Can no longer mount phone to pc - HTC Inspire 4G

Hey guys, I posted this on androidforums but got no response. So I figured I would ask here, see if anyone can help.
I've been having a problem more and more with mounting my phone to my pc as a disk drive. I want to pull pics off and add things obviously. Increasingly, my phone just won't mount as a disk drive. I have to connect and disconnect it several times to get it to work. And now today, it won't mount no matter what I do.
~ Rebooted the phone
~ Make sure debugging is off (won't work either way)
~ Tried making it automatic and/or make it ask which connection
~ Used "Safely Remove Hardware" and it doesn't help
~ The pc sees the drive added but won't go any farther
~ My phone sees the card just fine and I can access it just fine (32gb)
~ If I take the card out and mount to the pc, it sees it just fine
~ The phone still charges while connected to the pc
~ Sideloading also still works just fine
~ Stock Inspire, no root or anything
So what the hell? Makes no sense... I've since downloaded "Wife File Explorer Pro" and it works like a champ. I can see all the contents and folders of the card and I can upload/download just fine. I'm fine using the Wifi Explorer but I don't like the fact that I can't use my cable. I'm not exchanging the phone so that's out. Any thoughts or ideas? Appreciate your time!

have you tried a different usb cable?

ah, ok. it 'kinda' sounds like it's in charge only mode instead of disk mode. do you have it set to ask each time or default to one of the settings?

select diskdrive on phone and I have debugging enabled, make sure to install htc sync, my computer will see the drive but cant access it till i actually select mount as disk drive and click done, then it is accessible, you can try a different usb port, and then try restoring phone if all else fails, your pics should still be on phone.

Sometimes I forget to select the "Done" button at the bottom of the screen to lock in my choice for the USB.

Yeah, I've tried all of this. I've set it to disk drive and automatic and it only charges. I've set it to ask me each time, and it does not. Typically when you plug it in, the usb icon shows up at the top but it no longer does this yet will still charge. Ask, don't ask, debugging on or off, it just doesn't work. When I plug it in, the pc shows the new connection as the H drive but says nothing is inserted. When I remove it, that "drive" disappears. I always make sure and hit done when I choose, nothing seems to work.
Oh well, it's no big deal really. That Wifi Explorer works really well so I can access everything from my browser through wifi. It works suprising well!

I had this problem earlier today I physically removed my memory.card and rebooted.the phone and that fixed it. But it scared me. I have a wintec 16 gb men card class 10. What are you using?

I'm using a SanDisk 32gb card, just a slow class 2. Did you mean you re-booted the phone without the card in it and then put it back in after boot up? Or removed it, shut down, re-inserted card and then powered back on?

See SD card while in Disk Drive mode?

I there any way to make a microsd card visible in the phone while connecting the phone in Disk card mode to a computer. Kinda like "Card Export II". But seems very simple to do like have the card switch to read-only mode on the phone when connected. Or if you can have read and right on both the phone and computer that would be amazing.
So does anyone see this possible?

im afraid that its not possible atm, since the computer is using the SD card as an extra HD to transfer files, and i had that come across all the time, i know its a pain especially if ure exporting pictures or wallpapers and try to see if itll fit or look nice on ur TP or FUZE but ya man it wont work, unless u can google it up and see if its possible, would be nice
The latest wm5torage does that. Only you need to run it and forget about the beautiful popup for selecting usb mode

How do you browse SD Card on computer?

I can't get the darn SD Card to come up on the computer. I went through the hardware installation stuff but it won't let me browse any files. I click on Removable Disk (E: ) and it says please insert a drive but my phone is already connected and mounted.
When I plug my phone in I don't get a prompt anywhere asking if I want to mount. In the settings it's on 'disk drive' and in the SD Card settings it says it's mounted, but it still won't let me access the files. When I plug it into the computer no dialog box comes up, but it does for every other phone I use. Any help?
odd... both of mine mount fine on ubuntu and mac
Never mind I figured it out!

How did you figure it out because, I do not get the option to mount in the notification bar and my computer won't recognize it. HELP
Well, I figured it out as well Good ole battery pull did the trick
You have to turn off USB debugging in settings before you plug it in.
Anyone figure out how to keep ringtones and other files out of the music app?

Sd Corruption in DesireZ

Hi,
just to advise:
i bought a microSDHC 8gb kingmax Class10,that i swapped with the supplied
one but after only 10 hours of my desire's use, i had a message "sd card appears as read only etc" so it's corrupted(not yet having time to format it on my laptop)
So i put my Sandisk 8gb class4 back, so far 24hours still functionnal
so perhaps a defective one
This has happened to me using my G2. I have gone through 3 SD cards and lost some very important data. It has gone as far as completely killing 2 of them and not being read by computers or data recovery machines designed to get the data back...

LOL yes I meant "before"
and yes, it is important to unmount any USB thumb drive or USB card reader before removing it from a Windows PC
I am not sure if this is related or not, but I found Windows trying to use the card to "accelerate windows performance" or something like that (its an option that pops up when any USB gets connected, I never enable it, but I found a windows-related file there and I just deleted it)

Can't access the SD card via usb.

At first it actually worked and I got a few apks loaded up, but now it absolutely won't cooperate and I have been wrestling with this all night. Getting various errors, basically the PC just won't recognize either the phone or the SD card. Can anyone help me out here?

don't move apps to the sdcard.
uninstall whatever apps you moved to sdcard, reboot, reinstall them and keep them in internal memory.
I didn't move any apps to my SD card. I installed them from it. They were apk files. Installed in internal memory.

Known issue. Mine will also just stop seeing the SD card randomly. I'll know it when the phone rings and the ringer is some default garbage instead of the ringer I had assigned from the SD card.
I've yet to see any actual working solution. Simply rebooting the phone will usually fix it for awhile. Will probably have to wait for a Moto update.
what class is the sdcard?
people have been having issues with class 10 cards (although i have not).
try backing up everything on the sdcard, go to settings > storage and format the sdcard using the phone. move your stuff back onto the card and see if the problem continues.

Been there done that. Mine is a class 4 Sandisk 16GB.
Make sure you don't have any apps on your SD card. When you plug in your USB cord in it unmounts the SD card. If you have any apps on the card that are running is when you run into the problems being described as the phone is trying to unmount the card but can't due to the apps running.
Card is the stock 2gb, don't know what class.
No apps running from the card. Tried rebooting the phone a few times, turning USB debugging on and off, using different connection modes... No dice.
Def keep USB debugging on. When you plug your phone in does the USB icon show up in the notification bar?
Yeah, it does. And it charges.
OK grab the USB icon and pull it down just like a notification. You should see either 3 or 4 options, charge only, windows media share, etc. Sounds like you have charge only picked. Choose the media or data one and hopefully that will get you squared away

If u pull the card you should see a number on it in a tiny circle, the number in that circle indicates what class the card is. I had this problem once, after I rooted. Did factory reset and its been all good since....this was 2 weeks ago.

I've tried all the USB connection options multiple times.
I had to uninstall moto drivers and then reinstall them on my pc. All was good after that.
Also done that multiple times.
For now I'm just using my ghetto rigged card reader - digital camera and micro sd-sd adapter. Hahahha.
Probably just going to have to wait for an update and some more moto support for this phone on the pc side. Speaking of updates, this phone's been out for a month. Getting to be about time we at least saw a few bug fixes.
I'm sure you did a battery pull. I just went through this with my device, and that fixed the issue...
Actually, I didn't.
It seems that if there are any apps installed on the sdcard, it can't be accessed via usb.
Mine actually just started doing this as well. It was working fine, and now I cannot get it to mount as a mass storage drive on several different computers. I had three apps installed on the card, all games. I uninstalled all of them and still no mass storage.
So I've been making sure no apps get installed on my sd, or even any app databases because sometimes an app will install internally, but put its database on the sd. So none of that! I enjoyed a few days of being able to use usb mass storage, then a couple days ago it became inaccessible again. I checked for apps that may have slipped something onto the sd but didn't find anything noteworthy.
I left the issue alone, praying for a fix materialize from the etherworld, when something interesting happened today. I unmounted the sd and installed a new app, and a notification came up saying the app could be moved to the sd; but the notification used a wierd sound to alert me, presumably because it couldn't find the default audio file on the unmounted sd. So I then wen't to settings/sounds...oops... android crashed and rebooted with the sd card mounted; and I have access to usb mass storage again. Prayer answered?

Can't mount SD-card

It was working uhh I dunno a few days ago, this morning it wouldn't mount. I initially thought it was a MIUI problem (1.11.1) I rebooted, nothing. I wasn't even getting the usb disk toggle in my status pull down. I checked the USB settings and "ask on connect" was on. So I rebooted into RA and tried USB-MS, still not coming up on my PC. On my phone I can go into Astro and see the SD and everything on it fine, I played some music and watched some videos, so I'm assuming there's nothing wrong with it. I'm also assuming there's nothing wrong with the usb cable because it's charging my phone.
I've exhausted ideas on how to fix this, any help would be lovely.

Try plugging your SD card into PC with an adapter. You may need to reformat your SD card. SD card corruption is a known issue with MIUI

But if the card was corrupt then wouldn't the phone be able to not access it directly either? I know when I ran my last Rom (Synergy) a few times when I plugged the cable in I'd get windows popup saying errors detected and it needed to be scanned. I don't have an adapter I guess I should to go and get one.
thanks for the reply.

Here is what I would do. Use dropbox to back up any files that the phone doesn't see as corrupted then reformat the SD card. Also remember that when you unplug from the PC that you have to "safely eject" it before unplugging. This is normally the cause.

Thanks for the feedback, it magically decided to pop up on it's own, I had it plugged in and charging and when I came back from lunch there it was. I scanned it and it seems a-okay. I'll remember the safely eject thing, I know about it I just tend to forget to do it, and by tend I mean always lol
