Mytouch 4G compared to the new CES 2011 "super phones" - myTouch 4G General

So the CES 2011 in Las Vegas just introduced a new array of phones..we see some cool features such as the dual core processors/slimmer design/brilliant display/8MP cameras/1080p..
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Moto Atrix 4G, LG Optimus 2X & Black, HTC EVO Shift, Samsung Infuse..which is tickling your fancy? Having just used the Mytouch 4g for a little over 3 weeks, I'd like to know what you guys think of the new phones compared to the Mytouch..Discuss..

Since we have the second gen snapdragon and more ram i think we will be better off than most of the other 2010 phones, i'm glad i used my dad upgrade for it though because i will be eligible in July.

May I say it might be nice to have a link of this information so we might look.

Here too. http://phandroid.com/

Moto Atrix 4G looks pretty cool, alot of features... they brought the HTC desire HD to at&t which I was hopeing they tmobile would have it with a front facing cam but nope... Nothing to special, but honeycomb and tablets looking good...

I'll trade the myTouch 4g for the Optimus 2x if it really does come to T-Mob. I'm digging the whole 1080p hdmi and 8mp camera.

I've mentioned a while back that the physical aesthetics are extremely similar to iPhone 3Gs, but that's actually not a bad thing, albeit not very original. I will be watching this handset closely and may just have to trade in my MT4G as well. Definitely seems like a very appealing option.

The HDMI Mirroring is what i'm interested in. Angry birds, Fruit Ninja, the Browser... everything about it... When Netflix hits android that will be 110% pure gin and juice in my book.

I think out of the bunch the Atrix is by far the most interesting. The whole thing with the laptop dock is so interesting.

Atrix is what attracted me the most. I just know they will f*ck it up with that e-fuse nonsense...

super phones....hmmmm.....impressive hardware but I want to see how they behave in real world scenarios regarding battery life, picture quality, overall quality...why do I need a dual core for running gingerbread....not really sure....hardware impresses first and then you realize if the software on the beast sucks it doesn't help. I have the MT4G and the front facing camera is almost useless because Tango and Qik are lousy programs. The wifi calling is a nice idea but only when the software is great. The MT4G wifi calling software is lousy. So there is much more to do on the software side regarding Android then bringing out every two month faster phones. I don't game on my phone so I am happy for now with my MT4G and wait until there are reall innovations in hardware and software. Faster is no selling point for me....

this x1000
it can have 40 cores it wont make a difference if its no better than the 20 hours i get out of my mytouch. Agree vid chat is a joke on android right now (granted how often would we really use it if it worked fantastic)
Im sure a year from now ill want a new device but now and until prob the middle of this year the mytouch will be okay. We have moto releasing some devices (we all know their history with rooting) and samsung (lol software updates)
the optimus is cool but its LGs first go into smartphones (let alone cutting edge ones) the jury is still out. See how they handle this device then make a decision

i also agree with this besides the gaming part. i dislike apples product alot but.. their software is awesome compared. lol. we DONT need better phones. we need UPDATED OPEN GL! iphone and wm7 have newest so with our phones with downgraded open gl we wont run programs close as good no matter if we have 100th gen 1ghz processors and they still have 1st.. software upgrades sound amazing, new phones = bleh.

Well initially my plan was to upgrade from my HD2 next end of this year when dual core cell based proc came out on phones. But since I lost it I had no choice to buy MT4G. Guess ill wait once dual core is more mainstream then I mean I been using MT4G for one day now and man o man its super stable and the boot is fast as hell.
If you are trying to be head in the tech world you better have alot of money as you will need it to keep up. Mostly everything gets old in 5-6months. Thats why I picked HD2 still beating down Evo fanboys.

myTouch 4G - the best phone to date

I finally got the mytouch today and i wasnt sure sure what to expext. But now i know.... this baby is a BEAST. Fastest phone i have ever used. The processor blows away the competition, by far! Internet wise, the 4G yeilds 6.5 mbps up 1.4 down. Also this the first Android phone that has smooth multitouch. Not choppy, and no lag. Also dont let pictures of this phone fool you, it is sleek and sexy. I got the black one. I definitely recommend it if you need a new phone or are thinking about getting one. What do you guys think?

I checked it out in the T-Mobile store this evening. Seemed nice, but the UI really ircked me. It felt laggy and bloated, often lagging between the app drawer and menus. The device has nice hardware, to be sure, but it'll need perma-root to really shine.
I'm trying to decide whether I want to buy a G2 or MT4G, depends which gets full root first, I think. Or if the N2 rumors turn out to be true.
I can confirm the HSPA+ speeds are pretty snappy though. In Phoenix, the '4G' network is live, and I got similar speeds to what you got in the TMO store.
I might have to get one of these to accompany my G2... I like what I am seeing so far

If you try the phone at the store, remember that people have been screwing the demo phones up. The one at the store was so full of junk that it crawled.
The one I bought has been flawless. Even with Sense, and I came from an N1!

I always do factory resets on them.
I've had a G2, wasn't impressed with the weight, hinge or keyboard. Basically it was a fat N1 that felt a bit speedier. In comparison, this MT4G is great, super fast, the HTC keyboard is better than stock and the screen is accurate.
All total I've had a Sprint Hero, EVO, G2, Vibrant, and N1. This MT4G is tops by far.

The MT4G I played with seemed to only have Swype as a virtual keyboard option, which I didn't care for. On my Droid 1, I use the HTC-IME keyboard for those few times I use the on screen keyboard.
You've obviously had more Android phones than me. I'm looking to buy a new phone for myself for Christmas, should have plenty of options, but I don't see Verizon offering me what I want.
Edit - Seems to be plenty of AOSP builds for the MT3G, a good sign once permanent root is achieved.

This is definitely T-Mob's best production to date by far. After release of the G2 with the bulk of the physical kb & funky hinge I'm so happy to see a great, sleek, sexy, beast of an Andriod phone on T-Mob.

coming from the vibrant, i love the quickness of the phone along with how sharp it displays text.
S-amoled is great and all, but its pentile arrangement of pixels renders jaggy-looking text.
I like everything about it except for the following:
1. Genius button. Wish it was software mappable. They shouldn't force us to use it. Just give me a regular search button and then make it an option of what it does when you hold down on it.
2. Speaker starts crackling on loud setting.
3. Wish it wasn't locked down so we could get easy root and swap roms. That goes for all the new phones, really.

The G2 doesn't have a front facing camera, than again, it isn't called the G2 4G.
Looks like you are right. There is a front facing camera.
The downside being no camera flash (bit strange) and it is running Froyo (than again, it seems like no phones beside the S and the Arc are running Gingerbread).
I like the design of the Sidekick 4G.

Well the Desire-Z is the G2 with Sense. But I definitely agree about the front-facing camera.
Anyways, the Sidekick 4G is made by Samsung. At least we know the target demographic doesn't care about updates
On the bright side, it doesn't have the TouchWiz interface.
Only interesting looking android phone I've seen in some time... might pick one up as a back-back-backup just in case my 3 WP7s blow up at the same time...
Yeah but they better include a 2000 mAh battery. Sidekicks used to have really long battery life because they were always connected to the internet (AIM, etc) with push. Battery life is not Android's forte. I can't wait to see all of the confused ghetto 13 year olds who have no idea how to operate Android.
I am ridiculously excited. I love the Sidekick.
I'm hoping they make a Sidekick Launcher that's like the DangerOS though.

Yeah, I just saw that when I was going through more pictures online. It seems similar enough -- enough to utilize the scroll wheel (scroll... sensor?) on the right.
I think the only thing I miss is the set of numbers that were set-up on the keyboard so that it had a more phone-like feel. (The ones you could dial with, or use ALT to access).
I want to know the dimensions of the Sidekick. It looks pretty thin and I am assuming that they haven't change the screen size much.
I think this post deserves a bump.
I am disappointed that it is a Samsung phone. I'm hoping that maybe Andy Rubin might give it a personal touch I hope. He was one of the original founders of Danger Technologies, INC after all.
I've used Sidekick since the first Color version (SKC) all the way up to the SKLX 09. Then the MicroGate problem occured and I abandoned the platform all together. I must say that even though I wanted the most badass phone I could get at the time; I am seriously displeased with my current Samsung Vibrant. Mostly on the behalf of firmware updates, but also because I used a real keyboard for so long that I still to this day can't stand using a virtual keyboard.
What they need to make this a hit is speed, ease of use, functionality, battery life, OTA updates, and a very snappy responsive keyboard. The last generation keyboard by Sharp wasn't bad and more of the same design would be good.

Well.. I'm really disappointed. I mean REALLY. When you compare the hardware it's almost nothing new.
HTC Desire S vs HTC Desire
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3776&idPhone2=3077
I'm a HTC fan since many years and it's hard for me to say this, but HTC is really behind now and is only trying to make money and sell us BULL****!!!
Just see the comparison and you will know what I'm talking about... minor changes. NOT EVEN THE PROCESSOR HAS CHANGED!!!
The Incredible S is also nothing new under the sun. Not even a dual-core processor... No 1GB of ram.
Seriously, HTC, WHAT THE ****?
The hardware specs of Galaxy S II can eat HTC's newest devices for breakfast.
And HTC really made a big mistake because right now it's no more about the software, it's the hardware that matters. Android is almost the same on all devices and with a community like XDA everything (costumization) is possible.
RIP HTC, I will never buy a device from you anymore.
I feel pretty let down by HTC's showing at MWC.
I was expecting an Atrix/Galaxy 2 rival (aka the Pyramid) and they show us unibodied versions of phones that have been out since last year with slightly bigger batteries running Gingerbread.
I don't know whether to jump ship to the Atrix or to wait and see if they produce the Pyramid at a later date.
I'm not particularly interested in the Tablet, and if I was to get one i'd get the Moto Xoom or Samsung Galaxy 10.1 as they are pretty much the same as each other anyway with stock Honeycomb, rather than a massively skinned and shelled Gingerbread device.
HTC needs to stop trying to insist upon making Sense the core product they are selling and start making some big leaps in hardware, and soon..
Fail
I was expecting a dual core android 2.4 phone with physical keyboard and a android 3.0 tablet. None arrived...
Very dissapointed.
Was hoping for the Pyramid - something to rival the Galaxy S2 in terms of hardware specs.
I really want a HTC and was waiting for this news to determine how to proceed.
If you want the technology the Galaxy S2 seems to be the handset to get, but Samsungs TouchWiz just doesn't even compare to HTC's sense.
For me its the Desire S for now.....I need Sense in my life.
WHERE IS THE PYRAMID!!!!!!
remind me again why i should get rid of my N1?
oh yeah nothing... HELLO!!!! HTC!!! are you even trying anymore?
the only thing turing me off of the Atrix was the possible locked boot loader, and wanting to see what HTC was about to push out....
now that we have one thing off the list.... i feel that i may be leaving HTC for a while until they get their act together... maybe thats what they need... sales not to climb like they have, an actual slap to their bottom line that says consumers are done buying the same thing over and over... but sadly, even with the numbers we have, until the masses relize this, HTC sale numbers will continue to rise and no real reason for them to change...
in their eyes, if it aint broke, why fix it?
for me, its a total dissapointment.
i mean WTF ARE THEY THINKING
its the same ****.. AGAIN
there is still no phone that would be a REAL upgrade to my HD2..
i hoped for a new flagship.. i hoped it so bad..
i hoped for something that would frag all others away.. but they stay at the same level.. just to get even more money out from the same old **** >.>
only good thing of htc this time was the tablet. but thats it, and i guess they will overprice it, so i won't get it
i'll stick to my HD2. **** you HTC, u idiots
Sent from my HD2
like all of you, I'm very disappointed... where is my Pyramid!!?
Meh, totally under-whelming.
Build quality of the Desire S sounds nice, and i wouldn't mind having one, but it's not specced any higher than my N1 and of course is full of 'Sense' crap which i'd have to nuke from orbit before using the thing.
im really thinking of totaly switching to moto now
the atrix and the xoom tab are just too cool...
and more sexy.
Whats up Guys @ HTC
Every Smartphone producer shows their flagships at MWC this week, and HTC???
Not even one word about the Pyramid is in planning?
Sure we have to wait...
(it was the same with the Snapdragon 1GHz Processor, the TG01 was 4 months before the HD2 out)
And im pretty sure the wait was worth it!
So now we can buy soon (non HTC ):
- Many Dual core (even different Processors) Phones
- 3D Display Phones
- Ultra bright Display ( 700 Nit - Daylight usable) Phones
- Ultra thin and light (Dual Core) Phones (~8,5mm)
And whats coming from HTC? - only a "Sense" with streaming, and an "new" Facebook Button
Where is the Successor of the HD2
Come on HTC, you have to be the carriers of technology, dont get lost in Software ...
Phones are still made out of Hardware!!!
Give the people a Dream - a Dream we want to wait for :
Oh, and this will be such an Dream:

The Galaxy S II has some fantastic hardware, but I decided because of the complaints people have about software updates etc that I would wait and see what HTC had on offer before making up my mind. Having seen it I have to wonder what exactly are they thinking? Sure they're well built phones, but why do they feel satisfied in pushing out fairly old hardware.

Of course. It may well be that they thought a more reasonably priced (if indeed they are reasonably priced) phone would be just what the market needs. It just seemed remarkably out of place for them to wax lyrical about phones that are remarkably similar to their current generation except with new software.
HTC should really make Sense downloadable through market as a launcher instead. I just hate it. It's ugly and doesn't really make a difference for me.
Regarding the new phones there is nothing really impressive. The new Tegra2 dual core phones that are coming out (LG and Motorola) will most likely blow any of those HTC phones away. I believe they also have integrated geforce graphics so nothing should really be an issue on those phones.
My Wildfire have been a disappointment so I wouldn't even consider a HTC phone again unless I was 100% certain I could make it good.
One devices than can beat the Desire HD?
I stopped paying attention to smartphones a long time ago.
But the HTC Flyer actually catches my attention as a useful Android tablet for once. No Honeycomb is a bummer (Android is already too fragmented!), but it does have an N-trig DuoSense digitizer and apps to use it with. More than I can say for a certain other US$800 Android tablet.
Maybe I won't have to keep looking specifically at Windows Tablet PCs for a viable pen and paper alternative.

Will This Change Your Mind about the Sensation 4g???

I'll admit every day I'm closer and closer to listing my G2x on ebay, in favor of the HTC Sensation but the locked bootloader had me very worried. Fast forward to Today, and HTC CEO officially confirmed that locked bootloaders will no longer be implemented in their devices. Sooooooo, as soon as the Sensation's released date is officially confirmed as June 8th my G2x is going bye-bye. Now the G2x is an amazing device, don't get me wrong but I had the Thunderbolt when I was with verizon, and grew quite fond of HTC sense UI. I probably won't be keeping the Sensation for long either, because as soon as Samsung Hercules comes out, it's going on ebay too, lol.http://www.tmonews.com/2011/05/htc-decides-to-unlock-bootloaders-moving-forward/
I'm tempted as well but not a big fan of sense UI I also want to see what issues this phone will have when it's released.

We are talking about unlocked bootloaders on a site that deals with multiple developers making all kinds of roms and you are worried about sense LOL

Nope, who would want the Sensation when the GOD of all phones is being released 2 months later? In my opinion, the G2X is slightly better than the Sensation but the SGSII/Hercules is on it's own level.
What kind of screen is the sensation supposed to have? I hope not the same as the g2 as that phone was useless in the daylight.

HTC has not stated when the new policy will take effect. I doubt the htc sensation or evo 3d will have unlocked bootloaders.
Though HTC might release the key to the public.

That's what I was thinking, maybe they'll release it on their support site for currently locked devices.

S-LCD I believe.
I suppose it's possible that a decision made this week to nix the locked bootloaders could manifest itself on a very soon to be released device, but I'll be surprised if it is.
Future HTC phones may be more open, but it seems like wishful thinking to assume the Sensation's bootloader has been re-engineered in the last couple of weeks.
Also, I'm not so sure the Sensations hardware really measures up to what we have in our G2xs.
I'm as much of an HTC fan as anyone (see my XDA join date) I really really miss my dear departed N1, I can't bring myself to sell my MT3G, and I have two WinMo HTC phones gathering dust in a desk drawer. All that said it is nice to see someone else like LG stepping up with an enthusiasts quality device. If and when they do get the kinks ironed out this thing will be the best of the best, and wait till we see the second generation LG Android flagship.
Wow, elephants can dance...
“There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we’ve listened. Today, I’m confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience,”
Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

Just curious, why? The locked bootloader was everyone's biggest gripe and now that's gone. They built the N1 and G2 which were great phones and got lots of developer support. Their internal memory's a little skimpy but that's already starting to change with the EVO 3D. I'm not a fan of any one phone manufacturer but some of my best phones were HTC's. Just wanted to know what made you feel so strongly.
Choice is good. Choice is very good.
HTC can't even have a phone with good battery life. The speakers suck and sound blown. They are producing phones at such a high rate corners have to be cut. By theory, HTC devices are nice but on the end users side they are really nothing to scream to Tue gods about. They seem to worry more about that damn sense crap than putting decent displays and speaker units into the phones and bump the battery to a better mah rating. I say ditch sense and use that money to use better higher quality and appealing parts.

On a side note, the only reason why I would even consider the sensation is the screen size.

I posted this in another thread but essentially Qualcomm tends to deliver chips that look great on paper but are **** in reality and HTC's build quality leaves something to be desired. Some of my best devices have indeed been HTC devices - however, I have never had a single HTC device last as long as my Captivate did and HTC cuts corners too much for my liking. The Evo is a perfect example. Two different types of display panels, one of them with a decidedly yellow tint; the artificial bottlecap on framerate that was imposed and the piss-poor decision to use very thin Gorilla Glass which made the device very prone to instant breakage if dropped. My Captivate? I threw it across the room in a rage and it didn't even dent it. I dropped it face-first on concrete I don't know how many times and only got scratches.
Don't even get me started on battery life, shoddy driver history, and the outright lies about storage space that HTC makes. I bought an Inspire expecting to get 4GB of internal NAND - only to find out that it does indeed have 4GB of NAND but user accessible NAND was only 2GB because they formatted it for speed instead of capacity. HTC is the only manufacturer that has done this as far as I've seen and it does not give me any faith in them. Too many lies, cut corners, and replaced devices for my taste. My MT4G out of the box was the worst phone I've ever had. Dead pixels, dead headphone jack, factory reset itself twice while it was running STOCK, my menu button had to be pressed extremely hard to get it to work, etc.
The Inspire had a worse battery than the Evo did but other than that seemed to be the highest quality HTC device I'd seen other than reception and the NAND misrepresentation. The screen sensitivity was almost too much and the "capacitive matrix" was much tighter than the one on my other LCD devices. Oh and the ear piece volume is always a nightmare with HTC devices.
I'll give you dev support but with nVidia, Marvell, and Freescale joining the mobile fight and Intel also promising to jump in as well, I see some big shifts in power coming to the mobile world. Software development behind the Tegra has really taken off and I don't think I've ever seen HTC release a device that didn't have a Qualcomm MSM after they dropped the Intel (now Marvell) PXA chip.

actually its qHD the sensation will be pretty similar to the SGS2 from the specs ive been reading. 1.2 dual core, qHD (one step below the retinal screen on the iphone 4).... the HTC screen to me makes up for the slight differences. plus Touchwiz isn't my favorite after my Vibrant experience. Both will be good though.

Amaze vs Galaxy SII

I have a question, since there is no Amaze forum yet i figured this is the closest to it with the Sensation. I currently have a Tmobile Vibrant with a custom Rom using GB 2.3.5.
My question is if money isnt an issue, should I get an Amaze or Gal S2?
One of the biggest differences is LCD (Amaze) (4.3 screen) Superamled (S2) (4.5)
With the vibrant from day 1 i have had a problem with GPS not really working and Samsung/Tmoible not giving a crap. So I figured I would get a Sensation, but after the annoucment on monday about the Amaze in a week, i figured that is better choice. But after reading all the comments in this forum about people would rather have a S2, its kind of throwing my thinking off.
Can i get some input here, remember it doesnt matter on the price, its a corporate deal and the phones are free as part of the incentive.
I read with the Sensation, that you can get a better battery from Amazon so i would assume (but no one really knows yet) that its going to be simular battery.
Iphone 5 j/k both have qualcom chipset. I love HTC but damn...their speaker sux balls. I've Sensation now...who knows i'll probably wait till november and see if Iphone 5 release for tmobile true or not.
My wife gets one more phone discount for the year so we are going to get one or the other. I was all for the S2 but im digging the Amaze. Build Quality, camera, bigger battery and the Internal storage I think is going to win me over to the amaze. I had a vibrant and loved it but it took a lot of work to get it to where I was happy with it ( thanks to team Whiskey). I love the white back as well with the amaze.

Definitely the Amaze, no question.

What about the screen size, does the qHD screen cause any problems with apps that dont use the full screen? Example: lcd density when set to 180 on the vibrant would be 540x965 (or something very close) and some of the apps only used a little bit of the screen. Is that still true with the sensation? Obviously since the phone isnt out yet no one would know, but you guys say the speaker is terrible on the sensation, is it really that bad?
These threads always crack me up when a new phone comes out
I'd get the s2,The amaze looks like a mt4g slide w/out keyboard and the specs ain't that much improved over sensations, plus I can tell you coming from a vibrant super amoled is better looking then any other mobile display bar the retina display.I've heard the s2 for sprint has no lag and tmo's is supposed to be faster,I love my sensation but like
Epsix said the speaker sux,HTC always had bad sound,my g1,mt3g,3g slide, now this .

I agree. I currently own both the Sensation and the International version of the SGS2, and without question, the SGS2 is on another level. I try and can't get my S2 to lag, with the Sensation, it lags just by looking at it. The only intriguing aspect of the Amaze is the new camera. But most people don't get a device merely for the camera. Anyway, I'd recommend the S2 over the Amaze. That being said, both get released the same day. Go into TMO and play with both and see which one you like most.

Yeah but isn't your international gsII a whole different anaimal? I mean the tmo gsII has the same processor as the sensation right? If that's the case the lower Res screen and same processor make our tmo gsII a lot less intriguing sadly.

My co-worker just got the S2, Sprint version and th that thing flies, having said that I didn't like the design and is super light which I don't like.
I'm pretty happy with my Sensation build quality and overall performance but most importantly reliability and HTC updates

That's one of the reasons I love the international SGS2 version, no carrier BS. There have been more than 20 updates since the device was released in May.

Yes, sadly, the processor is similar. The difference is that SGS2 is clocked @ 1.5ghz out of the box and will support TMO's 42mb network. The question is whether Samsung did a better job matching the hardware and software (i.e true hardware acceleration). We will find out soon enough.
Well a plus of this T-Mobile gs2 is its metallic frame no?? I thought I saw that in pics and heard it somewhere. If that'd the case that's a big thing people didn't like about the galaxy phones was the plasticy feeling that would no longer he there

They are pretty much the same phone, you just have to figure out if you prefer qHD S-LCD or WVGA Super AMOLED Plus.
both phones are very similar except for the screen. sgs2 is 1.5 and supports the 42mbps. i have the sensation which is going to be very similar to the amaze and im really happy with it but im thinking about trading it for the hercules. the video i posted is a review of the hercules. if you want the better camera phone, the amaze will probably be the one to go with

I'd like to see a full review of the Amaze by Anandtech. HTC's camera is decent at best, and the Sensation falls in that category. No comparison to the quality of the pictures used by the SGS2 sensor. The Amaze has some neat functions but that's irrelevant if it doesn't take high quality pics. Curious to see how they've done in improving 1080p recording.
By the way, how was the call quality of the Hercules? Was it better than the Sensation?
This phone was supposed to be HTC's breakthrough from their seriously crappy (and that's an understatement) speakers with what was marketed as Hi-Fi! audio or something like that. My goodness they still suck balls. I always thought I barely use the external speakers anyway so I wouldn't care, but I have been needing them more than previously thought (mainly for watching random YouTube videos). The camera is also crap compared to what photos on an SGSII look like =-O
The only thing the Amaze would have over the SGSII would be the qHD resolution, imo. Those are things I would look over though in return for an AMAZING camera (there is no question Samsung phones have the best cameras out there), an AMAZING external speaker, and the reigning champ of displays aka the Super Amol... you know.
It's a no-brainer dude. Wait on the SGSII.

They are using the same sensor, but the Amaze (using the same one as the myTouch 4G Slide) has a wider lens. The speaker on the SGS II isn't that great either according to Anand Tech. Just slightly better than the Sensation's.
Really? The speaker on my Vibrant was miles ahead of the one on my Sensation. I doubt they would take a step back from it..

Here's the part about the camera:
So we now know that inside SGS2 is either a Sony IMX105, or Samsung S5K3H2YX sensor. This is basically the same exact camera lottery situation that the MyTouch 4G Slide [same as Amaze 4G] is in, as it in fact has the same two exact sensors listed, though F/2.2 optics. Both are basically the same on paper and should offer similar performance - 1/3.2“ size, 1.4µm backside illuminated pixels, and 8.13 MP (3264 x 2448).
