bad idea to update dock firmware while using a custom rom? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i dont know if there is a problem with my dock firmware or anything, but i updated my dockfirmware OTA while using prime 1.9
and now for some reason, my neither my tablet nor my dock will charge. my tablet, however will charge when it is completely out of power and while it is off. while it is still on ( even asleep) it wont charge. in addition, my tablet recognizes when it is plugged into the dock, so i suppose that rules out that my 30pin port is faulty.
anyone else have this problem?

joppher,
Since you already have a custom rom like Prime, it is best for you to update to the latest version, 2.04. I remember having some issue with the TF at some point in the past where the charging notification would not come up. I don't have that problem anymore, but it may be due to the fact that I'm on a newer version than you have. So if I were you I would make a backup of what you have and update to version Prime 2.0 and install all 4 patches. Once you have done so test your TF and see if it is charging. If it isn't post your findings and lets see if we can help.

okay. i updated my transformer to the latest PRIME rom. and it still wont charge.
and then all of a sudden, one morning i woke up and it was fully charged.
however, my dock still wont charge whether i have just my dock plugged in or with my dock and tablet plugged in at the same time
does asus do replacements for teh dock?

[Q] Asus Eee Pad Transformer charging question

Hi,
I recently got my Transformer with keyboard dock a couple of days ago and am very pleased with how it's been performing up to now (updated to 3.1 soon after I got it ). I've got one question though (not sure if anyone has tested this): if you have the keyboard docked and you plug the charger into the dock, will both the dock and tablet charge in one sitting? Or does the power not get passed through somehow, meaning I have to charge each device separately?
Thanks.
Regards,
Jon.
Basically yes. The charger will charge whatever needs charging. I have the user created dual charging application that shows me exactly what's happening, and that's how it happens. It's the best case scenario. The ASUS engineer who designed that part of the system was wide awake when he / she was working on it.
Bye.

Thanks for that .
Just a heads up, you're not going to want to leave the tablet docked to the keyboard when not in use as it drains the battery very quickly.

When you say 'not in use' I'm guessing you mean when the tablet is switched on and left alone, right? Or does the same thing happen in this scenario even with the tab switched off? (Probably a dumb question lol )
problem with charging transformer
hi i have problem with this baby transformer ...
when i plugged charger with ac power to tablet charge indicator blink 2 time and then charge led in dock turning off
does it charge now or tablet or dock has problem ??
thanks in advance if anyone with experiences with this tablet aid me .
I think what you're describing is the "no power" light which pretty much says that the battery is completely dead, give it about 20 minutes and the light should (hopefully) come back on.

My charging saga
Here is my charging saga,
Received my TF yesterday (along with the keyboard dock), thought I would boot it up for a quick look. It did not have enough charge to that. Put it on the charger, wasn't sure it was charging then but as mentioned in above post it was getting something cause it came on for a brief moment. After 8 hours I powered on the TF, booted up no issue but I had only 38% charged, but it wasn't showing it was charging (unless I overlooked some kind of icon). Quickly installed dual battery app, it showed battery was not charging. So, I put it on the dock (did not want to I wanted to sell the dock, it was free with the purchase) anyway, the dock was drained also but at least it showed at that time it was charging both. Will see what next after work.

[Q] Dock charging problem

I bought my transformer five days ago. PAD IS B70 and dock is B60. Dock stays charged at 33% and don't get higher. When pad reached 5% i docked it, but nothing happened it just discharges after 20 minutes. So its like there isn'tbattery in it at all.
What shouldi do?
I would suggest plug the DOCK only in, using the wall charger supplied (NOT a PC) the lil light next to the plug will be orange while charging, then green when charged.
THEN, do the same with the TABLET only. (or vice versa)
Once they are both fully charged, you shouldnt have further problems, when they are docked together. Just make sure you use the charger that came with it. It charges at a higher volatage and amperage than a USB connection to say a PC can do...
Nothing
Thats the problem, dock indicator all the time is red it's charging for 10hours, but still 34%.
Dock doesn't chrge tablet and it doesn't charge from wall chrger, just like there isn't battery at all.
I think the problem is at docks software, so tablets factory reset is useless.
Hardware
Seems you have a hardware problem or firmware problem. Is the dock on the latest firmware? If it is, I think your dock is malfunctioning and you are obliged to get a repair.
Update
Yes it came from asus already with 3.1and checked the dock firmware, and everything is updated, waiting for 3.2 WW, if then anything doesn't change I will take it back.

[Q] TF101 only charges when completely shutdown?

I am having the weirdest problem on my Asus Transformer TF101 . I had updated to ICS via ASUS's check update option and then it stopped charging at all ( I do not have the dock, just the wallwart) .... . It would not charge ( not even show a charge flash symbol on the battery ) when the tablet is on AND plugged in..It would ONLY charge with the Wallwart when the tab is completely shutdown .i.e. I would have to shutdown the tab completely and then plug it in so that it can trickle charge over night to +80%. I changed the cable , changed the wall wart same issue... Then I thought its possibly a sw issue so I resetted , wiped caches, reset battery stats and even upgraded the sw to a Rayman's CyanogenMod 10 ♦ B4 ( currently running it ) .. Now I can at least see a small charge flash symbol when the tab is plugged in but instead of charging the tab , when I look at the battery status it shows discharging.... I can only charge this dang thing when its completely shutdown.. I still think its a sw issue.. Wondering anyone else had this issue and more importantly what is the fix ?? ..
Fixes I found in the forum that I've tried so far :
1. check/uncheck the stay awake option
2. Rooted ,installed Rayman's CM10-B4 rom
3. install dual battery app to check battery stats,( dont know why was this suggested as a fix )
4. wiped battery stats in recovery mode , thrice
5. changed usb cable
6. Put the charger/wallwart in freezer overnight and then check the charging ..
I'm outta warranty duration so desperately need to fix this on my own ..
You are using the ASUS TF101 supplied charger with its included cable, and nothing else? I.e. no extension USB cord etc.
The ASUS TF101 charges using 12-15V from the wallwart, not the standard USB 5V. Using standard USB, it's only able to trickle charge during power off, and this sounds exactly as what you are describing.
I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I even tried the freezer trick too in desperation as it was my last resort before admitting defeat in my battle with trickle charging. In the end I purchased this charger off ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140714910102?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I know it's advertised as a UK charger but if you read further down the page they ship the US and EU charger too. I've had it for about a week now and it works perfectly. I was dubious about buying a non Asus charger after reading reviews about them on Amazon about overheating but mine seems fine. If anything it's actually cooler than the original one.

I have tested with the same USB cable that came with it originally and the wall wart is original too. I changed the wall wart and USB to see if there's a difference but apparently none. Not using any USB hubs either...

Sorry to disagree, but everything you describe sounds as a charger issue to me, not a SW issue. If it happens even with the TF powered off this makes me almost sure...
Sometimes it's good to start from the begining, although you think you have tried everything...
Get your TF, your asus original wall adapter and cable and try it. Does it work?
If not try another outlet on your house. Does it work?
If not, you may even try another outlet (work, school, whatever). Does it work?
If not exchange only the wall adapter (for another asus original one if possible) and start over.
If nothing changes, get back to your wall charger, change the USB charging cable and start again.
If nothing changes, change wall adapter + cable and start again.
Remember... The TF will only charge with the asus wall adapter and cable or a specific charger. If you try to use your computer's USB or a wall adapter from a phone / generic USB device you won't get any charge at all, and will only trickle charge when the TF is off.

Sounds like there is an issue that the charger is not recognizing that an Eee Pad is attached. Might be time for a new charger.
Hello all, I have the exact same problem. I received my Asus TF101 for Christmas last year. Then later I found out that you need it root it in order to upgrade the OS. I rooted my TF, then I upgrade it the OS from Honeycomb(4.0.3) to Jellybean(4.1.2), (4.2.2) A month later after upgrading the OS my battery drain faster and I can only charge the battery with my TF turned off. If I plugged the the charger while its on it, the battery says its not charging. I change the wall wart and the cable but the issue still persist. Please help!!!

Is the new wall wart you are using a genuine Asus wall wart? If it is just a tablet USB charger, that will not work as the TF101 needs 15 VDC to charge instead of the standard 5 VDC of USB. The Asus wall wart auto-detects and switches between the two voltages to allow it to be used for other devices as well.

Asus Transformer TF101 not charging issue

Hi,
I have this tablet, got it brand new a year ago maby - I cant remember exactly. It has always worked perfectly and I have never had a problem with it. It has never been rooted etc, still running official firmware through built-in updater and only has few apps installed from the play store.
Anyway the battery is currently on 26% so thought I'd give it a charge before I use it tonight except its not taking a charge, I'm using the original cable and wall plug which the tablet came with & I have tried it in a different wall socket. I then tried connecting it to my laptop to see if its the plug and the tablet recognizes its been connected as the Asus Sync PC information icon comes up - it just wont charge and I dont know why.
Has anyone experienced this? and can anyone help me with a solution please? It just happend out of the blue and I last charged it a couple of nights ago with no problems. Also i just have the tablet as I didnt buy the keyboard addon for it at the time just so you have all the information.
Thanks

Hi,
I seem to have fixed it, I simply took the two parts of the plug apart and put them back together again, now its charging fine. It seems it needs 15v to charge the battery which I guess is why it doesn't charge via a usb port on a computer.

TF101 dock

Hi everybody
I need help with the dock of my TF101. Some days ago I've tried to upgrade the rom of my TF101 from asus 4.0.2 to omnirom 4.4.2. Everything seems to go well except the dock battery. I don't really understand why but it doesn't charge anymore. It always stays to 0%
I've tried to change the rom to the KatKiss 4.3, but it was the same. Now I came back to the stock rom 4.0.2, but nothing changes. that f***** dock doesn't charge anymore.
I've tried to charge the dock without the tab plugged with no success. I've tried the charging method with the USB and the dock only, but it's the same.
Need help, thanks.

I had once same issue. Leaving dock disconnected and plugged to charge worked for me. Don't know why it happened but now it never repeats even when I'm charging my tablet docked - both dock and tablet are charging and everything is ok.
