Hi buds
I bought my xXoom recently, about two weeks, and i been having some questions aboutit.
I dont know if there is really some problem, but i think i should askfirst.
First of all,...
I love to play games and, yesterday, i installed Shadowgun on my device. It was quite cesappointing to see that it runs not with that beautiful graphics, it looks like it needs aanti-aliasing, and the game is runing in 30- fps.
Ok,i tried other games too, and all of them looks like there is a lack of anti aliasing. Is this normal?
Another issue ihave is the web browsing, using default browser and dolphin hd... i must sayit is nothing smooth it freezes for some milliseconds, take a lot of timeto load pages( my internet is 15mb).
And posting this thread using xoom i get a lot of delay while typing.
Please, guys, is this the normalperormane of stock, or there is anyproblemand i should seek RMAA or warranty?
Desperatly need to know. Thanks for the attention.
I hate the stock performance since I've rooted and running overclocked cpu/gpu from almost as soon as I got the Xoom. TIAMAT makes the Xoom fly.
for xda, chg it to classic view.. scroll to the bottom n u will c this option

About the jaggies you're talking about...are you using the zoom in/stretch to fit feature with games/apps that are still only sized for phone screens? Otherwise, the Xoom has a good gpu and graphics are quite smooth if in the right resolution. Also, Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) may fix this issue as it is bridging the divide between phones and tabs.

Hey, bud.
Here you are helping ,me again!
IF there was a "10x Thanks" Buttom i would use it!! =)
Man, i didn't understood the "are you using the zoom in/stretch to fit feature with games/apps that are still only sized for phone screens?".
I'm using Xoom as it came for me. =)
What i really noticed, and, for me, is strange, is that on Youtube, i watched a video of a guy running shadowgun and the performance/overall graphics was a lot better.(you know, what i noticed is that there is a lack of anti-aliasing on the game running on mine) than mine.
And when i run 9mm HD, the situation is worst. It runs at like >30fps.
Well, i will give a try on the root later(just gathering some courage =D) and will post the results.
I really hope an improvement, man, otherwise, such HD games would be impossible to play.
And another problem i noticed, when using the Xoom for a lotta time is that it heats a lot. Not too much , to burn my hands, and that i must to Shut it Down, but enough for me to put it in front of a Fan.
And one last question...
With the Root and OC, the processor's lifetime will lower??
Thanks again, man.

If the app or game is only configured for a phone's resolution, you might see it 'blown up' which may show jaggies. Do you see a little x icon in the system tray, near the clock? If you touch it, it will give you a choice whether to zoom to fit or stretch to fit. Zoom to fit usually looks better.
On the lagginess you are experiencing, I think rooting and overclocking the cpu plus using an over clocked gpu kernel will resolve that problem. If you're running hot, you may be pushing it a bit hard. If you root, you can set a temperature profile so that your clockspeed will decrease once you hit a pre-defined temp.
We don't really know if overclocking will make a lot of difference in the cpu's life...just enjoy at a stable oc speed and if it burns out, get a newer tab.

So, after people started reporting that their benchmarks are in the 3000's, I decided to flash from ginger RC1 and holy cow this is freakin' fast. Even before I ran the quadrant test everything felt so fast. Twice as fast as vegan gingerbread. I wanted to run the quadrant with all the apps and stuff that I'd be running (quickoffice, dolphin, etc.) and holy cow benchmark was still in the 3000's every time.
I ain't moving to any other rom until someone finds something faster.
Does the unit feel warm or hot ? The rated CPU clock speed is 1.2 (or 1.0, not sure). I am a bit concerned about overclocking to 1.5 at higher voltage. In addition, what apps that were slow and are needing this kind of power ?
Thanks
Sweet.. but honestly with out video drivers for gingerbread its utterly pointless for me :O( Keep us updated on how stable it is :O)

Since when did we "need" anything? The gtab will work just fine with the stock rom. But with a custom rom, it works better. The clakulin+clemsyn v3 combo works even better. I just like the raw power that it gives me.
Added by edit.
But to answer your questions, doesn't feel warm or hot to me at all. Battery life is undoubtedly reduced, although I'm still trying to determine by how much. Stand by for this.

I was concerned about heat and the case feels a bit warmer but not significantly. I guess we will see over time. I would say battery life is reduced but I don't have any numbers. The devs have included a nifty OC profile based on battery life. This is my new favorite rom.
This combo is crazy fast. I scored a 3521 on quadrant. I have been running it for 24 hrs now with no issues. Does not seem to be running hot at all. Battery life seems fine but Im sure it is using more juice.

Here. Nuff said.
Edit.
Keep in mind that I've already installed apps like quickoffice and such. In other words, if I had ran this test right after I flashed this rom I'm sure the score would have been higher.
Here you go: 4484, that beats 345 xooms even overclocked . Oh my.
Sorry about the resolution. I didn't know if I posted at full size if the picture would be huge or not.

How the flying pigs did you get it up to 4484?
Ok, so I ran it a few more times and it seemed a little sluggish as I had been putting it through its paces today . I shut it down and rebooted. I just ran it 3 times in a row. My lowest score after letting it sit for a bit was 4521, best of the 3 was 4665! Yikes.

I am also using and loving this rom. Love the smooth video with Froyo (but wish it could work with Ginger).
It feels slightly warmer than before I think, but the temp sensor never reads above 87 degrees F, which has to be a safe operating temp, right?
Consistently getting ~3500 quadrants with many apps.

Listen to me very carefully. The devs are doing this on their own time without getting paid. Us lowly humans don't wish anything. Ok? Clemsyn said he was going to do ginger soon, and that's his choice. We don't wish anything. Ok? He's not obligated to do anything. What he's done for froyo is way way way beyond what he's suppose to do, which is nothing. Ok? He made it clear just last week that his intention was to return the gtab and move on with his life. He then decided to stick around and created new roms that are almost twice as fast as previous roms.
If you're disappointed, then Clemsyn could just drop the whole thing and leave. If you're disappointed, please go buy an ipad 2, ok?
In fact, I highly recommend against getting a gtab for most people. I promise, you will not be disappointed with the ipad 2. Love you long time. Go, put the disappointment of a device gtab up on ebay and go out and buy the ipad 2 now, please, before you get any more disappointed.

Very nice. Xoom owners will hate you for sure.
Thank you and others for posting scores.
Very fast. Always loved Calkulin's ROM, and I've come home after playing with Vegan GB for a while (also a great ROM). It also appears that the OC settings work with pershoot's OC kernel as well. I love the fact that it clocks based on battery life.

Geez guy, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? It's not like he posted a long harrasing write up for Gingerbread. It was subtle just like you should be. Chill out please.
On that note does anyone have a video of this "Beast ROM" in action?
Wish I could get this combo running. I have been running C&C 1.1+v9 for awhile now and love it. I can't get any of the OC kernals running. The only way I can get this to boot is to install the C&C OC combo and before booting I have to install Clemsyn's v9 kernal. I can't get Pershoots 1.4 ghz kernel running either.
The best I have gotten was with the C&C combo and then installing Clemsyn's OC Extra kernal and I can get to the HC animated boot screen but it never gets past that. My son and I bought our gtabs the same day and his runs all the OC kernels.. Oh Well...

I got these too.
To be quite honest i've had the phone since july 5th, stock froyo i dont use that crap of performance pack.
And untill now no issues, fast as hell, around 35 app running with no lags, today i ran a test i opened 20 of my downloaded apps while i was listening music with Winamp, Browsing with the native browser, and downloading 2 songs one with the browser and the other with the Mediafire app, and opened a 3D game and the phone managed to open the game and execute it smoothly; got a little warm but not like the reports that i've been reading here of extremely high temps.
Having said that i cannot wait untill Gingerbread with full support for dualcores is out.
Overall is a superb phone, feels like a brick in your hand, very fast, excellent design, bright and responsive screen.
Im very pleased with this handset.
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA App
I'm not sure about this "full support for dual-cores" business as being sat on top of Linux a lot of the OS should already be utilising dual core. In fact it MUST be, as things like UAE4Android runs games full speed yet on my N900 overclocked to 1Ghz it could not, so clearly its utilising both cores.
You will notice despite running Android 2.2.2 the O3D is running the same kernel version as 2.3.4 (which doesn't necessarily mean it is IDENTICAL to the kernel 2.3.4 uses, I do not know). So the O3D is likely already benefiting from all the SMP kernel enhancements from Gingerbread.
Of course it might be Dalvik that required rewriting for dual-core, in which case some apps will certainly see a boost in performance. I have no idea how to tell what apps are using native code vs Java code.
This discussion also makes me wonder what on earth is going on: http://groups.google.com/group/android-platform/browse_thread/thread/b754408b9af17e55?pli=1
The phone is fast enough as it is I just want it to have slightly better battery as its poor, so hoping the move to 2.3 will help out as its got better power management.
So you think those problems are rooted in the performance pack? If so I should get rid of it as I have quite few random boot ups

Though I used to play lots of games, I have not had a chance to play them for awhile. I certainly did not buy tablet for the purpose of gaming but the other day I saw pretty stunning graphics and decent review about "Horn", so I ended up purchasing it.
Let's talk about some positive aspect of the Infinity, which is "gaming".
1. Tegra Zone
Tegra chips being the major line of Android Tablet, slowly but surely seem to see a growth of Tegra optimized games. Some of these are quite impressive in its graphics even compared to the portable gaming devices.
I only have one game from Tegra Zone, which is "Horn" but its quick and easy to play with stunning graphics. The other game I am looking forward to is Wild Blood, which uses Unreal Engine.
Hardware wise, other high end android tablets should have no issue supporting these games, but simply due to number of devices out there, I believe Tegra chip based device continues to see its exclusive support on high end tablet gaming.
2. Playstation Mobile Certified
The launch date has just been announced as 10/3 during Tokyo Game Show.
Though not specifically stated Infinity is one of the device included, ASUS is one of the company included in the playstation mobile certified device developer so it is natural to think Infinity be one of the device supported.
Personally, no big game at this point yet but certainly nice expansion to have.
Here is the list of games currently on market (presumably for Sony's Tablet S): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Mobile_games
The official list of new games with launch in Japan can be seen here: http://www.jp.playstation.com/psn/psm/
There will be around 30 games or so initially, and more to come with developer kit releasing in November to further stimulate the game development on Android devices.
Update:
9/24/2012
According to zenaxe, EA games are not compatible with Transformer Infinity. So if you intend to play their games, this would be minus point.
Considering that at current state I cannot play any game no longer than 5 minutes before crashing, I am not so keen about gaming on this tablet anymore.
Also it doesn't make any sense why some people can play and others don't. Before update also no problems with my gaming..

Well Square Enix has its own online store so not sure if they will continue to use it or jump onto the Playstation Mobile bandwagon. Though there is almost no doubt that they will continue support Android as supposedly FFIII alone made them $700,000 in first a few weeks just on Android platform.

Is there a specific game that you cannot play? I can give a try if its free to see if its an issue across the board.
So far I have no issue playing any of games I installed, which are not many a few Japanese specific games, FF III, and most recently Horn. I have never had any crash or force close on any of these games. But I have not made any build prop change other than market place change. I'm on stock rom .30 version with bloatware turned off.

Well the worst thing is that it is not consistant. I can get every game crash and yet if I reboot the machine than I can play every game.
Have had crashes with every single game I have played. But if I reboot and then start playing no problems. I dont think that high end tablet should work like this especially when the booting time is actually quite slow..

Well I agree. What's tough here is probably depending on what you have installed in background etc. But either way, with high end tablet that should not matter.. I don't have much running in background. Bloatware turned off. Only real widget I have is news 360 and ASUS weather. Also, I have tons of video and ebooks, which I store in microsd rather than harddrive. So my harddrive still have tons of space open. You don't have build.prop tweak do you? Because I did that before and I had my first ever random os reboot afterwards. So this time I have not touched anything on build.prop. (Though it may had nothing to do with..)
One thing that your case raises concern is, is there any memory leak? (I don't know how Android OS deals with memory leak).

No build props or anything. Completely stock.
But yes i have quite a lot of widgets. It could be that they hog memory and result in bad user experience while gaming.
HD widgets, business calendar, gmail, email, youtube, zinio, g+, facebook, flighttrack and hanping chinese..
It could be that these reserve memory and then when playing games problems start. Nevertheless I have quite similar widgets on my phone and there no problems.
Maybe should try without widgets how it goes..

Maybe you have memory leak or memory hog. Also, one thing I really noticed performance difference is turning bloatware off. Afterall, Infinity only has 1GB RAM, which is still standard but not that much memory if you think about. But try with widget off, and potentially bloatware off and see if you can fix the issue. As I am sure it would be helpful to others.

LOL. GAMING is the only thing I'm completely UNSATISFIED with on the Infinity. Nearly every console style game I own crashes. Trying to demo it for someone is a freaking exercise in embarrassment. EA has even marked the 700 as incompatible on a lot of their stuff where it was compatible with previous TFs.
This is a systemic problem, btw, it is not a "bad" tablet. I have owned five TF series tablets and every single one of them has been exactly like this. So, really gaming is probably the last thing I would call out as a bright spot on the ASUS tabs.

Well I guess you are probably correct as majority of US user probably favors EA games over the PS games or Tegra games. I would admit that I play non of EA games, so I did not know. All I know is there were issue with playing Horn (Tegra optimized game) on Galaxy Note 10.1, which has better overall processing power and hardware.
Having said that, I know there are games I cannot play from Japanese store as simply not made for tablet and probably never will. So yes. you are correct on that regard. I will add EA incompatibility. Thanks for the info.

Oh... You didn't have to root. You could turn off bloatware without rooting. But now since you have rooted, I recommend browser2ram.apk, which boosts browser performance somewhat. But I really think the most effective thing I did was turning off bloatware. Build.prop tweak is supposedly great too, but I haven't done it and performance is still what I wanted to be so I'd rather not touch anything extra.
But I'm glad, you got it work and Horn is cool game isn't it? (It was sort of my main theme for this thread...)

So as part of my other thread, I actually did couple additional testing (mainly for I/O effect). I run 1.1GB file transfer over the AirDroid in background and launched Final Fantasy 3, which had no issue. In fact, I couldn't even tell the difference in launching speed and actual game play compared to no background.
On the contrary, launching of Horn took much longer and I saw ANR, which I have not seen for a while on my infinity. So basically, I hypothesize here that some of your application in background may have high I/O access or you have memory leak in your application. The latter is not proven here.
But in any event, even on my machine which generally runs Horn totally fine can become problematic when you have stress in a background so definitely I think something in your background is the issue, which you may well know already but just wanted to let you know that I can sort of confirm this.

But remember this only works if you root the system and have superuser access. If you feel like your browser is running fine, you may not even need this. I do feel like I got performance boost on stock browser, but other browser's like Boat browser seems pretty much the same (relatively fast before and still equally fast).

Just a heads up that browser 2 ram will not have any impact on gaming, it could even theoretically have a negative impact on it if it fragments memory or causes less to be available for other process somehow... but it should help www browsing that is limited by eMMC I/O. I do not have many issues with browsing performance so I don't find b2ram to be very useful personally..
On the other hand, bloatware removal could theoretically help with games since it might reduce memory fragmentation over time by reducing the number of apps and services running (I have done this but it hasn't had a measurable impact for me).
Also, be aware that build.prop tweaks do have a non-zero risk associated with them. I have soft bricked a TF before with a bad build.prop edit. Make sure you have a working adb/fastboot setup at the very least before doing a build.prop hack.
Something easy to try that might really work: Get FMR memory cleaner from the market. Run it before running your game. Also, if it is crashing right at startup try clearing its cache/data (you will lose any save games/data, if you do this, though).

May be you can answer. What's the IO issue that you are facing right now? As I write more about this, and test... I am start getting a bit lost. Because when I had original two units back in July and August, I got constant ANR with browser, PDF file reading. System almost froze while I download applications from market.
I have stock with browser2ram, bloatware turned off, but no build.prop tweaks, and essentially don't see any of above anymore. The game I cannot play is simply I cannot. It's just not supported on this device. But games that runs, runs smoothly like Horn, which is probably one of the most high end graphics game right now until Unreal Engine 3 game released.
As far as your theory of eMMC affecting browser is something I am not so certain. Simply because if that is the case why would some browsers works much faster such as Firefox (which crashes too often so I don't use) but fast. Boat browser, which is stable and fast. Sure they are not as fast as Galaxy Note 10.1 stock browser, but in galaxy note 10.1, I didn't even noticed much difference in speed between the stock and other third party browsers. Sure sunspider test results were different but practical loading page speed, I couldn't tell the difference so I kept using stock on Note. Could this have been because better eMMC? I have a feeling not. Again because if that's the case all third party browser should be even much faster on that device. Would it be because of 2GB ram? Don't know. Could be but browser application demanding such huge RAM seem a bit too excessive. So my guess is actually Samsung's software. The touch wiz is highly customized on their platform like stock video player, stock browser can support multitask. So Samsung definitely went into source code level of those application and edited. So during that process, they may have optimized the browser. How can I confirm this? Probably no way unless I can talk to Samsung Developer, but it's probably same as the logic of blaming on eMMC.
Any tools to check which applications use I/O in the background?

I just bought this device as a toy and a test as a computer tablet. I found it to be slow and buggy. I do notice that in browsing heavy pages like the real facebook page it IS faster than my Galaxy Note 1 but in almost everything else, the Note is faster and snappier. I have disabled lots of apps, resett it, no change. So my question, I guess this one is really worth rooting and installing a good rom Im used to the Cyanogen to my phones, is Cyanogen working good for this tablet?
Im still marveled by the quality of the screen, I dont think I ever have seen such a good screen! If I just now could get it working somewhat near as good as my Note 1 I will be a happy panda
Thanx in advance peeps
My experience is that it is NOT slow and buggy.
I could compare it with an iPad3 last week and I think they are very close.
You can't compare it with a note because due to the much higher resolution the gpu has to do so much more computing. That is why the nexus7 is faster than the tf700 due to it's smaller screen AND resolution

I'm on stock rom with browser2ram and force2gpu enabled. My table is very fast. Just remember before you flash a new rom, just do factory reset(data wipe 3 times). Also root is good (allow you to install rooted app like Titinium backup, SetcPU etc..), but don't unlock unless absolutely necessary (void your warranty), or you have time or like to play with custom rom.
Ok, sounds like I will root it then and try to tweak it, Im not satisfied with the speed with it sofar. Its seems stable now after I resetted it, before the reset, it crasched 2-10 times a day. My idea was that since the GPU and CPU is older in the Note, The Tegra 3 would be able to handle the FullHD resolution but it doesnt seem to .. I definatly want a ROM without the garbage crap
I plan to use it to write alot on, can you recommend a good office app? Or a browser that google docs work good with
Is games running good for you?? The new demanding ones I tried before resetting was really slow and laggy.
Thanx for the replys, I hope I get this baby running smoother

Yes, all games, videos, pictures, and documents and apps are function normally. There are 3 most popular office apps:
1. Documents to go (this can view google docs also. Paid version only)
2. Kingsoft office
3. Polaris office (currently polaris has a bug with fonts).
My stock browser can view google docs fine. I think stock browser is the best in my opinion (have tried boat, chrome, mozilla etc...)

The Infinity's performance is not CPU bound and is not due to the higher res. It's I/O limited. The CPU is plenty fast enough. As soon as the memory config requires the system to start hitting the /sdcard memory, the system will be subject to random stuttering/pausing because the sdcard memory is the cheapest, slowest, crappiest flash RAM ASUS could find.
This is why stuff like browser2ram is seen as a huge boost for people that do a lot of browsing and it is also why the stuttering varies from user to user/session to session since the RAM situation in the system varies from config to config and moment to moment during use. Some users who's config has a lot of free DRAM and do not frequently use stuff that hits the sdcard partition hard, see almost no performance issues with the tablet.

Well,
I guess I'm going to do the downgrade to ICS .30\root\then try the rootkreeper deal back to Belly Jean.
I really don't want to go thru all this, but if I want to keep chipping away trying to find a better Android experience then so be it.
Pain in the ass...
Thanx for the info! That was my biggest thoughts about the Infinity, "is the RAM enough?" and it isnt but then Ill just have to multitask less and try to tweak it. And perhaps dont install multipicture wallpaper.. but thats one of the things that I love about my Note
buhoitr: thanx for the suggestions, Ill try them and see
What rom would you suggest for getting the most out of the Infinity?

Hmmm, I've found mine to be quick and virtually bug-free, but then again I didn't buy it as a toy.
A little tweaking and I wouldn't call it slow. Even stock its a solid piece of equipment.
Apply data2sd mod built for CleanROM 2 after installing the ROM. You'll need a fast sd card.
Research the threads. The blob for data2sd for that ROM was just posted today.
look at my I/O!

I own both the Infinity and the Acer a700 and after the a700 got JB earlier today, I will say that the Infinity lags more than the a700 (and I was very happy with the Infinity). Colour me shocked.
The only time I really ever experience any lag or sluggishness is when browsing. I will be rooting once there is a method discovered for Jelly Bean on the Infinity. I'd really like to give browser2ram a shot. I've heard it does wonders for browsing.

Better than ever
Before i say thing, I will list the important things about my tablet - C7 model, Has been repaired for speaker issues & Jelly bean 4.1.1. I'd say TF700T is a powerful device, It lacks the software for it. I use to notice quiet a bit of lag on ICS but after upgraded to Jelly bean, It's faster than ever! I would even compare it to iPad 3:laugh: I'm running Stock Jelly bean with a bit of removing apps here and there.
I Don't know why everyone is having problems with such a decent device.

I you guys would read the Development section (read the newer threads, please) you would see that CleanROM2.2 has pretty much completely eliminated the lag and i/o issues. It's reason enough to root and unlock. This tablet is a beast when it is allowed to begin to reach its full potential.

I think CleanROM 2.2 is the route I'm going to go too...that's if I can figure out how to do it without asking a bunch of dumbs**t questions.
Still reading about it in development.
I'm getting more and more disappointed with this TF700T each time I turn it on lately...
Did really dig it for a while...not anymore
Will i unlock? No...

If it was really laggy and something that i can't deal with i would unlock but since it feels flawless, I might stay. I don't give a crap about their warranty but i do care for my device (brick)

It's the total opposite for me. ICS was fast and virtually lag-free. The latest updates to Jellybean my Infinity lags like nobody's business. Very disappointing. Looks like root'n'rom time.

What is force2gpu?
(google seems to give irrelevant results).

If I may attempt an answer,
I believe that's a reference to the "force gpu rendering" in settings under developer options.

As we are too well aware, the A700 isn't the quickest tablet around. A problem fixed quite largely by using the Cool One firmware and the Tegra OC kernel. But there is something else you could try; Seeder which has recently garnered quite some attention.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032
I couldn't notice too much difference in my short time using it. Launching and using Chrome might be a little quicker and Maps may be a little faster but some have reported large gains with it, so why not give it a shot? nb. It requires root. And do let us know here and in the original thread how its goes for you.
ps. Seeder seems to turn itself off after resetting the device so be sure to check if it is turned on.

I'm currently running IconiaN 2.4 and I installed Seeder a little while ago via CWM and tried a few things. Maps is definitely faster like most have said. I played a couple games and I found Edge and Edge Extended to be roughly the same, Pitfall is the same, Beach Buggy Blitz is the same, and so is Sword and Sworcery. TigerArcade (a Mame type emulator) runs WAAAY better now, not sure why, but it might be because the games I'm playing use a caching system to load on the emulator. I'm going to try Need for Speed Most Wanted as that ran like garbage last time I played it and I hope it may be slightly better this time around. Non gaming apps: Youtube is lot more responsive than it used to be, ES File Explorer seems faster as well, not 100% sure, Android Browser and Chrome both seem roughly the same but haven't done extensive testing. Lastly unlocking and hitting home from within apps is definitely smoother and faster like others have been saying.
My recommendation is to go ahead and give it a go as it seems like its worth it, plus if there are updates to it that make it any better you can just CWM those right over the current version with no need to wipe cache or data at all.:cyclops:
Thanks for recommending this. Will try.
