I had 2 fascinates and had the same issue. I'm guessing since the screen is organic it changes color over time, or maybe 2 screens made at different times just have different hues....

Mine has a noticeable greenish tint next to my wife's. I considered trading out but then who says the next one I get wouldn't have some other defect? I just write it off as 'adds character'.

Very common for any type of display. Thats why there are such extensive color/gamma correction features built into LCD TVs, though people rarely take advantage of them. If we had some sort of gamma tool for Android you could remove these variations fairly easily.

My brown looks awesomely brown. Is this a change up in the display lately?

I suspect that Voodoo Color, if it worked on the Charge, would be able to remedy this. I have no idea if Voodoo Color for the Charge is under development or has been scrapped though.

Imosyen's kernel has bits of voodoo color built in.
It's definitely possible to have the full mod available for us. In fact it's probably on its way.

I went through three replacement Charges before getting one that looked close enough to stock. Was really bugging me... I'm happy to hear that there might be a way to adjust in the future.

Color calibration?

Is there any way to change the color calibration on the display? I want to raise the blue levels because I'm a bigger fan of a cool color tone and the whites on the g2x are more than an off white. (compared to my mt4g with good lcd where whites are bright white)
I have heard about the color calibration hack for the nexus one but I don't know if it'll work on the leaded gingerbread ROM from paul o'brien
If you don't know what I'm talking about go to the color settings on your computer monitor or tv and change from "cool" to "normal". The g2x is more like the normal setting while i like the cool setting better.
I posted a link already. There is a calibration tool in the Nexus One forums that you can use. I don't think the G2x needs it though. Mine looks natural.

I'm fine with all the colors except for white, I'm a bigger fan of a more bluish white like on the iphone.
I'll give the nexus one thing a try but i think a bunch of people who tried it on the g2x it force closed. Not sure about the leaked gb rom though so I'll try it and report back
the flash aborted because it says amend scripting is no longer supported since android 1.5?
I also tried installing both apk's and they both force close when I try to do anything
pretty sure you have to be on cm7 for it to work
Is it just my specific device or are the whites on this phone not really true white but more like off-white? If u compare it to the mytouch 4g with good lcd there's a big difference. Although this device does have truer blacks.

Every LCD is different. Even if the phones are the same model. Mine has a bit of a red tint when showing white but its only noticeable if I look at it next to my Vibrant.

I know different phones have different color tones but I just wanted to know if it was just my device where whites weren't true white because some people have been talking about a yellow or orange tint. I'm expecting a replacement phone to arrive next week so I guess I'll do a comparison when it arrives.
Looks fine to me, but really I'm all about resolution. Colors can vary and sounds can be medium quality and I probably won't notice a difference.

Meaning if you took a number of G2x and put them side by side none of them would be completely identical. So its not just you that has a slightly off screen.

Well thats why I want to change the color settings because the high levels of red in the whites are really bothering me.

What exactly does screen bleeding effect

I just bought a g2x today. Didn't notice the screen bleed until I read about it. Just wondering what this does or the negative effect it has on my phone.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Yeah. It makes people complain... Other than that I think it's just cosmetic...
Sent from my butt using XDA Premium App
It just might be that my phone doesn't have screen bleeding as severe as other phones, but if I didn't read about it I probably wouldn't have noticed.
Yea that's what I'm thinking. I didn't hear about a single problem with the phone until I got it lol. Idk how bad mine is in relation to others but I don't want to exchange it and get one that's worse
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
And is this something that can get progressively worse?

Mine hasn't got any worse. I didn't notice til I read it on xda. I've had mine since release date and I love mine.

No it does not affect usability at all. Some have posited that when Gingerbread gets released it will be more noticable on its dark notification bar. Some have also complained that their screen bleed has progressed to "bars" but I've only seen that a few times. I think virtually everyone will tell you it's a non issue.
That said, IMO, it is the lack of a real response that is indicative of the biggest issue of all. That being the lack of real support. People are getting them replaced, but that's it. I just want a phone that works. I have had a lot of issues. Getting a new one every two weeks is no fun. I'm in limbo now. I'm sick of re-entering everything....I really am. I just want a phone that works all the time with full functionality.Just get a new one is fine....but this is stupid.

So am I lol. Not with G2x but other phones. I am just looking for one that works. I need an international phone. I want one with a ffc to video chat to home. I want to future proof my device and I am doing that with a ffc, 4g, and a dual core processor. Its not an issue for me but I dont want it to become one.
not a thing, just crazy people having to have something to complain about. it really isn't serious at all.

Im using Cm7 right now and it has a black bar on top and I notice that the side with light bleed looks a little washed out compared to the rest of the bar. You notice it even if its not dark but probably not if the lights are really bright

the colors on this thing look beautiful and I'm wondering if when gb comes with its black status bar will things start to look a little off.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
The effect is purely cosmetic and is a result of the sort of screen the G2x uses. Most phones use a LED screen, particularly AMOLED and Super AMOLED. The G2x uses an LCD screen, which is what most TVs use.
LCD screens are much, much brighter (my old AMOLED screen's optimum brightness in daylight was 100%, this one is 25%) and displays colors with much more vibrance, but it doesn't handle black very well. Turn on your television in a dark room to an empty channel (like DVD when the dvd player isn't on) and you'll see the same effect.
Personally, I don't mind. In fact, I prefer the LCD: the brightness and color is more than good enough to offset the bleed.

After using the leaked 2.3.3 update, I can tell you that it definitely does look odd, but only when you're in a pitch-black room.
That's what I was worried about. Are you going to keep it? I'm trying to debate if I will or not. I do not really want the sensation

Color Balance

Is there any way to adjust the color balance of the G2X's display. Compared to my Moto Atrix 2 and Nexus One the G2X is shifted toward red where other phones are more true or shifted toward slightly green or blue.

My wife is using my old Nexus One. I tried giving her my G2X but she didn't like it because of tendency for whites to have a red tint to them. For example if you go into the Dropbox or Facebook app on the G2X there is a definite red tint, but if you go into the same apps on the Nexus One there is a slight green/blue tint while on the Moto Atrix 2 (changed to get 850Mhz 3G for DTAC Thailand) there is almost no tint (more true white). I guess all the various types of display panels (LCD, SLCD, OLED and iPS) have their different peculiarities. If I could shift the color to a truer white, I think she would then like the G2X. I guess the OLED display on the Nexus One spoiled her, but I think my Moto Atrix 2 has the truest color of the three.

I loved the display for the year I used the phone. Then when I went to the Moto the colors were more vibrant and true. I did not notice the red tint until my wife gave me the phone back and said it bothered here and wanted to keep the Nexus One instead. The Nexus One is starting to run out of memory, etc. and I need to get her stepped up to a better Android phone soon. I will check out the app you mentioned. Thanks.

Glowing at night

Has anyone noticed that when the green LED notification light is on in total darkness the whole device front-plate "glows"?
I have the white S4 and this may be an attribute to it, but it's very cool to see at night time.
When I wake up in the morning to see my S4 is fully charged it is "glowing". Cool effect, intentional or not lol.
I dont have the white one, and I havent noticed any glow, bit in the morning ill pay closer attention. ....

It's only on white devices. The GS2, Note, GS3, Note 2, etc. all have this. It's not a feature, but more of an artifact of the white digitizer being somewhat transparent.

Quite possibly, you could have an ancient Android ghost occupying the new S4!!
Sounds like a radiation leak. You should have the reactor core inspected ASAP.

Color Mode? New Feature

So I have no idea how no one has noticed or mentioned about this feature in the new Moto X Pure Edition but it has a new feature under display settings called "Color Mode" where you can now choose between "normal" and "vibrant" screen colors.
Since they moved this year from AMOLED to TFT LCD this year I guess they wanted to give us an option to choose from
Here is the phone
Do you see a big difference between the two? Which do you prefer? My pure was delivered this morning but I'm away and won't get it till Monday ?

It comes on Vibrant as default. At first, when I changed it to normal, it looked a little flat, but after a while I could live with it. But I left it on vibrant anyways, coming from saturated amoled screens in the past, I'm pretty much used to it.

He has the black/dark trim
So I will say after switching between modes for the past couple days, on and off. Vibrant mode is definitely the better color mode. With normal the colors seem more washed out and whiter, while vibrant makes the colors darker and less white, while at the same time making the whites whiter(if that makes sense)

Depends on what your definition of better is. The normal mode provides more accurate colors than vibrant mode, nearly matching my 2015 MacBook Pro. Most people are just used to oversaturated screens, especially those coming from AMOLED screens, so they will probably prefer the vibrant mode. I'm just glad Motorola gave us the option because everyone has their own preference between accurate and sexy and this way we can all be happy.
This is true, I will agree with you there
I prefer more accurate color reproduction within the limits of the display technology. My eyes hurt when dealing with high contrast screens. But superficially, "vibrant" will seem better, just like how people will gravitate towards the TVs in a store with the higher contrast and brighter colors even if it's just a setting. Having had a couple TVs professionally calibrated in the past, I'm not into artificially adding more color than exists normally. Vibrant probably crushes blacks too.
Saturated just has more punch and seems more contrasty. I refer color accuracy. The blacks are probably blacker on normal mode, just the whites don't get as bright so the blacks lose their depth. Speaking from experience in general, and not having moto x in hand experience.
