionality. See Advanced under Launcher Settings to enable.)
Push notifications are built in to facilitate instant updates (and maybe a chat channel in the future...).
Universal search is built in. Nevermind Google's crippled search (and thanks a heap for that, Apple). Search the web, contacts, and installed applications right from the Main Menu. (This is still a very early feature and will be expanded in the future.)
Check out SimpleWeatherPlugin, one of the currently available LivePanel plugins.

Same here, looks interesting but it says it's not compatible with my device. I have a photon on 2.3.5 hybrid rom. It's the any other way to get the apk?

I'm runnin 2.3.6 and I would really want to play around this launcher. So far based on the comments on the play store, its ICS or higher :/

Play store says it is 4.0.3 and above. Bummer
I could not add a BeaWeather widget. I selected it but it never showed up in my screen. I was able to add a PhoneWeaver widget with no problem.

That just sucks. Oh well. Anyways, if the dev would possibility try and make it work on GB, i would install this in a heartbeat. I always wanted a desktop type launcher on android.
