Anyone making the switch over? I'm definitely thinking about doing it!! Might just sell my baby for that new baby!
Samsung = Fail no matter how many times they remake a phone
I might do it... If I can find someone to trade without any cash for a MyTouch...
But I don't know, it's the same thing except with 2.2 and a FFC.
I really want that screen though.

Yeah, but a WAY better screen that you could notice!!! And I like the physical appearance on it more then the MT4G.
I think you should wait for THIS instead

+1 on that haven't you guys noticed that Samsung is the worst when dealing with support lol. If your gonna get a new phone might as well wait for some dual cores to come out.

let's see...
1. SamSux has screwed me once already with the Behold2.
2. They have shrunk the internal storage from 16GB to 1GB (Vibrant to Vibrant4G).
3. yeah their screen is bigger and looks better indoors and on cloudy days, but I live in Texas as a Trucker and we have many more Sunny days than cloudy.
4. MT4G = 756MB RAM, Vibrant/Vibrant 4G = 512MB RAM.
in short not just NO!!! but OH HELL NO!!! I don't care if SamSux but out a triple-core 5GHz processor... Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I don't do well when I am the cause of my own shame.
Edit : where I got my specs for it http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_4g-3719.php

No more Samsung for me. Ever.
I will, however, be the first in line for the HTC Pyramid (or whatever the final product will be called).
I also would like to laugh at you for downgrading so please switch
Mytouch 4g / CM7 / Minimalist Theme
I once liked Samsung
I had a vibrant and i loved it when it came out, then as half a year passed i still didn't have 2.2 froyo, it was just ridiculous even phones like the lg optimus had 2.2, if touchwiz was delaying the release of 2.2 get rid of it, then the nexus s came out and it was running 2.3, which pissed me off even more to have a phone that is considered top of the line running outdated software. so i got rid of the vibrant, got a mytouch 4g rooted it , installed CM7 nightly build (2.3) and i get updates daily, i will never go back to samsung for anything electronic.Never.
Why would anyone want to trade what I feel is a far superior phone for something they will have nothing but problems with. The MyTouch 4G superior in every way besides the screen display. The screen IMO isn't that much better them the MyTouch 4G. I happen to have one of the good screens.
Nexus One & MyTouch 4G
Vinny
Can not put my Nexus One down.
The Vibrant 4G is just a marketing ploy for people with Vibrants with 2.2 (which it just got) to switch over to 2.3, instead of just updating the software. Don't get me wrong, the Galaxy S is a great phone. Samsung just wants to make money while not caring about the consumer.
I wouldn't do it ....I would just wait for something better like a dual core phone ......I had the vibrant before my mt4g and yeah screen was good but so many problems with lag and updates for it ......I'm super happy with my mt4g I will upgrade as soon as something better comes out but foe now mt4g is the best out there for now ......

for me software is not important, it's the hardware that attracts me as i flash custom roms all the time. the vibrant does have a good development community so if software is not an issue then i say go for it, however, i suggest you just wait because the galaxy s2 will be announced 2 mondays from now and you can be sure that bad boy is coming to t-mobile. or you can wait for the htc inspire...either way my next phone will definitely be a dual core.
A 2011 smartphone with no camera LED? What a joke.

Software is very important. Go read Engadgets review of the Optimus 2X. Best hardware on any phone out there but horrible software that can cripple the phone. Samsung's software is horrible and crippled the Vibrant.
Samsung sucks, they screwed up the behold 2 which was great hardware. They screwed up the Vibrant which was great hardware. The Vibrant 4G will suck. The only phone they make that is good is the Nexus S because its stock google software.
If you upgrade or get a good deal then I guess it's ok. But if you purchase this phone at full retail for 650 buck... you're a moron.

I had for two months a MT4G and first I hated it because it was so different. I came from a Nexus One with Stock Froyo and Sense UI was overwhelming me. After 2 months I really appreciated all the small nice features that HTC integrated that stock android never had. Additionally, the MT4G is a great, fast and well built phone (I had also trouble with squeaky buttons and the bad screen) and Froyo 2.2.1 with Sense was running very smoothly on it. Last weekend I dropped my MT4G and the screen broke and the buttons and trackpad scratched. So I took the opportunity to buy the Samsung Nexus S. I wanted to give it a try and wanted to see how gingerbread looks. The phone is nice except the already known flaws. The SAMOLED is for my taste too dark and not sharp enough. But I could definitely live with that. The most disappointing thing was gingerbread. I couldn't believe what a half baked version of android Google put on this phone. It's embarrassing. The browser is useless with or without flash because it is not hardware accelerated? Everything is choppy and laggy. I had the MT4G before and its browser is smooth and fast. The NS is a pain while scrolling between homescreens....it lags, it misses swipes it drove me nuts. I tried several homelaunchers and the lag on the homescreen and the missed swipes were still present. I wanted to try the FFC just to realize that it is not supported by any 3rd market software (Tango doesn't really work) and neither by Google itself. Are you really kidding me? Yesterday after a week I had enough. Today I returned the phone mainly because of gingerbread and I am happily awaiting my MT4G. I will buy one tonight and I couldn't be more happy with HTC and Sense. I am not even anxiously waiting for gingerbread anymore for my MT4G.
thanks, may pass on the nexus s and wait for another 4g phone before switching to tmobile. thought about buying a new mytouch 4g and trading it for the nexus s and going on a two year contract .

The problem was probably it being by Samsung. Many users have reported Gingerbread running fine on HTC phones.

Could be. But most of the bugs should have been observed prior to release of this phone. The browser lag, flash unusable and that the phone reboots while on the phone doesn't sound like they tested the NS vigorously. The Nexus S is officially not a dev phone and to put something like that to BestBuy is unbelievable. BTW I had two Nexus S and both were buggy.

I'm tempted to, hopefully going to check it out tomorrow. If I like it I may purchase a mytouch 4g for $99 on a two year contract. Trade the mytouch 4g for a nexus s then, and still have my old mytouch 4g which I purchased off craigslist for $250 brand new.

I had the same experience like you. I bought one of CL pretty cheap and sold it shortly after, later on i acquired 2 brand new in box Nexus S and sold it, the thing is i was never tempted to try on the phone again.
I found the same flaws you had in the Nexus S. The phone feels slow, more like a reskined vibrant with gingerbread. While i think 2.3 is nice because higher build android means always better but after using so many stock roms i don't buy the GOOGLE EXPERIENCE anymore, let me explain:
Basic things like dialer, is a pain in the a** to scroll through the call logs or contact list to call someone, yeah favorite helps but that is another extra step you have to take when making a call. HTC's dialer while overloaded it can easily search through your contact list when you touch dial their name on the numpad. Then you get the bonus of recording calls for important things you need out of the box without the need to wait for the deving team.
The stock browser sucks, no text reflow, well yes the nexus s owners will tell you to press on the zoom in/out soft buttons to reflow, again another extra steps.
Then the whole lag in a phone that is not suppossed to lag. Browser lags and the OS just doesn't feel as smooth as one hope to be, well feels smooth brand new but after some usage it starts to drag on its knees.
Well again the GOOGLE EXPERIENCE of customizing your phone the way you want is just plain old when back in the days android was in the baby stages the theme builders and custom launchers did a great job but i think that the users want something that works out of the box with higher level of customization than iOS.
I've went through 3 mytouch 4G, because my family members keept liking the phone so much that they wanted one for themselves and they are all been pleased, and none of them are android savy and cared enough about rooting or custom roms.
So in summary the nexus s is a nieche phone, the phone is for people who can put up with the shortcommings of a unfinished product and the patience of waiting for google to release updates. While new phones are released in the market every months I bet the nexus model will not have many followers after people see google released a half baked phone and OS when in a few months people can get dual core phones and LTE phones, google nexus one owners are still with their FULL GOOGLE EXPERIENCE and patiently waiting for "optimizations" from google. I just find it funny, it was a great thing with the nexus one because it was actually a great phone but the NS is just a quick wrapped product for the holiday season.
I know if I said that in the Nexus S forums, i'd get flamed because there are a bunch of nexus s owners that dropped 580 for the phone and need to somehow keep their ego high but this is how i feel about this whole nexus s phone.
So in summary if google released another phone, i'd really have to consider it because plain android is getting boring after 2 years of the same stuff from the G1, MT3G, Nexus1, G2, Nexus S...
Not to diss on custom rom builders either because custom roms takes time to build and by the time you have a very well composed rom, the phone has reached its EOL.
yes the nexus s does seem half baked, the nexus one was a solid phone and wouldn't mind picking up another one.

LOL. I know what you mean. I still don't understand why some people with NS have no problems at all; I had two and both had the same problems. Either they immediately root their phones and put some custom roms on it or they are ignorant. I try yo get the best bang for my bucks and at the moment it is the MT4G with Froyo. I don't even want a custom rom with gingerbread 2.3.1 on my MT4G at the moment. I wait until Gingerbread includes the new music player and GTalk supports the FFC. Let's hope soon
I had the same experience. I had a Nexus S for 2 weeks and it was terribly laggy.
I sent it back. Lucky I hadn't sold my MyTouch yet because now with CM7 Gingerbread is super snappy and amazing.
I blame Samsung. I had the Vibrant before the MT4G and it sucked as well.

Regarding the screen on the NS, I just realized that I am not a big fan of SAMOLED displays. I would always prefer a SLCD. I like the bright and sharp displays over the more vibrant but less sharp SAMOLED.
I got the NS and had it for a week and returned it.
So disappointing, the worst was not having a track pad.
Same day bought a MT4G off Craigslist.
First day I hated it, the stock browser is the worst I've ever seen.
Then I got Skyfire off the market and now I think the MT4G is the best
phone I've ever used.
I'm not giving up on the Nexus line, I still have an N1, I'm just giving up on Samsung.
Is anyone here are excited about Samsung Vibrant 4G? FFC and HSPA+ up to 21mbps? but the same old style lol..what is up with Samsung? can't they change their style? hehehe
Ewww I see Samsung failed and at it again, they have a thing for repeating and screwing users over and over. IDK why people even buy Samsung based phones these days didn't they learn from being abandoned?
BTW epsix read this thread MT4G is capped at 14.4 mb's about new Vibrant 4G in this forum we all covered it there. Its just marketing gimmick hence TMO haven't officially updated the Vibrant with 2.2 OTA? You know why? due to Samsung telling them not to as there is no diff between 4G and reg Vibrant lol other than it has AOS2.2 lol man you have to love Samsung they sure thing people are crazy or something.
PS: Folks stick with MT4G is superior than NS.
Hi, I currently have a rooted mytouch 4g running android 2.3 that I bought used off of craigslist. I got an offer to trade my mytouch 4g plus cash for a nexus s brand new. Now I don't necessarily love Samsung but the deal seems like it could be beneficial to me. Some background:
I have a mytouch with a 'bad screen'
I have absolutely none of the original packaging or accessories.
The phone is a bit scuffed up and it is purple.
Now I was hoping you guys could give me your opinion, if you were in my shoes, would you trade or keep the phone?

I wouldn't....
too many bad things about the nexus s, and far too many fones that will be released in the next few months that will outdate "kill" the nexus S while the mt4g even with a bad screen STANDS STRONG, i also have a bad screen and this is far better processor, plus you can contact htc through tmoble to possibly exchange now for the scuffs u can spend 11bucks at ur local mall and get watever color gel case u want and.u now have ur fave color mt4g in ur hands
just my opinion do sum reading thru here there are lots of negatives to the nexus s, our (mt4g) gingerbread runs wayyy better
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I honestly do not see why not... If I was in your shoes I would do it, if you don't you will probably be asking yourself what if? Plus you should factor in the following which is are you able to fully utilize hspa+ where you are.... Ultimately it also comes down to whether you have patience for Nexus S development to pick up and moreover if the mytouch better suits what you need... The Nexus S in my honest opinion is currently a better offering hardware wise and potentially (support google/dev scene) software wise with the largest omission being hspa+...
Apparently very debatable

I'm returning my Nexus S tomorrow. Picked up the my touch yesterday. So far I think this version of Sense is terrible. That, however can be fixed. Really there are a number off things I don't like about the my touch yet I will still return the Nexus. GPS, accelerometer, and compass all function much better on the my touch. Huge difference. If I'm going to spend 500 bucks on a phone I expect the features that make it more than just a phone to work well. Updates from Google are important but I would rather have well functioning hardware. If the my touch never receives another ota it's still a pretty good phone. The Nexus will probably never have a stable compass or gps. That's my take at least. There were some other hardware issues such as phantom button presses that put me over the edge with the Nexus, but that may have been cured with an exchange.

I went from the G1, which I loved, to the Vibrant, which I loved to hate. The developers did the best they could but the phone was still sitting with no official froyo six months after release, so I got fed up and sold it.
I got a Nexus S after the hype, went through two replacements before I got one that functioned properly. In the end, I still couldn't come to terms with the fact I was essentially buying another Samsung phone. I did some comparison shopping. Turned my S back for a refund and got a MT4G.
I did have to exchange the MT4G one time to get one with a good display, so I wasn't too happy at first, but now I'm much happier than I was with the Nexus S. It's got a more solid build, the camera is better, the buttons are responsive (big problem with the Nexus), the GPS locks quickly, I trust an HTC device 100x more than a Samsung device, and considering that we are getting Cyan 7 nightlies that are already fairly stable, I know I've made the right choice.

Thats what I would do... Make a post, selling a Nexus S you haven't traded for yet, and see how many hits you get... if you get some legit hits.. I would trade the MT4G for the NS and sell the NS, then buy a MT4G or wait for some of these next-gen phones to come out. I LOVE the MT4G....it is amazing...think the NS fails in comparision...and anyone that would pick a NS over the MT4G is prolly just doing so because they are google fanboys, or they don't want to admit to themselves they paid 500 dollars for a phone that is basically the iphone with bugs....I honestly don't think anyone looking at the matchup objectively would pick the NS over the MT4G. Good Luck with your decision making, hope it works out.
You really want to get some unbiased answers post this same question in the Nexus S forms... Btw, I agree with the poster above if your heart is set on a mytouch 4g turn around and sell the Nexus S you acquire and obtain a mytouch 4g with the better built screen and possibly a better exterior color, like black

LOL now now lets not be that harsh, NS can still beat down the iPanzy 4 with its eye closed. But NS does not compare against MT4G as we know TMo Project: Emerald was successful IMO they created a monster muahaha and even its brother DHD can't beat MT4G in speed yet they share similar spec. NS could have been good but its crippled by Samsung due to their inferior management and other marketing factors.
If I am not mistaken doesn't the hummingbird processor take advantage of gingerbread in ways any generation of the snapdragon processor cannot? Or was this a myth?

Originally I wanted the nexus s but my parents got me the mytouch.
To me 2.3 was a huge bonus for the nexus s but now the mytouch has 2.3 so its all good. The next advantage was the better screen for the nexus but now that super amoled two displays are coming out the nexus screen will be obsolete soon enough.although if I was you I would just wait for the phones announced at ces to come out.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yeah, you're pretty much going to get biased opinons, but I think the myTouch has a better chance of anything at this point. We got the CM7 nightys coming along nicely, and we even have a cleaned up version of the stock rom which runs like fire (Iced Glacier) and overall it supports TMobile's 4G network.
MyTouch all the way. You really don't need the NFC for another couple of years cause they're just starting to put some use to it.
MyTouch all the way, and plus read some of the stuff about the Nexus, it's having lagging issues, random reboots and such. And plus it's a Samsung device, that doesn't mean it won't get the next version of Android quick, but the fact that it's just a samsung device and that it feels like ****. The Mytouch (at least mine) feels solid.
ATM its just a myth as Hummingbird S5PC110 does not stand a chance with Snapdragon MSM8255 was only factor with 1st gen Snapdragon. But however at the same time credit must be given to SGX 540 as its slightly better than Adreno 205. Then again this is where Samsung can only excel huh in graphic and SAMOLED display. Also don't let the whole NS using ext4 BS get to you as we are still not in dualcore world fully but ext4 does have its benefits. Overall MT4G beats NS with its face down in the gutter where Samsung belongs. This device is not any type of flagship but it does have potentials as lineup device, only thing I see holding it back is Samsung lol and then again they tend to do that.
I've had both but ultimately chose the MyTouch because having 4g speeds made a huge difference in the entire experience. On the NS I was always having to run wifi. Also the NS just never felt complete. Running CM7 makes the MT4g a complete phone.

Dont, Nexus S isnt really a that good of phone plus u have gingerbread etc and Nexus S is samsung made. Cheap quality. MT4g kicks its ass in CPU and Some GPU stuff ( shader performance and more) so i say keep it
If you have 2.3 on your mt4g there is no point. That's the only thing the nexus s has over mt4g out of the box. Plus the mt4g has 4g and HTC is better than Samsung by a long shot...

So I have a G2x sitting in my shopping cart on tmo(not upgrading paying outright so no contract extenstion) and I'm faced with a huge choice. Do I buy the LG now or wait for the sensation? Like sense but always run cm for speed so every phone that I had that came with sense stock always was replaced with cm. There are pros and cons to both phones
htc sensation:better display and bigger(I actually like smaller screens)
g2x: more internal memory but less ram
htc is 1.2ghx and the g2x is 1.
It's such a hard choice to make. So my question is for those of you who got the g2x why did you get it instead of waiting for the sensation? What reasons did you have on going with the g2x as opposed to waiting for the htc? I really dont know if I should get the g2x or wait it out a bit. I don't own a G2X, only played with one alongside my NS for a bit. I don't really know that you're going to notice a huge difference in speed coming from your Glacier on CM7 at 1.5ghz ...it's a really fast phone. Are there some other features you feel like your missing with the Glacier that you could get from the G2X?
Edit: I don't have a G2x in my cart, but I'm itching too as well...!
I was waiting for the Sensation....but I only made it 4 hours on the 15th before giving in and ordering online.
Only thing I like better about the sensation is the qHD display...but the G2X screen is still nice.
I also didnt want a huge screen phone that hardly fits in your pocket, the G2X size is good.
Well, I guess I'll just list my reasons out.
1. I, like you, don't like 4.3" screens, 4" is perfect for me and the display on the G2X is fantastic, even at 800x480 resolution.
2. I figured the .2 difference in ghz wasn't a big deal considering the resolution difference in the phones, 960x480 vs 800x480. As we've all seen, the G2X smokes the Atrix because of resolution alone, despite the 512mb ram difference.
3. Ram isn't going to make the phone run any better as we've already seen in Atrix vs G2X. It will help if your running tons of intensive apps at once, but it shouldn't be making much a difference 90% of the time.
4. A lot of devs are on the fence on supporting the sensation due to locked bootloaders. Even Cyanogen has said that they may not be supporting because of that very issue. And dev support is VERY important to me.
5. HDMI Mirroring on the G2X. This feature may also be on the sensation, but I haven't heard of it yet.
In all, I'm very happy I got the G2X. It runs like a champ and that's on Froyo. I can't wait till Cyanogen7 comes out.
P.S. The Optimus 2X has already been overclocked to 1.3 and 1.4 ghz if that means anything to you.
Hope this helps man. Good luck with whatever you get.
I never want a phone that has Sense on it.
Simple choice.
Well I got it because I'm a phone junkie. And I will be getting the sensation as soon as it drops. The G2x is a great phone much better than the vibrant and when it get GB it will be better than the nexus s.

Well just the fact that it's newer tech dual core.. etc..

Thanks for that man! Is that true that Cyanogen really might not support the sensation? Dev support is also very important to me. I never rely on carriers, always the community. I too am iffy about a 4.3 inch screen. I think my screen on my mt4g is pretty big enough for me especially since I have two android tablets for when I need a bigger screen android experience

Every sense phone I have had has only had sense on it for a first few minutes out of the box. I love sense for it's eye candy but it's such a resource hog. So I always replace sense with CM
Overall you guys are happy with the g2x? build quality is solid? any issues like bad displays or any nonsense like that?
Im in the same boat. im kinda leaning towards waiting though. The g2x is an awesome device but the larger and higher res screen on the sensation is enough to make me hold off.

if this is indeed true then i would get the g2x also. higher res screen (960x540) is nice but not as important as dev support. Btw, where did you read that cyanogen might not support it?
I'm still going back and forth if I'm going to order it or wait.. part of me really wants to just click that order button.. god I think I've made much more important decisions quicker than this one..

He said it on his Twitter. HTC already announced it will have a locked boot loader. Most devs aren't going to deal with that ****. Poor decision on HTC's part because Samsung has already announced there Galaxy S II will be wide open.

i think im going back to a razor........ f this
Honestly the g2x is an amazing device and couldn't see myself using the sensation for the sole reason of just sense. I had a mytouch 4g for about 2 days and returned it for the g2 all because of sense. Now from the g2 I'm on the g2x and couldn't be happier. It's a choice you have to make but to completely honest it will be one you won't regret

So all these hours that I've been deciding... I decided to do it. It was in stock when I first put it in my cart, when I went to check out it said it wasnt available for immediate shipment. I looked at the main site and sure enough, it was out of stock Guess I will be calling the closest store in the AM seeing if they have any in stock. After looking at some vids of the sensation I think it's just too big for me. I think the biggest I would go is 4" Hope I can pick one up tomorrow
Hopefully! I'll tell you now my store was pretty well stocked and I was there about 2 hours after they opened. Funny thing is the sametime I was going in I counted about 5 or 6 other people going in for the same thing...good luck! =P

I have a mt4g and I love it. I havent had sense on it....ever. lol The first thing I did when I got it was take it out of the box, root it, installed cwr and then flashed cm 7. I really do like the eye candy of sense but I like my device to be snappy and sense doesnt usually run snappy

anyone want to buy a mytouch 4g? hahaha
I'm personally waiting on the sensation I have a g2x its a nice phone I only use it for HDMI mirroring only use for me. I'm not scared of lock bootloader just be harder to crack. People said the g2 was unhackable and look at it now. Motorola signs thiers and uses encryption. The thunderbolt was hacked as well. If their is enough support it will be broken. Alot of developers are going still get this phone. The evo3d will be hacked as well once either phone is hacked well have an opening.

Touch wiz
I believe no tetra games either.
Besides it being 1.2ghZ I don't see much difference... much rather keep the g2x. No one knows if cm7 would even be on it. Lol
Samoled looks artificially vibrant. It looks like neon colors just bursting on your eyes imo
The g2x also looks better I think...

Leaving the over boosted size aside, IMO, the biggest issue of sgs2 is there is no guarantee that it will be on t-mobile. Plus you are very likely to be forced to wait 3-4 months to see in the US market...
They need to get gingerbread out fast so I can see if they fix any of the issues I have.

Just buy whatever you like more? I'm for sure picking up a GS2 when they drop here, I couldn't care less the carrier etc. But then again I'll probably swoop a Sensation (Evo3d more likely...) too.
Ahhh...the joys of off contract purchasing.
I was in the same "dilema" because I wanted to wait for Samsung Galaxy S 2. Here was my final Pros for G2X and Cons for Samsung GS2 that lead me to go with G2X.
Pros for G2X:
---
> Tegra Processor (means Tegra zone, means future potential for Playstation support)
> Stock Android (Means higher likelihood of updates, faster device, with no UI)
[I reasoned that 1.2GHz with more RAM but Touchwiz was probably equivalent to 1.0GHz with a little less RAM but stock android, not scientific at all btw, just conjecture and uninformed estimation]
> Easier to root/mod, in case I decided to fiddle around with it in the future
> Build quality is long lasting and much more professional/sleek/awesome
Cons for SGS2:
---
> Samsung Updates are Non-Existent, GS1 just got Froyo about a few weeks ago, still no gingerbread
> New Touchwiz is nicer, but a nice piece of crap is still crap
> If I purchased I would immediately mod the phone to get stock/vanilla android (so in essence why go with it only to revert to stock)
> Build quality not as solid as G2X from what reviews say
> Final reason I decided to not wait... If history is any indication, T-mobile got the weakest iteration of the first Galaxy phone (no flash, missing features, etc)... I wouldn't be surprised if we get a T-mobile version that is missing some of the awesome features that we held out for.
The G2X is here now, is a great and fast phone and will be as powerful as the Galaxy S 2 out of the box, especially in everyday use. Aside from the defects that are being talked about, I think G2X is the better choice.
G2X
I would go with the G2x as well. Because it's stock android, t-mobile did a good job of staying out of the way here, plus touchwiz doesn't upgrade a user experience enough to be a game-changer. A lot of people believe it makes a phone worse. Beyond that, the G2x looks really nice, feels solid, and works really well, or at least should once the update comes. I say go with what you want, list your own pros and cons, watch some review videos, and make an informed decision based on your preferences, just like anyone else.
Yes, this is my first stock Android phone and I have to say I much prefer it. Although my only comparison is HTC Sense, which I didn't care for. I really liked what I saw of the GSII, but at some point you have to buy a phone instead of always waiting for the next big thing. Figured I'd buy the G2x now and I'm pretty okay with that.
because G2x is a google phone and will be updated a lot. samsung has a nice screen but that's about it. i've had 2 vibrants. nice but nothing compared to this phone. i wouldn't want to have to deal with samsungs bull**** again after it took them 8 months just to upgrade to froyo when froyo came out near the same time as the vibrant. plus you have to deal with people from india when you call support (like dell). nothing agains them but they ones across the ocean couldnt give 2 ****s about assisting us im my experience. kept getting the run around and reffered back to tmobile when tmobile is who said i needed to speak with them!
reasons? You really need reasons to not buy that hunk of plastic?
-Samsung
-Touchwiz
-No updates... EVER...
-horrible dev support
-did i mention Samsung?
Galaxy S 2 is a 4.3" phone. After your initial excitement, you'll need a phone that's practical for you.

Im returning my g2x tomorrow and waiting for the galaxy s 2
umm, SGS II is like months... MONTHS away from a US release. Why return this phone now and wait 6 months for the SGSII when you can buy this one now, and sell it down the line when the SGSII comes out, by then the demand will be just a great with all the support that this phone will have recieved
The SGS2 looks like a really awesome phone and I may upgrade to that if it ever comes to T-Mobile. Having said that, I am happy with this phone. It does more than I need it to and already has great developer support. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the SGS2 will be out late summer to early winter if you can wait that long. I would keep the G2X and wait to see if the SGS2 is worth upgrading to. Also, by the time the SGS2 comes out, something better might be unvieled.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
The SGS II see nice, but the G2x is a fine phone. I brought my last saturday and until today I don't have any issues with it. This phone is solid, have the right size, it's stock android and dual core. What more we can hope for this phone for me it's great. I read that few people have issues with the G2x that's ok can happen, but we can prejudiced the phone just for that. Just my 2 cents.
i got g2x but return it after 10 days of use, 1st unit suffered from rebooting problems and same for backlight bleeding. 2nd unit was a bit better but the backlight bleeding was still there and the terrible battery life was unacceptable.
i'm a big fan of stock android and owned htc g1, nexus one and htc g2 and loved them all and despised my brother's samsung galaxy s but after checking out the reviews and videos of sgs2 i got to admit its a better phone in terms of battery life and screen, the only downside is the touchwiz, hopefully we'll get cyanogenmod support but i strongly doubt it, anyway i can install LauncherPro and half of the problem is solved.
If not for anything else, I wouldn't return and wait because you have no idea when the SGS II is coming out on T-Mobile. Personally, I'm a big Samsung fan. When I had AT&T I had both Blackjacks, and the Captivate, so most likely I'll pick up the SGS II when it finally comes out for us, but it's silly to just return your G2x wait it out that long. While I'm not a huge fan of stock Android compared to TouchWiz, it does hold true that this phone (G2x) will most likely get the best support of the two for upgrades and what not. It really pissed me off that soon after I left AT&T, they finally released the Froyo upgrade...Samsung is terrible about making statements then going back on them. They said Froyo would come out in October, then December, then it finally came out like what a month or so ago? I don't know LG's history for updates or how quick T-Mobile gets stuff out as I just got on board with them a week ago, but based on what I've heard, you're far better off update and support wise with the G2x than the SGS II. Plus the G2x has the Tegra processor, which is just friggin' sweet! SGS II has Samsung's processor configuration, no Tegra to be found. GSMarena did a comparison of the 2 phones, and they both stood up to each other well, especially on the benchmarks. The only real advantage the SGS II had from what I read is the screen offers more vivid colors, but it's still the exact same resolution (800x480).
So it seems my thread questioning about anyone getting the Relay has turned in the the Dev thread for it since for some reason XDA doesnt want to make a thread dedicated to it. I personally ended up buying a Note 2 which is why I dont follow this thread anymore but I just recieved a PM saying the thread was moved so I figured I would change the title of the thread from "Any one planning on getting the Galaxy Relay 4G" to "Galaxy S Relay 4G Development Thread".
Definitely looking into a replacement for my G2, haven't really seen anything convincing thusfar. With a S4, this just might do it.

Thats what im thinking. I hope that the rumor of a 5mp camera is wrong and it ends up being an 8mp but even if it is a 5 as long as it has a good sensor and flash ill be happy. So far it seems it will basically be a Galaxy S3 with a 4" screen and a QWERTY minus 1GB ram which really doesnt matter. Ive never owned a samsung before but i guess they are really easy to root with a program from samsung called odin. Hopefully CM will be supporting it.
Either way, it could be the next best upgrade for Desire Z owners. Especially with so many discouraged people with HTC and their policy's. They can keep them, and their phones. No ICS update, not even for related phones where we could bum the driver over. Not to forget how locked down the phone is. Plus Samsung phones are more consistant.

Yeah Samsung seems to be the way to go these days. HTC locks their bootloaders, both HTC and LG dont provide updates, Sony phones are just not even close to the competition. Samsung provides the ODIN program so you can do what you please with what you paid for plus it seems they are providing pretty decent updates with the S2 and Note both year old devices getting Jelly been. Where my year old G2x is still on GB.
I definitely plan to replace my wife's G2 with the Relay. I've had a Vibrant and now the TMO GS2, I love working with Samsung phones, much easier.
Only if confirmed specs come out. Some new phones that aren't super popular are getting outdated specs like the new mytouch lines by huawei

Yeah those new mytouch phones phones had been rumored for awhile now and the specs of them were outed well before they even came out i mean really a single core phone? Where going to be seeing quad core phones in the states soon
The only tmo mytouch that wasnt terrible was the first one. I had the slide and it was ok but had a locked bootloader and the genuis button is so stupid, never would buy another mytouch. I was really hoping that those rumors of a G3 were true but hopefully this Relay will turn out to be a great phone.
Hot dang that looks promising! Although I do love my g2 it'd be nice to have decent specs

Or Touchwiz for that matter, at least that mistake of an interface can be fixed with another ROM. Just sayin.

The keyboard looks nice to me, who knows how it will feel since no one has tried it yet. I agree with the touch wiz but im hoping cm will support it.
What's the problem with Samsung keyboards?
HTC keyboards are the only ones I've liked. The spacing, depth of key press, and layout are the only ones that I've cared to use. Everything else I've tried feels like I'm using something cheaply made.

Either way I'm waiting for my T-Mobile contract to end. Once that happens, I'm going to give T-Mobile a decision to make. Either give me a new phone of my choosing, or I switch carriers. A lot of my friends do this, and they end up with a brand new phone, like Samsung Galaxy S3's, but they're out of contract and desperate to keep you in it.
Carriers tend to give new contracts better deals for phones then those who just got their upgrade. Also, there's a lot of other carriers who offer a lot more for less then the big US carriers.

Idk man id love to see a G3 as much as anyone else here but I dont see it happening especially with the stupid G4x thats going to be coming to tmobile. It wouldnt make sense for them to release a phone named G4x and then a phone named G3. G4x will be just as garbage as the G2x, it will have awesome hardware and a quad core but will have no software support from LG or NVidia.
Do you guys think it will work in sweden? Then someone needs to send me one. Htc can **** off now. To bad i dont like samsung build quality and feel. To plasticky
