Recently some internal informant had access to a Nexus tablet, and had decided to do a benchmark on it. We have received the result from the benchmark and they are naturally pretty well. The “Google Asus Nexus 7″‘s benchmark were also very informative on the hardware that the tablet includes.
Google’s $199 “Nexus tablet“, appeared online this week in Rightware’s Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji benchmark test. Most of the details revealed in the benchmark match up with what was previous reported. The device will be made by ASUS, feature a 7-inch display with 1280×768 resolution, and use NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor.
What’s new in this benchmark result is the Android version 4.1. Rightware tells us this is the only device they have ever seen to include Android 4.1. The device also featured a software build number JRN51B, which is important because J represents Jelly Bean.
The device also has the model name listed as “Nexus 7″, which could be the final product name.
Some of us had speculated that Jelly Bean would be a major release and become Android 5.0, but this new evidence suggest it will be more of a minor update and be labeled Android 4.1. We reached out to a second source who claims to have seen the Nexus tablet, and they also said it was running Android 4.1.
Details are still limited, but we are told that Android 4.1 will feature a user experience very similar to Amazon’s Kindle Fire. The device will feature multiple home screens that are dedicated to different types of content (music, movies, books, etc).
We are just a month away from Google IO, when this “Nexus tablet” is expected to be revealed, so look for more details to leak over the coming weeks.

Hopefully these benchmarks are from different tablet as I would like to have 9.7-10.1 inch tablet instead of 7-inch which is only a bit larger than Galaxy Nexus

i'll love to have this tablet.. the price fits perfect to my budget.. but i have to say that.. Android it's going way too fast.. i think ICS it's good.. (REALLE good) and if u pull out a new ver. so fast.. you won't let all of your users taste that great SO call it ICS.. If the SO sucks.. i understand.. but it's great.. relax android.. we are just having fun with ics..

Yeah, it's great idea but ...
Now in the GT-I9001 is already 4.0.3 without STABLE camera and we wait ... too long for it. Now ? 4.1 is new challenge for our developers ... and we need to wait another long time for it ...

The thing its not that we wait too long for the devs (not complaining at all) it's just that their going too fast.. that will bring problems to the devs of roms and apps.. not all the apps are ICS compatible.. if they start to doit too quickly will bring problems.. (personal thought)

Thank god the tablet isn't 16:9. I'm really looking forward to it.
Edit: I spoke way too fast. It is 16:9, with a little added height for the nav bar. Unfortunate really.

This is wrong. Apps will be fine with the move to Jellybean. It is just the fact that ICS was such a major upgrade to merge the tablet and mobile OS. That is the reason some apps are weird. And now that you say that, I can't think of an app that is incompatible with my Gnex. Don't expect Jellybean to look different than ICS...people around here have some weird expectations. Google isn't going to completely revamp their software every year...

Of course i don't think google will come up with a major update.. there's not sense at all.. but what i mean is.. is it really necessary?.. in my opinion.. no.. just personal.. i prefer one major update.. than a lot of little updates.. we can be happy 'cause the devs are great.. but.. those who prefer to wait for oficial updates from their manufacturers?. If we (those who try a lot of third party roms) wait some time.. it's nothing compare with the waiting for those who prefer stock roms.. i just know that I want that tablet..

Listen. Ice Cream Sandwich has been on 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.3 and 4.0.4. All Jellybean means is they decide to call it 4.1 instead of say....4.0.8. Most users can't tell what software they are on anyway. My wife's Sensation just got ICS 2 weeks ago in an OTA. She can't tell the difference.

Can't agree with you.. the way all the numbers are put on the codenames.. or versions (call it the way you wan it) every one of those have their explanation.. it's not that simple.. Google won't call it Jelly Beam just because they don't want to keep updating ICS.. and they prefer to call it other way.. i know there are a LOT of ppl who can't know the difference from ver. to ver. I just gotta wait.. and see what Jelly Beam would be.. 'cause at the end of all.. if it's better we all gonna update aour devices.. if not.. we stay on ICS.. (sorry if i have some gramatical or otographic errors, my native lenguage it's Spanish.. and i learn english by myself)..

All I hope is that Asus also releases their MeMO 370T separately. I'm willing to pay an extra $50 or so for a bit better display or something along those lines.

Definitely buying it

How can we have a AOSP when Google has not even announced if the are going to release the Source code for ICS yet. I mean AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project.
I for one really hope that Google does release the Source and does not treat ICS in the same manner they did Honeycomb. But I think they just did not want Honeycomb ported to phones is why they did not make it open Source. Maybe now that ICS has the features of Honeycomb in it Google will not hold back and not release the Source.
ALL Android OS are open source, they are ''obliged'' to release the sources in the 3 months after releasing it on any device.
HTC took the freedom to release their Desire source to the last week so N1 devs couldnt adapt it too soon, but in general as we saw with GB AOSP Google release the sources pretty quickly...specially when a new iphone is endangering sales

Yeah that is the exact the point I was trying to make. I am also fairly sure that Google will release the source code for ICS as it is meant for phones and tablets where as Honeycomb was just meant for tablets. But to further my point from my earlier post. Honeycomb source was never released and even the great king the HTC HD2 Leo only got on Honeycomb ROM and it still has a ton of bugs and is not a daily driver ROM. In fact I am not sure if the developer is even still working on the ROm as I have not went to the thread in a good while now. So you see a ROM dump from another device that is running the OS version you want from another device will work to make a port. But ports are mostly buggy at best when first released and also require loads of work by devs. But a AOSP ROM usually works way better and from what I know takes less work from devs to bring to a device.
Can't wait to see what the devs is gonna cook up with ics =)
i think htc should push ICS to sensation and others but without Sense then if htc finish the work in htc Sense 4.0 push new update to sensation and others

IIRC samsung annouced those following models to be updated to ICS (in the 2nd trimester of 2012 hahaha ):
Galaxy S2
Galaxy Note
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 8.9
Galaxy Tab 7.7
Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
For others... we don't know ! Sounds this pact with google that is "you must update your models 18 months after their releases" is ****.
2nd Trimester? Probably saving that release to see if the world exists after 2012 LOL.

1. The author is fan of Apple.
2. The author didn't say that all updates for old versions of iphone work very bad on them. Also even for Iphone4 didn't get Siri!!! But it's just marketing. And so on.
Also yes this is the one problem for any producer: they don't want update old phones they want to sell new one. And Samsung one of them. Also because of this they didn't create drivers for original Android, but create useless ROMs and it's hard to support a lot of different ROMs and port to them drivers and their bloatware
the rumor that all GTI9XXX devices will get updates came from a rumor site only and not from an official samsung statement
doesnt mean we won't get it and neither that we will get it for that matter
however, our I9003 is not one of samsungs flagships or even very popular outside of asia/pacific areas
i read somewhere that samsung came up with our "inferior" device to be able to save up recources for amoled screens for the S2 and thats why we got an LCD
So in all honesty i really doubt we will get ICS
On a good note though, now that the Galaxy Nexus is coming, the S2 should be getting a bit cheaper and this device WILL get ICS
And a last sidenote... I wish the new Nexus would come with an sd card slot but then again, you can't have everything
if not offical i bet someone will port ICS for our device just like it got ported to galaxy s
Ported roms aint as good as official ones

According to a report by DigiTimes, there is a chance that Google will release the next version version of Android OS, the Android 4.0 Jelly Bean just a few months later in the second quarter of 2012! You need to swallow this story with a huge grain of salt as this is still just a speculation. As Android 4.0 has fallen short of the expectations, Google might make the situation up with the release of Jelly Bean. Like ICS, Jelly Bean will also be optimized for Tablets and Netbooks. It could be a strategic play by Google just before the Windows 8 launch in Q2-Q3,2012.
What is interesting about Android 5.0 is, that it’ll possibly include the Google Chrome system. With the help of that, you might be able to run Jelly Ban side-by-side Windows 8 on your tablet. To change the OS, you don’t even have to restart the tablet. OEM-s would have the option of installing only Android 5.0 in a device, or installing it in a device which already has Windows 8 installed. Now, this is kind of… umm… hard to believe! and that’s why the we warned you before…
The moral-of-the-story in this case, is that Google will focus on mainly Netbook and Tablet markets with the release of Android 5.0 Jelly Bean.
But, nothing is impossible. More-likely because of the Google back-end support. What not to expect from the guys who created the world’s most popular website!

That seems a bit soon considering ICS is what, 4 months? There's another thread talking about how no phone has been updated yet. Granted, second financial quarter is like middle of the summer or something, but yeesh.
I'm also kind of curious how "Android 4.0 has fallen short of the expectations" when it is the first version to beat the competing iOS in more than half of the reviews.
This is interesting! early aspirations on the next generation Android Operating System are amazing.
As the expectations on adopting Android 4.0 has short fallen, the search giant is ready to launch Android 5.0 Jelly Bean in Q2, 2012. Also, Microsoft is ready to launch Windows 8 in the third quarter 2012. However, there is no such official comment made by Google on the performance of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Based on DigiTimes report, Google is pushing Android 5.0 and Windows 8 hybrids to its manufacturing partners to offer the best of both platforms. So the OEMs might consider the option of offering both the platforms on notebooks, netbooks and tablets.

What major problems does ICS have???
That article discusses 5.0 being bases on tablets so fixing ICS "problems" is not likely anyway if thats the case and there are problems which I dont see there being to begin with anyway.
I just can't see Google making this business decision in anyway. It makes 0 sense. ICS was praised as the final unification of Android OS tablet/smartphone and going to end the fragmentation issues Google/Android has always been ridiculed of having. It makes no sense to introduce another OS so soon, esp one geared to tablets at that, as it would increase fragmentation 10 fold.

The article seems to be nothing more than a steaming pile of randomized speculatory ****.
It just doesn't make sense - there is no evidence that Android 4.0 is falling short of any expectations, with the exception of the Galaxy Nexus launch being an epic clusterfuck in North America - but ICS is not to blame for that, Verizon is.
As to device upgrades rolling out - it's taking only a little longer for 4.0 to roll out to non-Nexus devices than Gingerbread, which makes sense since 4.0 is a more significant architectural change from 2.3 than 2.3 was from 2.2.
Reading other problems - The issues some have had with updates have nothing to do with ICS and everything to do with some vendors jumping the gun and releasing too soon. Plenty of initial Gingerbread upgrades (and even much later ones!) were epic disasters too - does that mean that Gingerbread has fundamental problems? Nope. The idiots writing these articles seem to have completely forgotten that the Gingerbread rollout was almost the same deal as ICS.
Now if we could have ICS running properly on our devices first...

It doesn't matter that it was never coming for the Inspire specifically. Any ICS update for the Desire HD can be easily ported and help all Inspire owners. We should be angry about this, not only Desire HD owners.
It means no official ICS. There are already several unofficial AOSP ICS ROMs and a few Desire V ICS ports.
I wont ever own another HTC product. Promise ics to DHD and then say the customer quality is what they are concerned about. Yet the desire c is half our phone and is getting it >.<

Guys let me let you in on a little secret. All OEM are the same when it comes to this. Mainly here in the states where the carriers control the updates. With the way hardware and Android are updating the best you can hope for is a 6 month period where the device may get an update. After that all bets are off. If updates are important to you then get a Nexus and be done with it. Its not like most dont run a AOSP based rom anyway so why pay all the extra for the OEM stuff. No need to be all upset about it.

[bye] HTC. Hello Galaxy Note 2.
Sent from my Epic Touch(GSII)
It is what it is
There is nothing we can do about HTC cancelling the update to DHD except complain to HTC. If you want the best possibility of updates then a Google Nexus phone is the way to go (as already mentioned). Remember that it is probably not ICS specifically that created performance issues, but rather the combination of ICS and whatever version of a newer Sense (Rosie) HTC was planning. I have experienced that the phone handles AOSP ICS versions just fine, but Sense 3.0 and later versions paired with ICS would probably be a drag on this phone. Remember that when the Inspire came out, other manufacturers were already utilizing dual core technology so the phone was already behind the times upon release.
Right. Some of the custom ICS ROMs run very smoothly. It must be Sense that is the problem. Too bad, really. I intend to keep running with the Redemption ICS ROM on the Inspire until Google announces the next Nexus later this year and then I will jump ship. I was tempted, especially with JB, to buy a GSM GN but given that by October or November we might have some new Nexus hardware announced, I just need to be patient.

I have noticed that GB and Sense 3.0 and 3.5 custom ROMs have the occasional lag. I can only imagine what ICS combined with 3.5 (or even 4.0) would do to the usability. I have tried a couple of AOSP based ICS roms and they work well (except for the bugs such as camera issues). I have had better experiences in regards to performance with CM 7 ROMs than I ever did with the rooted stock rom (with bloatware removed of course). I will be buying a new Nexus myself once a newer version is released. I will use my contract renewal to get my wife a new phone every year (keeps her quiet about cheap gifts at Christmas and birthdays which are less than a month apart) and I get a phone which I know will receive support for a long time.

Was a huge HTC fan before I saw this.
Dare I say cough cough... iPhone 5 for my next phone? naaa
But the Samsung Galaxy III sounds like a good choice.

Relax guys. I've realized that even if they don't want us to have it, we will get it as soon as the Desire S or Incredible S gets kernel source for ICS. After that, porting a full Sense 4 or 3.6 ROM is a walk in the park.

Even then, team virtuous has nearly finished porting a completely working HTC 3.0 kernel. Sense doesn't work on our phones because we don't have the right kernel running under it. Virtuous and Pacha have 2 ROMs that are almost completely working. Camera doesn't work on some phones that have hardware from omnivision (me unfortunately :crying, but if you have Samsung hardware then you're in luck. Some of the other sense 4/2.6 ROMS also work without a hitch if you flash the 3.0 kernel, and a few patches.

viewsonic g tablet

for those of you who still have a g tablet don't kid yourself you may wait for isc or something to come along that will give you a great experience but for those of you who no longer want to wait for that let me give you some advice

I like frankentab
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/23486-rommod-12-frankentab-v112-g-tabletzpad-t2/
I have gone to the DRH ics, but before I was also all Frankentab. This rom is still the only ROM that would download, install, and play NBA JAM for me. It also did H/W accel and video chat, good battery life. But, i am not gonna deny VEGANtab their respect.
This is the end of the useful information, now Im gonna rant!! When my tablet breaks, I am switching brands.
Viewsonic can KISS MY A**. Since this device came out, there has been ginger, honey, and ice cream, and these A-HOLES havent even supported one of these upgrades. Imagine what Apple's reputation would be if you had to buy a new device everytime there was an upgrade to their software, Same goes for MIcrosoft. But, I dont expect viewsonic's market share to ever increase either. My brother got his ASUS pad a month after me, thirty dollars more, has an extra camera, same Tegra 2, but hes rockin factory ICS! before that he was rockin factory honeycomb. Lucky bastard will prolly be rocking factory jelly bean soon. You havent even seen anyone mention jelly bean in the viewsonic forums.

GIVE ME IT NOW Haha but I'd be willing to test, I was one of the originals to test since the unannounced pre-pre alphas when your team was still working on honeycomb Honeycomb w/ HW accel was really nice

They're not updating an ancient, obscure, recalled, and discontinued tablet that no longer makes them any money?! You don't say! You have some crazy expectations man, just be grateful homebrew communities exist.
Isn't this the one developed by teamdrh.
They are the only one's able to develop ICS and Jelly Bean for the Gtab from the ground up.
Currently its slow and most RAM heavy programs will crash.
