ok so this is a little guide on how to get the 'cover flow' style homescreen. first off, i think some of you (ok well a small minority) will be happy to know that it doesnt require root. all you need is launcher pro or adw luncher and multipicture live wallpaper. now there is a drawback to this method, which is you cant change your wallpaper unless you edit the .psds provided. oh and just for the record i am currently using miui rom but it is not needed. ok so here we go.
1) download the coverflowwallpapers.zip containing the wallpaper for each page
2) download either adw launcher or launcher pro from the market and apply as default home screen
3) get rid of the dock bar and icons from the launcher. it would be a good idea to set a swipe gesture to show the app drawer so you still have access to all your apps. i would also recommend changing the number of home screen rows to 5 to compensate for the row lost due to the thumbnails.
4) download MultiPicture live wallpaper from the market.
5) go to select wallapaper/live wallapers/then select multipicture and then press settings
5) using the images you downloaded from this post and change the wallpaper for each page. (seeing as im a nice guy i numbered them for you)
6) finally, got to the transition type and choose your favourite one. i chose to go with wipe as it makes the thumbnails look like they are rotating but some of the others look great too.
so there it is. hopefully this tutorial isnt too hard to follow. also if you have your won ideas/modifications, post them here cos i wanna see them too
heres a crappy video of it in action
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx0uGYOUWR0
thanks for doing this! trying it now.
2) download either adw launcher or launcher pro from the market and apply as default home screen
How'd you make it default?
Hit the home button and then a prompt will show your available home screens and launchers. Check the radio button on the bottom of the pop up and select adw or launcherpro. You can clear the "default" if you decide to do something else and not use LP or ADW.

after downloading a new launcher from the market, press the home button and it should give you an option to which launcher you want to go to. check the make default option and then press the launcher you want.
ok, how do I get rid of the dock bar and how do I set a gesture for getting it back?

The way I am doing it is by replacing the icons with a blank icon. Essentially the icons are still there, but invisible and I can still assign a swipe up gesture if I wanted to.
You probably don't want to use the term "cover flow" as I would be willing to bet Apple has a trademark on that term.
2 things :
1. first and foremost, thank you for actually listening to us and making this available for us to use.
2. since no one is really taking the initiative can you make several different walls and icons for us?
Thanks,

sorry I simply don't have the time to do that. this setup was initially made for me but some people asked me to share how I done it so I did. I knew not everyone would like the wallpaper and/or icons which is I why I uploaded the .psd file. there's only so much I can. also it doesn't seem like many people are interested but that's cool as i know this kind of setup is not for everyone.
Don't be discouraged. I've liked this setup since I first saw it--it's very different. If I hadn't just rehauled my own homescreens, I'd be slavishly copying yours.
I do have the time and tools to make something out of your .psd too, so maybe when I get home (i.e. to the PC with photoshop installed) I might try my hand at it.

Well that was a waste of $3.00...when I try to edit an icon I get the following message.
Unable to edit shortcuts for Android Home, if you are editing Open Home, you MUST install Open Home first. The easy solution is just uninstall BetterCut and then reinstall it (without uninstalling Open Home)
I do not have open home. I am just trying to edit my icons.
BetterCut is 1.99, does not require open home. Not sure what you're referring to.

$1.99 plus tax. When I run the program and select create short cut that is the message that I get.
I get the same message when trying to use bettercuts. Quick question are you using launcher pro or adw launcher?
I have the ADW Laucher and used that but got that error. I also used HTC Sense and got the same error.
for those of you getting that error, you have to add the shortcut as an activity (give it a minute to load the activity) then select the one you want. Bettercut doesnt play that nicely with Sense, but you can get everything to work.
Thanks for the reply. I did not know that you had to create them new. I thought you could edit the ones that you already had. I have created the new ones and just deleted the ones I did not want. Love the icons.
Ok now I have created new icons and when I try to use them I get the message the linked program is no longer installed on your phone....I long held on the main screen selected short then picked better cut then selected activity and scrolled down until I found messages and that is the one that I used. I just clicked on change icon and picked a new icon. What am I doing wrong?
for the apps that it gives you that message (its something to do with HTC programs) you'll have to install folder organizer lite. Use better cut, select other shortcut (or whatever the option is) then select folder organizer item, then go to apps and select the app you want. You'll then be able to select the icon and it should work. a lot of hassle i know...but it works!
Thanks alot. Worked perfect with the exception of Messages. I go through these steps and after I create the shortcut and go back to the main screen the new icon is there for like 3 secs then it reverts back to the orignal one.
new addition, the GRFXP version of the DroidX wallpaper!
enjoy!
Man I love that background thanks alot.
Silly question, but which home screen replacement is it that you're using in your pics?
OK guys, if you havent heard of the New LG Optimus phones Series that just came out in korea and Might be here soon in the USA,
found some apks & other things from the original "LG Optimus Z phone" first phone
to launch from the Optimus Series
looks like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
so i play around with the apks, ( launcher and widgets ) and it work perfectly
on the evo (not sure if it works for other phones )with no editing necessary,
THE GOODS
-this launcher makes the phone look a little like the HTC sense cuz of the bottom dock , lets you drag any icons from your menu to the dock.
and a Samsung Galaxy Launcher feel because of the dots on top for amount of screens you have.
-It has a new way of controlling your apps in your menu which i havent seen in many other android phones out ( maybe its just me ), which lets you organize your application on your menu as "categories" or "group" , which its really cool and you can drag and put it anywhere in the menu you want.
THE BAD
- Only lets you have 5 to 7 screens only, and it cant let you have less than 5 screens (which sucks)
Some Other Goodies That Work
-World Clock widget
-Analog Clock widgets ( 8 of them )
-Calendar Widget
-Memo Widget
- Home Selector App
-LG Wallpapers
THINGS THAT NEED TO BE FIX
-Launcher works normal and you can play around with it and no problem but one bug that i wish someone (DEV) to fix is that whenever you open a application and you try to go back by pressing the home bottom on your evo it "Force closes", THE SAME WHEN YOU Launch the "Home selector app" and you pick "LG as your Launcher" Sometimes it "force closes", from there everything else works perfectly and if someone could fix this problem than i might make this my default launcher
- and a way to customize the icons as shortcuts or other way, & drag it to the dock ( not sure if theres other ways ).
but for now ENJOYYY IT AND PLAY AROUND WIT IT AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK????
*****Make sure you download the LG HOME & HOME SELECTOR apk first than download the widgets to make it work******
do you have a bookmark widget?
awesome! hopefully one day HTC lets you use their widgets with any launcher
thanks for this. good eye. ill be working with it.
I might be missing something but did you not include the clocks?
I might ne missing something too... where is the download link
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
This is a very handsome launcher, on par with Sense, totally destroys Motoblur and Touchwiz
Those clocks are part of the Widgets. Which is the zip file And yes all the links to download are there in the post.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Nice find!! But I too cant find the analog clock widgets, only the world clock widget.
Some things Ive noticed:
1. These widgets work with other launchers which is nice!
2. In the world clock app, I cant seem to delete Seoul as a city.
3. Default Categories in the laucher can only be renamed, not deleted.
4. The notes widget only lets you have 1 note.
p.s. Im not complaining at all! These are very nice additions to android. Hopefully there are some more widgets coming from LG!!
Edit: Ive noitced that in the screen shots you provided, the world clock widget has a settings button. Mine doesnt, is that where the option to load the analog clocks is?
How do I actually install this launcher?? I want to know!!!
Hm, that actually looks really cool. If a Dev could fix the force close problem I REALLY might use this as my default launcher...

i was able to install the widgets no problem. but the other files show as .bin something... the widgets are really cool but i really do like the launcher.
I don't know if this was said but the bottom tab is like the vibrant dock/tab you need to have the app draw open and drag the icons down to the dock from there.
This is seriously great.
I like 3 screens but this may replace ADW :gasp:
Good find!
Lots of FCs when hitting home from another app.
To install just rename to an apk extension.
Seriously lol how do I get to the analog clocks I've installed and downloaded everything and I can't find them
MY MISTAKE, yea i did forget to put the analog clock widgets sorry , its been updated so download the widget zip pack and its the first apk name as "analog clock apk" .
gonna have to admit, I installed this on my install of cm nightly. I'm really getting into it.
I'd love to see some interest in figuring out how to fix the force closes though. I've looked at my logcat and haven't really come up with thing anything (I'm novice at best though 8P)
Thanks to the OP for the find!
Thanks for the downloads, I just read a review of the device and was hoping someone else was interested in the launcher. Can't wait to use it on my Captivate.
Hopefully it to get noticed by someone who can perfect it to get rid of any FC's.
So Since launcher pro doesn't really lend itself to being completely switched to the HTC Sense layout (though it's doable), and I prefer being able to have more than 3 items on my dock anyways, I decided to make a skin Based on The Sense bar that works more in the launcher pro environment. the borders between buttons have been removes, and there is less curve, so more icons will look ok on the edges. Still I usually have to scale down any icons I use though. Anyways, here's some screenshots.
The dock was made based on this file Credit to the original author.
I have included a few of the wallpapers I made that go well with this theme, and the original HTC Sense wallpaper scaled for the DX.
I HIGHLY recommend "Wallpaper Set and Save" to apply wallpapers, as it doesn't resample images at all, and gradients will still look smooth.
I am using Webst3r's SenseX 2.2 beta theme for the notification bar and stuff.

Also I am on 210 display density using LCD density changer.

Some of the launcher icons included are from scratch, some were modified from launcherpro's default icons.
This one is using the Labradorite.png wallpaper that I made, and the homescreen switchers for two of the shortcuts.
UPDATE V02: All the same icons the LP has by default are included in this in a form factor and style to fit.
The zip file includes a PSD file for the icons I have made already, in case you want to see my scale and make your own icons.

damn that looks great. actually tempts me to finally go through with deodexing (makes me hella nervous).
only the notification theme needs deodexing. the LP part will work fine without.
Thanks btw!
Looks great May use it on my N1. Shouldn't be an issue.
Thank you sir im gonna use this on my droid
Going to be updating this in a few minutes with all of the icons that launcher pro has, in form factor for this dock.

haha yea i know, but i liked your setup so much that i went ahead and deodexed because i would like the same exact thing on my phone.
this is where you installed the theme from, right?: http://alldroid.org/default.aspx?g=posts&t=770
right now im on the early leaked froyo, is that what you're using? a lot of ppl have posted recently saying they're getting stuck in bootloop after trying to install the SenseX theme and i think it may be because of the OTA Froyo update. so being on the leaked froyo i'm hoping this theme still works. i'll go ahead and apply the theme based on your response.
well against my better judgement i went ahead and installed the SenseX theme lol. i only installed services.jar and framework-res.apk since i'm gonna be using your LP dock and didn't want the reskinned widgets. worked great, looks great. thanks a lot!
thanks, again!

1. Download the files
2. copy all the files to your SD-card
3. once installed launcher-pro press the menu key and select "preferences" --> Appearance Settings --> Dock background --> custom --> select the "dock" folder you previously uploaded to the SD-card and select the only file which is there: Sense-esqueDock.png
4. Long click somewhere in the dock for changing a shortcut --> decide which shortcut you want to use --> custom icon --> select one of the images you previously uploaded.
5. play around with the settings if you want to have scrollable dock: press the menu key and select "preferences" --> dock settings --> Number of docks and eventually --> Enable loop scrolling.
Hopes this helps..

I might be late to the party but here we go anyway:
HTC Evo: Invisible App Launchers (Ninja Apps)
The Video Tutorial:
The Text / Image Tutorial:
What you will need:
- An HTC Evo (probably works on other phones, but I don't care about other phones)
- A Custom Launcher Program (Launcher Pro & ADW EX are what I have found this to work on)
- A Transparent Icon (You can download this one)
- A Wallpaper With App Images built into it (You can use this one)
The process:
Here we have our main screen...you guys are lucky I just switched to the cm7 RC1 and did a full wipe otherwise you might have had to wait for the apk release.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Basics first, we need to switch to a wallpaper that has App images designed into it...the one I have is really nice but there are others out there. Look.
After that we will switch to the first screen we will be adding our hidden launchers too. On this screen you will long press to bring up the "Add To Home Screen" selector. Select the "Custom Shortcut" and then choose "Pick Your Activity." From the next screen you choose what kind of Activity you want, an Application, Music Playlist, etc...After making your selection. Choose ok and your launching icon will be added.
Repeat the above step until your icons cover the launching area of your desire. You can go into ADW or Launcher Pro settings and edit the number of columns and rows on the screen. This will help somewhat with making icons cover the icon area from the wallpaper. For mine I left it at 6 rows and 4 columns.
After all your icons in place it is now time to make them transparent...Long press over the icon and in ADW you will select "Edit." press the icon in the edit screen and choose the transparent icon you downloaded earlier in the tutorial. Repeat this process until all of your icons are transparent.
YOU'RE DONE...
Some tidbits and problems you may run into:
- They are kind of invisible but I still see the icon text... You need to go into the settings for your Launcher Program and select "Hide icon Labels."
- I can't get the icons to fit right over the images... This is not an exact process and will requires some trial and error, as well as, tinkering on your part. Some things you can adjust to help this: Adjust your wallpaper to different sizes and display areas, Adjust the amount of columns and rows displayed on your screens.
- Where can I find more wallpapers like this? My best advise is to look on the internet, it's how I cam across it. I do make custom wallpapers, but, they are not free ($1.99) donations.
If you have any more questions please post them and I will address them as timely as I can.
this is awesome thanx
Umm, there's nothing new about this. Lots of people have posted themes that use this method. I've been doing this since last summer. This might be useful as a tutorial on the basic setup of this method. Also, of course it will work on any phone. What is the apk file going to do? Maybe I'm missing something...
great
Wow! I hadn't heard of this before, but i love the idea and the tutorial. THANKS!!! I'm gonna have to scour for more wallpapers. Is there anyway to take the wallpaper you have in a layered version and remove a few of the images and swap in a few of my own?? ex. i would take out the facebook logo and put a cartoon pic of my wife/kids for my quick dial apks. etc... anyway, thanks for the heads up!!
adam

Wouldn't the definition of a donation be giving to a public and/or charitable cause? You aren't offering the wallpapers for free to the community, then allowing people to donate to your cause. If that isn't the case, it sounds like you are charging for a service, not encouraging a donation? Unless you plan on offering the wallpapers to all once the initial request for a custom donation inspired wallpaper is received?

I've been looking also for something like this for quite some time also, as I've been using the blank icons with wallpapers to some extent already, just not all over. Just along the edge like this:
The full setup is attached in the Scrolling 2.0 Theme in my sig which also has links on how to set it up from the original author. I also created some wallpapers other than the honeycomb one. PM me if if you would like to check them out.
Its hard to locate wallpapers with the icons pictures built in as I'm not sure what to search for exactly or what the "official" name of this type of wallpaper/setup is.

I could be wrong about what he's using, but you can achieve the 4 day weather forecast like that with the Beautiful Widget's Beautiful Weather Widget. You just need to download that skin, and then disable todays current weather.
I achieved the same widget look using the Beautiful Weather Widget in the screenshot above. Just changing the skin (the skin you would be looking for to achieve that effect is called BrushedInk&Black), hiding the background, and hiding the current weather. Beautiful Widgets is a paid app, but its worth it for the couple bucks it costs, it looks great and is highly customizable.
Is there a way to stretch the news @ weather widget so it completely fills out the screen horizontally? Here's a screenshot taken on my n4: http://imgur.com/7GzoAO2
I want the widget to be one cell wider, but it's not resizable. Any possibility?
I think you would have to use a different launcher.

Yes it does, as long as the widget in question supports it, and the News & Weather widget does support resizing.
Long press it, release and you'll see the edges are now highlighted; drag the dots to resize.

You need the paid version to resize the icons.
Long-press the app drawer icon to change it to the flat white version.
Also, the Search Bar can be set to the same size if you play around with the number of rows.
