I wanted to copy music from my sd card to my xbox, but couldn't find an option to do that. While looking around different settings, I found an option to "make this device xbox compatible" or something like that for my SD card, so I figured, ok, this will probably allow me to copy and stuff, so I did it. Now I can't access my SD Card at all!!! I looked under SD card menu in phone settings and it says "restricted access changed". How can I fix this?
Try to reverse this from your xbox if you can find the option

Your going to have to format the sd card.

Format it from your computer if you can. Might be able to save the data that way.
I did that with a USB thumb drive, I've never been able to access it from a PC again, no matter what I did

Same thing happened to me. My USB became a paperweight after that
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
I fixed it. I mounted it ti my PC through Recovery menu then manually deleted hidden xbox folder that was taking the entire sdcard space.
Regular formatting wasn't doing the trick.
FYI the xbox has an option to revert it back to a normal drive
I tried that option, it didn't fix anything.

I can't get the darn SD Card to come up on the computer. I went through the hardware installation stuff but it won't let me browse any files. I click on Removable Disk (E: ) and it says please insert a drive but my phone is already connected and mounted.
When I plug my phone in I don't get a prompt anywhere asking if I want to mount. In the settings it's on 'disk drive' and in the SD Card settings it says it's mounted, but it still won't let me access the files. When I plug it into the computer no dialog box comes up, but it does for every other phone I use. Any help?
odd... both of mine mount fine on ubuntu and mac
Never mind I figured it out!

How did you figure it out because, I do not get the option to mount in the notification bar and my computer won't recognize it. HELP
Well, I figured it out as well Good ole battery pull did the trick
You have to turn off USB debugging in settings before you plug it in.
Anyone figure out how to keep ringtones and other files out of the music app?

Phew, thanks for informing us. We were waiting with baited breath.
Now, after requesting help, could you please inform us what the solution is?
Hey guys, I posted this on androidforums but got no response. So I figured I would ask here, see if anyone can help.
I've been having a problem more and more with mounting my phone to my pc as a disk drive. I want to pull pics off and add things obviously. Increasingly, my phone just won't mount as a disk drive. I have to connect and disconnect it several times to get it to work. And now today, it won't mount no matter what I do.
~ Rebooted the phone
~ Make sure debugging is off (won't work either way)
~ Tried making it automatic and/or make it ask which connection
~ Used "Safely Remove Hardware" and it doesn't help
~ The pc sees the drive added but won't go any farther
~ My phone sees the card just fine and I can access it just fine (32gb)
~ If I take the card out and mount to the pc, it sees it just fine
~ The phone still charges while connected to the pc
~ Sideloading also still works just fine
~ Stock Inspire, no root or anything
So what the hell? Makes no sense... I've since downloaded "Wife File Explorer Pro" and it works like a champ. I can see all the contents and folders of the card and I can upload/download just fine. I'm fine using the Wifi Explorer but I don't like the fact that I can't use my cable. I'm not exchanging the phone so that's out. Any thoughts or ideas? Appreciate your time!
have you tried a different usb cable?

ah, ok. it 'kinda' sounds like it's in charge only mode instead of disk mode. do you have it set to ask each time or default to one of the settings?
select diskdrive on phone and I have debugging enabled, make sure to install htc sync, my computer will see the drive but cant access it till i actually select mount as disk drive and click done, then it is accessible, you can try a different usb port, and then try restoring phone if all else fails, your pics should still be on phone.
Sometimes I forget to select the "Done" button at the bottom of the screen to lock in my choice for the USB.
Yeah, I've tried all of this. I've set it to disk drive and automatic and it only charges. I've set it to ask me each time, and it does not. Typically when you plug it in, the usb icon shows up at the top but it no longer does this yet will still charge. Ask, don't ask, debugging on or off, it just doesn't work. When I plug it in, the pc shows the new connection as the H drive but says nothing is inserted. When I remove it, that "drive" disappears. I always make sure and hit done when I choose, nothing seems to work.
Oh well, it's no big deal really. That Wifi Explorer works really well so I can access everything from my browser through wifi. It works suprising well!

I'm using a SanDisk 32gb card, just a slow class 2. Did you mean you re-booted the phone without the card in it and then put it back in after boot up? Or removed it, shut down, re-inserted card and then powered back on?
I was planning on rooting my brother's Inspire yesterday, but when I connected it to the computer via USB the computer freezes.
The computer freezes once I connect it. It doesn't matter if it's on Charge Only or Disk Drive. I have another computer with Linux and when I connect it, it doesn't recognize it.
It's not the cable because I have an Inspire as well and when I connect it to either my Windows or Linux computer both of them recognize it with no problems.
I think it might be the SD card that's messed up. If that's the case should I format it and if so how do I backup all the files on it and what method do I use to format it.

Did you get the drivers for it? Download HTC sync for the driver.

Put sd card into card reader and just copy the whole thing into a file. You can decide what you want to pull back onto the card after you format it. Just format as fat 32. This problem does seem rather unusual though, especially since you have another inspire that works just fine. It may be time to warranty it if your not within your 30 days.
One thing I would do is download ace hack kit, put phone into debugging mode, plug phone into computer and run ace hack kit. If you get to the menu then the phone is recognizable. If ace hack kit says that it cannot recognize anything then the phone may be damaged.

Gizmoe has a good point, but i think you should try this also, just to see if the sd card is causing the problem...
make a backup of your sd card (copy entire contents to a folder on your computer, this is more of a just in case kind of thing, not entirely necessary though)
pull his sd card out of his phone, plug phone into computer and if it doesnt freeze, start the ace hack kit up to see if it recognizes the phone, like Gizmoe said though, make sure USB debugging is enabled.
to double check its actually the sdcard:
put his sd card into your phone and plug your phone into the computer and see what happens. if it freezes then the problem is in fact the sd card. i dont know HOW this would happen, but technology does craziness sometimes.
all you are doing here is troubleshooting and seeing if the problem follows the sd card.
I took out my brother's SD card and put it in my phone and it worked! Both computers recognized it, Windows didn't freeze and ace hack kit recognized it as well.
When I plugged my brother's phone into my Windows computer without the SD card though...it froze.
So apparently the phone is the problem. I backed up all the files from my SD card. What should I do now?
(And yes USB Debugging was on and I have the drivers)
the only thing i can think of is clean the usb port on the phone itself (have the battery out when you do this, just in case), try it on a 3rd computer if you can just to be sure.... then maybe a factory reset, if none of that works, i hope he has insurance on the phone so he can get a replacement....
What kind of stuff exactly would a factory reset erase? Would he be able to get his contacts back? Would his HTC Sense account still be there? Is there a way to backup the apps he has?

he can backup his contacts by going into the phonebook (people), hitting the menu button and selecting import/export, then export to sd card.
the htc sense account... i'm not sure about, i dont have one, probably never will. in my head, the account will always be available, he'll just have to sign in and possibly set it up again. but like i said, i dont have one, so i cant be sure.
as far as backing up the apps, he can download App Backup & Restore from the market, it doesn't appear to need root access. alternatively, the apps he has downloaded from the market are saved in his My Library (accessible from a browser, pretty sure the market app only shows what is currently on your phone). I havent found an app that can backup apps + data that didnt need root. the one i mentioned up there only does apps.
the factory reset will return it back to stock. i'd use the stock recovery (vol down + pwr) and reset it that way. this is just speculation, i have no idea if it will fix your problem. but i can almost guarantee that if he calls it in, they'll tell him to do a factory reset.
NOTE: BEFORE you go through with the factory reset, backup his sd card just in case the factory reset deletes the sd card to.
the steps i would follow:
backup contacts to sd card
download, install and run App Backup & Restore
remove the sd card, put it in a phone that doesnt freeze the computer and backup the contents
THEN i would do the factory reset. i'd try the one that is in the Settings menu first, if that didnt work, then i'd try the one in recovery. try it with the sd card out, if it doesnt work (unlikely) put the sd card back in.

If you're unsure about doing the factory reset yourself, i'd just call AT&T... that way if THEY tell you to do it and something crazy happens, it's gonna be on their heads.
and make sure you tell them that you have a second inspire that you can plug in and it works just fine that way they dont try to pin the problem on the computer.

Factory reset wipes data and cache partition and returns the system partition to default shipping state. Contacts will come back if a Google account is being used and allowing Google to backup data is checked. Application data will be erased for good. Applications themselves will redownload upon signing back into Google account on phone(maybe, sometimes it does not). Htc sense account will require you to sign back in. All downloaded htc content should have remained untouched on sd card, although I do not know if factory reset makes that stuff unrecognizable, it may have to be downloaded again so your system actually recognizes the content. Without root you can not back up applications. If you had root there are several programs to do this, titanium backup being the most popular.
I agree that you should clean the USB port on the phone in case there is anything shorting out a pin.
Just use a toothpick to get all the stuff out and gently rub the contacts. To me it does sound like the port is bad. I would just do a warranty return. Try the factory reset first though just to be sure.

I can verify sd card is left untouched during a reset unless you specifically choose to do so.
Also, in case both bikes post and mine sound confusing, you can back up apps just not application data. But backing up just apps is already supposed to be a Google account feature but it doesn't always work so some people use an app for that.

Maybe it's the PC
So does your Brother's HTC lock up on your PC (I didn't see that you had tested that). I know that some PC's can have damage to the USB port that can cause the laptop to freeze when anything is plugged in.

its his brothers phone that freezes the computer. his own personal inspire works and connects just fine. its his brothers inspire that is causing the problem
Just to make sure I tried my brother's phone again. Tried it on Windows XP, Vista, and Linux. Tried different USB ports and still nothing. XP freezes and Vista and Linux don't recognize it. Also tried cleaning the port and problem remains while my Inspire works.
He was able to plug it in the computer before so it's not an out of the box problem. So you guys think I should do a factory reset then?

I would try that and if no go, then warranty or insurance. Did he drop it or anything? Sometimes you hit these devices with enough pressure in just the right spot and you can damage stuff.

Hi guys.
Whats is the correct way to log on to a SD card?
When I put the SD card of my canon in the dock it fails to notice the card. I have to restart my TF. Then it sees the card. Is this normal?
After that, finding the files on the card seems to be a bit awkward as well.
thanks for your help!

If the card was not in the tf when you started it, you need to go to the menu and mount it after inserting it. You should also unmount it before removing it just to be safe. This can be done in the lower right task bar.

OK, But not sure what is cryptic about lower right task bar. There is only one and if you click on it one of the options is mount and unmount SD card.

You said use menu. Which menu? Under settings? In an app that is bleedingly obvious to everyone but newbies?
In fact, nobody uses the word menu for this particular task, so this in itself is cryptic. Please understand that I've been dealing with 1337s and 1337 wannabes ever since I got my first computer. I can sniff out one like a hounddog.

I've noticed this as well. I notice that if I have the card in, undock and redock it doesn't mount properly. I haven't played with it much, but I think if I eject the card and then undock it works better. Definitely a bug. Rebooting always resolves the issue.
This seems like an unlikely connection, but I have a Canon camera as well. Another annoyance as well is that the SD images don't show up in MediaStore (Gallery).

so I tried looking in the "menu" after installing the card. No luck. I have to rrestart the TF to make it show up. when i do, it shows up on the task bar.
Also always remember to check theres no boot flags on the sd and its formated correctly i once formatted to ext2 for a project forgot to switch back then wondered why my phone wouldnt read it lol

I use a 600D. It's advised to format the SD card in the cam to erase the images.
Not sure what kind of format that is. (low level?). I'll give it a try.
Mind you. the TF has problems detecting the cam (connected through USB) as well. I have to restart my TF to get working also.
So the other day I was transferring files between two phones via usb and a windows computer. My micro SD is a SanDisk 32gb. After completion of transferring files from my phone to the other phone, I safely ejected both phones and unplugged the usb cables. On my phone I began browsing through my pictures and within a matter of about 6-8 seconds I literally watched my pictures vanish before my eyes. Leaving only my pictures saved to my phones internal memory and an error message pops up "SD card unexpectedly removed" Odd right? Now the phone won't acknowledge that my micro SD is attached. Took it out and tried using it in a micro SD to full size SD adapter and then plugged into computer. No auto play. And when I select the drive slot for the SD it tells I need to format the disk. Tried quick and regular, both "Windows cannot format the disk" Tried using command prompt to format "Device not recognized...." I can't even format?! What do I do?

how long have you've been using the sd card? lot's of possiblities could happen maybe it's a faulty card - a possible virus infection. have you tried rebooting the pc and insert it again see if it will be detected. or from your device try to reinsert and reboot it.
based on my experience in most cases its a faulty one. i have 3 micro sd which i can't use now.

Recovery Of Missing Files
--------------------------
Your best searching the Internet for a file recovery program. Some may not be able to recover or locate the files that other software will be able to.
The SD Card Issue
------------------
Your best to download partition software, EASUS Partition Home is recommended for this. If you see your SD card simply right click it, and go to delete, and then new and then click 'Apply', and then 'ok'.
If you need any download links hit me up with a pm
hope this helps.
I've had the card for over 2.5 months. And I've added no new data, only transferred data off it(when it crashed) and moved files around. Well it's not my computer. Tried accessing the card on two others besides the one I was originally on. On the computer I last tried, it actually had a built in slot for Micro SD. It says no disk inserted Other Micro SD cards work fine with all computers. I just want to be able to format it so I can use it again but, I'm leaning towards that it might be fried. How it fried itself still doesn't make sense to me
