Screen has a blue tint normal? or defective? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Ever since I've fired up my SR the screen has a blue tint compared to my infuse. I thought both have the same screen? I was wanting to know if this is just the way the SR screen is or is mine defective? I'm getting ready to root next weekend so if it's defective I want to exchange before i root. I have searched for something on this but only found threads that talk about the lines in the screen not the blue tint. If I missed a thread can someone post the link.

Nobody has noticed this on their SR?

Just use screen tuner or whatever its called and lower the blue

Havent seen the blue tint but i also have the infuse and when i turn up the brightness to full my skyrocket is still no where near as bright as my infuse.

Might just be your phone.
Mine is normal and has not tint to it.

Thanks guys I'm going to swap it out this week

I see it, I've seen a lot and they all have it..

My Skyrocket also has a bluish tint, most noticeable when viewing from an angle. I didn't notice it at first, but it became very apparent when I compared it to my old Atrix 4G. I've seen videos on Youtube where they also mention the blue tint when compared to the previous Galaxy S2.

Read the whole thread. Basically you have 3 options:
Stock: Dark grays are color correct, medium grays are off and whites are WAY off.
Calibrate the whites: Whites are correct, medium grays aren't too bad, Dark grays are way red.
Calibrate the mid grays: Dark grays are a bit off, Medium grays are right on, whites are a touch blue, not too bad.

Light bleed

So my first Transformer had minor light bleed along one edge of the screen. If I were to gently twist the tablet the bleed would fluctuate. I returned it and found that I had the only Transformer in my area so I could not get a replacement. I ended up ordering online last night.
My question is: Do all it these things have minor light bleed? If not, what are the chances my next one will have it? Or better yet the chances of me finding a remedy?
Can a few of you comment on your experiences with your own tablets please? The way I checked for it was to cover the camera sensor and take a picture. Turn the brightness all the way up and go into a dark room to look at that all black picture I just took in fullscreen mode.

My first two have had more-than-minor light bleed. I should have my third on Monday. If that one has light bleed I'll start to consider giving up on the TF.
All of them have more or less light bleed I think. Mine also have some. You can see it at the bootscreen with the asus logo.
light bleed on ips screens are very common..
I have gone through 3 of them and they all had some light bleed. I don't believe anyone that says they don't have any. They just haven't maxed out brightness, put on a black wallpaper, and gone to a completely dark room.
i have a very minor light bleed- not enough to even worry.
You can check by using the nook book app and seting a book to night read mode.
Did not want to worry about sending it out to take a chance on getting another with minor light bleed or even worse light bleed. as well i had not other probs with it so why chance it.
That doesn't mean anyone else's bleed is not worse...so it is a case by case. choice.
good luck.
I guarantee you your next TF will have some light bleed. Whether it is better or worse, is a different story.
Thank you for all of the replies. I may consider the galaxy 10.1

It is not the fact that it is an IPS screen, but the fact that it is Edge-lit to keep it thin/cheap.

Very much so. Guys...seriously stop whining about the light bleeding. It is not that important. 99% of them do this no matter what tablet you use. So just deal with it and use your new toy.
I don't have any light bleed on my tf. I'm in the UK. I must be lucky !
it really does depend on the amount of bleed though. The one I had was very severe on the bottom (in landscape). It didn't have to be dark at all to see it.

Streaky screen

When looking at light backgrounds on low brightness levels, does anyone else's screen get somewhat streaky looking? Just faint vertical splotches all over any light area. Goes away at 25%+ brightness.. Defective LCD?

Better look a tit with a SEM.
Are you talking about like flickering lines? I've seen it a couple of times. Might be kernal related.

It's not an LCD; it's AMOLED, which is a totally different tech. Most Samsung AMOLED displays seem to exhibit this if you search around (e.g. Engadget's Nexus S review). Nothing you can do about it, and a replacement will probably have it too. My Cowon S9 even has it.

I had 2 fascinates and had the same issue. I'm guessing since the screen is organic it changes color over time, or maybe 2 screens made at different times just have different hues....
Mine has a noticeable greenish tint next to my wife's. I considered trading out but then who says the next one I get wouldn't have some other defect? I just write it off as 'adds character'.
Very common for any type of display. Thats why there are such extensive color/gamma correction features built into LCD TVs, though people rarely take advantage of them. If we had some sort of gamma tool for Android you could remove these variations fairly easily.

I suspect that Voodoo Color, if it worked on the Charge, would be able to remedy this. I have no idea if Voodoo Color for the Charge is under development or has been scrapped though.

Imosyen's kernel has bits of voodoo color built in.
It's definitely possible to have the full mod available for us. In fact it's probably on its way.

[Q] Are there any OLED friendly themes?

OLED screens blow away LCDs in almost every way, except for one, longevity. The blue emmiter subpixels wear faster then the others. Static images especially ones using blue subpixels can damage your screen.
I notice that most themes use loads of blue everywhere. That is also the color which burns in the quickest on OLED screens. Also static images like the battery, wifi etc at the top are always there. This also can result in screen burn. Unless you want your screen to start to look like an old Pac-Man arcade screen care should be taken.
Since this is the Infuse section and everyone has an OLED screen has anyone made a theme using colors with as little blue as possible (white uses blue sub pixels so that don't count). Colors with mostly red green mixtures are the most OLED safe. I wouldn't mind if those static indicators on the top at least were all in yellow, red etc and at a lower brightness than the rest of the screen.
Idk about you but my screen IBM's super Amoled + not oled ....

I have a few rom threads on here so if you want the LCD density clearer...go into the build prop and change it to 200 or 190... or flash obsession with the red, purple, yellow themes

OLED, Super AMOLED, AMOLED plus, super duper AMOLED 12,000 +, all the same tech.
The characteristics of the emmiters in Organic Light Emmiting Diodes are exactly the same, blue wears faster. The only differences are how it is driven (AM= Active Matrix) and the plus is just the pattern of the subpixels (RGB or pentile). If it has OLED anywhere in it, your screen WILL get images burned in if you have static images on the screen for too long and blue will wear sooner, much sooner, than the rest of the colors.
So BE CAREFULL! if you have your brightness cranked avoid static images, unless you like them so much that you want them permanently part of the screen!
Is there a way I can hack a ROM to just change the graphics? I am no coder but I can tweak the art.
And i can build android....until u have its ppl like u the reason all us devs are leaving this forum...nobody reads...nobody listens...

Why not use miui? You can easily set up a theme to suit your needs. My screen has no specific blues in it (just red/black/Grey).

Because ge woukd rather try to"fix" the bkue burnibg into his screen...than flash a theme
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
actually i do have a solution if you dont mind things looking funny. other than looking for themes that have less blue and white and purple you could download chainfire 3d and use one of the night mode settings. the red or amber or green settings should help. chainfire 3d is some kind of intermediary driver that can allowq the gpu to process apis for other gpu's (assuming you have the appropriate files that are surprisingly hard to find but i have copies if anyone needs them for a specific game or anything) but one of the features is for either night viewing or for power saving and (assuming you have oled of some kind) and it will selectively remove or reduce the levels of the different colors. this could also be good for using your phone as a hud (heads up display) or just making navigation a little less distracting at night.
edit; now ther eis a plugin for the pay version that will automagically change color settigns based on light conditions and time of day so you can have full color when it's important and reduce blue in the evening so it's not so blinding and to save your screen from excessive blue burn in. it can also set the colors according to color temperature or custom rgb mixing.

Hmm...changing the colors of your theme sounds like preventing burn in.
I've never experienced burn in, so I'm not help.

As often as new phones come out on the market, I'll probably upgrade my phone before it has a chance to overdose on blue.
Besides, isn't that what your auto screen shutoff feature is for?
When you are actively using you're phone which means the screen is constantly changing, I don't see much chance of images getting burned onto the screen. If you like to leave your screen on and look at the pretty pictures, that might be different, ie. you will risk burning images onto your screen!

Except that some things don't really change much while using like the battery, clock, wifi etc at the top of the screen. Mine came flashed with a custom ROM (bought used) and with the theme that is on there the guy who made it went mental with blue. Everything is blue, even the wifi and battery charge indicator.

Color Mode? New Feature

So I have no idea how no one has noticed or mentioned about this feature in the new Moto X Pure Edition but it has a new feature under display settings called "Color Mode" where you can now choose between "normal" and "vibrant" screen colors.
Since they moved this year from AMOLED to TFT LCD this year I guess they wanted to give us an option to choose from
Here is the phone
Do you see a big difference between the two? Which do you prefer? My pure was delivered this morning but I'm away and won't get it till Monday ?

It comes on Vibrant as default. At first, when I changed it to normal, it looked a little flat, but after a while I could live with it. But I left it on vibrant anyways, coming from saturated amoled screens in the past, I'm pretty much used to it.

He has the black/dark trim
So I will say after switching between modes for the past couple days, on and off. Vibrant mode is definitely the better color mode. With normal the colors seem more washed out and whiter, while vibrant makes the colors darker and less white, while at the same time making the whites whiter(if that makes sense)

Depends on what your definition of better is. The normal mode provides more accurate colors than vibrant mode, nearly matching my 2015 MacBook Pro. Most people are just used to oversaturated screens, especially those coming from AMOLED screens, so they will probably prefer the vibrant mode. I'm just glad Motorola gave us the option because everyone has their own preference between accurate and sexy and this way we can all be happy.
This is true, I will agree with you there
I prefer more accurate color reproduction within the limits of the display technology. My eyes hurt when dealing with high contrast screens. But superficially, "vibrant" will seem better, just like how people will gravitate towards the TVs in a store with the higher contrast and brighter colors even if it's just a setting. Having had a couple TVs professionally calibrated in the past, I'm not into artificially adding more color than exists normally. Vibrant probably crushes blacks too.
Saturated just has more punch and seems more contrasty. I refer color accuracy. The blacks are probably blacker on normal mode, just the whites don't get as bright so the blacks lose their depth. Speaking from experience in general, and not having moto x in hand experience.
