My brother bricked his BRAND NEW Fender mytouch3g.. apparently, he tried the Sapphire hack and it will start up and go to the HTC MAGIC screen.. but doesnt go anywhere else...
He tried to boot into recovery mode.. and its the same..
i would look for the sappimg and boot into hboot holding volume down and power at same time....place file root of sdcard
will that put it back to its normal state?? and where do i find the 'sappimg' ?

NOO. lol.. Dont send him there. Because if he already has no idea what hes doing then I have to listen to it.
Try to get into fastboot or recovery. If you dont know how to do this STOP MESSING WITH IT.
I cannot understand how people can buy things without any research for what they want to do with it.
If you didnt make a goldcard, then right there you didnt get anywhere on the phone. If you didnt use the FIXed spl rom I said to use on the goldcard you didnt make, then you really didnt get anywhere.
But if you see an HTC magic screen rather then the Fender mytouch screen I assume you got at least that far.
Hold volume down and power and ses if you get a white screen with 3 androids on bottom. From there we can fix it.
but you didnt read my thread on the fact that ONLY the stock everything wil
I Have the same problem!
Am I covered by guarantee if i will not solve the problem?
So i got my Desire S this week nd i LOVE it. It's my first android phone, so i wud like 2 root it. How can i check if it's S-On or S-OFF ?? I live in India if that makes any difference. Also, is rooting tougher than jailbreaking? Cuz i've jailbroken about 10 of my frndz iPods (and my own iPod 4) nd it's quite easy. Thanks

You basically perform most of the steps to perform a factory reset, but not the last...
1. Power Off Phone.
2. Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
3. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER
button.
4. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release
the VOLUME DOWN button.
Now the top line of the screen should....say something like....
SAGA PVT SHIP and either S-ON or S-OFF
To get out of this screen:
1. hit the Power button
2. then the VOLUME DOWN to select REBOOT
3. then hit the POWER button
Once you have a S-OFF phone then getting root should be easy.
thnx bro. Sadly, my phone is S-On Is there any way to root S-On Or change it to S-Off?? Also, wats XTC Clip?

I can see you intention was good, but unfortunately the rooting process varies slightly between devices, this comes down to the bootloader, android version, and HTC build version, each have different parts which can be exploited in order to create a loop hole in order to abuse.
The problem is, all it takes is one person to not read your post completely, follow that guide, then when something goes wrong they're coming back and posting "HULP FONE NO BOOT WUT DO NOW?!111" on the dev board.

Hahahaha.. Got your point.. I've seen such responses when I was reading posts related to s2 rooting.. Luckily for me rooting was a breeze.. I will try your suggestions once my friend gets the desire s.. So tell me.. Your ds was s-off or s-on? If on was there any particular thread that was the most helpful
Edit: ok... read the how to s-off guide.. man its painful
When I got my HTC Desire S I was lucky to have the Telstra pre-installed ROM, S-ON, no root etc. The bootloader was the first one .. (can't think of the version sorry), which at least made the process a breeze.
But literally I took the phone out of the box (brand new haha), turned it on, rooted it, installed recovery, and installed a custom ROM.
I did complete the process using a Live USB Ubuntu, I highly recommend doing it this way, as you won't experience any issues with drives etc. It does take away a lot of the hassle you see in a lot of the threads with phones not being recognised, and what-not.

Sure, not a problem. If your able to find out the Bootloader version, ROM version etc. it would help a lot as we can at least advise you as to what you need to do in order to complete a hassle free process ;-).
Bootloader - hold volume down button, then press power on (when the phone is switched off (make sure fast boot is disabled))
ROM version - Settings > About Phone > Software Information

Hello, guys.
Well, I love android and all, but I have had problems. Overheating problems for the most part, followed by freezes. I love my HTC HD2 too much for letting the problems occure or continue experimenting, since I'm new to the flashing-scene and
stuff.
I'm really looking into getting it back to stock. Can anyone please help? Obviously, I will need the HSPL to be original and everyting.
I have made 2 different ext. partitions I think on the SD card.
Can anyone please help? Any detailed help is HIGHLY appreciated.
BTW: My phone is LEO 512 MB, EUROPE VERSION, not T-mobile! Thanks!!
BUMP!!
Anyone? I'm really in need for this. I would like appreciate some help on this one, guys!
hey there,
to flash your hd2 back to stock windows 6.5 you need the original rom from the htc website. go in the UK version of the website, go to the bottom and select region as United Kingdom. Then click the help button. then select the hd2. go into new and downloads. download the rom upgrade for HD2. make sure you download the normal one, i mean NOT the one for o2 or T-Mobile or stuff like that. once you download the file, power down your fone. then turn it on with the volume down buttone and power button firmly pressed. dont let go until you see a red, green, blue and white screen. this is the bootloader. connect your hd2 to your computer via the usb cable. the "serial" word will change to "usb". all you need to do now is run the rom upgrade you downloaded earlier. run the file. folow the on-screen instructions and VOILA. u r back to stock hd2 with windows 6.5 Let me know how it goes and give me a thanks if u found this useful.
Post this in the dedicated HD2 forum, and you are bound to get more help.

Hey there. That setup or instruction was my first try. I thought this would not be any problem, but no, it ****ed up the whole phone and software. It was unable to boot or anything after that.
Gladly I renamed ruu.signed to img.signed or something and put it to root on SDcard, and it worked. First time it ****ed up, all though second try it worked (thank god, lol). Now I sent it back for repair, and I think they changed motherboard. Will get it back within a week. But thanks for your help anyways!
OH! well it always runned just fine for me. Anyways atleast youll get your fone repaired.

Hey again!
Yeah, I think it runs just fine for someone, but sometimes it could get a bit messy.
At least I know I was unlucky when I tried. I sent the phone for repair, and they changed the motherboard!
It runs quite smoothly now. Stabile when it starts heating and everything.
Not sure if I will sell it and buy one X or just give it android and run with it for some months/year
Thanks for trying to help anyways.
Hey,
thanx again for the thought. if u have the bugdet definatly go for the one x. . but a word of advice, dont use custom roms on that fone until u absolutely get tired of the default rom. Just a thought to stay safe.. Hope u get it.
Scared myself today, after reading all the posts today I took the plunge and did the s-off via htcdev, first thing I did was root with the HTC supertool, I then installed the ROM toolbox pro and ROM manager free, flashed the clockwork mod. And now I'm sure I've missed something, not sure what as I'm still a little giddy with the whole rooting thing. Question is what should I do now before I do anything to my other left arm and brick it, that would really upset me.

Welcome to the wonderful world of root! Back up your phone now!
Reboot the phone and ensure that you can enter clockwork mod directly from boot. Confirm you actually have root on your rom by checking the version of su in the superuser application preferences.
Make a full system backup, so you have a working restore point in case you ever do anything to your phone. After that, it is safe to start playing around with root apps (overclock, wifi tethering) and roms! If anything ever does break, restore to your latest backup.
I would definitely make a NAND backup, possibly a few, just in case. Idk if it applies to you but clockworkmod recovery has given trouble to Evo users (may just be the device). But a few backups guarantee that you have a reliable one to restore if needed. Good luck and enjoy the FULL power of your phone
This is the bit that has stumped me, getting into clockwork mod from recovery. I've got su v 3.0.6, it updated this morning. When I restart the phone with Vol down button I get usual boot screen, where do I go from there, also the little green light in top right hand side below camera is blinking lots, don't remember it doing that before root

Sorry but just had to, dare not do anything till I've got at least one backup

Alright from the sounds of it, you're still "S-ON" meaning safety/security on. You "unlocked" the bootloader via htcdev but it is still s-on. Try running this command in terminal emulator(can be downloaded from market).
$su
#reboot recovery
I would hope that would boot to recovery. If not, then the recovery must not have flashed right :/
Btw, holding volume down+power brings you to hboot.... at the top it says s-on but, unlocked correct? But wont let you boot to recovery? Odd... try above mentioned, if a no-good, are you familiar with adb?
Sorry, that's all I got until furthermore informed...

Thanks for the help, your correct about the hboot. Ran terminal emulator after command #reboot recovery I was told it wasn't permitted. I havE abd but not really used it apart from the unlock process even then it was only running in the background. Saying that I can follow instruction and learn quickly and if I get a grasp of what's supposed to happen can sometimes work round it. Linux is funny, takes me back to my spectrum and BBC days. I'm new to Android but it is one of the reasons I ordered a raspberry pi.

Sweet, glad you figured it out. I've been on rooted phones for a few years but all of mine have been s-off (s-on is a good starting point but limited). Good luck, and just make sure you research before plunging into it lol, and you should be alright... and always have a good backup. As for recoveries, Aman RA is the way to go in my opinion, but its your choice of course.
Good luck, and welcome to the world of root my friend, enjoy

Its an alternate recovery, may not be out for your phone, sorry. I agree, I hate sense too, completely.... like I said, just research and read directions, and you will more than likely avoid messing up your phone.
Found 4ext recovery. Only had one problem installing a Rom. Got stuck in a bootloop, upset a couple of mods on the development forum for asking in wrong section  finally got it sorted(didn't notice to clear dalvic cache) but, two days= two roms. Really like reaper it's really quick. Now need to master titanium backup and Rom toolbox (both pro) figured now I'd done I'd better invest in something decent.

Last question. I have read lots of threads explaining how to downgrade the hboot from 2.00. But none really explain the reasons why it should be done, I get that I will be able to flash new Roms direct from the sd card but is this the only reason or are there more technical needs in doing this

Hey there!
So I have an HTC Sensation with an oficial ICS update HTC Sense e.t.c as it should be.
12 Hours back I found out that it's possible to root, flash, use custom ROM ( with two words get rid of the HTC Sense which I really don't like )
So excited and thoughtful of what I am doing I just rushed into reading tons of posts and ways on how to do everything and after a few hours I thought I am ready to work!
Yes, but NO! I think I did most of the things correctly but at the end I just rushed through it and I think I messed up big time! I tried so many things to recover my system but I just can't do anything ( I only get to HTC logo, and then it's an infite loop of reboots )
So I rooted the devide, unlocked the HBOOT, downloaded everything that was mentioned but I didn't turn S-OFF
In my rush to complete my EPIC QUEST I just wiped data/cache e.t.c and tried to put on a custom ROM but I only got to the HTC logo and that's it!
Afterwards I read about "how to boot custom ROM with S-ON" so I tried to manipulate the boot.img ( somehow I don't really remember what I was suppose to do ) so after this operation I moved to the realm of "endless HTC logo loops" and that's where I am stuck for the past 3-4 hours.... :silly:
If someone can help me fix my phone I'd be very thankful! Please be kind on my noobness
Regards!
P.S. - don't ask me if I did a backup, because ofcourse I DID NOT! ( which I regret! ) will do for the future
