I actually see no point in putting it on my O3D. We'll get 2.3 soon enough and any mods etc can probably be added like the perfomance patch.
The only reason I put cyanogen on my old phone was because it only went upto 2.1.
I'm sure cyanogen will have a few things that people will want though

wtf... cyanogen has always been the best... speed, better kernel, much crap deleted, more battery

But will it support the 3D stuff?

For sure! If not, no one will take it
ANd of course: Cyanogen is always the best and the updates for newer android versions are coming faster/earlier...
Battery life, speed, more functions, no problems with root/updates and and and...
All the things that lg does wrong - Cyanogen will do it right... and there are many things (see wish list^^)
I cant wait for it

wooooo cyano the best

yes but it can make the phone unstable... I've got it on an old phone and randomly restarts, which is a known issue. you can delete the stuff yourself. it doesn't exactly improve the battery an epic amount now does it....
while it's a great rom, I don't see enough reasons to put it on my O3D.

Kinda excited for this now !!
much love for cyanogen <3

Vanilla Android and future proof. Check! I can get my Ice Cream Sandwich fix! (assuming Cyanogen will continue into Ice Cream Sandwich, which it surely will)

Fully agreed! That's the reason why we are all here!

Bet I had 7 Andriod phones so far ranging from Milestone, Galaxy S, Desire, Desire HD, Optimus X2, GS2 and now this and I can't say I have ever used one of his roms.

as far as i can tell from the experiments i've done with removing stuff from the system to see what works and what doesnt all the 3d stuff integrated into the stock rom comes from distinct apps that can be added and removed at will. beyond that it's just a case of integrating drivers for the screen that will be the part that needs work so i have no doubt that cyanogen will work like it does on every other phone on this one but with the added fun of having 3d capability.

Cyanogen
great and best info. The LX2 was so slow with stock rom and cyanogen made it work great
I hope so for the 3d too

Well as fast as you seem to be switching phones I can't really se how you even could have? the O2X is fairly new (what 5-6 months?) and CM7 is still under development for that one, the GS2 is what at a maximum 3 months old if you got it on the release day? Samsung btw sent a GS2 to Cyanogen in the hopes that he would get CM on it, CM isn't really a homebrew cut and paste ROM it's more like a off-shoot branch of Android and it takes time for them to make them work with new hardware.
And it's not "one of his ROMs" CM like MUMI and Android Stock is one ROM that works on different phones, there is a major difference
Edit:
Many home made cut and paste ROMs are how ever based on CM or Stock or a mix of both and just added and removed apps as they want it, so if you've used a custom ROM for a phone that CM supports it's more than likely that you have used CM only under a different name.

updates
Yes the news what were all hear for really, custom roms. Its shocking how slow LG is with the firmware side of thing., Their flagship phone firmware is like a year old Promises of updates is no good having them is.
wouldnt mind having sense based on evo 3g rom. got inpatient waiting on the evo 3d, next best thing is cfw based on it
Now i hear vodafone is dropping the evo 3d so i made a good call. Delays then patent infringements from apple leads to the customer missing out

It's quite simple i want 2.3.4 for Talk with video and features which can only be used on a Rooted Gingerbread rom. Although i won't use Gingerbread that long because there will be an other ROM which is calles Ice Cream as soon as Cyanogen can put his fingers on it ;-)
Really Love it So waiting for now

+ if cyanogen makes the rom, there will be many more roms following which are based on it, including miui rom. And some other developers will find the suitable ground to make cyanogen based additions to the phone.
Having cyanogen available is always beneficial

Ive had numerous android phones over the past few years and have developed for them also and can say that, personally cyanogen roms always screw up down the line and dont bother with them anymore as theyre all the same. i can tell you why they fail too, because of the way they are developed, rather than rewriting all the updated components, he will add to the component. which makes it perform half as well as a component written from scratch to the spec it is.
so for that reason....IM OUT

Building from scratch asks a lot of time Cyanogen is one off many who try and he's doing quite well for me. So have fun with you're stock device I will wait for Cyanogen to drop LG's software

Android 2.3

Does anyone know when android 2.3 update will be availible
lg said at least the end of december
I thought it was at the end of this month? but anyway what do i care LG are sending me a prepaid pack to send my Optimus 3D to them as it freaking keeps rebooting.
wat
:/
end of december?
2012 is aproaching, and they are to bored to make android 2.3 available for their premium mobile phone...
that's sad...
I thought we would see gingerbread on our LGs way before icecream sandwich appears on nexus prime...that means nexus prime will have new android OS right before we get 2.3 update xD
sad...too sad
Let me comment this that way: Nexus Prime - here I come.
LG sucks
Yeah seems LG have alot o catching up to do, when it comes to keeping their hardware with the latest software. Its not like gingerbread was out after the phone. Although be looking forward to the ice cream sandwidch update in 2014 cheers LG
We'll probably have CyanogenMod8 IceCream Sandwich before we see Gingerbread from LG...sigh.

So what?!
I do not realy care about ICS anyway! With my current state on the Optimus 3D I am pretty satisfied.
Who cares if its froyo, Giggybread or Peanut butter running the system.
In any way I do not like the new nexus phone its a google phone with samsung components.
I am looking forward to the next generation 3D phones. Till there is a better 3D phone out there I will be happy with the O3D .
I was really unsatisfied with the optimus 2X though.

Hahaha, good Joke! I think, the battery is the main reason why LGO3D users are waiting for GB...
Seriously... just because YOU don't care it doesn't mean that others are not allowed to care. Battery life and speed would be an improvement on gingerbread. Let others complain! They have all the right to do so. If you're happy with your froyo, you don't have to update!

All this GB "rumors" about better battery life is bogus.
When the Desire HD of a friend got his official OTA GB Update the phone had huge battery drains. And that was a huge issue with the OTA update from HTC for Gingerbread.
Would you rather have a rushed release? I want to support the people for bringing us a very nice device for reasonable money. I am a developer and I am pretty sure there are some pretty bright heads at LG that can make GB a good and stable release. Till then the functionality of the phone rocks pretty good.
Why all the fuzz then?
The thing is GB is talked about like it's new fangled Alchemy that nobody understands (I'll freely admit I couldn't Dev it but then th LG phone devs couldn't learn my job overnight either) but it's (GB) been out for Donkeys now. The 3D should have shipped with it and I for one thought the update would be showing a lot quicker. This sort of consumer awareness complacency is not exclusive to LG, I remember waiting for ages for the Desire GB update. Fortunately I got that a lot sooner due to the talented folks on this forum but thats by the by. The sad fact is we're all shovelfed a product that will do just enough to pass muster, after that the focus is shifted onto their next big hardware offering and IF we're lucky they'll give some work experience spod the task of working on an update that we all desperately deserve.
This is contemptible in my opinion, this phone came with a moderately high pricetag, I paid £430 and we've got software thats what? 2 years old? (don't quote me on that) We should be damanding ICS not sh!tty GB for crying out loud. A lot was made of the bleeding edge technology of the 3D, bloody well give us an OS that will show it to it's full potential. Perhaps if they weren't so insistant in putting all this bloatware crap into it (I know how to use the Market app if I need any of this tosh FFS) it might actually get done sooner? Ironically Smartworld/LGworld updates (that I couldn't give a monkeys about) come thick and fast, take some of the software devs from here and put them to work on the OS for crying out loud.
option to view 3d movie in single screen (2d) is really needed...but i dont think we need fw upgrade...maybe new vido player with that option built in..
well see ..
Video stabilization would be great! I really envy iPhone 4S users for their awesome video [email protected]!!
I'm agree that Gingerbread surely will not improve battery low performance. I read that one of the apps that run in the background that really drains the battery is the LG stock gallery. I have frozen the LG gallery app using Titanium Backup and I think battery lasts much more now. To watch pics I use Quikpic instead.

HTC say: We're reviewing Ice Cream Sandwich and determining our plans

HTC: We are excited about the latest update for Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and are currently reviewing its features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. Our goal for Android updates is to give every customer an improved user experience, which means balancing each phone's unique hardware, HTC Sense experience and the Android kernel. While our goal is to upgrade as many of our recent devices as possible, we are committed to maintaining every phone's performance and usability first. Please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans.

How can we have a AOSP when Google has not even announced if the are going to release the Source code for ICS yet. I mean AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project.
I for one really hope that Google does release the Source and does not treat ICS in the same manner they did Honeycomb. But I think they just did not want Honeycomb ported to phones is why they did not make it open Source. Maybe now that ICS has the features of Honeycomb in it Google will not hold back and not release the Source.
ALL Android OS are open source, they are ''obliged'' to release the sources in the 3 months after releasing it on any device.
HTC took the freedom to release their Desire source to the last week so N1 devs couldnt adapt it too soon, but in general as we saw with GB AOSP Google release the sources pretty quickly...specially when a new iphone is endangering sales

Yeah that is the exact the point I was trying to make. I am also fairly sure that Google will release the source code for ICS as it is meant for phones and tablets where as Honeycomb was just meant for tablets. But to further my point from my earlier post. Honeycomb source was never released and even the great king the HTC HD2 Leo only got on Honeycomb ROM and it still has a ton of bugs and is not a daily driver ROM. In fact I am not sure if the developer is even still working on the ROm as I have not went to the thread in a good while now. So you see a ROM dump from another device that is running the OS version you want from another device will work to make a port. But ports are mostly buggy at best when first released and also require loads of work by devs. But a AOSP ROM usually works way better and from what I know takes less work from devs to bring to a device.
Can't wait to see what the devs is gonna cook up with ics =)

Recently some internal informant had access to a Nexus tablet, and had decided to do a benchmark on it. We have received the result from the benchmark and they are naturally pretty well. The “Google Asus Nexus 7″‘s benchmark were also very informative on the hardware that the tablet includes.
Google’s $199 “Nexus tablet“, appeared online this week in Rightware’s Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji benchmark test. Most of the details revealed in the benchmark match up with what was previous reported. The device will be made by ASUS, feature a 7-inch display with 1280×768 resolution, and use NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor.
What’s new in this benchmark result is the Android version 4.1. Rightware tells us this is the only device they have ever seen to include Android 4.1. The device also featured a software build number JRN51B, which is important because J represents Jelly Bean.
The device also has the model name listed as “Nexus 7″, which could be the final product name.
Some of us had speculated that Jelly Bean would be a major release and become Android 5.0, but this new evidence suggest it will be more of a minor update and be labeled Android 4.1. We reached out to a second source who claims to have seen the Nexus tablet, and they also said it was running Android 4.1.
Details are still limited, but we are told that Android 4.1 will feature a user experience very similar to Amazon’s Kindle Fire. The device will feature multiple home screens that are dedicated to different types of content (music, movies, books, etc).
We are just a month away from Google IO, when this “Nexus tablet” is expected to be revealed, so look for more details to leak over the coming weeks.
Hopefully these benchmarks are from different tablet as I would like to have 9.7-10.1 inch tablet instead of 7-inch which is only a bit larger than Galaxy Nexus
i'll love to have this tablet.. the price fits perfect to my budget.. but i have to say that.. Android it's going way too fast.. i think ICS it's good.. (REALLE good) and if u pull out a new ver. so fast.. you won't let all of your users taste that great SO call it ICS.. If the SO sucks.. i understand.. but it's great.. relax android.. we are just having fun with ics..
Yeah, it's great idea but ...
Now in the GT-I9001 is already 4.0.3 without STABLE camera and we wait ... too long for it. Now ? 4.1 is new challenge for our developers ... and we need to wait another long time for it ...
The thing its not that we wait too long for the devs (not complaining at all) it's just that their going too fast.. that will bring problems to the devs of roms and apps.. not all the apps are ICS compatible.. if they start to doit too quickly will bring problems.. (personal thought)

This is wrong. Apps will be fine with the move to Jellybean. It is just the fact that ICS was such a major upgrade to merge the tablet and mobile OS. That is the reason some apps are weird. And now that you say that, I can't think of an app that is incompatible with my Gnex. Don't expect Jellybean to look different than ICS...people around here have some weird expectations. Google isn't going to completely revamp their software every year...
Of course i don't think google will come up with a major update.. there's not sense at all.. but what i mean is.. is it really necessary?.. in my opinion.. no.. just personal.. i prefer one major update.. than a lot of little updates.. we can be happy 'cause the devs are great.. but.. those who prefer to wait for oficial updates from their manufacturers?. If we (those who try a lot of third party roms) wait some time.. it's nothing compare with the waiting for those who prefer stock roms.. i just know that I want that tablet..

Can't agree with you.. the way all the numbers are put on the codenames.. or versions (call it the way you wan it) every one of those have their explanation.. it's not that simple.. Google won't call it Jelly Beam just because they don't want to keep updating ICS.. and they prefer to call it other way.. i know there are a LOT of ppl who can't know the difference from ver. to ver. I just gotta wait.. and see what Jelly Beam would be.. 'cause at the end of all.. if it's better we all gonna update aour devices.. if not.. we stay on ICS.. It doesn't matter that it was never coming for the Inspire specifically. Any ICS update for the Desire HD can be easily ported and help all Inspire owners. We should be angry about this, not only Desire HD owners.
It means no official ICS. There are already several unofficial AOSP ICS ROMs and a few Desire V ICS ports.
I wont ever own another HTC product. Promise ics to DHD and then say the customer quality is what they are concerned about. Yet the desire c is half our phone and is getting it >.<

I agree, I have owned a number of HTC products in the past and this is reinforcing my jumping ship to other manufacturers.

Guys let me let you in on a little secret. All OEM are the same when it comes to this. Mainly here in the states where the carriers control the updates. With the way hardware and Android are updating the best you can hope for is a 6 month period where the device may get an update. After that all bets are off. If updates are important to you then get a Nexus and be done with it. Its not like most dont run a AOSP based rom anyway so why pay all the extra for the OEM stuff. No need to be all upset about it.

There is nothing we can do about HTC cancelling the update to DHD except complain to HTC. If you want the best possibility of updates then a Google Nexus phone is the way to go (as already mentioned). Remember that it is probably not ICS specifically that created performance issues, but rather the combination of ICS and whatever version of a newer Sense (Rosie) HTC was planning. I have experienced that the phone handles AOSP ICS versions just fine, but Sense 3.0 and later versions paired with ICS would probably be a drag on this phone. Remember that when the Inspire came out, other manufacturers were already utilizing dual core technology so the phone was already behind the times upon release.
Right. Some of the custom ICS ROMs run very smoothly. It must be Sense that is the problem. Too bad, really. I intend to keep running with the Redemption ICS ROM on the Inspire until Google announces the next Nexus later this year and then I will jump ship. I was tempted, especially with JB, to buy a GSM GN but given that by October or November we might have some new Nexus hardware announced, I just need to be patient.

I have noticed that GB and Sense 3.0 and 3.5 custom ROMs have the occasional lag. I can only imagine what ICS combined with 3.5 (or even 4.0) would do to the usability. I have tried a couple of AOSP based ICS roms and they work well (except for the bugs such as camera issues). I have had better experiences in regards to performance with CM 7 ROMs than I ever did with the rooted stock rom (with bloatware removed of course). I will be buying a new Nexus myself once a newer version is released. I will use my contract renewal to get my wife a new phone every year (keeps her quiet about cheap gifts at Christmas and birthdays which are less than a month apart) and I get a phone which I know will receive support for a long time.

Relax guys. I've realized that even if they don't want us to have it, we will get it as soon as the Desire S or Incredible S gets kernel source for ICS. After that, porting a full Sense 4 or 3.6 ROM is a walk in the park.

Even then, team virtuous has nearly finished porting a completely working HTC 3.0 kernel. Sense doesn't work on our phones because we don't have the right kernel running under it. Virtuous and Pacha have 2 ROMs that are almost completely working. Camera doesn't work on some phones that have hardware from omnivision (me unfortunately :crying, but if you have Samsung hardware then you're in luck. Some of the other sense 4/2.6 ROMS also work without a hitch if you flash the 3.0 kernel, and a few patches.

Should I trade my Optimus 3D for a Motorola Atrix?

The title says it all.
Should I make this trade? I was thinking about use Atrix webtop + his docks, but I already have an iPad 3 which makes kind dull have Atrix docks, cause I can perform everything better on the iPad.
So I was thinking, should I trade my LG O3D for the Atrix? Or wait and see if O3D gets ICS and so on...?
Im confused, becase O3D have the 3D features (ofc), radio FM (which I like it so much) and dual channel RAM that I though it a bit faster than Atrix.
On the other hand Atrix has their custom roms on JB already, good docks (which I dont know if im gonna buy it, its so expensive in my country) and more internal memory.
What you guys think?
Think about this 1st are you trading phones just to have JB? Or just because you're actually just tired of LG?

Im kind tired yes...
I don't wanna stuck forever on 2.3, because before my O3D, I was with a Moto Milestone 1 and it already have 2.3.
So Im really temped to try something new, but there so many questions on my mind, if it really worth trading.

well if i was in your situation i'd do my research (carefully) on the particular phone i want to trade my o3d for.... like read through the motorola atrix forum on here... read what others are saying by that phone, ask questions (if the question you have isn't posted) read to see how difficult it would be to root, upgrade etc. that way you'll know if that's truly the phone you want to trade to.
Hope this helps :good:
The Atrix is rather laggy even on custom roms. I had my friend's for a while, it heated up very quickly when using the Webtop and it was quite slow then. Besides, it won't be getting official ICS either.
Let me put it like this

My friend has a lot of problems with his Atrix.
Automatic reboots, ****ty signal, calls end randomly, stuff like that.
He sent it to Motorola 3 times already, and when they sent it back it never really got better.
And besides that, it won't get official ICS either.

I was going to buy the Atrix, but I chose the O3D over it because of the screen, although Atrix's is qhd, it's pentile. The colors are greyish, and O3D's is IPS, much brighter and colorful. But Atrix's battery life is way longer, while O3D's isn't even decent, But still, I still choose O3D over Atrix.
Im going to keep my optimus anyway, I only uses it for basic tasks, our phone is dual 512mb RAM ou dual 256ram?

Just a quick word: I will keep my P920 as this is a really fantastic community. Although we don't have ICS yet, we have great developers. We have true DualBoot (and I'm sure there will be a nice interface soon), we have OC-Kernel, our developers are trying to port a leaked ICS... And lots of more. Thanks to all...

Helpful tread.. i had a same dilemma and decide to stick with O3D.. only + for Atrix is the battery and nothin else i believe..
ps. this is my first post on xda...
Well, it all depends on your needs, I think.
I just exchanged a Motorola Milestone 1 for a O3D Max. The feature I want the most is the 3D Camera, to take pics and make movies, and all I wanted was a little more RAM (now I have 1GB, that's fine for me). Ofc I miss the amazing Google apps availabe for ICS and JB, but that doesn't count that much when I think that probably a year from now there will be a new GApps pack incompatible with ICS and JB, and I would get in the same situation I was. That's not what I want. The 3D features will remain the same for more years than the GApps, I think. So it weighted more for me.
If you don't use and don't care with 3D, go for another phone, not Atrix. It is a little old already, Motorola already dropped it's support for the webtop and lapdock and no official ICS or JB. So I'd suggest you get another phone, maybe a Sony from it's newest, that are beautifully designed, decent specs and probably will get more updates.
That's only my humble opinion, ofc. Good luck on your trade.
