New verizon PRL - Thunderbolt General

Hey all, can anyone upload or direct me to the new 52501 Verizon PRL? Looked on the net but seems no one has uploaded it yet that I can find. Running on a ROM where I need to update PRL manually. Thanks
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

You know what - for some reason most Verizon guys don't ever mess around with the PRL. I am not sure why but I never hear anyone on Verizon talk about it. I switched to Sprint for a month and noticed that everyone was messing around with PRL.
Just sharing that bc I am not sure what kind of response you are going to get. If I could remember what I was doing I would try and help - but my phone is not even showing that PRL.
Mine shows PRL 15027.

I'm pretty sure the differences in PRL's (52501 vs. 15027) are that they are lists for 3G and 4G towers respectively. On my Incredible the PRL was 52501 and that was as of Monday the 11th. On my Thunderbolt my PRL is actually 15061 and that is as of today.

The PRL has nothing at all to do with LTE. In fact, it doesn't have anything at all to do with CDMA 3G. All the PRL does is provide a preferred roaming list for the CDMA radio built into the MSM8655. All network authentication pertaining to the MDM9600 is handled via the SIM which is updated with it's own data automatically and there's no way to force it.

That's nice. I believe since he is a Sprint customer he wants to roam on Verizon's network so he can get better coverage.

Yes you are correct. I want to update my roaming list as I force my phone to roam Verizon

So basically you would be a sprint paying customer placing 100% of your calls on the vzw network? I presume data as well? Interesting...
Jwb

Once you use a Verizon PRL on a Sprint phone and they notice (IF they notice) they will kindly give you the boot and show you to the door. Just a heads up. If you search the Evo forums (I had that before my TBolt), they had a few users who used the Verizon PRL and got the boot alittle while after since the data was considered to be all roaming data.
I dont know of they will charge you or if it will be a "get out jail" or in this case a termination fee, but they did it because, quite frankly, the 3G speeds etc were complete crap.

Yes....and No. I have a unique situation wherein I have manually programmed my TB because I use it on PagePlus (a Verizon MVNO). They use the same PRLs as Verizon. You can, in fact, manually program the PRL on the TB once the phone has been switched into NV-only mode (thus not requiring the SIM). I have the TB working very well without the SIM even in the phone, and so clearly the SIM does not handle all network authentication.
For me, I would very much appreciate the PRL as requested by the OP because I must update mine manually, and it's not for illicit purposes. PPC simply doesn't have the ability to provision my phone automatically.

FYI: PRL 13xxx means you're on the new Hybrid Network

Originally Posted by Gav508 Tonight I called tech support from Verizon and was surprised to get in touch with a very knowledgeable rep. I to have the 15008 PRL, however my location, New Jersey, I am not affected by the Alltel issue, and even though she said she would send the update to my phone, she stated that it can cause other issues. Since she seemed very knowledgeable about this information, I decided to take her advise and stay clear of this update.
For any of you guys using Alltel towers or equipment, all the info you have read is correct and this pushed update should serve you phone well. Just first verify you are in that Alltel local.
Myself I suffer from loss of internet sometimes moving from one place to another. (home to work). She asked if I frequently get the cannot connect for internet message. I do. She also asked if I get the 1X instead of 3G frequently. I do. She stated that this is a know issue with the Thunderbolt and it can be rectified very easy by doing a full factory reset from settings. Since I was having more issues with the Internet then the phone calls I am going to try this fix. I hate reloading and setting everything back up but I am going to try it anyway.
For anyone thinking of this, this operation puts your phone back to factory release condition. You will lose all contacts and data info. Make sure your contacts, calendar and misc info is backed up first. If you have a Google Account everything is and will reappear after you re sign back in.
Update from the OP: I said 13xxx, but this number could be different for your area. I honestly have no way of telling how many different PRL's there are or which number would say that would definitely tell you that you're on the Hybrid network(If there is one in your area.) I just know my results and that my PRL number changed.
On a quest to figure out why my phone had 3-4 bars of network signal, while my wife's phone had 0-1 bars even when they were next to each, I found this out in the process. If you're on PRL 15008, your phone is connected to the old Verizon Nationwide network. While if your phone shows PRL 13xxx, then your phone is connected to the New Hybrid network. I was on 13004, while she was on 15008. If your PRL shows 15008, I highly recommend you call Verizon and have them upgrade you to the Hybrid network, as this GREATLY increased my wife's signal and fixed her voice calls reception. (Not sure if this does anything for data. She always had good 3G and we're not in a 4G area.) They will push the update to your phone and have you leave it on for a few hours. Afterwards, I pulled the sim card and battery out for 30 seconds, replaced them and let the phone boot up. After 10-20 minutes, the radio will locate the nearest tower and my wife's phone auto updated its PRL number from 15008 to 13006. She now has a constant 3-4 bar signal and her time without a signal is significantly lower. (Same as mine.) Also, if you're rooted, make sure you know the correct stock firmware/radio version as they will probably ask you for this info.
P.S. I would only do this if you're having voice(not data) signal problems like my wife phone was. My wife phone shows 13006 and mine shows 13004, so PRL's can be different numbers for your area. So again, this may help some people and this may do nothing for others. If you already have a great signal, I would leave well enough alone.

yeah, I have 14001 too. Are you on a legacy Alltel plan?
I am on 1508 and in a 4G area. I don't know about the hybrid network or what not but I know that coming from Tmobile, I have great voice reception.
Just today I started to get 4G at my apartment. The coverage map always showed me in a strong 4G area but I was only getting 3g until today.
That is my first time hearing about 14xxx. But it could be the correct PRL for your area. Wouldn't hurt to call and find out. Also, have the regular Verizon plan. Not sure what the legacy Alltel plan is, as I never had Alltel service. I'm located in Central Florida btw.

I sure am, didn't think about that, goo call man! Would it screw things up to change over to hybrid? for example i still have unlimited messaging and internet for like 15-20 bucks a month way back from my alltel haha and would HATE to screw that up.
I'm on 15008 in Houston my phone is set it LTE mode (no switching to 3G) and I almost always have full bars and can get D/L speeds 20-30 easily.

Have you downloaded the 4g fixes for the VirusRom?! I hear they will bring your speeds right back up to par! I am not in a 4g area therefor i can not confirm but a lot of other users have said after they downloaded the fix everything was back to normal!
Just thought i might see if that helps. Good luck!
I called Verizon and even got tier 2 tech support...they said they have NO upgrade for PRI......he told me to pull the batter..then the SIM card......and see if it helps....I still have 15008 PRI. The tech informed me that it depends what part of the city you are in. Maybe your wife got the wrong tower when you activated the phone and she got the 13000 when you pulled the card. Do not think there is an upgrade for this.
That is why everyone has a different PRI

I have just been lazy and haven't fixed my signiture, I am running the Das BAMF rom. Although my 4G sucks on every rom. It cuts in and out, and so forth. Unroot my phone, instant 20-30 down speeds every time.

Browse while on phone

So is this Verizon's first phone where data service stays active while on the phone? Or is this a feature that comes with hotspot?
Thunderbolt - BAMF Remix 1.5
First VZW phone that does it.
The chip they used for the CDMA radio is the first ever to allow voice and data at the same time over CDMA. Also, if you're in a 4G area, it works by keeping voice on CDMA, and of course using LTE for data.
Really? I would browse to google documents all the time while having someone on speakerphone so I could take notes...
I thought Iphone was the only smart phone that couldn't that.

if you had wifi, it would use cdma for voice and wifi for data... i used to hate those att commercials saying we couldnt because i almost always could lol
I have used it for a week, and I can tell you this: You CAN do that talk and browse the web thing at the same time on 4G AND 3G. I did it many times, and no problems. No need to jump on wifi or anything.
Shocked the hell out of one of my co-workers today doing this, since he was a die-hard AT&T fanboy and always tried to throw that up in my face, lol.
He went on to accuse me of secretly using WiFi or that it was a fake Verizon case or something.
Yeah when i read that on their website under the features I was completely sure that it would be Simultaneous voice + data ONLY in a LTE area (Like the HTC EVO and WiMax), but i was incorrect.
You can use Voice + Data while under 3G or 4G, but only if you are in an eHRPD area. (Settings > About > Network > Mobile Network Type) If it shows CDMA EVDO rev a or 1xRTT or whatever, you may not Call and use Data.
EDIT: Also, from what is available on the Net about eHRPD, this is the 'transition' between CDMA/EVDO and LTE.... It would be my guess that this means that anywhere eHRPD is available.... they should expect LTE in 2011. Just my two cents...

Hmmm.. I have been wondering why Verizon isnt using this feature to silence ATT fanboys, but I guess not everywhere with 3G supports it, so they dont want to really advertise the feature if it doesnt work everywhere.
They are most likely trying to perfect their system, as there are probably bugs (not that have seen) they would like to squash out - before going out to squash at&t.
Although i do laugh when i see that at&t commercial now....

No, eHRPD has more to do with LTE smooth handoffs than simul voice and data.

Probably cuz the iPhone doesn't use it yet?. I have only seen iphones on those att commercials doing the talk and browse thing.
I talked to a Verizon rep and asked them why all their phones didn't do this, they said something along the lines of because they wanted to keep calls on a seperate networks that way it can help stablize and keep from getting dropped calls.. Not sure how accurate that is.. I would think if they are on seperate networks then they could both be utilized..
Tbolt has two radios in it. One for voice/sms and slow data, the other for 3g/4g. That is why you can browse and talk at the same time (as long as you're in 3G or LTE area).

Not true. Sprint has roaming contracts for a reason, and we have unlimited roaming.
I've never seen anyone's contract get terminated over it, then fine, make a trip to t mobile.

This is true. Sprint and Verizon offer network reciprocity in their roaming contracts. They will work, technically, on each others networks, but the ESN lock would disallow a change.
I run a Verizon PRL on my wifes Epic and it functions just fine on Verizon towers, but will always show as "roaming". We have not had our contract termed after almost four years with various phones, because it will still default to Sprint tower first.
There are guides on how to get a Verizon PRL loaded, so go give it a try. No harm in it if you dont **** up your profile...but even then, Sprint is pretty cool about reprovisioning.
Yes you can run a Verizon prl on a sprint phone. You can't flash a sprint phone to Verizon though. It just doesn't work. And that's what the op wanted to know.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Actually, it is possible to get a Sprint phone on Verizon, but it would involve changing of the MEID/ESN, which is illegal. More or less, you trick Verizon into thinking its one of their own phones. You could try your local metroPCS, Cricket, or US Cellular dealer as they might have the experience to do this. Also, try mobile-files.us.
Also, just to re-affirm, Verizon and Sprint share the same bands 3g and 1x.

Sprint will boot you for too much roaming. Also, your roaming is not unlimited. 200mb of data roaming is all you get. Also if you use more than half of your normal voice usage in roaming, sprint can terminate your contract. I have seen it happen, I work for sprint.
This may be different when you actually use a verizon prl as I don't know how that looks to sprint on their systems. I've never tracked usage while using a verizon prl.

I have read many forums and have flashed new PRLs with QPST but have never really got it to function properly. What PRLs are working for you guys (Verizon or hybrids) and what steps do you take after you write the PRL to your phone?
Exactly what does using Verizon's prl do? I'm a little new to all of this, but to my understanding, you can basically constantly roam on Verizon's 3g network? If so, does the phone struggle at all deciding which tower to connect to (thus hurting battery life)?

I'm using a hybrid PRL that will roam on sprint and runs normally on verizon. Where I work verizon is not available so I use sprint all day while I'm there but when I'm at home I am using Verizon, the speed difference is incredible in some places, I might get 100Kb down with sprint and 300Kb with verizon, or the opposite it doesn't always work out it your favor.
And to the guy saying I'm going to have my contract terminated, why are you being such a jackass? No they aren't going to terminate me for roaming 100megs a month. Not everyone abuses the system.
*THEY mostly CARE ABOUT DATA ROAMING! SO DONT USE DATA CRAZY!!
* WHEN YOU ROAM U USE YOUR ANYTIME MINUTES*
DON'T GO OVER 300 MB in data Monthly*
ALSO NOTE that if you abuse this u get a warning letter** Ur not just dropped..
Those are the basic rules. Ive long been using a HYBRID PRL!!! and works wonders...For those who need it
Can you guys point me to where I can find the Sprint/Verizon hybrid PRL please?

Verizon and Sprint have the same frequencies. The only thing preventing you from activating the phone on Verizon would be the ESN not in their database; they will only activate phones in their database.
I know you can definitely activate it on MetroPCS/Cricket. If you just have no signal in certain areas and want to force roaming, download Roam Control. I think it's like $4 but it works beautifully and the dev even just added a homescreen widget so you don't even have to go through the app.

(Q) prl's, roaming, and cm7

I've tried several prl's on my shift running cm7 nightlies since 179 or so. I know the device is roaming after seeing my data usage, which scares the poop out of me that sprint is going to axe me.
Here's the problem. When I know I'm roaming the system (cm7) shows my service as sprint, the signal looks the same (no R or any other indicator of roaming), and speedtests etc show sprint. I saw somewhere that I could dial *2 or some code and tell the difference by the voice commands.
Is there any way to make cm7 show when I'm roaming or the name of the roaming provider? Should it be showing verizon as the provider or at least and R on the signal or data indicator?
I know the gsm phones show which provider you are currently connected to. This may just be a cdma thing.

I thought Sprint had unlimited free roaming?
You must live in bumble **** if you are seeing the "roaming" notification.
BTW you want to be using the latest radio, prl and profile.

Sprint has mediocre service here. Verizon is king in this area. The prl's I'm testing now are sprintverizon and verizonsprint. The one that ran my roaming off the charts was 00001. Its a verizon prl though, so its expected. All these are on the hero forum. I know I could get more info on the prl's there, but my issue involves the shift specificly so I was hoping someone here may know.
The prl I'm running at this moment is verizonsprint. Its default signal is verizon and if verizon signals aren't found it roams on sprint. If I read the thread correctly. Right now my signal and data indicators are normal. No R or any other indication of roaming and displays sprint.
Like I said, even on the verizon prl, it displayed sprint and no indication of roaming.
I don't live in bumfukt, but there is a community near here named egypt.
Also... on the unlimited roaming. Best to call it psuedo-unlimited. They still have constraints. Actually, one of the persons on the hero thread that helps mod these prls got a notice from sprint that they were dropping him. So, in lighter news, want out of a sprint contract.... a prl change and massive data transfer could possibly assist in getting an early termination!

Not quite. Sprint has unlimited roaming on Voice calls if you have the Unlimited Everything plan. If you have Everything Data when you roam on Voice calls minutes are deducted from your land line minutes. As for Data, if you use less then 2Gb of data a month on Sprint's network you have a 100mb roaming cap and a 300mb roaming cap if you use more then 2Gb. That's why if you're going to be roaming a lot its better to disable data roaming and rely on WiFi for data.

[Q] From sprint to AT&T..a little confused.

This Q&A has more to do with the carriers as opposed to the phone. I was with sprint for atleast 8-9 yrs. They recently cancelled my account because of excessive roaming data usage i believe. I miss sprint (unlimited data plans), anyway. I just got the HTC One x and its a great phone, but its not like my previous Evo. Some of the settings I've come to use are gone. Like, does it suppose to be an option to turn the 4g signal off like on the evo or is it just "always on". I dont see any settings for that. Regardless its not an issue since the battery like on the HOX last longer than my evo, but I was just wondering
Another question concerning roaming. Does AT&T allow roaming(stupid question)? My parents stay in the boondocks, and when I visit them, there are times when my phone completely says "No service" I've never seen this before with sprint because the phone would just connect to the Verizon tower(s) nearby. Does at&t allow this? I read in the contract about excessive roaming..but I get great service at my house, just none at theirs. (sprint on the other hand roamed at both places. hence the termination)
Just a couple of carrier related questions i guess because I've only used sprint for the entire span of my cellphone usage, and this is my first time going with a different carrier.
You can't turn LTE off as far as I know, but I think you can turn "4G" somewhere in the setting which will put you on Edge though. Only roaming you need to worry about is if you're leaving the country.
Same as above, you wont be charged for roaming unless going outside of the US. But at&t phones don't roam internationally unless you enable them to through settings, also at&t is a little bit forgiving with roaming I was in US soil in a place with good signal, but my phone decided it wanted to roam an Canada 3g since the area I was in didn't have 3g I ran up $700 bucks in data, it was like two Facebook statuses, lol. But they refunded me since I had agreed to an international data block.

I too just switched from Sprint and an Evo to AT&T and a HOX. My experience has been different, though. I have family in the sticks and Sprint would always cut out. With AT&T I get consistent coverage and with HSPA+ I am getting data speeds 5x what I got before.
But I too wish I could turn off LTE since there's none here. When the kernel source is released this should become available though on custom roms.
ok i understand now about the 4g..but if at&t allows roaming, why did my phone show "no service" is there an option i need to untick/tick to enable it. Im pretty sure i clicked "data roaming" under network settings.
When I was on the Nitro, *#*#4636#*#* gets you to where you can click "Phone Information" and towards the bottom you can change the network type. From what I remember it does not persist past reboots.
However, when I try it on the AT&T HOX, I can't get the setting to stick, it just immediately switches back to LTE, so there may not be a way for us to set the phone to HSPA+...

oh ok. For some reason i thought Verizon used gsm frequencies. ugh that sucks. The only carriers in their neck of the woods is US Cellular and Verizon i believe (27970)

Yeah, Verizon/Sprint/US Cellular use CDMA. AT&T uses GSM. incompatible technologies so you can't roam, you'll just have no service
