It's great news if you have an SGSII, which they released the ICS kernel source to.

Also consider that the International sgs2 uses the Exynos421x processor, where as the sgs4g uses the intrepid-hummingbird S5PC110 processor. Totally different.
7TimesCursed just gave me a tip that will help me move forward with CM7. (something I was hung up on)
CM9 is also still under development. A port would mean a buggy phone.
An ICS port would indeed be better.
After CM7 port is done, I still have plans to rebase our phone specific kernel stuff to the samsung aosp kernel. That my help us port to the 3.0.1 kernel that ICS uses. This is still a ways off, and hopefully by then CM9 will stabilize.
To the future!

ICS port possible?

I know the news has been going about that official source has been released for ICS an course like a lot of other people are wondering what it can be ported over to. Now me i personally have no clue how to translate all the technobabble dealing with creating roms from source but I'm sure there people here that do understand it all what would it take to get ICS on our phones? Like i said i have no clue in reality what goes into rom creating with phone drivers an framework tweaking (i know our phone is "special") but just curious.
Nobody here can get gingerbread on it let alone ics. Don't hold your breathe for either one. Lol

Definitely not impossible. Just need the right people to work on it.

You can't go from froyo --> ICS , it'll be impossible you need to work with GB --> ICS if your doing a SDK port , if your doing a source then i don't know .

Well making a ICS port for the sidekick i'd hope it be using the source since then with source you could create a kernal aswell a the rom

ask anyone who has ported a SDK , your going to need to work with a AOSP base or perferably CM7 base w/ a CM7 kernel , you don't know what your talking about .

well isn't the issue with GB that we DON"T have the source code for GB so you can't hand make a kernal for our device? While with ICS with the source out we could hand make the kernal and the roms so they work on out system if i'm understanding how to create a android rom an kernal correctly its easier to work from source then from SDKs or porting a rom from another.
The issue with porting GB is that we don't have a source designed for our phone. there's all sorts of GB sources released, but none that have been designed for our phone. That ICS source is the same source that CM is based on, it's AOSP (all open source project), but it still requires a newer kernel.

Chrome Browser for Android-- Can't download?

Hey folks,
So the Chrome team finally released Chrome for Android and you can find it here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.android.chrome
But it seems like it doesn't support the G2x?
I can't find it on the Market App on my phone, and when I go directly to its page on the web and try to install it, it doesn't show a supported device. I wonder if this is only for rooted G2x's with custom ROMs, or if it just won't work on the G2x.
I have the latest SinghUI on mine, but I suspect Chrome just doesn't support LGE LG-P999's at all right now. Is it just me or is this happening to anyone else?
You need to have ICS (Android 4.0) for this app.
When you look at apps on market.android.com, it will show that on the right hand side, this app says:
REQUIRES ANDROID:
4.0 and up
So yes, doesn't support G2X yet, as G2X doesn't have 4.0
It only works with ICS according to the press release.
Oh. Duh. Thanks.

I don't think MIUI users think they are using ICS at least I hope not. They just added some ICS functions into the framework, but since the Galnet lists the OS as 4.0 in the system information it might work most likely not though.

Galnet MIUI is just a gimmick created to get users to use and support their work. Looks and functions exactly like Gingerbread MIUI.
If you go into most miui threads alot of people think they're running ics. A friend of mine who I didn't know was into hacking android was showing someone how he was running ics on his old htc. When I looked at his phone and saw what it was I backhanded him across the face, explained to him what he really had running and then challenged him to a duel

You shouldn't have backhanded him. The proper way to challenge someone to a duel is to remove your glove and slap them with it.

why would it work if it doesn't have actual 4.0? also i was reading somewhere chrome is not supporting flash (or i guess adobe is not supporting chrome..whatever is politically correct).

There is now a MIUI open source!!!!

Is the hardest part of getting MIUI to work is getting our kernel go work with it?

Don't worry, we have devs working on kernel. Hypothetically, once the CM7 kernel works, MIUI shouldn't be a problem.

Yep it's true, I posted about this a week ago....
I have been working with MiuiAnderson to figure out why the build process is not working for the sgs4g. I can build it for the i9000 with no problems...
You won't need a different kernel with this. It ports MIUI to your custom rom.
I will post another update when he gets back to me..
yeah... its been out for while i think... hopefully this will make it for a MIUI ROM on this phone too with official support and stuff
If there is anything I can do to help like test out Rome or something I will be glad to help I myself see me having this device for 2 years.

New kernel 3.x for G2X ICS

Is there any chance for us to have new kernel 3.x for G2X ICS?
Faux123 has an unofficial/unsupported beta out (same disclaimer as the SK) and I saw Morfic saying something in the direction of releasing one at some point as well. Once ICS is at least into beta stages I wouldn't expect to see a whole lot of mods for it.

That wasn't his question. Haha, he was asking if we hould have an updated kernel based off of 3.x. Right now we have 2.x.x.x
To the OP: I doubt we will, unless nVidia finally decides to release the drivers.

Sad but true. we have some great Dev's, i know they will tune, tweak, port and hack the best they can. I have faith In them.
We had a dev over in galaxy s 4g that was trying the same for that phone. until the noobs n whiners pushed him away. sad day
anyway, he went through and strip the samsung built kernel to a minimum to match with an AOSP kernel. then compared it to an AOSP 3.x kernel and tried to port that way. dont know how far he gotten but that might work.
of course some drivers may not be compatible but it shouldnt be worse than with 2.x kernels in ICS.
Also, 3.x is just because Linus wanted to up the version number for the hell of it. He said so himself, there isnt any drastic change
Thank you for your post. You gave me some ideas on what to do. I am on EB's ics and have an error with wifi calling.....I will tell ya more later if this idea works. Thank you.

touchwiz or aosp roms will benefit from this. This is the floodgates to lots of **** coming now. Most importantly though, I would expect us to go RC on CM9 very soon now.
Clarification
Well, reading the posts it seems there is general lack of understanding of the Android Kernel source tree. First of all if you look at all the Celox source tree released by Samsung (Kernel) there are all based of AOSP 3.0.8. This is little bit too late . Samsung already had the Celox sources released with SHV-E110S and T-989 last month. All the proper drivers for the SGH-I727 bit are already there in that kernel source.
I doubt, I will find any difference if at all there is any in this new source. (BTW, if people who have not developed kernels Sammy sources that they release are as ****ty as it gets, they NEVER release the manufacturing source, tell me I had to fix a crap load of stuff).
As far as Cymbaline, the source is now so far merged with upstream kernel sources (which is what one does, anyways) that it would be pointless for me to even consider starting with these source. And all those useless govs, bln, oc/uc tweaks are already there in my source tree ..And anyone who is making to attempt those will need to do it exactly the same places ....
