Native Launcher from G2 with 7 Home Screens/customizable Hot keys - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

The launcher from the Tmobile G2 now has 7 home screens, and the hot keys ( Phone and browser buttons) are customizable. The only problem is, the apk that allows you to customize the hot keys force closes every time you try to open it. Is there a way a developer can fix the apk so it doesnt force close?
Im attaching the 2 apks
Also, dont say to just get launcher pro or adw, i have them both already

That would be awesome I hope somebody can fix the .apk

i dont mean to sound like a noob, but how do you install the launcher2 apk?

What is the point of this when we have LauncherPro and ADW which allow FULL customization?

I wonder does this include the new Google voice widget?

No, you have to get the new Google Voice from here for that. Note: The dialer button doesn't work with Sense ROMs.

Anyway, i for one hate ADW AND LauncherPro. I think they make the phone look like a fake chinese knock off. I'd take Sense over anything but the AOSP Launcher which i am currently running over the newest Bakedsnack, it's like Ava's V10 Froyo that never happened. .
Good job OP, i appreciate your contribution to the community.

Honestly, ADW is almost an exact replica of this, just with tons more features.
This launcher is nice, especially the 3D drawer (better than LauncherPro's 3D drawer because of the smoothing on the top and bottom rows), and may be the best "stock" launcher.
I'm a LauncherPro Plus guy, but I'll have this one running alongside it when the orientation issue and hotkeys are fixed up.
Edit: Whoops, there's no orientation issue...I forgot forgot that its a feature in both LP and ADW, haha.

1. I didn't read his full post.

3. How do ADW and LauncherPro make the phone look cheap when they can look EXACTLY like the AOSP launcher?

maybe ADW does but launcher pro does not, in launcher pro you can customize the icons in the dock and have your own images there to make it look however you want, my launcher pro i customized to make it look almost exactly like the Stock froyo launcher, it looks great.

Very Cool thanks
So I flashed the launcher, rebooted and deleted launcher2 and everything is running really smooth man. I also haven't had 1 force close on the launcher yet, had a couple a day with the launcher2. Runs really smooth and love that I don't have to deal with the delayed scrolling anymore in the app menu! Great job man!
Where Can I get google's original source code for their apps?
I'd like to start making my own modifications (have basic java knowledge) but not sure where to start. I downloaded Launcher2 from cyanogen's github but it appears to be referencing missing classes. any held is appreciated. thanks
I have a req for some programming assistance. I like to mod a launcher to have a continuous scrolling (same as in GDE or home+).

Do any of the pro's here know how this is done?
15/2 updated launcher, faster than before
Installed this launcher, deleted my launcher2(after backing up in multiple ways of course), but all good so far.
Had one stall out which rebooted the phone, but honestly not sure what it was from.
I was creating a "call" Shortcut via better cut, but also still had launcher2 installed at the time. my 25% setCPU profile was just turning on as well so many things could have caused it.
Great work so far.
*Update* No problems since, this was likely an unrelated problem

i hope someone is able to help you with this mate- maybe the person who first modified the G1 launcher, whose name escapes me at the moment (I know rogro took over after a while but he now has GDE)...
By continuous scroll you mean the fast swype of whatever they call it so you can swipe from first screen to eg. 4th screen with a fast swipe? Or a continuous move from 5th screen around the corner to first screen?
Both of these would be awesome!! lol.... plus folders in the launcher to clean things up would be great.
you are doing a great job mate. thanks
thank you!

Zeam - Home Replacement

I know a lot of you guys are like me and rarely venture outside of this sub-forum. I found this home replacement earlier today, and I'm pretty impressed. Figger I'd give you guys a heads up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664149
I like it.. And it works on our phones perfect so far, with jit enabled.
EDIT:: It doesnt not support live wallpapers... But I still might use this as my default.
I dont use sense, since I have jit on my phone.
Not to hijack the thread, but have you also given GDE a whirl? Especially on an OC'd 2.1....SCREAMS. A+ for cube and fade as well....I toggle b/t Helix and GDE as my favorites.
Gave Zeam a whirl, and it's decent....but 9 screens is definitely a lot, especially if you're like me and really only use 3 lol...

I usually use 5 screen.. Helix supports 11 i think.
But ill check out gde
EDIT: helix seems to be the only launcher then i have ran jit files on without a problem. Zeam just froze on me.
so how does this perform compared to sense?

Shouldn't be an issue w/ GDE. And LWP's work flawlessly, though I would advise when setting up GDE for the first time, leave the transition on "normal" rather than "high".

It was MUCH faster then sense.. Set it as defualt, and end the process of your other launcher and then it was very snappy for me.
Home switcher is the easiest way to switch between homes. And I used gde in the past with jit on damage v1 and it worked great.

ohh and one more question; is there a bookmark widget like sense has? the closest thing ive found is the one that comes with Home++....are there any that dont require a specific agternative home?
wow.thanks for letting us know.installed it.this thing is superrr smoooth.love it.thanks
Beautiful widgets does full screen animations when you click on the weather button, but not when coming out of lock.

gayyyyyyy
any word on the bookmark widget?
I installed Zeam and gave it a whirl. It was Ok, but a bit laggy for me. I haven't found anything faster than Helix so far.
If Helix would allow for 1x1 widgets in the "dock" then it would be PERFECT...I want to be able to see my mail/text/VM unread counts and the dock doesn't allow for that, only shortcuts.
Otherwise yeah, Helix has been the fastest home I've used.
EDIT: Zeam crashed with JIT enabled on Fresh 2.0d, not sure why. Tried GDE and WHOAAAAAA...I'm sold. GDE it is.

NICE! Thank you! Are you running ADW on your phone? I noticed on your home screen you don't have the standard 5 icon dock. Always fun to try something new!
You bet!
yep, ADW ex is my go-to launcher. I like launcherpro and golauncher as well, but I still find ADW ex to be the most stable and fastest home replacement for my needs.
Nice - simply elegant in it's style, much like how a black and white photo stands out in a sea of color confusion.
I like how crisp monochrome-type color schemes are, and nothing is better then something like that.
Nice background, btw

Looking forward to seeing what else you cook up!
thanks for this. I like it so much better than stock...
When I installed this, it got rid of my status bar entirely... I wiped, re-installed ROM and then installed this again and it did the same thing...
I have Pauls' de-odexed ROM on my device, I'll try downloading and installing the non de-odexed version I suppose. It seems like it's working for everyone else so I may have some sort of quirk? Any suggestions? I'm wiping cache/dalvik, too.

totally agree.. I was using golauncher when I first got the phone and it is so much better than it was on my G2. always felt like it was a bit too resource hungry even for that phone, which is by no means a slouch.
to be honest, there are really only two main reasons why I prefer adw over the other home replacements: the 3D vertical app drawer is buttery smooth and works in portrait and landscape, and david1171's minimalist themes are perfect for my setup. so yeah, mainly aesthetics. performance-wise, especially on this phone, I don't think it makes much difference which launcher you use.

[Q] How Do I Get to This Screen???

I have a Samsung Infuse and previously had Froyo installed using DxPro desktop launcher. Back when I had that, I was able to long tap on an item and it would bring up a context menu, and one of those options was "Application Info". It would bring up the screen below: (continue past screenshot for question)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
NOW I installed Serenity 7 onto the phone, and am NOT using any form of desktop launcher, and when I long tap an item, it just goes into the "move/trash" mode and I don't get a context menu to bring up the "Force Stop" or "Uninstall" options. I REALLY liked these options because if I tried an app and I didn't like it, just uninstall it right there from the app rather than opening the market.
NOW... I use "Toggles Lite" and it brings up a menu of currently running processes in it. If I click the process, I THEN get the above screenshot menu, but I liked running it right from the app itself.
Two part Question:
1) Is this lacking functionality now due to no launcher, or the different ROM, or what?
2) Is there a way to get it back(may be answered in the first question), or perhaps install a 3rd party app that performs the same way?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide!
Menu, Settings, Applications, Manage Applications.. from there, select the application you want to manage and it will display that screen.

Well first off, thank you, that is another way to get to it which may help.
However, I'm looking more specifically to be able to access it from that icon when I'm on the home screen via a long tap. I can access it through my "Toggles" program, but would ideally like to from the Home Screen immediately after I decide I don't like the app, rather than having to navigate through menus, then select the app from a list.
Pretty sure that's a launcher feature, ADW launcher has it and apparently the launcher you were using on froyo has it too. Just download one of those and set is as your default launcher.

you could also use this app called "rom toolbox" its pretty sweet got a whole bunch of crap you can do it won't come up via long tap but when you pull it up you can see all running processes etc..

I thought S7 is basically that.... or is S7 a replacement to Froyo and I can treat it as my "standard OS"?

This also may be something asked before, but is there a list of launchers(as I'm asking this, I'm about to Google it, but thought I'd ask anyway)
Serendipity 7 is the rom ( custom OS) you flashed on your phone, a launcher is an alternate home interface that you can run on top of your rom, that's exactly what you did on froyo. I don't know of a list but there aren't that many, the most popular launchers are ADW and GoLauncher, Zeam Launcher (both in the market), the customization for these is virtually endless lol give one of those a shot.
Hit the thanks button if I helped

So in terms of an equivalent to make sure I understand... (I know what a launcher is, but I guess I'm asking if Froyo is an equivalent to S7 in terms of an "OS" or ROM)
Froyo: Rom
DxPro: Launcher
S7: Rom
GoLauncher: Launcher
I actually downloaded GoLauncher a little while ago before you posted this, and there is so much to do lol

How to mod iLauncher

So I love using different launchers such as Launcher Pro and ADW. I have stumbled across a luancher called iLuancher. Now if you don't know what iLauncher is, it is a home replacement that looks just like ios for iPhones. Now before everyone gets all ups and daises about IOS being on an Android os, I do have to say that I don't really care. :victory: I love Android but I just wanted something new home screen for my phone. Anyways, here is a review of iLauncher.

So I really wanted to change the dock and the page indicators to compete with other home screens such as MIUI or even iPhones on Deviantart or other Android sites, but I could not seem to find a way to mod the launcher. There was one about modding Espiar Launcher, but the steps would be too complicated to do to the average person who searches How to change dock or How to Mod iLauncher and I don't really like Espier Launcher as much. (And I could not install APKTool to save my life.) So anyways I did a little more looking on how I could find this out and I finally have the solution.
