New phone for my wife - T-Mobile LG G2x

My wife is definitely not technologically astute so there is no need to get her anything like the G2X, Hercules, Amaze etc, but she wants to get something witha decent camera. Does anyone here have experience with either the Galaxy S or the HTC HD7? I have done my research but just wanted to see what people who have the G2X think of either of those devices.

I suggest sticking with Android

They gave her the Galaxy S for free. Can't beat that. She isn't going to root and she doesn't care about flashing roms so it's a solid device. Still no match for my g2x though.

Galaxy S is a great phone if being underpowered isn't an issue. Good choice!

get a Nokia N8 or E7 I don't remember which one have better camera, but it is the best camera phone.

Or the MyTouch 4G Slide? Camera is supposed to be amazing, and features a "zero shutter lag" mode for instant shots. However, it's not free. Planning on getting it for my wife. I don't really like HTC but I'm sure she doesn't care. Haha...
Edit: Looks like the SGSII has a better camera. She'll probably get that instead.

Bought my wife the galaxy s for mothers day... Her first smartphone... she loves it and ttakes a ton of pics ....

Should've gotten her a Nokia C7 Astound if you were looking for a decent camera and wanted to stick with a tmobile phone. The C7 has hands down thee best camera. The lens allows focal aperture of f/2.8-4.3 which allows you to take professional looking pictures.
Or ofcourse the Nokia N8...with 12MP you can't go wrong.
And everyone knows Nokia is the most userfriendly phone you could ever get.

If you want hands down the best user experience I would go Windows Phone 7 especially since Mango is rolling out. You can't go wrong with it. The thing never freezes or slows down. Its basically bullet proof. Obviously the HD7 doesn't have the best camera although the Venue Pro does have a better one and you would have to wait a bit to get the new WP7 phones with front facing cameras and good rear cameras.

Switching from MT4G to Vibrant 4G?

Anyone making the switch over? I'm definitely thinking about doing it!! Might just sell my baby for that new baby!
Samsung = Fail no matter how many times they remake a phone
I might do it... If I can find someone to trade without any cash for a MyTouch...
But I don't know, it's the same thing except with 2.2 and a FFC.
I really want that screen though.

let's see...
1. SamSux has screwed me once already with the Behold2.
2. They have shrunk the internal storage from 16GB to 1GB (Vibrant to Vibrant4G).
3. yeah their screen is bigger and looks better indoors and on cloudy days, but I live in Texas as a Trucker and we have many more Sunny days than cloudy.
4. MT4G = 756MB RAM, Vibrant/Vibrant 4G = 512MB RAM.
in short not just NO!!! but OH HELL NO!!! I don't care if SamSux but out a triple-core 5GHz processor... Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I don't do well when I am the cause of my own shame.
Edit : where I got my specs for it http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_4g-3719.php
Oh hell no. With the specs you just posted, hell no. I like the mytouch even more now. Lol

No more Samsung for me. Ever.

Mytouch 4g / CM7 / Minimalist Theme
I once liked Samsung
I had a vibrant and i loved it when it came out, then as half a year passed i still didn't have 2.2 froyo, it was just ridiculous even phones like the lg optimus had 2.2, if touchwiz was delaying the release of 2.2 get rid of it, then the nexus s came out and it was running 2.3, which pissed me off even more to have a phone that is considered top of the line running outdated software. so i got rid of the vibrant, got a mytouch 4g rooted it , installed CM7 nightly build (2.3) and i get updates daily, i will never go back to samsung for anything electronic.Never.
Why would anyone want to trade what I feel is a far superior phone for something they will have nothing but problems with. The MyTouch 4G superior in every way besides the screen display. The screen IMO isn't that much better them the MyTouch 4G. I happen to have one of the good screens.
Nexus One & MyTouch 4G
Vinny
Can not put my Nexus One down.
The Vibrant 4G is just a marketing ploy for people with Vibrants with 2.2 (which it just got) to switch over to 2.3, instead of just updating the software. Don't get me wrong, the Galaxy S is a great phone. Samsung just wants to make money while not caring about the consumer.
I wouldn't do it ....I would just wait for something better like a dual core phone ......I had the vibrant before my mt4g and yeah screen was good but so many problems with lag and updates for it ......I'm super happy with my mt4g I will upgrade as soon as something better comes out but foe now mt4g is the best out there for now ......

for me software is not important, it's the hardware that attracts me as i flash custom roms all the time. the vibrant does have a good development community so if software is not an issue then i say go for it, however, i suggest you just wait because the galaxy s2 will be announced 2 mondays from now and you can be sure that bad boy is coming to t-mobile. or you can wait for the htc inspire...either way my next phone will definitely be a dual core.

Software is very important. Go read Engadgets review of the Optimus 2X. Best hardware on any phone out there but horrible software that can cripple the phone. Samsung's software is horrible and crippled the Vibrant.
Samsung sucks, they screwed up the behold 2 which was great hardware. They screwed up the Vibrant which was great hardware. The Vibrant 4G will suck. The only phone they make that is good is the Nexus S because its stock google software.
If you upgrade or get a good deal then I guess it's ok. But if you purchase this phone at full retail for 650 buck... you're a moron.

Nexus S or LG G2x?

Hey Everybody,
*Posted this up in the LG forum for the Optimus 2x. Wondering what thoughts you all may have as well. Thanks!
Well I've had my Nexus S since March 23 and I've really enjoyed trying out various roms and tinkering around with the Android OS. (I came from an iPhone 4 on at&t.) Now I feel like I'm at a crossroad trying to decide what phone to stick with for the next year or so. I have till the 23 to return the nexus to best buy. I bought unlocked and if I do decide to switch I'll do the same with the G2x. How many of you are coming from the nexus s on this forum and what made you want to switch the most? I'm primarily concerned with the battery life on the G2x and updates either from LG or modders. The things I don't like about the nexus s are 3G data speeds (2.5-3 down and 1-1.5 up in my area, Birmingham, AL) and 1 day to day in a half battery life. What would you guys or girls do in a similar situation? Can anyone comment on the "4G" data speeds in this area of the country or in general on T-Mobile? I've read various reports of speeds from 5-9 Mbps down and your average up. I also hope the 4G won't kill battery and we'll have a killswitch when not in use. I'm sure most have seen the mobileburn video, she seemed to put down the nexus s screen in favor of the G2x. I find that hard to believe seeing how awesome the samoled screen looks and how black the blacks are. Anyone who's seen the G2x in store that can confirm the findings she had? Thanks for any help anyone can offer up!

the nexus s will always get first hand on new version of the update, i chose the nexus s because it contains no junk.
I think you can make an argument for both phones either way. The differences I really see in the phones is that the LG has 4g, a dual core processor, hdmi out, and records 1080p...whereas the nexus S has NFC, gingerbread, sip calling (feature of gingerbread).
I don't see the G2X having 4g that big of a deal to me considering that I regularly get 3-6 megs download speed on my Nexus S. I compared it with a friends Galaxy S on 4g and we pretty much always got around the same speeds ( so I don't really see the 4g speed being a big difference maker...it just sounds good).
The G2X has a dual core processor...well I don't have any speed problems with the Nexus S at all. The phone runs perfectly fine and doesn't slow down, so yeah dual core sounds good but at the present time I don't think it is really going to be truly taken advantage of and is thus overkill.
For me, I had hdmi out on my evo and never once used it, so that is a moot point for me.
1080p recording in my opinion is another one of those things that just sounds good to have. In reality it really isn't any more useful than standard def recording. On my EVO and my Nexus one I could record in 720p and all that really resulted in was much larger video files. I'm not sure I even saw a noticeable difference in video clarity than in standard def.
Eventually the G2X will get gingerbread I'm sure, but in the meantime I would miss having SIP calling as I do use it. As for the Nexus S having NFC, that's another one of those things that sounds good, but until it is actually put to use in the real world it isn't very useful.
All in all I don't see enough difference in the G2X to warrant me taking back my Nexus S (I'm still in my return policy) and paying more for the G2X. I just don't see what I'd be paying more for.
I don't get caught up in the speed war. 3g or 4g, for 99% of what I do, I don't think I would see a difference, both are fast. Tethering might be impacted, but it's something I rarely do.
Hardware wise, both phones are blazing fast. So in the end, it comes down to software, pure google or lg's framework and update schedule
I other the google experience, unpolluted by anyone.

I'm still on the fence. No 4G in my area. My Nexus is plenty fast. I'll have to play with one.

in terms of hardware.. yes, in terms of software... no
and hardware isn't that far off, you're losing Super AMOLED
You could always return the Nexus S. Get the G2X. Then decide. If you liked the NS better, you can return the G2X and go buy the NS again or keep the G2X. Whatever you decided to go with.
I looked into the Nexus One forum once and they were calling the G2X the TRUE NEXUS 2 PHONE. Yeah, I was like ? They really need to get their minds out of the gutter. I saw an unboxing video and the G2X still had some T-Mobile apps in there like the App Pack, Telenav, and some other ones. So it's not even a "true Google experience phone" per say.
You could also wait for the HTC Sensation. Now, that is the phone that I would be willing to give up the NS for, but I wouldn't since I like the NS and will be keeping it until another Nexus phone comes out.
I suggest trying both since you have that option and decide for yourself. You're money, you make the call.

Agreed its preloaded with N.O.V.A. too. But I give props for making "stocklike" ROMs as their stock.
And it won't necessarily mean it'll have top of the line updates either.
Look at the G2, WOOOOOH its stock! where's gingerbread? Yeah. thats right. (Not counting CM7)
IMO: Galaxy S II > HTC Sensation > LG G2x
I personally dont like G2x's bottom. It has WAY too much room.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/15/htc-sensation-versus-the-rest-of-the-dual-core-world-smartphone/
Let me start by saying that I really love my nexus s, it's fast, and with cyanogenmod the battery life is awesome. The screen is great, but coming from an AMOLED phone before this, I don't get the hype.
That said, if I were to make a decision about a phone now, I'd go for the LG. With the tegra 2 chip, the phone is plenty future proof. Nvidia seems pretty serious about taking the phone market with apps specifically for the tegra 2 chip. I know there's no point in playing the ghz game, it's endless, but if you can do it for free (nearly) then I don't see why you shouldn't go through with the swap.
Part of the reason I bought my nexus s was stock android, but cyanogenmod offers battery life and all the awesomeness of stock.

Inspire as a first android phone

Since the G2x is a no go, do you all think that the Inspire would be a good choice for a new comer into the android world? I need something that can be easily unlocked and that works on a 850 band for 3g... Was hoping for somehting a bit more up to date, but what do you think? Thank everyone!
This isn't exactly an outdated phone by any means... It's not like you're buying an Aria. Get it and be happy. I just got mine yesterday, after I gave up my EVO to go to T-mobile. I missed that big screen too much.
I think its a good choice and the devs have a good hack kit that's pretty easy to follow. Also it may not be a dual core.but I think the phone.holds its own just fine
Thanks for the opinions so far! As for being out of date, what i was more specifically referring to is it's lack of hdmi out and front facing cam.
From what I have read and continue to hear, this is a great phone though...!
Would like to hear some more opinions though before pulling the trigger although i feel like i might go ahead and buy it tomorrow If anyone has some suggestions on a brick and morter store in the US that my friend can go to to pick one up (prefferably unlocked) that would be great. Online is ok as well, but i would have to do a reliable next day shipping as my friend will not be there for long. Suggestions? Thanks again!
The phone is super fast. This is my first Android and its rooted and Rom'd already after only 4 days. Hdmi out is a gimmik. I don't see a better phone for ATT now or the near future. The build quality is great and it looks cool. Top notch ..get it.

Don't fall for gimmicks; ask yourself how often you really would use those features. I think I used FaceTime once on my old iphone and there's never been a point where I wish I had HDMI out. To me, it's all just marketing telling you what you want when you don't need it.
The Inspire's brilliant, even stock. Root it, flash a custom rom, be happier. I was on the fence between it and the Atrix and, after reading problems about the Atrix (mostly the bootloader being locked down which kind of goes against everything Android stands for) I'm more than happy I went with the Inspire.

If those features are important to you, then no, it's obviously not the phone for you. If you don't see yourself using them, then no worries.
It's my first Android phone too.... great phone, right out of the box. Beautiful, fast, elegant, several friends who have the iPhone 4 were jealous of it. One went out the next week and got the Inspire.
You won't be disappointed in it.

I had the Atrix for 3 weeks before getting the Inspire and used the HDMI output exactly once to browse my pictures and listen to music on my TV, was cool but not very practical for me. The front facing camera on the Atrix and my iPhone 4 would be very choppy and drop the calls pretty frequently when I tried to use. It works great if both callers are using strong WiFi. Plus the person you're calling needs a front facing camera on their device. I'm waiting for the network to be able to handle it before I think about a front facing camera again.
Loving my Inspire.
I agree with the other posts in this thread. It's not that the Inspire isn't "up-to-date", it's that a few other phones are on the bleeding edge. There are also phones that don't yet have 1G processors.
Like anything else, it all depends on what you're after, but I chose the Inspire over the Atrix for its build quality and ability to flash custom ROMs, something not possible on the Atrix... yet. Also, the dual core CPUs might have incrementally higher benchmarks, but in actual use from a user experience standpoint, they're not noticeably faster than the Inspire.
I had a Kaiser with the front-facing camera because I thought that was cool, but didn't use it once.
The Inspire offers DLNA, so if you have a network-enabled TV or BluRay player (and most of us do nowadays), you can pass video, music and pictures to your screen over the network. It's pretty cool stuff.
What really got me was the build quality. HTC makes a very nice phone. It feels good to hold - solid and has some substance, unlike the Atrix and others like it that are light and feel fragile.
Also, if you're upgrading on contract, you have 30 days to live with it, so if you decide you don't like it, you can return it and jump ship.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Give one a try and you'll see what I mean.
Ask what phone is best in every forum and i bet most people will say that the phone for which forum you're in is best. That is to say pride of ownership is ever present in todays society. Not that its a bad thing, hell my best friend is proud . I love my inspire, but there are some crazy bad ass phones coming out. The first factor I look at is dev support and hackability. Good luck.

Like the majority of people have stated - it is fantastic, get it!
This is also my first Android phone, though I'm not new to the tech world of hacking, rooting, flashing, etc etc. I gave up on the iPhone after having every model since the original and couldn't be happier with this phone. Front facing camera (in my opinion, of course) is useless. I might have used mine on the iPhone 4 a few times. HDMI out is of absolutely no interest to me - I've got plenty of other ways to stream things through my house.
I can say, I'm thoroughly glad that I didn't go with the Atrix and I'm also impressed with the HTC modding community - there are some incredibly intelligent and fantastic people here to help and share the fun with!
I was on the fence for awhile but decided to take the dive. Do I miss my iPhone 4? Yes. Have I fallen in love with the Inspire and Android's potential? Even more so. The phone is far from being outdated and some of these custom ROM's make my work day and general user experience something I wouldn't trade up for.
Like others have said though, if the front facing camera and the HDMI out are a deal breaker for you - then that's your own opinion/decision. For me, it doesn't matter and it didn't affect my decision.
Cheers and let us know what you decide to do!!

[Q] Worth upgrading to over HTC G2?

Still on the fence on what I'd want to upgrade to from my current HTC G2...the main thing I'm looking for is a front-facing camera (for Skype calls), and I'm not sure whether I want a physical keyboard or not (with how few decent ones are being released anymore). One thing I do know is that I want to stick to T-Mobile for their cheap plan pricing. Other phones I'm seriously considering are the G2x and the Streak 5 (AWS/T-Mobile version, as hard/expensive as it may be to get).
Anyway, few things I'm wondering, though:
-What's the quality of the secondary camera like? Any good? Does it work with Skype video chat?
-What's battery life like? I can easily get through two days at least with my G2 with moderate use, and probably even better with a better ROM/kernel/etc.
-How does the keyboard compare to the G2's in both quality and features?
-What's the screen quality like, particularly outdoors? Any better or worse than the G2?
-What's the development outlook like (especially for AOSP/CM7-like stuff)? The G2 seems to be pretty active, with an ICS port already in the works...not sure how the myTouch compares.
-How do the processor/graphics compare? I know it's a dual-core, but is it any good? Not in terms of gaming power, though, just daily use - my G2 is smooth for most uses, but it still lags a bit here or there...
Basically I'm just wondering if the $400+ off-contract price is worth it, or if I should get the cheaper G2x (at around $250) or the Streak 5 with its huge screen.

Don't get the streak.
G2x is supposed to be a gaming phone. No keyboard or great camera. Although its a good phone.
Our phone has a way better keyboard. I hate the g2s keyboard. It looks flimsy. At the hinges. Other than that the keyboard is the same I think. Alt is used for numbers.
Screen quality is very good. Outdoors direct sunlight will make a huge glare though.
We have several roms. Aosp sense and hybrids. And a few kernels. G2 has been out longer and has more roms etc. G2x I think is in the same boat as us.
Battery life depends on use and how you use it. I can have the battery last. 3 days or a few hours.
I game on my slide. I haven't lagged once and I play graphic rich games like order and chaos. Everyday use I watch netflix and browse internet no problems. This phone is very fast. Also takes great pictures. No lag or shuttering whatsoever.
I don't use skype or the front camera so no comments on that.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply - other than the lack of development for it, why shouldn't I consider the Streak? And I know the G2x doesn't have a keyboard, but it'd be the logical (and cheap) upgrade for me from a G2.

I've had many problems with dell streaks from 5 to 7. I just had a streak 7 that was stuck in read only mode. I've just had bad experiences. I fix phones on the side that's why I say that.
G2x is a good phone. I was making the debate as you did. Hardware keyboard, tv out and camera is what sold me.
As far as logcial goes. I think your best logical step is to the slide, since your phone g2 has more things in common with the slide than the g2x. Just wanted to point that out.
Price wise I thought g2x and slide were the same? I know they were for me. G2x must be on special or something.

Ah, good to know about the Streaks. I had a Streak 7 and wasn't a fan of the screen quality in portrait mode, but that was my only complaint.
And true, the TV-out on the Slide is more useful to me - one of the two TV's I'd ever use the function doesn't have HDMI inputs, making composite more useful to me (plus the cable is smaller/cheaper from what I've seen).
I just figured the G2x would be the step up mainly by the name, but also because it has a bigger/better screen (one thing I really dislike about the Slide - same size screen as the G2).
And price-wise (I'm looking ay off-contract because I'm looking to use it with T-Mobile's value plans - can't afford an actual contract plan) - the G2x is as cheap as $250 for like-new (with box and all accessories) on eBay, while it's $350+ for the Slide (with less people selling them too).

From what I understand, almost all of the issues are software-related and have been fixed since launch either through official updates or ROMs (like CM7). I have heard of a few hardware ones like bad backlight bleeding and whatnot, though...and personally, I find the G2 to look much nicer than the Slide, with the more square edges and the aluminum.
Actually, while on the topic of comparing phones - how does the Sidekick 4G compare to the Slide? Honestly, my point-and-shoot camera is light/compact enough and powerful too to make a phone camera mostly an afterthought. And my G2 does just about everything fine, so I'm pretty sure the extra 200Mhz and the better GPU will suffice.

I still have the G2 as a backup phone. My only issue with the MT4GS is the lack of dev support and everyone slamming physical keyboards (are they forgetting that was one of the selling points of the G1?).

I just came from the G2 and I think its definitely a upgrade. Not by a lot but better camera, more ram, faster proscessor. Hopefully soon the developer support gets better soon. The g2 has lots of developers but go there and u will see its all the same sense roms I'm not lying.

Yeah. The only real AOSP dev is blah. MexDroid is good eye candy but is so much like GingerVillain it runs the risk of being classified as "kanged."

If you are going to root the phone and use custom roms you are talking about more than a 200mhz jump. My MT4GS is at 1700mhz on both cores. That's more than a little increase from the the G2, which I also owned.
I can't live without the keyboard honestly. I have been thinking about making a mega-keyboard post cuz I don't think folks really utilize the hotkeys and thus, the real power of the keyboard, at all. I start all the apps I use from the keyboard and hardly ever go hunting around in app drawers for anything. It's super fast access to programs while maintaining an uncluttered homescreen.
The Genius button can be useful if you're into that. If not, the button can be remapped to do whatever it is you need more.
The front-facing camera works with Skype, Fring and GTalk. I can confirm that. I'm sure it works with other services as well. I wish there were more developers for the MT4GS. Coming from the Vibrant (in between my G2 and my MT4GS) I am accustomed to many more options. But the hardware for this phone is so good that I have stayed.
I used to flash roms at least once a day. I love options and getting the most out of hardware. So believe me, it takes a beast of a phone to keep me around with such a scarcity of deving goin on.
That said, we do have some talented devs like Blue, Undead, Computerkid, Chris, kornyone, et al. So I say go for it!! Join the fun.

The 200mhz was referring to the Sidekick, I'm well aware the Slide is dual-core.
Thanks for the info, though, definitely interested in the phone.

i had the g2 and had the options from mt4gs or sk4g. i got the slide cause sidekick was just too skinned for me.
the camera is deff an upgrade. specially if you keep a sense rom.
battery life will never be as good. i have an extended battery with each phone..
probably when more dev comes along this phones true potential will come out like the g2's has..
i only paid 130 for mine from insurance.. so it wasn't as bad as 400+ like you might be spending.. maybe try findin one used? it'll have a warranty if its not to old anyways.. or insurance claim? thats how i got mine.

A2EXT loads much slower on MexDroid than it does on PyroMod and it runs the DT A2SD script. PyroMod's A2SD script is an original work (I looked over the code). If you still have your G2, try out both ROMs after reading the instructions for both thoroughly.

Sticking with the Bolt, personal opinion!

I'm holding out, nexus doesn't impress me against what I already have. Would only gain on dual core. Waiting for a couple coming releases offering good specs with multi-core. HTC is already playing with a quad-core, waiting to see if it will still have a early year release! I like changing phones, but its better to feel like im actually upgrading!
I'm good with my Thunderbolt, have good battery life, clocking @1.6ghz, and has better camera. Not dropping from 8 to 5mp. Thats weak, thats why thunderbolt was reviewed to have the best mobile phone camera. Ha, my front camera takes better pictures than iphones do.

Google Talk Video Chat Issues
I've liked the Thunderbolt pretty well, but since we finally got the ability to use Google Talk for Video Chat, I've been VERY irritated that I can never get it to work over Mobile Data.
Have you experienced this issue? Video Chats should work just fine over a 4g connection, but basically every time I try to initiate or accept a video chat on my Thunderbolt it doesn't connect and says something about a "Network Issue."
I am able to successfully get vid chats working over WiFi... but come on.... this is supposed to be the Flagship 4G device. Video chat needs to work.
Anyone else experiencing the same?
Any suggestions on a fix?
lovin my tbolt still.. hell i remembered reading leaks about it..my morning newspaper was reading up about this phone, love the design and specs....rooted with bamf forever rom, clocked, custom kernel lovin it still.. and eventually we'll get cm9 gonna sit back n wear this phone out until a quadcore or something
Gtalkenabler from market will solve that for you!

I agree my thunderbolt runs nice rooted with custom Rom, updating to rezound battery was all I really needed. Class 10 32gb is only upgrade I need now

The MP argument isn't valid. MP are not everything. I have seen pictures taken on the iPhone 4S and they truly are better looking than my bolt's pics. I'm not even an iPhone fan no would I want an iPhone but saying that your camera on your bolt is better than the iPhone 4S' is just being stubborn.
In terms of the nexus upgrade, a lot of people said the same about our phone when it was released. Hardware wise the TB was going to be (and has been) overshadowed by newer devices. It's all preference. I would love to have a Nexus just because I can finally have an AOSP phone. If you prefer sense that's different.

With CM9 around the corner and almost a completely functional MIUI, why change?
I keep wondering what is wrong with me because I have absolutely no interest in the Gnex at all - its nice to know I'm not the only one! The Gnex seems like the ultimate geek phone so I feel like I should want it, but I'm happy with my Bolt. The fact that I don't have an upgrade until May helps too....

Duely blundered from my thunderdolt
I am sticking with the Thunderbolt as well. One thing that I will really miss when I do change is the kickstand. I didn't think much of it when I first got the phone, but it is really something that I use everyday.

I mean I would prefer an AOSP phone with the support of a nexus device. Getting these upgrades pushed immediately and without major bugs would be great. MIUI is functional but audio wise it's still pretty messed up. No disrespect to the devs, just that the audio output on MIUI seems to be low quality right now.
All in all, like I said it's all preference. the SAMOLED screen is another huge plus for me as well. I like AMOLED so much more than LCD
Yeah, I can qualify for an upgrade through VZW, but I'm not super impressed by the Nexus. I'll have to see how the Droid 4 turns out though (envious of slide-out keyboards). The Nexus still has verizon bloatware -- I'm not sure what else they've managed to stuff in there. Either way, I'm still pretty pleased with the Bolt.
I love my Tbolt. Best phone I've ever had.
I was very excited about the gnexus, even though I don't have an upgrade any time soon! The camera on the gnexus is FAST! I've seen video of it taking pictures every 3 seconds or so, and stock ICS is soooo sexy. However, the gnexus phone will be obsolete in a few weeks (of course thats with any phone)
The Bolt was my first HTC phone (I always had Moto before that) and I don't think I'd ever go away from HTC now. I like the Bolt that much. I did use a corporate upgrade to get a Rezound but ended up giving that to my wife in exchange for her Bolt so now I have an extra one I can try things out on while keeping my Bolt as the daily driver. I'm running BAMF Forever on the DD and InfectedROM's Sense 3.5 build on the experimental (and hopefully at some point an ICS build with working data.) The phone is just a workhorse and with all the dev work on this phone it's the flagship for me.
Definitely Keeping

Totally agree! HTC's put kickstands on other phones; I hope they come up with a true upgrade that still has one (only this time one that flips OPPOSITE the battery charging port...)
Agree with the others in the thread as well that there really isn't a truly better phone out there yet on all dimensions; TBolt is still very relevant.

This...to an extent. In regards to seeing a difference between 5MP and 8MP, really the only time that you'll truly notice a difference is if you are blowing up the picture in larger format (8.5x11.5 +), but first you have to take into consideration that most people use their cellphone cameras for:
A) taking/uploading photos/videos to social networking sites (e.g. facebook et al - which already compresses the hell out of the photos anyways)
B) for prints (if even) 5x7 and lower which you will not notice the difference.
Now with it being a cellphone camera of course the pictures aren't going to look as good as a camera with a lot better sensor (or even one at all). The reason why Samsung went with a 5MP camera instead of the more standard 8MP is that the 5MP camera has a better aperture which gives you an almost instant photo instead of waiting forever for it to focus and gather all the light information in order to take the photo.

You know they make cases that have kickstands built onto them for phones without them, right?
Yep going to be rocking my bolt for almost another year
I've played with various dual core phones and I see no real speed improvement over the 1.4ghz thunderbolt, and the nexus camera downgrade makes me somewhat uninterested in that phone, as much as I like nexus phones, I still like to have an sd card, it's a major downside to me. Unless it breaks, I'll be rocking this phone till november of this year, when I have an upgrade available, I'll wait for a quad-core phone with an LTE chip that is significantly better off battery wise.
I'm happy with my Thunderbolt for now. I got lucky and got it as a mid-contract upgrade on Craigslist - brand new for $200 and I'd only had my Incredible for a year. The build quality is the best part, in my mind. It feels indestructible.
I use TANGO for video chatting.. works flawlessly for me.. 3G-4G-Wifi. Plus its cross platform so you can video chat with your lame iphone friends. Free download from the app store.. check it out.
Ten things I love about the thunderbolt:
1.kickstand, wanted it ever since my brother got his EVO 4g
2.the dev work for the phone is amazing, over 50 diff ROMs.
3.the speed and overclockability
4.Looks and performs sleekly
5.A front facing camera
6.almost no problems with it (that's just me)
7. I get 23 hours of battery life now with kernels
8.meallic finish (hated the evos plastic)
9. TRUE 4G (not that crap Sprint is trying to sell)
10. Does everything I want
