Android os after all is a linux based os. Open source. Samsung has a significant market share in the world of Android phones and tablets and will work to protect that share.

Given Samsungs previous support of Cyanogen this is probably good news. Since he announced that Cyanogen will remain a side project of his it means we won't see it by default on Samsung phones but it will mean that their phones will probably edge closer to something resembling Cyanogen and be great for those that never switch to community created roms.
With Google buying Motorola, Samsung knows they need to step up their game to compete against Googorola phones in the future, this will be part of that process.

No one could pay me enough to move back to Jersey.
I grew up there - never want to move back.

Speaking with my friend at Samsung he says they are super excited about the level of creatovity and out of the box thinking this will bring to the table. more end user stuff considered rather than plain point a to b successful operation

The past few days have been pretty exciting.
Whatever reasons are being announced, for Samsungs hiring of Mr. Cyanogen, intimidating Google has to be a big one. Especially being that it is only 11 months since Google tried to shut down Cyanogen (http://bit.ly/obp8sD).
Also, everyone is now talking about Amazon's killer Android tablet (http://bit.ly/mUS5O0). I think all rumors but Amazon's Kindle shows they can do tablets, Amazon doesn't have the "just for nerds" label that scares some Android and maybe even iPad users away, and if Amazon sells the tablet for $250, a $50 loss for each tablet they sell, Amazon will become one of the biggest Android players.
Google's purchase of Motorola Mobile has been classified by some as a patent battle but others (http://bit.ly/mUS5O0) think there is more to it.
And Apple and Nokia seem to be joining in the patent battle (http://bit.ly/n2q0Oe).
Leverage may just be your thoughts CD, but I think they're on target. Though I agree with your concept, I'm pretty certain I don't have a clue about the details. The big boys are playing hardball and all I can do is watch.

whats the future with android

do you all think that android gonna have good future with apple making more profits than android?
Apple will probably use the remaining 84bn in cash to buy google.
Android is the future.

Android is doing in the smartphone market what Microsoft did in the desktop market in the mid to late 90s. They offer a lower cost alternative where prices stay competition due to competition between OEMs. The fact that Apple is trying to sue Android OEMs like crazy shows that it is a threat to them.

Android will go the route of the Linux system. Used by true techies and not understood by the rest.
Maybe
I don't think so, it will used by all, and only understood by experts...
Well I should hope this is the case..After all you are not comparing Apples to Apples (pun intended).
Apple is a hardware company that sells hardware products and digital services, predominantly software and media, whereas Android itself is free. it costs nothing, so it cant make a profit.
If you look beyond the "gee whiz" numbers of their growth you will see that Apple leads in two markets, that of tablets and download content however market share in download content, smartphones and tablets is falling...So i suspect that the only folks really worried about the state of apple is apple themselves... their continued growth (at current rates) is frankly not sustainable.
Note: to compare Apple Vs apples (its full and complete competition) you would need to sum the numbers of the following business:
1. Microsoft & all PC manufacturers
2. All PC software sales
3. Android portion of all mobile manufacturers
4. All android tablet manufacturers
5. Google
6. Amazon market, and all Amazon download media
7. Napster and all other media download sites.
So, if you can be bothered to do that, you may see that Apple < competition.

Ok ....... let me ask you a few questions which should hopefully put things into the kind of perspective that would have avoided this thread altogether.
A: Is there a future in the airplane industry for Airbus since Boeing keep getting all the big contracts ??
B: Is there a future in the oil industry for Saudi Arabia since Russia produces more oil than they do ??
C: Is there a future in Gold mining for South Africa since China mines more gold than they do now (allegedly with some assistance from slave/indentured labour).
Z: Is there a future in the God business for the Catholic church since Islam is growing much faster and Muslims seem more devout. (For the humour challenged am joking)
etc, etc, etc ........ i assume you get the idea, its called competition and the world is full of it in every industry you care to mention and lots you wouldn't.
done now ???
In these 2 years - if I'm wrong correct me because I'm quite new in android OS - android has become quite popular and because of the open source it might be avocative for developers as in present as in future.
And that Apple would buy android I can not imagine.
Android has been outselling iOS for a while now.
But iOS is beating Android with way more freezing and crashing. So I guess iOS wins in one aspect, more crashes!
Android will win.
Long live open source.

While I think it's stupid, it's not the judges fault. Their job is to make the decision based on whether the patent was infringed or not, even if they think the patent was stupid (haven't heard from the judge so I can't say what their personal beliefs on the matter are) if it was infringed they have to rule in favor of Apple if they believe there to be infringement.
I do not know why everyone is riding the judge for her decision. It is her job to interpret the law and use other cases as guidelines. Apple is winning in the US, but mostly losing in the UK.
But, yes, Apple is losing marketshare to Android. The more mature thumb optimized touchscreen smartphones become, the more options OEMs must give consumers. That Apple one phone a year model will cease to work magic and they will find themselves in a position they do not want to be in - no more of that high margin, one device fits all once a year, planned obsolecense all wrapped around a marketing hype machine.
Well when your backs up against the wall, thats the time to become creative.
Apple is only taking a little chip with the voice search on ics but google will fix it for now until they get that idea (like pull down notifications, Genius!!) and make apple and its customers jealous. Steve Jobs (rest in peace, great man) is gone and apple is stuck re releasing the same crap just fixed up. Ex. The New Ipad, better screen, faster. and Iphone 4s, faster, with some dumb virtual assistant. Only people like Samuel L Jackson use Siri like the commercial shows but all of us get bored within hours. Apple is staring at a blank page and the essay is due tomorrow. There really isn't any must have, new technology(like front facing camera or dual core processors, and 3d screen) out right now that would get people buying them instead of android. Android stepped up, with play and jellybean and there is going to be much more to come. The Gnex will be back in a week, badder and better than ever.
If i was Google Ceo and some kid like Apple wants a fight, I get Jellybean on every new device and most popular old ones, then pull youtube off iphones. but then again im not the Ceo.
f*** apple.... seriously, just f*** apple....

Native turn by turn navigation (Apple will add it with iOS 6 for a few selected models)
Widgets
Ability to switch keyboards without SU
Ability to play Flash content in your smartphone
Sideload apps without SU
Deep Social Network integration with the OS (iOS just has Twitter and soon FB integration)
etc.
I could name a few more Android advantages over iOS but at the end of the day what matters is what suits your needs. Despite my love for Android OS and have been using it since the HTC Magic times i can say that my iPad in terms of productivity is way better then a Android tablet, but the same can't be said about iPhone vs my Nexus. I was hanging out with my friend (blind ***cough***cough*** hardcore apple ban) on google+ and got into discussion of apple vs android. His exact statement was "Its not about product, price, quality, features or something... Its all about when you are associated to something". Since then I am considering such people totally blind moron and itrolls I don't give a damn what their phone can do I just know my 2 yr old nexus can do much more than their six month old iph4s
Only ppl playing catch up to apple are the manufacturers. Android as an OS has a 54% market share. That 54% is split amongst HTC, Samsung, Motorola etc. While the iOS has a 34% share in the market but that whole 34% is represented by apple.
Manufacturers are behind when it comes to implementation of the OS and the hardware. While Google is ahead with features of their OS compared to iOS.
I think that's what ppl mean when they say Android is playing catch up because other than a few Android phones, none have gotten the recognition of the iPhone. To the majority of consumers, most android phones are "just another phone" ... its sumn I notice everyday when talking to my friends. They don't care about amoled or dual core vs quad core or which gpu is used or what version of android its running. To them its just Android vs iPhone.
Yesterday a friend of mine upgraded from an HTC incredible to a galaxy s3 and she hates it. Yes, she hates it. I know thats just one individuals opinion, but it goes yo show how ppl don't differentiate android phones. To her the incredible was a better fit and its "still android."
To me, it appears that Google is making more of a push to really put their Nexus brand out there. I hope it works but once they push enough units to where they can bring n enough Play Store revenue from nexus devices alone, I can see them making android closed source to create an exclusive ecosystem like apple has. Especially because they have an in house manufacturer in Motorola.
They're already slyly undercutting other Android phone manufacturers by playing to the appeal of having stock Android on the nexus devices and quicker updates.
That'll be bad news for companies enjoying so much success off of Android popularity, but I'm sure they already see this coming if I can.
Right now, Google is letting them stick around because of play store revenue from all the devices.
On another note, if Google is satisfied with the revenue they're bringing n, then I'm wrong, but it looks like they're already going down that path.
Until they do so, Android won't have a "true" iPhone competitor in the eyes of the consumer. Regardless of how many great phones come up a because the stigma of it being just another Android phone.
Just look at eBay. Great Android phones are selling for the same amount as iPhone 3g.... its ridiculous.

Android R.I.P. - The Grips of Jobs' Dead Hands

Android, and every other touchscreen OS, (besides iOS) you might as well say goodbye to...
Apple now has the power to destroy Android, Windows Phone, and any other iOS Touchscreen Competitor... Steve Jobs wins this round (for now anyways...)
How long before Apple has the S3 Pulled? This is the top iPhone competitor besides the DROID RAZR Series, with the S3 far ahead...
Check this out:

This could spell the end for Android and this phone, and I will not be a happy camper if I can't upgrade because of Apple... I will throw a major tantrum!

Comments, Thoughts, Last Wishes?
I am not saying this will happen, but is quite possible if the government doesn't block Apple in their tracks from doing so... (I think once Google Appeals, these parents will be made standard for touchscreens...)

If this ever happens i would rather go back to a flip phone or have none at all. I would never give apple any of my money.
I refuse to get an Apple device, but this won't effect available devices in stock or on eBay, so good Android devices will be very rare if this goes the way Apple wants... I'll tell you one thing, eBay prices for Android Devices will go sky high.... (used or not...)
Edit: I miss flip phones anyways, so I'll go old school if I have to...
i have an ipad, and this makes me want to smash it. Apple, you do not own the world, you were not the first to create a "list" on an electronic device. If your so afraid of Samsung, then just build a darn phone with a bigger screen, i wont buy it, but tons of other people would. Fair competition is good for business, it keeps ingenuity alive and keeps engineers pushing the limits of what can be done. Competition is THE ONLY REASON we have the superphones we have now. If apple owns all the rights to make anything that even resembles a smartphone, we will have the iphone 4s renamed and sold as a new product for the next decade.
Whoever the judge is that granted that patent, is an idiot.
it will never happen. Nothing to add.
Well some of what this says they currently have rights to like list view is bs because before the first iPhone was released I was able to use list view on Windows mobile for years. So unless I've miss read, something isn't right or maybe my aging memory is wrong.

Now that Jobs is dead, it's just a matter of time before Apple slips into irrelevance. Nobody there has the passion he had about his company, and nobody is gonna defend it like he did.
That 40 billion they have will be squandered away on bogus patent law suits. Money that could have been spent on more cutting edge development. Everybody knows that patents are crap. Your better off not even applying for a patent and get the thing to market first. By the time they figure out what you did, you come up with something new. A patent application is an invitation and a headstart for everybody else to steal your idea. The company thats ahead of the development curve, and gets it to market fast and furious, makes the money.
Boo hoo...they stole my idea:crying:
Apple is a joke. This is what happens when they feel threaten by a competitor. I will give it to Apple the iPhone was a brake through, but since then Android came out and is user friendly with developers willing to make the devices better and faster more customizable. Oh and just to add a good question shouldn't someone sue Apple for using someone else's technology like LCD, LED screens, let them have the right to the patents a lot it would do them with a device with no screen.

Samsung failed but you should be happy...

So samsung has really failed as a brand with this whole apple thing - and hopefully it will be overturned. but regadless, there is GOOD NEWS.
if you were planning on selling your skyrocket now is the time...
i sold my skyrocket a month ago, it took me 3 weeks to sell it at $275 which i though was very reasonable at the time. In that 3 weeks i got only 4 replies..
the AD however is still up and since FRIDAY i have gotten 12 emails for my skyrocket!
so if you are considering selling it in the very near future.. now might be the time =)
You fail.

You bring up a very good point.. That it doesn't matter if your product is 100x better then apple... If the world doesn't know it...

So if Apple won their unfair case, why would we sell our skyrocket ?
You're funny
Obviously, OP is a spy from Apple trying to convince us that Samsung sucks and to get us to abandon our beloved skyrockets so that we can move to Apple products.

Why would I get rid of this beast of a phone? So I could get Apples proprietary crap, with dated, over priced hardware, that up until now still doesn't support things like LTE? Screw the iPhone. My next phone is the galaxy note 2 (and still would keep this phone)

For those who buys Apple products, they buy the brand. They're not buying a product. Those who are SMART buyers, they won't buy products from Apple. A pity that people with technical knowledge is few. To me, I love my skyrocket. It's a real beast.
Who has said Samsung as a brand has failed? Sorry but no. Just because they lost a court case does not mean it is the end of Samsung. Ever hear of the word injunction? And the vast majority of people do not even know the history of apple as a corporation.
If you sold your skyrocket, why are you even trying to get us to make the same mistake?
Umm the only reason samsung lost is because apple is more of a brand. Samsung has never marketed the Galaxy product line here in America.. What two commercials In 4 years?
Samsung's galaxy line did fail as a brand and that's the only reason they lost in court..
Hopefully samsung learns about how important marketing is in all of this and starts branding better here in the states.
Hello most of the jurors didn't even have smart phones but still wanted to "make samsung pay" how f'ed up is that?
Marketing professors will be discussing this for years. How samsung lost a court case that should have never been tried because people didn't know their brand... But apple who didn't even come up with half the items they patented won because people trust the name..

Samsung lost because the only court that would hear their case was in northern CA. Northern CA is Apples *****. Don't get me wrong...apple makes good products for people that dont know enough tech stuff to stray into non-apple territory or for people that want to be a trendy douche. Whats really funny is if someone opens up an iphone and looks at a lot of the internal crap....guess who makes those parts??? Samsung! So Samsung lost to apple here in the states...big F'n deal. The rest of the world knows apple products are crap still.

Actually, it was worse than that. The case was tried in a San Francisco federal court, about 20 miles from Steve Jobs' home and 40 miles from Apple's headquarters.
And some jurors lived or worked a few miles from either of these.
I'm still trying to figure out why anyone calls this a failure on any level. Did Samsung copy some things? Yes. Did they copy everything? No. Did Apple win a case that gets them some money(as if they need it) and a POSSIBLE injunction on products that are currently outdated(by sales standards)? Sure. Does it matter in the long run? Not especially. Why? 1) Because they can afford the billion and change. 2) Their new and fast selling products are not on the injunction list and the ones on it have sold millions of units already. 3) All this does is set the tone for the inevitable licensing deal that will net BOTH companies money. 4) Where does Apple get 75% of the hardware required to build an iPhone? SAMSUNG. Did you really think they'd watch these machines built with their parts make billions and not get into the game? As we speak, Apple is trying everything they can to get off Samsung's titty but are having very limited success. And let's not even bring up Google. Actually, let's....... Google has filed suit against Apple and Apple is already cringing in the background. Licensing is already being established before trial, because why?..... THEY WILL LOSE! Do you know why? Because ANDROID IS OPEN SOURCE AND BASED OFF OF LINUX. WHICH IS BASED OFF OF UNIX. What is OSX based off of? YOU GUESSED IT, UNIX. The difference? Linux was designed to be shared. Apple changed it enough to call it their own and closed it off in order to be able to profit from it. Android is and (hopefully) will forever be OPEN SOURCE. SOOOoooo, does Apple have a snowballs chance in hell to win a case about copying their OS? Only in a 'you copied my icon design' kinda way. It's quite humorous actually.....
I have a simple question:
I have never had an iPhone but do have a Skyrocket CM9 so:
For the average user of both products why would the members here consider a Samsung device 'superior'. Is that proposed 'superiority' based solely on the fact that it runs on an open-source OS or is it the hardware or is it both? Would the average non-root user experience be any better on Skyrocket than iPhone?
I am genuinely curious.

Preference that's all it is.
Yes we have better hardware in most respects.
Software assuming both are stock is questionable based on personal preferences.
feeling the skyrocket xperiance

Having an iphone before the SR, I would say that an average user is better off with an iphone.
Technical users definitely should get an android.

I can only give you my opinion on that. I owned iPhones before Android devices, and the reason I find them superior is based on the open source aspect of the OS. I am all about customization of all my computer hardware. I like to upgrade memory, hard drives, and visual and productive features. Android is perfect for this; in fact the OS practically cries out for it. Apple does not make bad products; their equipment caters to a specific kind of user. If you want high-quality hardware where price is not an object and the hardware is ready to go out of the box, then Apple has good stuff to offer. If you want to upgrade their equipment or modify it, on the other hand, you are in for a hassle. Did you know that Apple tried to have the people who first 'jailbroke' iPhones locked up? Seriously, a judge had to tell them that once they sell their **** to somebody, that person can do whatever they want to it. Now, they have to be content with slamming you back to stock every time you update their firmware. Android vs. Apple is basically an apples/oranges kind of argument if it comes down the hardware itself. But, Android hardware offers not only the ability to upgrade and modify, but you can get in there and attempt to create personalized versions of current OS offerings. It is one of the things I am doing right now(see my sig). Apples equipment is top-notch in the quality area; I think even Apple haters would admit that much. But, they stifle creativity by the very nature of their heavy handed attitude towards the customization of their products. And as Forrest Gump would say, that's all ah have to say about thaht.....

Why is that? UI easier? Faster? Just curious why you feel that way?
