ICS port possible? - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

I know the news has been going about that official source has been released for ICS an course like a lot of other people are wondering what it can be ported over to. Now me i personally have no clue how to translate all the technobabble dealing with creating roms from source but I'm sure there people here that do understand it all what would it take to get ICS on our phones? Like i said i have no clue in reality what goes into rom creating with phone drivers an framework tweaking (i know our phone is "special") but just curious.

Nobody here can get gingerbread on it let alone ics. Don't hold your breathe for either one. Lol

Definitely not impossible. Just need the right people to work on it.

You can't go from froyo --> ICS , it'll be impossible you need to work with GB --> ICS if your doing a SDK port , if your doing a source then i don't know .

Well making a ICS port for the sidekick i'd hope it be using the source since then with source you could create a kernal aswell a the rom

ask anyone who has ported a SDK , your going to need to work with a AOSP base or perferably CM7 base w/ a CM7 kernel , you don't know what your talking about .

well isn't the issue with GB that we DON"T have the source code for GB so you can't hand make a kernal for our device? While with ICS with the source out we could hand make the kernal and the roms so they work on out system if i'm understanding how to create a android rom an kernal correctly its easier to work from source then from SDKs or porting a rom from another.

The issue with porting GB is that we don't have a source designed for our phone. there's all sorts of GB sources released, but none that have been designed for our phone. That ICS source is the same source that CM is based on, it's AOSP (all open source project), but it still requires a newer kernel.

I cannot share them exactly... i got them from a Paid Application called Absolute System. It's a root tool I strongly recommend this app. But anyway i can share a link with you from a flashable .zip here on XDA.

I too use that font. If you are going to use the flashable zip on a gingerbread rom you have to downgrade to cwr 2.5.1.x with amend script support.
there is a pure 2.3 gingerbread that faux put out. its not CM or anything its a base ASOP thats been built straight from google code if you want to check it out. its in the rom development area.
Yeah, was going to recommend Faux's AOSP build in the dev section. I haven't used it, but it is probably as close to pure AOSP as you are going to get and still be functional. Check it out.
Don't forget about ultimate Droid, 3.2.0 new for mytouch that has Gingerb, and idk if its vanilla but I can install the rom with 2.5.1.2 recovery, if that means anything at all lol

Yep it's true, I posted about this a week ago....
I have been working with MiuiAnderson to figure out why the build process is not working for the sgs4g. I can build it for the i9000 with no problems...
You won't need a different kernel with this. It ports MIUI to your custom rom.
I will post another update when he gets back to me..
yeah... its been out for while i think... hopefully this will make it for a MIUI ROM on this phone too with official support and stuff
If there is anything I can do to help like test out Rome or something I will be glad to help I myself see me having this device for 2 years.

Also consider that the International sgs2 uses the Exynos421x processor, where as the sgs4g uses the intrepid-hummingbird S5PC110 processor. Totally different.
7TimesCursed just gave me a tip that will help me move forward with CM7. (something I was hung up on)
CM9 is also still under development. A port would mean a buggy phone.
An ICS port would indeed be better.
After CM7 port is done, I still have plans to rebase our phone specific kernel stuff to the samsung aosp kernel. That my help us port to the 3.0.1 kernel that ICS uses. This is still a ways off, and hopefully by then CM9 will stabilize.
To the future!

Yes they are but you don't need source. I come from the att note which doesn't have official ics or source and we had pa. Pa is a aosp rom like cm9 and aokp and we have both of those. Which shows kernel source is not needed
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
We don't need kernel source for the initial port, though we probably will to get the port bug free (for example, the CM9 build and multitouch).
I tried downloading the PA source a few days back but it kept erroring out (something about signatures not being trusted or something)
It might just be an SSL error on my PC, I'll have another go at it sometime soon. Seems like an intriguing ROM.
Yea its a cool rom. A team mate ported it to the note and its pretty bug free. I haven't looked at their sources lately but have they released source for pad?

I'm sorry I've looked at paranoid android before and for some reason I was confusing it with Coredroid.
I haz a stupid.
However, kernel source will make building an AOSP kernel much easier. Right now we're using the One S kernel source and while it works for the most part, there are still some niggling issues as can be seen in the AOKP and CM9 threads.
But hell yeah build that thang!
Yea in that aspect source will be great but since the kernel for cm9 seems good it'll work for now. But if any one does do this good luck they put their code everywhere and if you miss one strand it won't work

touchwiz or aosp roms will benefit from this. This is the floodgates to lots of **** coming now. Most importantly though, I would expect us to go RC on CM9 very soon now.
Clarification
Well, reading the posts it seems there is general lack of understanding of the Android Kernel source tree. First of all if you look at all the Celox source tree released by Samsung (Kernel) there are all based of AOSP 3.0.8. This is little bit too late . Samsung already had the Celox sources released with SHV-E110S and T-989 last month. All the proper drivers for the SGH-I727 bit are already there in that kernel source.
I doubt, I will find any difference if at all there is any in this new source. (BTW, if people who have not developed kernels Sammy sources that they release are as ****ty as it gets, they NEVER release the manufacturing source, tell me I had to fix a crap load of stuff).
As far as Cymbaline, the source is now so far merged with upstream kernel sources (which is what one does, anyways) that it would be pointless for me to even consider starting with these source. And all those useless govs, bln, oc/uc tweaks are already there in my source tree ..And anyone who is making to attempt those will need to do it exactly the same places ....
