Miui ROM? - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

What does it take to get miui support on the sidekick 4g?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App

I think the biggest hurdle right now is compiling an AOSP kernel for this phone. Since all we've got to work with is Froyo for the time being, any MIUI port would be considerably dated.

Thanks. So basically we're waiting for a GB ota kernel source code update from Samsung. Then compile aosp. Then the roms like cm and miui can boot.

exactly or waiting for someone like krylon to get a leak for us!

To port MIUI, we need a 2.6.35.x kernel, which would require either a GB release/leak or Sammy to release the kernel source for 2.6.35 for our phone. I'm currently working on porting the 2.6.35 kernel to get CM7 working, but it's taking much longer than anticipated, given the amount of stuff that they added to our phone.

ICS port possible?

I know the news has been going about that official source has been released for ICS an course like a lot of other people are wondering what it can be ported over to. Now me i personally have no clue how to translate all the technobabble dealing with creating roms from source but I'm sure there people here that do understand it all what would it take to get ICS on our phones? Like i said i have no clue in reality what goes into rom creating with phone drivers an framework tweaking (i know our phone is "special") but just curious.
Nobody here can get gingerbread on it let alone ics. Don't hold your breathe for either one. Lol

dw9906 said it best. Its not impossible Im sure, But, it would be close to it.
Definitely not impossible. Just need the right people to work on it.

You can't go from froyo --> ICS , it'll be impossible you need to work with GB --> ICS if your doing a SDK port , if your doing a source then i don't know .

Well making a ICS port for the sidekick i'd hope it be using the source since then with source you could create a kernal aswell a the rom

ask anyone who has ported a SDK , your going to need to work with a AOSP base or perferably CM7 base w/ a CM7 kernel , you don't know what your talking about .

He is talking about source code not a SDK port.

It would take much time & work , let's get GB first .

well isn't the issue with GB that we DON"T have the source code for GB so you can't hand make a kernal for our device? While with ICS with the source out we could hand make the kernal and the roms so they work on out system if i'm understanding how to create a android rom an kernal correctly its easier to work from source then from SDKs or porting a rom from another.
The issue with porting GB is that we don't have a source designed for our phone. there's all sorts of GB sources released, but none that have been designed for our phone. That ICS source is the same source that CM is based on, it's AOSP (all open source project), but it still requires a newer kernel.

Its "Android Open Source Project" not "All Open Source Project", that's funny.

Once we get a GB port , I'll try to work on a ICS SDK port , I'm talking about the first day we get Gingerbread .

MIUI Source

There is now a MIUI open source!!!!
github.com/MiCode
I know this is great news! But what does that mean for us exactly?
Sent from my Rockin' Galaxy S 4G!
Is the hardest part of getting MIUI to work is getting our kernel go work with it?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Don't worry, we have devs working on kernel. Hypothetically, once the CM7 kernel works, MIUI shouldn't be a problem.
Whooooooooooooo!!!! Falls Out

Yep it's true, I posted about this a week ago....
I have been working with MiuiAnderson to figure out why the build process is not working for the sgs4g. I can build it for the i9000 with no problems...
You won't need a different kernel with this. It ports MIUI to your custom rom.
I will post another update when he gets back to me..
yeah... its been out for while i think... hopefully this will make it for a MIUI ROM on this phone too with official support and stuff
If there is anything I can do to help like test out Rome or something I will be glad to help I myself see me having this device for 2 years.

[Q] ICS rom

Ice Cream Sandwhich AOSP source code has been released since late last year, I am just curious as to why the Skyrocket doesnt have a working ICS custom rom as yet.
I am a noob, but I notice many other phones have alpha builds and/or beta builds while all we have( much credit to its developers) are themed roms that look like ICS
Why is this?
ICS source code does NOT equal Samsung Kernel Source code....
you must have all the proprietary bits and blobs in order for it to work....
Drivers for the device. There has been plenty-o-talk about the subject. Samy has to release the source ICS kernel with the ICS drivers.

I'm not understanding Tjisana's question given that people like seanzscreams' have produced the Sky ICS ROM.
Is that not what he's after?
That rom is ICS themed. It is ICS in appearance only. Still a great rom but doesn't bring the features and additions that a true ICS rom will bring
Sent via smoke signal
Ah - got it. Shows you what little I know. That explains why the version number is still 2.3.6 and not 4.0.
Thanks for the quick update.

[Q] cyanogen just released CyanogenMod 7.2 RC1

is anyone going to port this to our skyrocket? well i know we have a released for our phone but it has alot of problems will this release fix the problem?http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-7-2-0-rc1-is-upon-us
Simply put... nope
We don't even have a fully working kernel yet.
no. The day we get a decent enough cm7 kernel is the day MIUI and cm7 start to work

Repo-synching cm7 changes to an MTD CM7 based ROM

Hi
I have a question I'd be happy to get an answer to.
Erikmm sent me a MIUI port I translated and posted later on as HebMIUI.
Today I wanted to merge the cm7 front facing camera fix in.
I saw in team acid github the fix was made in camera lib and in kernel.
So i copied the relevant lib and boot.img (which as i understood includes the kernel) to the ROM zip and reflashed ROM. I think the camera is fixed but I'm getting FCs for systemui, settings and launcher and i had to restore my backup.
Can you please explain how i can sync these kind of changes to a CM7 based on ROM ?
Thanks!

Is it possible to compile MIUI from source?
Probably yes, but I haven't ever done it...plus i don't have it...
That's the problem with porting ROMs with smali, if you want to grab all the latest changes you're gonna have to use the newly built rom as base. This is why we were trying to get MIUI patchrom working. If we have the new zip it does the smali patching for you and you don't have to do nearly as much work since you can automate it.
I don't understand, on BML I used to flash a new kernel every second day. There is no way to flash only the kernel on MTD?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
The kernel changes had userspace changes to go with them (new builds of the libraries).
That wasn't going on with the BML kernels. People were just adding new features, not really changing anything that was already in the rom.
The only way of it working is if you build miui from source, or re-port it. There are 2 separate branches, android device and kernel. A fix in kernel also goes with another device. And device is built in the rom
