I have a atrix and got ATT to send me a free inspire. Long story.
Anyways on Atrix really only 2 ROM Gingerblur and Greyblur. They are both great and about 99% use one of those.
Then there is gingerbreak to root it. Very easy one at that. Then you are pretty much done since you cant over clock it.
Looking at the inspire dev section is crazy next to atrix. The whole first page is all diff rooms.
I can assume the thread with the most post is the best one but could be wrong. Also since i can overclock the inspire might be some diff options.
Here is what I like to do.
1. Root
2. Over clock
3. custom nice stable rom
4. I am somewhat noob as I had blackberry prior to feb atrix so dont want any of the above steps to be so high level i cant figure it out and brick my new phone.

Note, this is all preference-based. You should try out several ROMs and decide for yourself.
Thats about the worst way to decide on a rom, half the people flash roms cause of the name, just try a few. once your rooted, flashing different roms is the easy part. And the kernel is what's gonna make your phone faster and improve battery, not really the rom.

I'm having trouble finding a ROM better than RCMix HD. I've tried many others but keep going back to capy and friends.
Plus rumor has it capy is uploading the first working Sense 3.0 rom as I type. Soo excited!

Root it, then start playing with different ROMs. Personally I stay away from ROMs that use or have parts of HTC Sense in them. No need to OC the phone it's fast enough.
I've been using CM7 for the last few weeks. I've had good luck with Cognition HD and LeeDrOiD 4G 2.2.
i keep going back to cm7. just root and flash away and see what you do and don't like about the roms out there. just make sure if you flash kernnels to make sure they'll work with whatever you are currently running

I just tried out TPGB-CM20110506 and I'm not digging the theme... restoring CM7 right now.
When I had my EVO I went Senseless (as CM6 didn't work right for it). Basically as pure android as you could get, but you had the Sense dialer and contacts, which I loved. Ever since then, I've been using CM7 on my Mytouch 4g and then my Inspire, but I think I might try a sense based ROM tonight for fun.
Honestly, try CM7, try MIUI (you either love it or hate it, I think it's gorgeous but impractical), then try a sense based rom like inspired or RCMix. You've got all these options and they're all free, so why not try them all? This isn't Apple, or even Moto and their locked bootloader; see what fits YOU best, not what someone SAYS fits you best.
My best advice is to try out a bunch of different roms and find which one you like best. Personally, I prefer CoreDroid roms with Sense. They run smooth, have great optimizations and eye candy, and the development team does an amazing job bringing new things to their roms and fixing bugs fast.
IMO best rom is coredroid v6.0 with the leedroid 3.0.1 kernel
I was using rcmix hd till the new coredroid came out ... I would start with one of those two.
I like the RCMix with evolutionary Sense, great ROM.
i'm all about cm7, but this miui **** is so slick. just started playing with it today.
Take your time with rooting. It was the longest process I've ever experienced with a phone, but worth it. Once you're rooted flashing new rom's is a snap so try them all. I like anything that doesn't have Sense in it. Also, I OC'd for a bit but found it to be pointless because the phone is plenty fast for what I need it to do. Basically, just root and try some stuff. Have fun. Read the instructions of everything. And BACKUP!
MR2 will be coming via OTA in the next couple of days MR2 has been through four different revisions and will be based on the 1.70.xx code. There are a number of fixes but the most important should be fixing the reboots and improving the 4G/3G transitions.
I know everyone is waiting for GB which is MR3, but it still needs some time. The good news is that it is being worked on it is already on its fifth SW revision.
Awesome. I can wait for GB no problem, I just want a fix for the reboots. I'm sick of my phone rebooting 5+ times a day, happy an update is coming soon.

OR... you could just scoot on over to the dev forum and pick yourself up a spiffy new rom built on MR2 which is quite solid and fast and will use the same or very similar radios to what will be in the OTA. I tried a couple of them. They are spartan on fancy stuff, but they are reliable if nothing else. Possibly the most functional and reliable roms over there.
Why does someone always have to pop intro threads like this and state the obvious. I'm sure everyone with a Thunderbolt that frequents these forums is aware that rooting and installing a custom rom is an option. Some people have their reasons for wanting to stay stock.
I for one am still stock because this is the first phone I've had in quite a while that the stock rom is quite good. I spent a long time on WinMo, so I am used to custom roms just the make the device functional. Right now custom roms on the TB are mostly just different, not necessarily a huge need to me (GB roms are debatable on this point).
Once the custom roms offer something I want that I can't get from stock (and mature a bit more), I'm sure I'll root and rom. For now I'm enjoying stock stability and a working camera. Just because someone can do something doesn't make it something they need to do.

My thoughts exactly. Sure I would like to avoid the reboots (given I have had 2 in a 3 week period), and maybe a faster better radio, but the software and sense is so solid.

Coming from HTC devices like the 8525, ATT Tilt, and Touch Pro 2, Ive just about had my share of ROMs for a lifetime. I just want something that works. After paying all this money, Im gonna let Verizon and HTC do what they're supposed to do.

I agree with wanting an official update, but the stock rom is far from good. Yes the speed is good but the battery life is horrible. With custom roms I have been able to triple my battery life and limit the random reboots I was getting stock, along with the already good speed being improved. Das BAMF Stripped 1.8

agreed. So far only 1 reboot in 2 weeks (apparently that is good) and I get occasional instances where home button doesn't want to work.
I just wish the damn thing rebooted faster. It takes almost 2 minutes to boot, then another couple of minutes before sense is responsive.
Coming from the hd7 and 25 second boot times, this is killer...
I also made/used custom roms on my q9c, tp2 and hd2, but want to give stock a chance. Maybe I will root if I decide I need to tether, but so far, things are looking good stock.

"mr2" we leaked on the forums is NOT mr2. 1.66/1.67/1.68/1.69 will not be MR2.
I can confirm OP's comments on the current "mr2" candidate version number, and give a approximate release of july 6th. With verizon things are given to change, the release date can change, so can the version being released.

His comment was pretty blunt/unhelpful and rude, but there does tend to be some complaining from those that want to have their cake (those that don't want to root) and eat it too (still want updates/workarounds as quick as those that have root).
Those that seem to be frustrated by such things, perhaps android is not the phone for them or at least android phones that are not officially blessed by google (nexus phones).
I am sure some a gearing up on the ICS roms but over all there just doesnt seem to be a whole lot out there for the phone as far as roms go. I completely respect the work that has been done and am certainly grateful! However...my G2 seemed like it had a new rom out everyday with so many options to choose from. Maybe it just felt that way because it was my first Android phone but honestly I still visit those forums and see new roms coming out. For the Sensation they all seem the same with very minimal tweaks to the device. Are we still waiting on something or is this phone left in the dust with all the new phones(amaze, SGSS2, etc. etc. )? Just wanted a most likely more informed opinion then my own
What more can this phone do it will match any newer phone out. There is only so much u can do on a phone and most roms are at a stable state so there is nothing left to add. We still see a couple roms updated a week which isn't baf.its just slowed because there is nothing else to add all the roms have everything already

I just know with my G2 I was able to find a couple that I was more then content with. (I know STFU and go back to your G2 then) I love the Sensation...just looking for that happy medium that I haven't quite found yet I guess.
I think you have to look better. There is still much development going on, many ROMs out there. In the last days there have not been many updates, as there were no new leaks from HTC or from anywhere. But the kernel devs are still developing like hell.
For me my ROM is very stable, I don't miss anything what could be done on ROM-base. So why updates, updates and updates? Never change a winning team
After testing a lot of ROMs, most of them are already quite stable... Don't think there's much to work on. It's a good thing no?

I guess you haven't heard about ics source being out and a rom. being developed right now for it?
I'd say it's pretty far from being dead... There are some pretty good ROM options out there... InsertCoin, Android Revolution HD...which really make the device shine on a whole new level... And something brand new comes along every week or 2...
I guess if you're looking to download a new ROM every day, you might consider it dead...but then again, who'd want to switch ROMs every day? I, for once, am content with the current plateau...it lets me actually USE my phone...rather than keeping it plugged in and flashing/reflashing all the time...
Anyway, stay tuned...
Well, developement isn't dead, but it's booooring as hell compared to what Desire was/is. That's the problem with having current high end phone, there isn't much stuff to port.
It just look boring because most of the roms are the same as in sense 3.5 wich cant be fully theme yet. Almost every rom is stock sense 3.5, thats why i`m still on sense 3.0 because it can be fully customize. Nobody is trying to make their roms look different like on the desire forum and other forums. There can be many sense 3.5 roms but if they all look different than it will look like a lot of developement is going on but because they look the same makes it look like nothing is going on.

There is a rooted stock ROM, there are about 4 Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.7 based ROMs with full Sense UI, there are two direct CM7 ports, there are at least 2 Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.7 with some or all Sense UI components stripped.
I really don't know what you're expecting. We have basically everything you could hope for at this point.
If you don't mind going without Sense, I highly recommend HyperSensation, as I've seen between 14-25hrs of battery life on a single charge depending on usage (14hrs being with constant, heavy usage and long phone calls over 3G).
While ROM development has certainly slowed down, the kernel devs are still releasing betas every couple of days, which in my opinion is more exciting because the kernel side has a more direct effect on speed and battery life.
I'd say just find a stable build and run with it while we wait for ICS stuffs to be released.
By the way, have you checked out the MiUI build that MiUI.us is putting out there? It is by far my favorite rom to use (yes you can theme it to NOT look like an iPhone lol) and it's fast with excellent battery life. The only thing that keeps me from making it my daily is the need for a good camera with full HD recording, which Scott and TD are actively working on. I have two young kids under 2 years old, so I kind of need that stuff haha.
For what it's worth, my daily now is ARHD 3.6.7 with Faux's 0.2.5.5. Excellent stability, speed and battery life so far has been awesome.
Since ICS source is out I doubt any Devs would continue work on Gingerbread based ROMs. The reason Desire has more development is all the Sense 2.5+ ROMs are ports and so require fixing and more development. Since Senny is a stock Sense 3 phone there is nothing that can be added that aint already been done.
Once ICS development gets going we will see more ICS stock ROMS.
ICS will be better on Sensation. +trolface+

While I agree this phone isn't completely dead, you should look at some other phones out there. The vibrant for example or desire have had and still have more and more diversified roms. Most of our sensation roms are just sense over and over again. Anyway just my 2 cents.

Seems to be related to Sense being more popular on Sensation than other phones, in this case the users here lack interest in CM & AOSP & MIUI. There is some interest but that doesn't make up the majority of the users of Sensation; I find it quite odd since normally MIUI & Vanilla would have more users than the stock UIs(based on my past phone experiences). If people cared more for CM/MIUI/AOSP, then development may be much better, a new MIUI ROM would be made every week by TheDerekJay when I had MT4G, and I miss this kind of updating on my Sensation. Not to say devs here don't update, can't really say the rate of updates is equal IMO.
Ive enjoyed all the development that goes on for sensation. Was this thread posted before actually looking at the dev section??? 2 pages of roms are at least updated every 2 weeks

there r many roms running sense 3.0 / 3.5 but all of them resemble each
and the development for ICS it's slow in Sensation
there r many devices run ICS with working touch screen and every day have update .. last ICS update for ICS before 5 days and i think the rom not a flashable file
I bought the Sensation to replace my Desire, and it's true that I am a bit disappointed after the number of ROM available for Desire ... but Sensation's ROM are very good, I miss a really stable AOSP ROM and it could be perfect!
ROMs have gotten to the point where they are pretty much stable, what more can you ask for?

I need someone to convince me *not* to undo whatever is necessary in order to install a stock HTC ROM so that I can get the official OTA ICS release as an OTA update (now available for TMoUS Sensation owners, I believer).
For some months now I've greatly enjoyed playing with any number of ROMs, changing firmware, tryings mods and so on. In fact, I've got a nicotine-like addiction to flashing ROMs. After a nice meal, I like to change ROMs on my phone. When I get home from work, I enjoy relaxing with a new ROM. That sort of thing.
But now I'm starting to want to put everything in reverse so that I can have HTC or TMoUS or whoever update my phone from stock GB+Sense to stock ICS+Sense.
I need somebody to persuade me not to do that and to assure me that I'm better off as I am, freely sampling any and all sorts of custom ROMs, most of which perform better than stock, anyway.

A. Embrace the stock lifestyle where your phone is what it is until htc & tmo say you can change it. You run the risk of loosing root. Ifyou try to go back to S-ON (you S-OFF?) you run the risk of bricking.
B. Stay rooted. Install a stock+rooted ICS rom and you'll have basically the same thing minus wifi calling with the option to change roms if stock sucks.

Sounds like you do have a serious addiction. Tried joining Flashers Anonymous? LOL!
Not sure if I can convince you not to undo your deeds and return to the stock flock just to get official ICS. If "official" doesn't matter much to you, you'll be better off as a flasher. For one, custom ROMs are more up-to-date than official ROMs. In the case of my Sensation XE, for example, it never received any upgrade (from HTC) to any Android version beyond 2.3.5--and this was at a time that many other phones already had Android 2.3.6, or better yet, 2.3.7.
Now I have ICS (Android 4.0.3) on my Sensation XE. But, Google just released Android 4.0.4. I can only imagine how long it will take for HTC to send me that. And, I'm sure custom ROM developers are already swooping in on 4.0.4 as we speak.
But, if "official" is big for you, then you can go for it. If not for the warranty or for the presumed stability of "official" firmware, then at least for the thrill of being able to undo what you have done. If the official updates leave a bad taste in your mouth, you can always go back to your old flashing habits. And, that, too, would be thrilling, I suppose.
My first experience in rooting was paying someone to hack the original Iphone, so that I could use my tmobile sim card. Since then I have rooted 2 galaxy tabs, 4 my touch 4g's and my own sensation, installing roms, learning adb commands etc. I can honestly say that in every instance all the devices ran far better with a custom, non-official rom. I received a replacement mytouch 4g for warranty repair and could not believe how slow and buggy it was when I received it with the official software and update.

Anyway, I just needed a few of you to talk sense into me (no pun intended).
So, I'm staying with the freewheeling lifestyle of custom ROMs.

Going back to stock is exactly like going back to that EX girlfriend, Except this time she's picked up Aids from 'Bob' who works at the local junk yard..
You might be curious to see what sleeping with an AIDS infested girl is like, But in the long run, your pinky will probably fall off...
Its the same as going back to stock..... People who have stock ROMs have no pinky.

You can prefer whatever you personally like. Unfortunately you are currently stuck with what you've got until 2.20 is rooted and bl unlocked so you can flash away and find the rom that suits your needs best.

But to add an opinion about your question, once you flash a new rom, you'll probably stick with it for a little while. Then see something else and try it. Then you'll get that blood taste in your mouth and become a flash a holic. Lol. There are some absolutely INCREDIBLE sense roms. Viperxl, cleanrom, team nocturnal are some of the few. But then you'll get tired of sense and try an aosp ROM and you'll love that. Its a weird process bro. I feel like I flash every 2-3 weeks, bouncing from jellybean to sense. Both are awesome.

Honestly man, I am a serious flashaholic, and although in no way am I implying that stock is better in any fashion I will say that stock 2.20 has been a pleasure to be on. So much so that I have set aside ALL of my other toys and been using my One X full time. granted I am using Apex launcher only because it achieves a basic look I am used to, but that is it. I am actually really enjoying this, if nothing else EVERYTHING works. My battery hasnt been this good on any rom or any of my previous devices. I had 5 hours 48 minutes screen on time last night, sure I only talked on my phone about 2 minutes, and kept my screen brightness on 10%, but for me, that is still the most insane number I have EVER been able to put up and the phone was on 18% when I plugged it in.
I dont know if this phone will ever get rooted but it is not stopping me from using it, I have found cool apps that I would have never known even existed like Notification Toggle, I was getting pretty annoyed having to use a power control widget for my data and wifi, I NEED it to be in the dropdown, the app remedied that situation AND I can make it whatever color I want....HUGE bonus to me. I love Android, and like I said, it is not a replacement for roms, but its a fine substitution for now. The phone performs sweet so its not like I would need to overclock, undervolting, I have never liked the amount of BS you have to wade through to get it perfect, and battery has been fine for me anyway.
Sure a nice CLEAN CM rom, or even stripped stock, is nice but I am just going to enjoy using this thing for a while. Being a Sammy fanboy forever has given me the ability to flash a thousand roms, and although there is some things to be missed, I have no regrets about this phone. I personally dont have devices long enough to think like it is going to kill me to use it for a while. It looks beautiful, not a lot of people have them, so everywhere I go people are asking what phone I have....which....yeah, I think is cool, and everyone likes it.
Last, for me personally the phone has caused me to start peering into areas I have not even thought about in a long time, I have spent countless hours reading thread after thread for possible ways we can get this bootloader unlocked or even root this puppy. It has actually been nice spending time doing, what I joined XDA to learn about doing .
As mentioned, if you bought the phone with 2.20 (or OTA'ed to 2.20 before unlocking the bootloader or at least SuperCID) than you can't flash anything. You are stuck to official AT&T firmware.
The 2.29 stock firmware you linked is not much different from 2.20 AT&T stock, anyway. I think they are the same, actually, aside from AT&T's bloatware.
Coming from an Aria with CM7, the biggest things I want to fix on my One X with 2.20 is to ditch the bloat. This phone rocks very nicely even on the stock ROM, but it's like a car with enough power to do 200 mph limited to 155.
If there is any way a relative noob like myself can help with getting 2.20 rooted, I'm in, but I wouldn't know where to start at this point.
