Streaky screen - Samsung Infuse 4G

When looking at light backgrounds on low brightness levels, does anyone else's screen get somewhat streaky looking? Just faint vertical splotches all over any light area. Goes away at 25%+ brightness.. Defective LCD?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App

possibly, I checked mine under a couple of conditions, could not duplicate your problem, sorry

Better look a tit with a SEM.

Are you talking about like flickering lines? I've seen it a couple of times. Might be kernal related.

It's not an LCD; it's AMOLED, which is a totally different tech. Most Samsung AMOLED displays seem to exhibit this if you search around (e.g. Engadget's Nexus S review). Nothing you can do about it, and a replacement will probably have it too. My Cowon S9 even has it.

[solved] Xoom screen question

I just ditched my Notion ink Adam for the mighty Xoom. I'm glad to say I'm impressed. Now for the reason behind my post. Is it normal to see a diamond like pattern(what I suspect to be the digitizer) behind the glass.... I first noticed it while playing with the youtube app. The deep black colors gave way to what I thought was just noise from the video, but after looking at it on an angle with the screen off you can definitely see the pattern.
Is this normal? Last I remember seeing a digitizer was on my Mogul.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
A small moire type pattern or a large contrast difference pattern. I have seen the large pattern occasionally. It doesn't seem to interfere with actual usage.
it the screen capacitive touch sensors (dunno the technical term). i can see it on just about every touch screen except the ipad - go figure.
the 101 is a crosshatch, the nook color are dots, this xoom is a crosshatch with some kind of checker pattern.
I figured it was normal, just didn't expect it to be so profound. It has no hindering effect on user experience. I hope people don't take this and blow it out of proportion as a flaw...lol

They probably will.. lol I've seen people make issues of of something trivial like a button squeaking when you press it.. I can already picture people saying "my xoom screen is messed up"

yeah the only time you notice it will be on dark scenes/backgrounds with ambient light and holding it at a certain angle. the 101 is more predominant but it's really not a bother.
Bad LCD panel?
Hi everyone. I just bought my wifi-only model from Staples today (Sunday). I noticed a little "problem" with the LCD panel when I turned it on, but disregarded it.
While watching a movie, I noticed the issue in full force. When a movie file is playing and there is a black background, I can see "mini-panels" and it's very distracting. I don't see this on a solid black background without media playing so I'm guessing it's something with the backlight. I'm attaching a photo (glad I was able to capture it this way!).
Anyone else seeing this? I didn't look close enough at the store's display.
And so it begins...

that's the capacitive sensors. i wonder how apple hides theirs.
Ive got them too, didnt notice it on any other devices ive used but its just the capacitor mesh that moto decided to use. My glass almost seems wavy as well (like not 100% flat) so not sure what my feelings are on that yet...
my guess on the waves is that it helps curb reflections.
Yeah what you guys are seeing is definitely the digitizer. On most touch screen devices you can see the digitizer at the right angle and with bright enough light (ie sunlight seems to bring it out the most). My guess is if you test this is a lower light setting you wont see any of the digitizer.
I have also noticed the digitizer on the xoom screen relatively easily.
well, ive just noticed the waves. i usually see small waves on screens but these are warps. good thing i'm trying to pay attention to the image on screen instead of the reflection, lol.
I have seen little warps on the bottom of the screen like 1/3 or the way to the middle and 2/3 to the right side (like a couple inches off center on each side). They are also in the same relative position on the top. My guess is this is how the screen is attached? It would be great if someone could take a good look at theirs, it may take looking at the reflection of light in those spots to actually see the warp, but I would really like to know if it is just mine or it is on all of them. And BTW I see the digitizer too, but it is worse on my HTC inspire 4g.

Will I like the G2x?

Currently have a Nexus S and I just ordered a G2X, if someone has compared them both. What do you think? Is the G2X a upgrade to the Nexus S? I'm in a good place because I can always hand down whatever device I don't want to keep or return the G2X for the Sensation. What are your opinions on the G2X hardware wise? The G2X will probably be stock for like 5 min. as I plan on putting whatever rom is hot atm. Please help I'm torn between the two lol.

There are lots of NS owners and they say the screen is brighter and more detailed.... and much much faster.
Coming from the Nexus line, it flashes and everything the same way. No using special software to flash or anything. Just root, download Rom Manager, and flash.
The Sensation has an encrypted locked bootloader so chances of it having custom roms is slim-to-none.
Plus Tegra 2 dual-core is faster. HDMI out is fun. You'll like it.
Yep.

I was about to pick up a G2X recently. I talked to a person in the store returning their G2X which had horrid back light bleeding. I'm learning that this issue is inherent to this models screen to varying degrees depending on your luck. The screenshots I've seen being sent to LG support don't look good either. Whats the consensus here?

this is more how i feel as well...
while it is an issue, some phones are worse than others for sure... My phone has what I would consider average bleeding for an LCD screen, i have a bit of bleed in the upper left corner and a smaller bit on the lower left... at 100% brightness on total black they are both noticeable but not like rays of sun protruding out the sides... on 50% you can see them if you are looking for them and lowest brightness they are totally unnoticeable...
now, i watch movies at night all the time and i keep my brightness settings on automatic so when i watch my movies that have dark edges and such the brightness is typically very low thus the bleeding goes unnoticed... never have i needed to watch a movie with max brightness in the dark, the only time i would noticeably see the bleeding... if i do max brightness during the day while watching something then i still dont notice the bleeding cuz the natural daylight blends it out...
point being, there are very few scenarios where you will even come in contact with the bleeding if its not so bad that your whole screen is turning yellow, which i have seen lol
its all a matter of what you can tolerate in the end...
Yes. It's a great phone, even with the old software, and when the tasty gingerbread update drops it will be better.

Agreed, though I am on my 2nd G2x. No issues at all. Minimal bleed in the top left and right corners, but not really noticeable except on the splash screen, boot animation, and power-off animation. I had an EVO for almost a year, and it had the same issue. Never noticed it with normal usage, even rockin' a gingerbread rom w/ the black status bar.
My first looked like the screens in this thread: http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/carriers/t-mobile/topics/g2x-screen-separating-from-body
Clearly defective, so I sent it back and got a new one. Very satisfied now.
Thanks for the opinions of the backlight bleed guys. I'm just worried coming from a SAMOLED screen on the Vibrant, that I would be very disappointed. I'll give it more consideration.

I came from an AMOLED on a Nexus 1 and while it was not a SAMOLED i still think i prefer the LCD over LED given the current tech... the pentile matrix of LED drove me nuts, everything looked grainy to me regardless of the vibrant colors and deep blacks... LCD looks sharper and more natural... I have great eyesight so I am nitpicky about quality and clarity on my screen
I came from the vibrant also and I wonder what everyone was on about. While I like the colors of the vibrant, the g2x still looks bea-utiful! Lcd screen bleed isnt so bad. specially with the lights on.
Unlike a ugly chick you dont have to turn out the lights to use it!

Light bleed

So my first Transformer had minor light bleed along one edge of the screen. If I were to gently twist the tablet the bleed would fluctuate. I returned it and found that I had the only Transformer in my area so I could not get a replacement. I ended up ordering online last night.
My question is: Do all it these things have minor light bleed? If not, what are the chances my next one will have it? Or better yet the chances of me finding a remedy?
Can a few of you comment on your experiences with your own tablets please? The way I checked for it was to cover the camera sensor and take a picture. Turn the brightness all the way up and go into a dark room to look at that all black picture I just took in fullscreen mode.

My first two have had more-than-minor light bleed. I should have my third on Monday. If that one has light bleed I'll start to consider giving up on the TF.
All of them have more or less light bleed I think. Mine also have some. You can see it at the bootscreen with the asus logo.
light bleed on ips screens are very common..
I have gone through 3 of them and they all had some light bleed. I don't believe anyone that says they don't have any. They just haven't maxed out brightness, put on a black wallpaper, and gone to a completely dark room.
i have a very minor light bleed- not enough to even worry.
You can check by using the nook book app and seting a book to night read mode.
Did not want to worry about sending it out to take a chance on getting another with minor light bleed or even worse light bleed. as well i had not other probs with it so why chance it.
That doesn't mean anyone else's bleed is not worse...so it is a case by case. choice.
good luck.
I guarantee you your next TF will have some light bleed. Whether it is better or worse, is a different story.
Thank you for all of the replies. I may consider the galaxy 10.1

It is not the fact that it is an IPS screen, but the fact that it is Edge-lit to keep it thin/cheap.

Very much so. Guys...seriously stop whining about the light bleeding. It is not that important. 99% of them do this no matter what tablet you use. So just deal with it and use your new toy.
I don't have any light bleed on my tf. I'm in the UK. I must be lucky !
it really does depend on the amount of bleed though. The one I had was very severe on the bottom (in landscape). It didn't have to be dark at all to see it.

[Q] Screen Quality

I just got a G2X yesterday and it has backlight arterial flow. It's not obvious looking head on but it doesn't take much of an angle to see light peeking around the edges. I've heard this is a "known issue" but would anyone else return their phone for a replacement? How likely is it that I'll have the same problem with the next one? I've had the vibrant since release and I've gotten used to the contrast and color of the amoled screen but I don't think I'm just being spoiled. For $500 I feel light bleed should not be an issue. Black uniformity? Ehhhh not quite as much but still... Anyone care to comment?

Youre new around these parts aren't ya? Lol
Its a very well know issue. Look around this forum and you'll find countless references to it. It comes down to what is acceptable for you? Some people have returned and exchanged multiple times to correct it. For me, its barely noticeable and only on a black screen in a dark room so it doesn't bother me.
Look around the forum and then judge for yourself if you can live with the problem.
I'll probably try a return and if it happens again, I'll just deal and think about an upgrade later on. Like I said I'm used to the samsung screens so this problem is all new to me. Overall the build of the phone feels sturdier than the vibrant. I also like that web browsing is much smoother.
I can deal with that. I don't want reboots and a over heating phone. The screen problems are minimal on my phone.

Have you done a complete hard reset/restore of the phone? Factory data reset?
It significantly cooled down my phone after doing it. Never had a reboot on the phone afterwards, but prior to that I only had one reboot, so I don't think I had a problem
I had installed a bunch of task killer/ battery saver apps on the phone, and the combo screwed things up software wise.....have not touched any task killers since.
I try that when I get a my new memory card.
Thanks.

Sgs4g owners for 1+ years, do you notice any difference in the screen?

I heard that oled screens deteriorate over time and the pixels becomes dull. Has anyone had this happen to their sgs4g?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Mine's pretty bad. Not only do I have screen burn-in where the top notification bar is, but whenever I'm on certain games or applications that display a solid color, I see a bunch of burnt-in horizontal lines. Thankfully, these are the only times I notice it. My screen is fine 95% of the time otherwise.
Despite these long-term problems, I absolutely love OLED screens, and the benefits definitely outweigh the tradeoffs. Comparing my SGS4G to my Nexus 7's IPS screen, the quality of the SGS4G's screen is just so much better.
My screen is still good but I have noticed a slight difference in the crispness of the screen

i'd have to agree with falcons2.
I have no damaged pixels or weird damage "yet", but it may have gotten a bit fuzzier. Actually since Gingerbread leaks KF1, it started going down a bit. Maybe there's an issue within GB kernel source. Well, we can ask bhundven, because I now he is bootable on an aries based AOSP kernel without Sammy-tmo code in it.
I have no proof but maybe download mode flashing reduces crispness. Also, colors are a bit less saturated. But compared to iphone 4s new screens, it is much much better.
also @op, did you read this from wikipedia?
We have super amoled not just oled.
Also, it says OLED consumes more battery then LCDs displaying colors other than black.
In fact it is the opposite. OLED save battery compared to LCD because displaying all colors is about the same power consumption.
