I recently got my Transformer with keyboard dock a couple of days ago and am very pleased with how it's been performing up to now (updated to 3.1 soon after I got it ). I've got one question though (not sure if anyone has tested this): if you have the keyboard docked and you plug the charger into the dock, will both the dock and tablet charge in one sitting? Or does the power not get passed through somehow, meaning I have to charge each device separately?

Basically yes. The charger will charge whatever needs charging. I have the user created dual charging application that shows me exactly what's happening, and that's how it happens. It's the best case scenario. The ASUS engineer who designed that part of the system was wide awake when he / she was working on it.

Just a heads up, you're not going to want to leave the tablet docked to the keyboard when not in use as it drains the battery very quickly.

When you say 'not in use' I'm guessing you mean when the tablet is switched on and left alone, right? Or does the same thing happen in this scenario even with the tab switched off? (Probably a dumb question lol )
problem with charging transformer
hi i have problem with this baby transformer ...
when i plugged charger with ac power to tablet charge indicator blink 2 time and then charge led in dock turning off
does it charge now or tablet or dock has problem ??

I think what you're describing is the "no power" light which pretty much says that the battery is completely dead, give it about 20 minutes and the light should (hopefully) come back on.

My charging saga
Here is my charging saga,
Received my TF yesterday (along with the keyboard dock), thought I would boot it up for a quick look. It did not have enough charge to that. Put it on the charger, wasn't sure it was charging then but as mentioned in above post it was getting something cause it came on for a brief moment. After 8 hours I powered on the TF, booted up no issue but I had only 38% charged, but it wasn't showing it was charging (unless I overlooked some kind of icon). Quickly installed dual battery app, it showed battery was not charging. So, I put it on the dock (did not want to I wanted to sell the dock, it was free with the purchase) anyway, the dock was drained also but at least it showed at that time it was charging both. Will see what next after work.

Is anyone else having an issue with charging? it worked fine for a week or more. now when i plug it in, to any outlet, it wont charge at all.. they are considering RMAing the entire unit, and im going to be torked off if i have to wait weeks to get another. argh.

My unit doesn't charge if the battery is above 90%. I see no problems there, what % is your battery at? That is expected behaviour to an extent to prevent overcharging of the battery.

Mine did that once and I just left it alone for awhile and it started to work again on its own.
i only noticed it because its asking me to connect to charger now.
so its at 11% right now.
Tech wanted me to trickle charge to see if i get anything out of it. Its not working.
Is there any lights on the adapter? i cant remember? but i think the unit may be bad.
SOOOOO pissed, now i have to wait weeks for a replacement to show up.
Has anyone else had a unit they have had to RMA??? is so, did they send a brand new one, sealed in box? if so, i have an extra here, ill just use it and sell the RMA one when it comes in.

EDIT: i had it trickle charging in the off position. just turned it back on. then plugged it in to wall. seems to be charging now.. WTH. wonder if its something with the dock?

Nice to have found your thread on this - mine was doing the same thing after I had if docked. Connected it to my PC and synced and then put it back in the charger and everything is fine.

TF101 not charging after run flat issue - SOLVED

I also had this problem. The tablet drained the docking station dry, and then neither device would charge from the adapter.
I solved the problem as follows:
1) Remove table from docking station.
2) Turn tablet off completely.
3) Plug tablet only into the charger, at this point the tablet turned on, and began charging.
4) Allow the tablet to charge completely!
5) Reconnect tablet to docking station, and plug docking station into charger.
Voila, all charged Hope it works for others who have this issue!
Mine also had charging problems. When I charged it, it never reached 100%. I took it to the Asus repair center, and they called me today and said they got it to reach 100%. Also, above 90% it reports the battery status as full.
I also to them about the battery drain problem, and gave them my tablet with the dual battery widget installed. Told them to charge both the tablet and keyboard to full, dock the tablet, power off, and wait until morning to see the results.
I'll find out what happens tomorrow when I go see them in the morning.
TF101 not charging today...
It happened already once some time ago, but leaving the power adapter disconnected from the wall plug for 10min solved the problem.
Now it's happening again... and previous workaround is not working.
Tablet is TF101, no docking keyboard, last version of ICS installed.
I've checked the various threads for suggestions: of course I tried the various reboot options; the only thing I'm missing is the refrigerator, but the power adapter is cold (tablet is not charging since 2d, and battery is still alive...).
I've not checked the cable, but have cleaned with air the connectors (just to avoid dust inside).
Any suggestion is welcome.

I have had my charger stop working twice in the past 6 months. Both times I put the wall adapter in a zip-lock bag and placed in my freezer for 30 minutes. Upon removing I plugged the usb cable back into the adapter and bam, everything was working fine again. From what I remember, there is a temperature sensitive circuit breaker inside the adapter that sometimes gets stuck. Even if the charger is cold or has been left alone it takes the dramatic temperature of the freezer to unsieze it. Good Luck it worked for me, twice.
I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this. So far I've tried charging the dock for 9+ hours and when I unplug it, the LED still starts flashing as soon as I unplug it, indicating less than 10%~ battery left. I don't think this dock ever got a full charge ever.
Am I doing something wrong, or should I RMA the dock?

No, it doesn't get any hotter, but I know that it's passing power to the tablet, since the cable goes into the Mobile Dock and the Tablet is docked, the tablet gets a charged to 100%, but Mobile Dock doesn't
Remove the tablet part and just charge the dock on its own.
yep. charge them separately. i believe that if they are connected the tablet fills to 100% before the dock even starts to charge ....

Tried it, over 10+ hours, still the LED starts flashing as soon as I unplug it.
I think I may have to RMA

I got same problem too.
but the charger is hot while I charge tablet or dock or both together.
dock is not charge, it always 0%.

Is the dock FW up to date ?
TBH .. i'd just RMA it, if its under warranty, just get it sent back.
P.S. Download the dual battery widget to see what it displays for the dock power ... but still RMA it.
Just got the dock a few days ago and it charged up fine the first day. Then a few minor glitches started.... the tablet wouldn't wake up from keyboard input or trackpad input. Now, the dock wont charge at all.
Dual battery widget shows it at 0%, and when I apply the charging cable, the LED shows green (when the tablet is at 100%). So it's almost as if it doesn't even see the dock battery.
Any ideas?
UPDATE: This issue has been SOLVED! See post #3 for my solution.
If you just got it, then it is in waranty. I would send it back for repair since they will replace it with a functioning one. My dock did this (although it was, like, a week after my newegg waranty expired) and I sent it into asus and they replaced it in a little under 5 days.
On a side note, have you tried removing the transformer, waiting about 10-15 seconds, and then replacing the transformer back on the dock (while the dock is not charging). Also, does the transformer show it is charging when you put it in the dock with under 90% charge? The dual battery widget sometimes says I have no charge on my dock when I clearly do. To fix it I just remove my transformer from the dock, wait a little, and put it back in aaaand: voila, it works perfectly.
Oh yea, and try disabling "power saving mode" in the settings under input if you want to wake up your tablet with the keyboard or trackpad.

Thanks for the tips. I tried all of your suggestions, and nothing worked. The weird part was - every time I plugged in the dock, the light displayed solid green (indicating 100% charge on both batteries), but dual battery showed 0% charge on the dock. This got me thinking that the dual battery widget was not reporting correctly.
I then found a tip on another Android forum that suggested plugging in the dock to a USB port on a PC - waiting 5-10 minutes - and then trying the AC wall charger again. I did this, and boom.. the dual battery widget showed 100% on both batteries.
It's been working fine for about a week now, with no repeats... I have no idea what the problem was. My only guess is that the dual battery widget freaked out the first time the dock went to 0% charge. It seems it's reporting fine though now, even after the dock hits 0%.
I have this problem too, the led in dock always blinking in orange and dual battery always shows 0% ( of Dock) and i also changed the charger and changed the roms , but still not charging, what should i do?

I had RMA's my TF101 as it had completely died on my following ICS upgrade, Asus returned my tablet with ICS 4.0.3. For around 3 days I was using it very happily, no more reboots, no screens of death, I was so happy.
Then one morning after recharging my tablet while docked, I checked the dual battery monitor and it showed the dock battery rapidly fluctuating from 100% to 0%, it would show fully charged when plugged into the wall.
I was about to RMA the keyboard when I saw your post, plugged the keyboard into my laptop USB, left it probably 5 mins, then attacehed the tablet, dual battery widget showing both batteries correctly and no flucuating readings.

When you plugged the dock in to the usb, did you get a light on the dock? having the same problem!
New tf700 is in transit right now, but I have a question I haven't been able to find an answer to yet...
If you plug the charger into the keyboard dock, you will obviously charge the dock battery. And the same for the infinity itself. But if you plug the charger into the dock and then attach the infinity to the dock, will it charge both the infinity and the dock?
Yes it'll charge both. Idk if its both at the same time or the dock then the tab but it does charge both.

Yep, but @OP keep in mind that it does not DISCHARGE at the same time. When using the Infinity + Dock, it switches the powere source. Noone has written an app to change this (IDK if its too low level either). Makes more sense to deplete the dock when plugged in, and then rely on the tablet later. I understand what they are getting at (their way helps a lot if you use them both together a lot) but they should give the option to choose.

Dock discharges first. Don't know why anyone would want to change that method of charging. Even though I take the dock everywhere with me, I sometimes remove it so I can use the tablet only because it's handier that way.

The keyboard actually charges the tablet when it's not plugged in.

If makes sense if you only use your tablet a lot more than your dock. When plugged in you would want to conserve as much battery in the tablet as possible so the "charging method" is to use the dock only when connected. or charge the table, effectively making the dock's battery a refill, not a supplement. If you use them both together, it makes sense to alternate. It just depends on usage patterns.

I don't know what you are seeing, but when I have the tablet docked and not plugged into the charger the tablet charges and the keyboard dock is depleted. I took a screen shot to show you what I'm seeing. It's plain as day that the keyboard is charging the tablet. Of course now the screen shot won't upload.... I'll try an edit after I post.

The tablet will drain first to ~70%, then the keyboard dock will charge the tablet back to ~90% this will continue in a loop until the dock is drained and report back as 0% battery left on dock.
The reason your seeing keyboard being drained is because lithium-ion battery overtime will slowly drain ~1% probably couple hours or so.

It's not quite that simple. First, I've had my dock show 0% and blinking orange on the LED, indicating I should charge it. I still used it actively for almost a day, including the USB port from time to time. So either the tablet is then powering the dock's keyboard and ports, or the dock battery has a "reserve" battery capacity for internal use (e.g. only the dock).
It's slightly annoying seeing that 0% and blinking ("OMG, CHARGE MEEE") yet I can still use the dock without any issues.
I'd just like to see some settings/configuration parameters for dock usage. First, I don't want it to complain about 0% battery until it's actually getting low. It could just say it's not charging the tablet anymore, and keep the warning lights for when the dock's actually nearing empty.
Also, while Li-Ion batteries discharge over time because of the internal resistance, we're not talking 1% every couple of hours. You have a defective battery in that case, or a very old one.
The self-discharge of the lithium-ion battery is 5% in the first 24 hours after charge, and then reduces to 1% to 2% per month thereafter. The safety circuit adds about 3%. High cycle count and aging have little effect on the self-discharge of lithium-based batteries. A lead-acid battery self-discharges at only 5% per month or 50% per year. Repeated deep cycling increases self-discharge.

Tablet discharges to about 70% +/- and then the dock charges the tablet until the dock is completely discharged, then the tablet discahrges again.
Ok, new TF700T user here, coming from a TF101. I'm trying to figure out how charging works between the dock and the tablet. With my TF101 it was obvious..when the tablet was docked, it was kept at 100% charge by the dock. Simple. Now, with the TF700T and dock, I see that I have two icons on the bottom showing the charge of each. Nice. But, the charge on my tablet keeps dropping. My dock is at 99% and the tablet is at 90%. Why isn't the dock charging the tablet? What's it waiting for?
I HAVE seen the dock charge the tablet before, I just cannot for the life of me figure out what triggers it. Can anyone explain how it works with the TF700T? Does the tablet have to drop below some % before the dock kicks in or what? Or..do I have a defective dock?
Note that when I plug the charger into the dock + tablet, both batteries charge fine.
The dock is a TF700T dock mislabeled as a TF201 dock, but confirmed to be a 700 by Asus themselves.

Sorry not an answer, but a supplementary. I have the same query and I also wonder why if I plug in the dock the total time available on the battery doesn't change, should it?? Overall what battery time should I expect +/- if I have both connected??

I am strongly suspecting that there is a bug in the software related to the dock charging the tablet. A quick and easy way to trigger the charging process is to simply reboot the dock + tablet combo, not plugged in to the wall...when it comes back up, BING! it starts charging the tablet. My tablet was down to 70% with the dock at 99% and there was absolutely no charging going on until I rebooted the dock + tablet.
My current theory is that something gets fubared when you plug the charging cable back into the dock + tablet combo..when you unplug it, it appears the dock won't ever charge the tablet. I need to test this further when I get home from work.
Ok now I am certain that the dock charging is not working right on the TF700T.
The "reboot" trick does work, causing the dock to charge the tablet...but only to 90%. Once it hits 90%, the charging stops.
Is there some way we can submit "bugs" to Asus? Will they even listen? I'd love to know if other TF700 owners who have the dock are seeing this.

The dock does not charge the tablet before the tab battery is down to about 70%, that is the fact for my TF201 and TF700 and according to what I've read that is the way it's supposed to be (apparantly better for the battery than the TF101 setup).
I don't think your reboot did the trick, I think it would have charged anyways. But I'm not telling you for sure, just saying I think that is the way it's supposed to be (and is for me).
Actually, then the reboot did do the trick - b/c the reboot process consumed enough battery to drop it down under the 70% margin so the dock --> tablet charging process would kick in.
I'll test that and see.
The TF 201 manual states that the tablet will go down to 70% before dock charging kicks in and rechgarges it back to about 99% and then it will stop, go back down and keep doing this, in this way it keeps the tablet charged, the dock dorps to zero at the same time that the tablet gets charged to 80, then the tablet has a nearly full charge for you to use.
And I am drunk, sorry for the typos.
Yeah, your reboot only worked because the tablet's battery fell below the threshold anyway. It charges the tablet at 70% back up to the 90s, then stops, charges again from 70-90%, stops, etc. Your battery usage ends up having spikes, looking like:
