Android 2.3 - LG Optimus 3D

Does anyone know when android 2.3 update will be availible

lg said at least the end of december

I thought it was at the end of this month? but anyway what do i care LG are sending me a prepaid pack to send my Optimus 3D to them as it freaking keeps rebooting.

wat
:/
end of december?
2012 is aproaching, and they are to bored to make android 2.3 available for their premium mobile phone...
that's sad...
I thought we would see gingerbread on our LGs way before icecream sandwich appears on nexus prime...that means nexus prime will have new android OS right before we get 2.3 update xD
sad...too sad

Let me comment this that way: Nexus Prime - here I come.

LG sucks
Yeah seems LG have alot o catching up to do, when it comes to keeping their hardware with the latest software. Its not like gingerbread was out after the phone. Although be looking forward to the ice cream sandwidch update in 2014 cheers LG

We'll probably have CyanogenMod8 IceCream Sandwich before we see Gingerbread from LG...sigh.

So what?!
I do not realy care about ICS anyway! With my current state on the Optimus 3D I am pretty satisfied.
Who cares if its froyo, Giggybread or Peanut butter running the system.
In any way I do not like the new nexus phone its a google phone with samsung components.
I am looking forward to the next generation 3D phones. Till there is a better 3D phone out there I will be happy with the O3D .
I was really unsatisfied with the optimus 2X though.

Dear FiremakerP,
Totally agreed...
Kind Regards,

word, and word on that...what the hell everyone is forcing this updates...phone with froyo works perfect, 3300 quadrant scores, good 7am-12pm battery, 3d absolutely perfect and fun..
dudes...we have the best 3d phone available,,,didnt this (3d) the reason you bought it? if not, why not buy sgs2 in the first place?

Hahaha, good Joke! I think, the battery is the main reason why LGO3D users are waiting for GB...

Seriously... just because YOU don't care it doesn't mean that others are not allowed to care. Battery life and speed would be an improvement on gingerbread. Let others complain! They have all the right to do so. If you're happy with your froyo, you don't have to update!

with normal usage i get by the end of the day 15-20% battery left..
10-15 calls 10 sms, 10 pics, some 45 mins of avi video, half hour of gaming, maybe more, mms or two, all updatig every hour (pure messanger widget, mail, weather, and rest of the stuff)
for me pretty good.
Of course i will update...i am rom junkie from hd2 era, changed roms more often than socks, but here are too many people taliking **** about phone, even there is nothing wrong actually with it...so i commented...
cheers

i think by the number of posts, there are maybe 50 of users here, so you really think you are able to do anything, by saying "f++k this phone im gonna get me galaxy nexus" ?

Optimus One(Finished)->Optimus 2X(Finished)->Optimus Mach(Devname-Hub)(This is KOR Model)->Optimus Chic(This is KOR Model)->Optimus Black->Optimus Big(Devname-Justine)(This is KOR Model)->Optimus 3D.

so, I think December 25th~2012 January 10th.(LG Kor Model is upgrade later Than American Model)

All this GB "rumors" about better battery life is bogus.
When the Desire HD of a friend got his official OTA GB Update the phone had huge battery drains. And that was a huge issue with the OTA update from HTC for Gingerbread.
Would you rather have a rushed release? I want to support the people for bringing us a very nice device for reasonable money. I am a developer and I am pretty sure there are some pretty bright heads at LG that can make GB a good and stable release. Till then the functionality of the phone rocks pretty good.
Why all the fuzz then?

The thing is GB is talked about like it's new fangled Alchemy that nobody understands (I'll freely admit I couldn't Dev it but then th LG phone devs couldn't learn my job overnight either) but it's (GB) been out for Donkeys now. The 3D should have shipped with it and I for one thought the update would be showing a lot quicker. This sort of consumer awareness complacency is not exclusive to LG, I remember waiting for ages for the Desire GB update. Fortunately I got that a lot sooner due to the talented folks on this forum but thats by the by. The sad fact is we're all shovelfed a product that will do just enough to pass muster, after that the focus is shifted onto their next big hardware offering and IF we're lucky they'll give some work experience spod the task of working on an update that we all desperately deserve.
This is contemptible in my opinion, this phone came with a moderately high pricetag, I paid £430 and we've got software thats what? 2 years old? (don't quote me on that) We should be damanding ICS not sh!tty GB for crying out loud. A lot was made of the bleeding edge technology of the 3D, bloody well give us an OS that will show it to it's full potential. Perhaps if they weren't so insistant in putting all this bloatware crap into it (I know how to use the Market app if I need any of this tosh FFS) it might actually get done sooner? Ironically Smartworld/LGworld updates (that I couldn't give a monkeys about) come thick and fast, take some of the software devs from here and put them to work on the OS for crying out loud.

option to view 3d movie in single screen (2d) is really needed...but i dont think we need fw upgrade...maybe new vido player with that option built in..
well see ..

Video stabilization would be great! I really envy iPhone 4S users for their awesome video [email protected]!!

I'm agree that Gingerbread surely will not improve battery low performance. I read that one of the apps that run in the background that really drains the battery is the LG stock gallery. I have frozen the LG gallery app using Titanium Backup and I think battery lasts much more now. To watch pics I use Quikpic instead.

It better not have the same lag issues as the current crop, otherwise im not buying it.
If it doesn't have tons of ram i don't want it.
omg it makes me so sad to see this after ive only had my captivate for a month but imagine what the next year or two will bring!
Unless the samoled 2 is also a solar panel, I don't experience the best battery life...

Probably gonna be bogged with RFS and and TouchWiz. If they bork the nexus S with RFS that will seriously suck. I know we can run lag fixes etc. but it would be nice to get a phone that doesn't need to be hacked just top be functional (totally would still root it, but its just the satisfaction of knowing that I wouldn't have to ^_^)
I'd still pick the Nexus S.
If the Captivate has such awful battery life, I can't imagine what a 1.2ghz processor and a 4.3" screen will do to it.
The Google Experience with a 4" screen is my dream phone. The S2 sure does look pretty though.

with all this extra power, bigger screen etc, I couldnt believe what kind of a battery it would need to be HALF DECENT.
Companies should stop competing in cpu wars, display wars etc and really revolutionize a battery that will last at least a full 24 hours with moderate usage.

Very sad for Samsung not to figure out GPS yet.

This isn't fake at all. I have a very good source at Samsung who can confirm this device, although those slides are not final. Like Engadget said, these slides are 100% real from Samsung... they just used an image of a different device to get their point across. Not meant to be seen by the whole world.
Anyways, the device (which can be confirmed real by Engadget, BGR, AndroidCentral) is called the Samsung Elite: http://briefmobile.com/new-samsung-elite-specifications
It is the successor to the Galaxy S line and it's due in early 2011 for announcement.

Sounds reasonable, I was wondering if it's samsung advertising our a mock up of what might come next.
People around here are so argumentative over things where they have no facts. Also I don't get what people expect of a phone, I find battery life between meets expectations to excellent depending on what rom and modem I'm running.
And where did the notion that amoled displays hog power come from? that's the opposite of true, I don't know what the droid x is like but go buy an evo and check the battery life, it's far from good.
I'm excited about the nexus s and hope the rom and kernel port to the captivate, I just wonder if the modem will be a problem, I'm guessing it will be hsupa+ (4g) and wonder if the hardware is the same in that area and if the modem file will support the att 3g bands, or will a froyo captivate modem.bin work in gingerbread? I'll have to wait and see. As for my next phone I'll wait for a dual core device.

Mytouch 4G compared to the new CES 2011 "super phones"

So the CES 2011 in Las Vegas just introduced a new array of phones..we see some cool features such as the dual core processors/slimmer design/brilliant display/8MP cameras/1080p..
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Moto Atrix 4G, LG Optimus 2X & Black, HTC EVO Shift, Samsung Infuse..which is tickling your fancy? Having just used the Mytouch 4g for a little over 3 weeks, I'd like to know what you guys think of the new phones compared to the Mytouch..Discuss..
Since we have the second gen snapdragon and more ram i think we will be better off than most of the other 2010 phones, i'm glad i used my dad upgrade for it though because i will be eligible in July.
May I say it might be nice to have a link of this information so we might look.

I've mentioned a while back that the physical aesthetics are extremely similar to iPhone 3Gs, but that's actually not a bad thing, albeit not very original. I will be watching this handset closely and may just have to trade in my MT4G as well. Definitely seems like a very appealing option.

Atrix is what attracted me the most. I just know they will f*ck it up with that e-fuse nonsense...
super phones....hmmmm.....impressive hardware but I want to see how they behave in real world scenarios regarding battery life, picture quality, overall quality...why do I need a dual core for running gingerbread....not really sure....hardware impresses first and then you realize if the software on the beast sucks it doesn't help. I have the MT4G and the front facing camera is almost useless because Tango and Qik are lousy programs. The wifi calling is a nice idea but only when the software is great. The MT4G wifi calling software is lousy. So there is much more to do on the software side regarding Android then bringing out every two month faster phones. I don't game on my phone so I am happy for now with my MT4G and wait until there are reall innovations in hardware and software. Faster is no selling point for me....

this x1000
it can have 40 cores it wont make a difference if its no better than the 20 hours i get out of my mytouch. Agree vid chat is a joke on android right now (granted how often would we really use it if it worked fantastic)
Im sure a year from now ill want a new device but now and until prob the middle of this year the mytouch will be okay. We have moto releasing some devices (we all know their history with rooting) and samsung (lol software updates)
the optimus is cool but its LGs first go into smartphones (let alone cutting edge ones) the jury is still out. See how they handle this device then make a decision

i also agree with this besides the gaming part. i dislike apples product alot but.. their software is awesome compared. lol. we DONT need better phones. we need UPDATED OPEN GL! iphone and wm7 have newest so with our phones with downgraded open gl we wont run programs close as good no matter if we have 100th gen 1ghz processors and they still have 1st.. software upgrades sound amazing, new phones = bleh.
Well initially my plan was to upgrade from my HD2 next end of this year when dual core cell based proc came out on phones. But since I lost it I had no choice to buy MT4G. Guess ill wait once dual core is more mainstream then I mean I been using MT4G for one day now and man o man its super stable and the boot is fast as hell.
If you are trying to be head in the tech world you better have alot of money as you will need it to keep up. Mostly everything gets old in 5-6months. Thats why I picked HD2 still beating down Evo fanboys.

I actually see no point in putting it on my O3D. We'll get 2.3 soon enough and any mods etc can probably be added like the perfomance patch.
The only reason I put cyanogen on my old phone was because it only went upto 2.1.

yes but it can make the phone unstable... I've got it on an old phone and randomly restarts, which is a known issue. you can delete the stuff yourself. it doesn't exactly improve the battery an epic amount now does it....
while it's a great rom, I don't see enough reasons to put it on my O3D.

Fully agreed! That's the reason why we are all here!
Bet I had 7 Andriod phones so far ranging from Milestone, Galaxy S, Desire, Desire HD, Optimus X2, GS2 and now this and I can't say I have ever used one of his roms.
as far as i can tell from the experiments i've done with removing stuff from the system to see what works and what doesnt all the 3d stuff integrated into the stock rom comes from distinct apps that can be added and removed at will. beyond that it's just a case of integrating drivers for the screen that will be the part that needs work so i have no doubt that cyanogen will work like it does on every other phone on this one but with the added fun of having 3d capability.
Cyanogen
great and best info. The LX2 was so slow with stock rom and cyanogen made it work great
I hope so for the 3d too

Well as fast as you seem to be switching phones I can't really se how you even could have? the O2X is fairly new (what 5-6 months?) and CM7 is still under development for that one, the GS2 is what at a maximum 3 months old if you got it on the release day? Samsung btw sent a GS2 to Cyanogen in the hopes that he would get CM on it, CM isn't really a homebrew cut and paste ROM it's more like a off-shoot branch of Android and it takes time for them to make them work with new hardware.
And it's not "one of his ROMs" CM like MUMI and Android Stock is one ROM that works on different phones, there is a major difference
Edit:
Many home made cut and paste ROMs are how ever based on CM or Stock or a mix of both and just added and removed apps as they want it, so if you've used a custom ROM for a phone that CM supports it's more than likely that you have used CM only under a different name.
updates
Yes the news what were all hear for really, custom roms. Its shocking how slow LG is with the firmware side of thing., Their flagship phone firmware is like a year old Promises of updates is no good having them is.
wouldnt mind having sense based on evo 3g rom. got inpatient waiting on the evo 3d, next best thing is cfw based on it
Now i hear vodafone is dropping the evo 3d so i made a good call. Delays then patent infringements from apple leads to the customer missing out
It's quite simple i want 2.3.4 for Talk with video and features which can only be used on a Rooted Gingerbread rom. Although i won't use Gingerbread that long because there will be an other ROM which is calles Ice Cream as soon as Cyanogen can put his fingers on it ;-)
Really Love it So waiting for now
+ if cyanogen makes the rom, there will be many more roms following which are based on it, including miui rom. And some other developers will find the suitable ground to make cyanogen based additions to the phone.
Having cyanogen available is always beneficial

Ive had numerous android phones over the past few years and have developed for them also and can say that, personally cyanogen roms always screw up down the line and dont bother with them anymore as theyre all the same. i can tell you why they fail too, because of the way they are developed, rather than rewriting all the updated components, he will add to the component. which makes it perform half as well as a component written from scratch to the spec it is.
so for that reason....IM OUT

If that's you're vission that is all for you. I love the stock approach of Cyanogen with or whitout new programming. Building from scratch asks a lot of time Cyanogen is one off many who try and he's doing quite well for me. So have fun with you're stock device I will wait for Cyanogen to drop LG's software

any new information about Cyanogenmod ?

Optimus 3D Cube - a slightly slimmer sequel

Well the Optimus 3D sequel is finally official and it will be called Optimus 3D Cube. If you ask me specs aren't too impresive. A dual core 1.2 GHz, 16GB of inbuilt memory, 9.6mm thick, Dual 5mpx camera, 4.3" screen, Android 2.3 and that's all that's known for now. Sounds more like a mainstream device than a high-end phone. No word on the amount of RAM yet.
EDIT: Here it will be called Optimus 3D Max. And there's more info about the phone too. Screen resolution is 480x800, TI OMAP4430 CPU, 1GB of RAM etc. Look here http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-O...cial-glasses-free-3D-just-got-slimmer_id27124

I wonder if it can basic things... like receive calls?
or will it be affected by the ghost call bug like his older brother?
Bad LG, very very bad.

Look at them... they think it will get ics after launch!!!! Haha.
But seriously it looks like we might be able to steal some gb from it the processor is constant and the real3d lg propietary code wont need to be ported... maybe a small hope...?
Sent from my LG Thrill 4G...
It's a trap!
No way I would ever make this same mistake twice and go for LG again. Maybe this phone receives calls !
Be careful guys.
Wow really why release a new device that looks pretty much exactly the same! And then say its gonna have 2.3 on it!! WTF, how about take care of your customers that you already have and update our Thrill 4G. I honestly will never buy a LG product again. This is complete BS... the Optimus 3D got gingerbread and the Rogers Thrill 4G got gingerbread so where the F is AT&T gingerbread?!

I was seriously thinking in selling my O3D and getting this one (yeah, LG again!?!?) IF AND ONLY IF:
1-Ice Cream Sandwich from the box,
2-1GB RAM
3-Bigger resolution screen
4-1700mA Battery or more
Seems RAM is 1GB, but 800x600, 1500mA and they put Gingerbread again ("but we promise you ICS ASAP bla bla bla")...
So, good job LG: I stay with my Optimus (and maybe I'll move to Samsung if Galaxy S3 has 3D, as rumoured).
And for the record:
DEAR LG MORONS: NOBODY CARES IF THIS NEW CRAP IS 1 nanometer slimmer and 1g lighter than O3D. THE PROBLEMS OF O3D ARE NOT WEIGHT OR THINNESS, BUT SOFTWARE AND BASEBAND. ARE YOU LISTENING, LG MORONS?
In terms of software, Android 2.3 Gingerbread is what comes out of the box, but an Ice Cream Sandwich update will be released shortly after the smartphone's launch.

HaHaHaHaHa...
bad, very bad.. just 1.2 ghz and still gb..
GB at this point ? I don't want to live on this planet anymore
Looks like lg have downgraded our phone called it a new name then remarket it my m8 has a old htc and is getting twice as much from likes of envirophone.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda premium
To be honest, the white one at the back may appeal to some...
But sure it's not all about looks, and spec-wise there's nothing much better than our O3D. Adding that to the already slow and irresponsive software development team support... a NO GO for me definitely

LOL @ LG
U morons none of us previous customers will buy lg phones again. I hope all your prospective custoemrs visit your FB pages and see complaints from existing customers and they also refuse to buy your phones.
1.2Ghz in new phone? I'm already running my o3d @ 1.3ghz you POS phone engineers.
So they are basically releasing the same phone again then?
Great.

But hey.
that MIGHT be very good news for us IF this NEW-old Optimus 3D gets ICS update fast (yes I know fast - lol). It its like 90% compatible with our O3D in the terms of Hardware, than the port of ICS with working 3D may be possible/easier or whatever. These phones are like 99% the same.

Yea,it's basically the same phone,it uses TI OMAP 4430 just like us O3D,it has 2x5 Mpix camera, same screen...only diference is that new one have 1GB RAM (we have 512MB) so in theory it should be easy to port ICS when it gets it and that GB with that fancy cube
Here is a video for the new device:

Hmmm...you don't know that, there's no SIM card in it
what is their point to release a new phone with same look similar spec and even software?? LG should check out the hardware like Samsung and software UI like HTC, and also listen to customers complaint. I think that is why the price of O3D dropping ridiculously. I will not go with LG any more if they not change.

Please check your needs
1: Display will blow you away 3D is exceptional. On 2d side contrast is good enough though still lags behind Galaxy S/S2.
2: Performance doesn't lag any mobile.
3: I do like the weight but for many heavy.
4: Ghost call issue was very visible on v21a but haven't have any since v20b may be i wasn't able to detect. if you can survive Froyo then no GCs there.
5: Battery hmmm really is the real culprit. In initial days you will use a lot of 3d and might consume your battery within 3 hours.
6: Custom ROM development is nothing compared to other famous sets.
7: 920 and 925 are same 920 roms on 925 doesn't kill it.
Battery life on other dual cores isn't good either only real alternative is S2 but they themselves have pink spot issue (just for proving nobody's perfect).
After removing almost all LG bloatware and minimal usage (4-5 3d pics, 10-15 mins of 3d viewing, 1.5 hrs of talk, hour of wifi email/browsing,<10 mins of gaming, some gps), 100% in morning and 15% next day 8 P.M.
So if you like 3d no competition O3d
If 3d not important and you have more money S2.
If custom ROM development important S2
If Battery life important S2
I believe that you are getting a p925 considering it can utilize all ROMs for p920 and at a very nominal price. so if you cant afford S2 its an excellent buy.

+1 for the informative reply
I also want to add p920 has amazing hardware with the omap 4430 and the powerVR 540 you can play all resouce hungry games with no worries.
I paid for mine here in Egypt around $400 and in my opinion I think it's fair for the device if they provide us with a working ICS OS in the next months.

It is all said above. I would only add that, if you were purchasing an ipod touch because you don't need an iphone to make or receive calls, then you should buy an Optimus 3D. It is one of the best media players, but the worst cell phone in history.

Here's a video I've made running Tegra games (some of them) on O3D, using ThiaiZ Prada ROM. In general, performance if goode, not the ultimate phone but surely a good one for playing, listening music, for a unique 3D phone.
For me is perfect, because I'm a 3D fan - LG 3D Tv set (PX950), FujiFilm Real3d W1 camera...
The first link:

The second one is with a footage filmed at 1080p in 2D mode.

Be yourself to judge this phone. Go to a shop and feel it, touch it... read this forum...
I bought mine for 350 euro and my wife's for 300 euros (2 weeks later, with a promotional sale).
I just bought an Optimus 3D and I can't believe how good it is. Managed to get a very very cheap second hand one. Got it with the intention of playing with it a bit before selling it on but it's shockingly good.
Not only is the whole 3D thing entertaining but it's quite smooth and fast as a phone too. Yeah, it's no Galaxy S II, but I was expecting something clunky and slow which put far too much focus on 3D content. Instead, I got something quite pleasant to use.
And if you're into showing off, then this is definitely the phone for you . You can only impress other tech nerds with your nexus, but this thing will have everyone clamoring to be in a 3D photo.
A gimmick? Yes. A Fun one? Also yes. And aren't all phones just gimmicky anyway?
Ok... and what do you prefer? A O3D or a Atrix 4G?

Don't you dare to buy this s**t!!!
