If you also own a Android tablet, you NEED this! - Xperia Play Themes and Apps

Been following this awesome app that came out recently called DroidMote, it allows you to control your Android tablet using a Android phone over WiFi. I put in a request for the developer to add Xperia Play support, and much to my suprise, he obliged! The update went live today. I having been playing Snesoid and Riptide GP with awesome results! I have am impressed with this app to say the least! It allows you to map all of the Xperia Play buttons except for the touchpads. Check it out!

today i made an update. Droidmote Client ver.2 for the problems above.
try it and let me know how it goes.
Now you can close the application only with menu exit button.
The Back button act as remote Back button.
The Xperia Play, map the circle button to the standard Back button + alt.

Looks great! I'll certainly be getting this when I get my transformer prime

Holy crap this makes me want a Tablet S even more! Then you can play PS certified games on a tablet with PS controls!

Might have to give this a shot on my Herotab C8.

Wow! I waiting and searcg a long Time for this app!
Thanks for Info. I test this with my HTC Flyer!

You mean games you'd already be able to play on your phone?...

Excuse me for being noob, but the one that 'runs' the game is the tablet, and the phone is just the 'stick'?

Its a hell of a lot nicer on a 10 inch screen. Portable enough to take with you places.

OR you just buy a laptop and get 10x better emulators. Then you just buy a usb-controller for like $20, problem solved.

Do you really want to go down this road? Because we could talk all day about the differences between a tablet and a laptop and what works better and why.
Needless to say a nice little touch screen Sony Tablet S which has an IR blaster built in (so I can use it as a customizable universal touch screen remote), makes a great home use toy, is smaller than any laptop, has better battery life, and does 100% of what I'd expect from a device I can hand to anyone and they can figure out how to use it and what it does.
I was just commenting that it was cool that you COULD do this (games) with it as well.

Thank you, ill check it out as soon as I get off of work. So awesome that I can get more functionality out of my existing devices I already carry with me!

Such a pity that today's handheld usually have more power than tablets.
Is there any way to run games on the handheld and switching the display to a tablet?

zulu99, you really outdid yourself! That was an excellent update! The controls feel way smoother, and the circle button now works! I just ran through a few different games and emulators, and the only problem I ran into was when I was playing N64oid. It would not respond to every other button press when I would press up and a button really fast. I tried to replicate this issue with Snesoid, but could not. It must have been something with N64oid, not your app. Also, do you think there would be a way to implement bluetooth as a means of connection rather than wifi? It works great as it is, but it would be cool to have. Thanks again man!

OR HEY !!! You could go out and buy the hugest HDMI Widescreen TV, buy every gaming system ever invented plus all the games for each system, and sit around in your boxers with a giant bag of cheesepuffs and a keg of beer playing video games 24x7 !!
BUT until I'm that rich, this is still a pretty cool idea !

Thanks for the test.
The Bluetooth technology is old. The wifi-direct is future.
With Ice Cream Sandwich, all devices will have this feature, which is nothing but an old and simple ad-hoc.
For now if you not have a router, active the access point function on the phone, and connect the tablet to your phone.
You can also connect the phone inversely to the tablet.
I tried Droidmote with 2 Galaxy s II with wifi-direct is superb.

no no dude. I'm not gonna argue. I also think it's pretty cool that you CAN do it this way. But i'm just looking at this this way.
I'm om the road and wanna play n64oid, i'll play on my Play.
I'm on my couch and wanna play some emulators, i hook up my computer to the TV.
I'm on the road and wanna play n64oid on a bigger screen then my Play, i'll use a laptop and a USB-controller. Why?
* A laptop is esier to have in your lap in a car
* The emulators is far more greater then on any tablet
* You can use almost any textures flawless
* You get a little bit bigger screen then a regular tablet
* Plus you get all the benefits a laptop has that a tablet doesn't
That's why i said "just use a laptop". I get your point for sure, you get mine?

Your right, Wifi-direct works great! I just activate the wireless hotspot on my tablet and connect my phones wifi to that. Its great becuase it doesn't need to be connected to the internet at all for it to work, just like bluetooth.

soooo does this work with all emulators? and does the game pad work with it or just touchscreen controls?

Hi from Spain!
We just made our first game called Micronytes! It's a platform game with HD graphics (works on smaller devices too!), cool music and an innovative control system (seems a bit weird in the beginning but that's only until you get used to it, if you don't like it we also have a fallback to traditional on screen joystick or even zeemote JS1 if you own one).
Trailer video
Gameplay video on Galaxy Tab
Screenshots:
We would love to hear some feedback for the demo version. On the next version we will add support for the Xperia Play and other devices with hardware controls.

Hi!
Sorry for the bump.
We just wanted to say that we updated the control system (we've had some negative reviews) and added an additional control scheme: analog joystick on screen!
We would love to hear some feedback about the new control scheme and the game itself.
Please if you liked the game, tell us what might need fixing (it's our first game and well, we are taking good care of it )
Cheers!
I'll try this one ;D
Nice game, I've only tried the demo and works good on HTC Hero 2.1
Very fun and addictive, the music gets into your mind!!

Please send, a full download link!
Thanks!
The game is now on amazon appstore! I can't add links but if you search for "micronytes" you'll find us

I didn't understand you want a pirate version of our game or you mean promo codes? I wouldn't mind giving away free codes if android market supported it.
A suggestion for the control method.
Instead of having to shake the device to jump, cant you make it so that while Im touching the right side of the screen to move to the right, the left side of the screen becomes a jump "button", and while moving left the right side becomes the jump "button".
Would love to see that feature, gonna go play some more now
Funny game and epic music made me laugh...thanks
The joystick control is very good...I almost crashed my desire using the shaking controls
Looks plenty fun, but it'd be nice if you could include an option to assign physical buttons to the movements/jumps. People with slider Keyboards and Xperia Plays will thank you for it.
Edit: While we're at it, enabling that for any Input-Method would work, really. That way, it'll also work with Bluetooth-attached Wiimotes.
It is very fun once you get used to the controls. I love the style, and the music. It gives it its own unique feeling. It's quite simple at first, but after progressing further it does become quite a challenge.
Definitely a 4.5/5 stars from me. Will certainly get more when I get the full release version.
Great job, guys.

Great!
Next week I'm going to add support for physical keyboards (fact is it's already implemented, but I used it for development purposes only).
Quick question without looking the Xperia Play API, I guess that the dpad uses the traditional KEY_DOWN, KEY_LEFT etc. But what happens with the buttons (x, o etc)?

You're right about the D-Pad. When I use the Play with emulators, I usually see this:
X = <Center>
O = <Back>
/\= <Unknown>
[]= <Unknown>
They all work fine assigned this way, tho!

Sure, I wouldn't mind to test it out at all! I can also test it on my Transformer with a Wiimote-Bluetooth-controller, if you want to add support for that. Or a USB-Controller, as soon as I have Android 3.1 on the Transformer.
Nice game. Very nice music. Controls are strange... but interesting.
InvalidStateException in MediaPlayer after pressing "home" button (accidentally; twice) and then returning to app. Report was sent to you.
Also there is a strange effect after (also accidentally) pressing "menu" button - the virtual keyboard has appears.
By the way, what is "PREVENT DEVICE FROM SLEEPING" permission for? If you just want that device will not going to sleep while your application is active, why do not use android:keepScreenOn or setKeepScreenOn() for you main view?
Good luck!

Great thanks! I didn't knew about the setKeepScreenOn() ...
About the other issues, I'm having some great problems getting the game on the background when receiving a call etc. Probably it's related to that.
After upgrading (demo version), when i start the game, the volume keys to control media volume don't work(in the game). Not a big deal..just wondering if anybody's experiencing same problems...I got Htc Desire
force closes on Xoom running 3.1...
Great innovative game. Love it.

Test the Touchpad

From the SE developers world site you can download the files I added as an attachment in .zip format. They help devs on their way to develop for the xperia play and belong together with the following: http://developer.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/921/870/1297178992/Accessing_Touch%20Events.pdf
Which I think would be perfect to see how acurate the touchpads really are.
I managed to compile the code from Sony Ericson (my first app/program I ever compiled for android and one of the first in my live ) and added the .apk as an attachment. this is based on the code in the TouchpadNA.zip file.
Personally I was suprised with how acurate it was and found out it's actually 1 big multitouchpad. It detects 2 seperate fingers max but that could be a limitation from this software. The software also detects fingers on the touchscreen (up to 4).
Edit2: Used new icons and did some version numbering, maybe going to improve the app in the future (like testing all other buttons so you can maybe see input lag, but not sure about it). The codes are still the original from SE.
Edit3: Now shows up in the xperia play game launcher!
Nice little app
Just tested the touchpads to see if they did work... Hey and they do :-D
Wich games do they actually work in, cause they're not implemented in fpse yet?
It now shows up in the xperia play game launcher
I think you'd do a great thing if you keep developing this. This could be the beginning for a sweet bundle of custom apps (such as Zoop57's camera mod) which would really enhance the value of our XPlays.
I assume we're good to go installing the APK?
My biggest disapoint with the play is devs dont treat the touch pads like analogue sticks, even on rainbow 6 and nova you have to aim with swipes rather than using it like a stick on my xbox pad (if you get what i mean) lol
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
The apk is good to install yes. Just select it with something like root explorer or just open it in a mail on your device, you do have to select somewhere in the options to allow apps from outside the market.
Since I'm not very good with coding I don't think I can improve much (all the code is from SE). I do wonder why SE didn;t put this in the service menu though.
@AndroHero
I to find that bothersome, walking goes fine but for aiming we need to sweep :/

I was actually thinking of writing to gameloft to request this. If the analog touchsticks played like all analog sticks, games would be much better.
I think it is gameloft rather than sony here, since the "look" touchstick is simply emulating a swipe on a touchscreen.
This DEFINATELY needs to be fixed if fps games are going to be taken more seriously on the sexplay.

Funny that i was thinking of starting a thread in the gameloft forum about the same thing, the touchpad test proves that both thumpads can emulate analogue stick perfectly fine to be implimented into games.

If you make a thread, post the link and i will support you.
Im fairly certain Gameloft make the "look" analog stick function this way due to basically "copy and paste" code from touchscreen to analog stick.
The "movement" stick works properly like a proper analog stick, but the "swipe style look movement" on the "look" stick needs to be programmed to properly work like an analog stick and not emulate the touchscreen swipe.
many gameloft games like MC2 already have this functionality built in. Change the control scheme from analog/swipe or swipe/swipe to analog/analog. You won't likely live to regret it in online play, its abysmal. But as I said in the other forum, to each his own.
Wow, this is extremely impressive!
I have a question though, what exactly did you have to do to make the application show up in the Xperia Play's Game Launcher?
He added a certain string to the app's APK file which labels it as "Xperia Play Optimised" content, thus showing in the Game Launcher.
Developers of emulators should add it then

Any idea what specific file that'd be added to and where? There's a couple developers I've been trying to help get their game Xperia Play Optimized and I'm feeding them every little bit of info I get.
EDIT: That and I'm thinking about moving some of my own projects to the Xperia Play.

Maybe also making square PS key to backspace, triangle to shift (single press upper case next key, double press Caps Lock), X and Start buttons Enter, O and Select buttons spacebar. Unless Select button could be used to switch qwerty... row to numbers 1234... etc. Turning the touchpad into 2-mode keyboard, so main mode lettering could be printed in black on the touchscreen as above and secondary (numbers, symbols, etc) in grey next to them in grey and/or smaller size...
Menu button below PS directional ones to popup the built-in onscreen keyboard for numbers/symbols, etc input?

Even though this isn't an official release, I think that there could be a lot of potential for OnLive with Android devices, especially the Xperia Play. I look forward to seeing where they take it.

There was some news that Sony Ericsson gave some money to the people at Onlive(even tho HTC gave so much more). Onlive for the xperia play would be perfect with and without their new HDMI cradle
Any chance on getting this on the Android Market? would be excellent so if there are any updates released we can get them automatically via the market.
Thanks for the app though

OnLive is a cloud based gaming application. It's primary use is so mid to low end computers can play top tear games that there computer could not play in the native way. This application is a viewer, it will let you watch brag clips, and live feeds of your OnLive friends playing. You can also watch trailers of games you may want to buy. The hope is soon OnLive will bring out a full flegged client, allowing us to play games like Dirt 3 and Deus Ex 3 on our xperia play

It already is possible. HTC is launching an OnLive version of the Evo 4G. It comes with the first playable OnLive client, HDMI out and a special OnLive controller. Once its released, because we have a H/W pad, the client can most prob be ripped from the Evo for us

when you open the viewer and go to gallery to watch people playing the games. It is LIVE. That is why it is so different from you tube. A LIVE stream of the game being played is the viewer. Being able to send the controls back to the server makes it a player.
Hence, netflix streaming + video games + plus hardware controls on our phone = win. Go to google and lookup onlive, or for a demo that requires nothing to install, to see how a service like this could work, go lookup gaikai. that lets you do game demo's for things like crysis 2 in your browser, using your keyboard/mouse to control, at full resolution, even if your computer can't handle the game.
Just tried it on my Xperia Play, it needs a steady connection to run (WiFi-N with good speed).

Soon as the author gets that going, I'll purchase it. I remember trying to play Doom on my GBA, using the L/R buttons for strafe, and I hated it. Do any of the other Doom ports on Android use the touchpads?

What is the difference between this one and the one I use which is also xperia PLAY optimized and has been for several months. Here is the one I use, the developer has also released Hexe, Spear of Destiny, Wolfenstein 3D to the market all with Xperia PLAY support or at least key mapping options.

Have you played the one i linked to? Just curious and if so between the two versions which would you say is the better of the two? I have already pulled the trigger on the one i linked to and bought it some time ago and Irealyl enjoy it especially as I can move my .wad files to my card and use those...
I bought the other Doom... then returned it almost instantly after finding that it doesn't use touch-pads.
Sorry, but I just can't go back to the days of strafing with trigger buttons. Simply tying the polar forward/backward and strafing to the left touchpad, then camera rotation on the right would make worlds of difference in "terraforming" this game to today's standards.
Is the new version worth buying? Does it play well with the xperia play controls?

I'm putting a little request out there.
I Absolutely love this port, and it runs flawlessly on my SGS2.
Now, I was wondering if you could change the touchscreen controls so that left/right in the control-stick turns instead of strafing, maybe put it as an option?
Maybe make them more like official iOS port controls?
thanks in advance.

Your on the Xperia Play forum. We have a gamepad. We dont use the touchscreen.
Have it!
How the hell do you take out of the screen the touch "buttons"? They are annoying...
sufy1000 ha ha ha I like very much
The Sony folks really need to demand that developers sort out their stuff with the Optimized tag. Any game where on-screen buttons appear while you're using the gamepad is simply not optimized. The same goes for games which don't use the thumb sticks at all.

Yes, but there are still already touchscreen controls and people who don't have the xperia play who like this port.
Just because it's on the xperia play doesn't instantly make it an exclusive.
I try to install doom2, anyone can help me?
I've put doom2.wad in the folder and launch the game to download datas. I've recived "doom2_ATC.zip" that i've unzipped in folders "OpenGLES2/doom2" and "MP3/doom2". When I select doom2 in the launcher, he load the game but I return immediately in my desktop. I've not try to uninstall and reinstall the app, what must I do?

Why don't developers for the Xperia Play have a read of this !
http://developer.sonymobile.com/wpo...ay/game-developer-recommendations?cc=gb&lc=en
Lol, they seem sensible... but I think almost noone follows them.
Ok, I've solved my problem. My WADS was bad. Tested with doom2, TNT, Plutonia, all work like a charm.

Check "Disable touch controls (Xperia Play)" on the launcher.
This is by far the best port I've seen.
One little thing I had to do though, since my brightness is low on my phone, is if you touch doom guy's face it brings up the gamma controls on the bottom left. Cranked that all the way up and I'm good, now.
Just checked out the latest update, the new no mouse-look controls are a lot better.
Thank you, you amazing dev!

[PSX Emu] ePSXe for Android

ePSXe has been released officially for Android on Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.epsxe.ePSXe
It's important to say: Doesn't support the Xperia Play hardware buttons and has less configuration than FPSe.
After a 4 years hiatus, it is finally time for some news about ePSXe's development.
ePSXe 1.8.0 is almost finished and is currently in testing phase. If all goes well we expect to release it in a few weeks. This version will include compressed iso support (PBP), SBI support (such as used by redump.org), updates for multitap, disc change and spu and of course a lot of compatibility related fixes.
We were thinking of different ways to get funds for the development of ePSXe and finally decided to develop an Android port. If you want to support the ePSXe development please buy the Android port in the Google Play Market. It contains the ePSXe core, the internal SPU plugin, a new experimental internal soft GPU plugin and a new 2 players mode for tablets.
We would like to give our thanks to Gladiator, from www.psxdatacenter.com, for the thousands of tests he has done in the last 4 years. Without his help creating a version with high compatibility would have been almost impossible. Many thanks to you and your brother . We would also want to give our thanks to Shalma who worked on ePSXe Shark, several plugins and plugins "repairs series". He did a wonderful job, some would even consider it "magic", finding then fixing numerous bugs and deserves our most sincere thanks and admiration.
Finally we want to thank you the ePSXe users for supporting our 12 years old child "ePSXe"
We have created a twitter account "epsxeteam", where we expect your impressions about the emulator. Please don't use this account to request support and instead use ngemu.com forums.
Regards,
ePSXe Team.

Whoa Great news ePSXe was soo good on PC. Can't wait for xperia play support.
Someone tested with final fantasy 9 ??
Does anyone know, how parasite eve 2 runs? Is it possible to get to dryfield? With fpse it doesn't load after aya leave the building

support Xperia Play joystick now
1.7.6 support Xperia Play joystick now.
Environment music and sound are great than FPSE.
But stage change in game is small lag than FPSE.
Anyone I like ePSXe, ePSXe shows perfect experience for game playing.
Does it support touchpads? This could be a fantastic when they implent touchpads support!
Wysyłane z mojego R800i za pomocą Tapatalk 2
Speedwise it runs perfectly, but CDDA sounds are a bit buggy. But for now, it's looks promising and could turn out to be better than FPSe.
This is a really cool idea!
Not sure how well it would work in real life though
It's good to have an alternative to fpse since psx4droid didn't work on GB 2.3.4
I just bought the app to give it a whirl. So far Crash bandicoot 2 runs sweet as a nut. Testing chrono cross right now which also seems pretty spot on!
There are a few little audio niggles but I can live with that.
Also latest version has button mapping!
For people who are intrested i'm using the AOKP version of ICS. I haven't over clocked my CPU either
The hardware buttons work fine, also it's possible to map volume buttons as R2 and L2.
Unlike FPSe you can use and map the circle button normally (IMO).
Also the emulator has preview screenshots in Load State menu. :good:
The bad part: The game doesn't pause when you press the Menu button
Soul Reaver: The game flashes when you play it.

In Soul Reaver the FMV's are blinker.

I have FPse installed and already map the volume buttons as R2 and L2. I also have no problem mapping the circle button. Though I've read people moaning about it, is that a problem related to ICS rom or something?

in FPSe the R1 and R2 buttons work fine, my only problem is the circle. I uninstalled it and reconfigure it and don't solve.
ePSXe work fine with the HW buttons and Castlevania SOTN and Thread of Fate.

I'm aware of what you said the problem was. My question was, is it a general problem or one related to ICS? since I've had no such problem with GB.

I've Jelly2Bean 2.3.4 rom. But not problem, I put my trust in this emulator.
What about the 2 player mode? it sounds awesome.

Very good emulator. Graphics aren't anything to write home about at the minute, but it's super reliable. Suikoden 1, which has sound skip on FPSE and native emulator, plays perfectly sound and all. All the 3D Final Fantasys too.
Haven't found a game that it doesn't play perfectly yet.
This works really well tried marvel vs capcom mgs vr missions dino crisis and star wars episode one

Working great on Samsung Galaxy SIII (USA Verizon SCH-I535 ICS 4.0.4), besides aforementioned audio hiccups.
Is there a way to use the analog sticks from my bluetooth gamepad?
This sounds good.
FPSE is good, but updates seem to make some games work better and some worse. Plus, I hate the way you have to mess with loads of options for each game. Was gutted when my complete Tekken 3 save went missing too.
Think I'll give this a go.
