Can anyone please explain the choppiness effect we have on the Sensation cameras (stock and modded)?
While recording the video it's not fluid at all, but the recorded material seems allright.
Just start up camera app on a Sensation vs Galaxy S2 (or even S1, LG Optimus, etc.) and pan around without recording...you'll see what i mean.
You don't have to be in video shooting mode, photo mode has the same behavior.
Once the issue is pinned down, any chance to get it fixed?
Thanks!
bump to 10chars?
I don't have this issue. I used to, and then when I changed roms (played around testing other roms like InsertCoin/Bulletproof) the camera worked GREAT recording 1080p. I used to have that really bad choppiness effect.. couldn't even record in 1080p. Try a 3.5 rom, the camera is 100x better in sense 3.5 and EVEN better with amaze camera

i am running a custom rom based on Sense 3.5 leaked....in fact Insertcoin 3.3.2 with Amaze camera....
but that's not the issue...it is why the recorded video plays back perfectly smooth, but when recording it it looks choppy?!

That makes sense, though. When you are recording a video you are actually saving the information to the SDcard then immediately playing it back as well. Lots of processing power and lots of disk i/o at once.
It isn't quite as much when it is just playing 1080p video.

:d hi,thx~
Here is my sample .. I experience the Same Choppiness especially when you are moving the camera .. its not much when the camera is still...

Has anyone noticed that camcorder on Desire S records videos at only ~22 FPS? No matter how good light conditions are and regardless of recording resolution/bitrate - video always comes out at ~22 FPS (or less in low light conditions).
This is not because of hardware limitations, but because of camera module itself. It has noticable lag when looking through viewfinder and, of course, camera can not record what the camera can not see (more frames per sec).
On the other hand, front camera can record video at ~29 FPS VGA! Bad quality, but yeah, more FPS.
Why, in Gods name, would HTC put such bad camera module on back and (in terms of video recording fps) and better camera on front?
What method are you using to determine the FPS?
If it is just a software issue than a custom ROM should resolve it.
I have used "GSpot" app, and I don't believe this is a software issue, as I'm on my 5th custom rom.
Also, I don't think that my unit is faulty or something, all desire s cameras are like this (compared). Its a shame, because video quality is quite nice, but fps...

yeah i noticed that the other day i thought it was because i had an 8gb class 2 mem car but i recently got a 16gb class 6 and it still looks choppy and if as u say its and hard wear defect or they did it on purpose then their is no easy fix
this sucks. it kindof defeats the point of having 720p when the fps is less than 30...
Yh this is the one thing which is annoying but not a major disadvantage. Hope there is some software which can rectify this.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Can anyone please explain why the Sensation has a lower framerate when in camera mode (not shooting, just panning around) than say a Galaxy S2?
I had a GS2 for testing a few days and it's amazing how it maintains high FPS (perfect fluid panning motion) even in low light conditions. The Sensation can't do that, it turns almost into a slideshow...
I noticed the CM7 AOSP camera does a better job than stock/amaze mod, but it's still not 100% fluid.
I'm not expecting RED quality when shooting video, but the differences are quite visible between phones nowadays.
Thanks!
I would say that it the app. Because I bought anther camera app, and the FPS is much better. It still lags a bit, but not as much as the stock one.
Hi, I just flashed ARHD and the photos are not great, to say the least, in fact they are quite bad (500 kb at 8 mpx) is there any kind of flashable patch to improve the cam?
Thx in advance
Thats weird I'm not having this issue.
Can you tell me a little more about what you have flashed? A mod maybe?
Is it sensation cam or amaze cam?
I have no mods patched and the camera i refer is the built in the rom. it affects specially in dark pictures, in light photos the captures are much better.
that seems pretty normal to me. the size of my pictures have always ranged from 200kb-Xmb. the compression is pretty bad. they still look decent though. if any of you guys consistently get picture sizes in the mb then please share
I will continue to search, and share any findings
i noticed that the Sense camera app does alot of post processing even with the option checked off. it is inherent with any rom that uses the Sense cam (ie ARHD)
it's been bothering me for a while now, whenever i get into a lowlight condition, the camera fps would occasionally drop and making it lag. and the interface also has terrible lag..
as you can see from this video,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0UWTDMBsA4
while mine :
http://youtu.be/GKgWtWJ4rj4
the camera ui is buttery smooth. my camera smoothness at 0.4x speed of that in the video.
note the difference in scrolling smoothness
any idea?

Between those videos, I think the other one is using sense 3.0? Definitely an older version and I would think the quality isn't as good. Especially for sound recording. It makes nasty clipping noises. I don't really have this problem... or perhaps I just don't notice it. Mine is pretty much as fast as yours goes. I think that's just a bit of too much of a need for perfection The lag is hardly even noticeable! Of course this is for the interface. Recording isn't that bad. I think it could possibly be because of the refocusing, or w/e. I can't give you the right answer. I just know that between that video and yours, the software is different!
You're using Sense 3.5 or 3.6
The video you linked to is using Sense 3.0
There are most steps to change to the front facing camera or to video mode in sense 3.5/3.6
the low bitrate and fps really annoying.
HTC doesn't optimize it just like samsung.
The camera only record up to 20fps in low light situation and the noise(green dots) keep poping out

I dunno but this video looks fine to me

im using sense 3.6 but senseless, get it? lol
and yeah, when i bought my sensation, the camera ui is even worst than my current one. it's lagging like crazy
hey guys, today i tried using the slowmotion mode in the camera, and before you start recording the camera show good details but after you start recording the detail drops a lot, its like 360p or 480p....the resolution in fact is 720p but it doesn't look like it at all....is this how it supposed to be??
I've been wondering this as well. The slow-mo function on my Z3C was really crisp and miles better than what the S6 produces. Really weird, since the S6 camera beats it hands down in just about every other sense...
