OLED screens blow away LCDs in almost every way, except for one, longevity. The blue emmiter subpixels wear faster then the others. Static images especially ones using blue subpixels can damage your screen.
I notice that most themes use loads of blue everywhere. That is also the color which burns in the quickest on OLED screens. Also static images like the battery, wifi etc at the top are always there. This also can result in screen burn. Unless you want your screen to start to look like an old Pac-Man arcade screen care should be taken.
Since this is the Infuse section and everyone has an OLED screen has anyone made a theme using colors with as little blue as possible (white uses blue sub pixels so that don't count). Colors with mostly red green mixtures are the most OLED safe. I wouldn't mind if those static indicators on the top at least were all in yellow, red etc and at a lower brightness than the rest of the screen.
Idk about you but my screen IBM's super Amoled + not oled ....

I have a few rom threads on here so if you want the LCD density clearer...go into the build prop and change it to 200 or 190... or flash obsession with the red, purple, yellow themes

OLED, Super AMOLED, AMOLED plus, super duper AMOLED 12,000 +, all the same tech.
The characteristics of the emmiters in Organic Light Emmiting Diodes are exactly the same, blue wears faster. The only differences are how it is driven (AM= Active Matrix) and the plus is just the pattern of the subpixels (RGB or pentile). If it has OLED anywhere in it, your screen WILL get images burned in if you have static images on the screen for too long and blue will wear sooner, much sooner, than the rest of the colors.
So BE CAREFULL! if you have your brightness cranked avoid static images, unless you like them so much that you want them permanently part of the screen!
Is there a way I can hack a ROM to just change the graphics? I am no coder but I can tweak the art.
And i can build android....until u have its ppl like u the reason all us devs are leaving this forum...nobody reads...nobody listens...

Why not use miui? You can easily set up a theme to suit your needs. My screen has no specific blues in it (just red/black/Grey).

actually i do have a solution if you dont mind things looking funny. other than looking for themes that have less blue and white and purple you could download chainfire 3d and use one of the night mode settings. the red or amber or green settings should help. chainfire 3d is some kind of intermediary driver that can allowq the gpu to process apis for other gpu's (assuming you have the appropriate files that are surprisingly hard to find but i have copies if anyone needs them for a specific game or anything) but one of the features is for either night viewing or for power saving and (assuming you have oled of some kind) and it will selectively remove or reduce the levels of the different colors. this could also be good for using your phone as a hud (heads up display) or just making navigation a little less distracting at night.
edit; now ther eis a plugin for the pay version that will automagically change color settigns based on light conditions and time of day so you can have full color when it's important and reduce blue in the evening so it's not so blinding and to save your screen from excessive blue burn in. it can also set the colors according to color temperature or custom rgb mixing.

Hmm...changing the colors of your theme sounds like preventing burn in.
I've never experienced burn in, so I'm not help.

As often as new phones come out on the market, I'll probably upgrade my phone before it has a chance to overdose on blue.
Besides, isn't that what your auto screen shutoff feature is for?
When you are actively using you're phone which means the screen is constantly changing, I don't see much chance of images getting burned onto the screen. If you like to leave your screen on and look at the pretty pictures, that might be different, ie. you will risk burning images onto your screen!

Except that some things don't really change much while using like the battery, clock, wifi etc at the top of the screen. Mine came flashed with a custom ROM (bought used) and with the theme that is on there the guy who made it went mental with blue. Everything is blue, even the wifi and battery charge indicator.

Does this app really work to lower battery useage? Or is it just a placebo effect? Can I set my screen to 100% and use the filter to save batt?
Genuinely curious.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
depends on the screen. pretty sure the DHD has an LCD, though that is from memory as I have never used one. If so, then no you wont see any battery life changes because the type of screen will turn on all pixels at all times no matter what color. That is the nature of the screen.
On the other hand if you have an AMOLED screen (as I do) the screen can turn pixels completely off if they are black and use less power if they are darker. These screens are most commonly used in Samsung phones, I'm not sure about any other manufacturers.
You can still benefit from Screen Filter because it will make your screen not as bright to your eyes, which is good if you need to use it at night and don't want to be blinded/wake up your spouse/whatever.

Thank you. Will have to check the box when I get home for LCD or smiled.

As far as I know:
OLED is transparent, and doesn't need a backlight (as it provides its own).
So why can't you have an eInk display behind the OLED display? Switch off the OLED when you want to use the eInk, and turn the OLED back on when eInk is done?
For touchscreen usage, instead of glossy glass for capacitive, use infrared or acoustic pulse (what the Kindle Touch uses), so it's not glossy at all (to read eInk and OLED screens better).
If OLED screen requires a dark back panel to show the colors effectively, use the eInk display to show all black >.>.
That actually sounds like a really good idea, I would buy a phone like that.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
Yes, really good idea - if black BG is needed for OLED, keeping eInk black doesn't consume any power at all.
Well, you can contact some manufacturer and tell them your idea
If I was you I would really edit your post to say that this is your idea and no one else can propose this, because I really think if you were to propose this it would go through.

I recently purchased a dock for my Nexus as it provides easy access to incoming notifications, USB storage and doubles as a desk clock.
However, I've been reading mixed opinions on whether AMOLED screens or specifically the Nexus S screen can have burn-in or not. I would like to use my phone as a desk clock but not have any consequences to the screen after a year or so ...
Anyone use their Nexus S as a Desk Clock (for hours a day) and have you received burn in? Thanks!
I personally wouldn't unless you'd be happy to replace the screen or retire the phone within the year, specifically on the amoleds.
Blues, violets and whites lower the corresponding pixels relatively fast and can easily change the colour balance across the screen. Other colours do the same but at half the pace. Blacks won't do any harm. Unlike an LCD, each (sub)pixel will lose only its own light as its used, eventually with prolonged uneven use different parts of the screen reproduce colours differently. Lcds just lose some of their light evenly.

Thank you Harbb for your answer. You always give insightful answers backed up with reasoning.
If you wanted to know, this is the Dock Clock app I was using:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gadgetjuice.dockclock
It allows me to set the background fully black with white text for the clock. Periodically it also shifts position to avoid screen burn in. In addition It allows you to set the brightness to 10% when plugged!
But it's better safe than sorry I suppose.
Always welcome Aero

Aside from being able to adjust text color, the original desk clock built into ICS does the same. Moves around and allows you to dim quite substantially.

True, I was using it before hand except I didn't like the ICS blue when dimmed. This one remains white and shows the weather/date too.
I heard that oled screens deteriorate over time and the pixels becomes dull. Has anyone had this happen to their sgs4g?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Mine's pretty bad. Not only do I have screen burn-in where the top notification bar is, but whenever I'm on certain games or applications that display a solid color, I see a bunch of burnt-in horizontal lines. Thankfully, these are the only times I notice it. My screen is fine 95% of the time otherwise.
Despite these long-term problems, I absolutely love OLED screens, and the benefits definitely outweigh the tradeoffs. Comparing my SGS4G to my Nexus 7's IPS screen, the quality of the SGS4G's screen is just so much better.
My screen is still good but I have noticed a slight difference in the crispness of the screen

i'd have to agree with falcons2.
I have no damaged pixels or weird damage "yet", but it may have gotten a bit fuzzier. Actually since Gingerbread leaks KF1, it started going down a bit. Maybe there's an issue within GB kernel source. Well, we can ask bhundven, because I now he is bootable on an aries based AOSP kernel without Sammy-tmo code in it.
I have no proof but maybe download mode flashing reduces crispness. Also, colors are a bit less saturated. But compared to iphone 4s new screens, it is much much better.
also @op, did you read this from wikipedia?
We have super amoled not just oled.
Also, it says OLED consumes more battery then LCDs displaying colors other than black.
In fact it is the opposite. OLED save battery compared to LCD because displaying all colors is about the same power consumption.

What's the difference between oled and super oled? And yeah, I love that the screen can produce true black unlike LCD its great for watching videos.

[REQ]Any developer that could help me with something? I want to make this app matching system UI with ready filters and put it in Setting so that it will look integrated like the galaxy screen settings, that would help ppl think the screenproblem is just a soft problem and doesn't depend on hardware. Please be kind and PM me
As many have noticed, and even made some ppl crazy is the yellow tint on our screen(HTC One X, Xperia Ion, S etc).
Searching for screen filtering at play store made my day!
Then i found this app: LINK https://play.google.com/store/apps/...e=search_result&rdid=com.netmanslab.sa&rdot=1
I installed it and then made a filter with:
Red 0
Green 0
Blue 8
Brightness: 100%
Contrast: -0
That made me feel like replacing the whole screen!
Second thing you should do is:
Press the MENU-button and go in to Options
Autorun [YES]
Hide status bar icon [YES]
Enjoy your screen!"
Works perfectly! Thanks again to roobeyn
Wow!
People are often choosing blue screen as being more white than real white color is. Please read why choosing white other then 6500k is making your eye not seeing many colours.
http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/learnabout/definitions/why6500k.html
Screen in one s is really very good calibrated as in every HTC phone past HTC Desire with amoled (which was first HTC calibrated screen with ota update and that update made reddish screen looks better).
Of course as every amoled it is very oversaturated, but it looks good on phone screen.
Anyway your advise for people which likes blue screen: adding blue to everything makes black not true black. This is looking bad, kills amoled contrast when normally black pixel are totally blank (because they are not lighting) and in that way will shorten battery life as normally on amoled black parts of the screen are not using any power.

What yellow tint, using that filter your screen is "colder", and like every filter you loose processing power and some colour. You are free to use it, but when you bought the phone, you checked the screen... Right?
Thanks for sharing I didn't notice the tint till I got the nexus 7, the one s screen is yellow compared to it, that edit with your settings fixed that, thanks.
