[Q] Master Reset, cache wipe after update - T-Mobile LG G2x

How do you do a master reset? I read turn off, then turn on and hold power and volume up at the same time, but nothing happens. I am not rooted so I can't get into recovery (or don't know how to) with ROM Manager.
Or do I just do the factory reset in settings and clear it out that way?

[Q] Restore to factory system wipe

Hey guys,
I've got a Transformer on the way, and when it arrives, I plan on installing all sorts of crap on it to figure out which apps I like best. Once I've determined that, I'd like to completely wipe my system clean and installing only the apps I liked best.
So my question is: how does one completely reset the system (complete filesystem wipe) and restore it to the way it was when I unboxed it.
you go into the bootloader and do factory reset.

Thanks, seshmaru. I'm glad it's that simple. This does wipe the cache and everything else, right?

I don't think it wipes cache, but I know a hard shutdown (holding power for 10~15 seconds) does wipe it.

Great! So a hard shut down (holding power for 10-15 seconds) followed by going into the bootloader (VOL_DOWN + POWER [continue holding VOL_DOWN when it starts booting until you get a prompt]) and doing a 'Data Wipe' should theoretically get me to a brand new state, right?
Yessir, it should.
Awesome. Thank you very much for the help.
You can also initiate it from the settings in android and it wipes all data you had put on it, leaving all system files, so it's like a fresh start.

Yeah this works. Just did it, wipes (all user) cache and data. settings/privacy/factory data reset. It took about 2mins.
I've try to do this but at the end when press VOL_UP the screen shows android logo with exhalation mark at middle of the logo.
Any idea for this?

once you see the words at the top left corner, if you push Vol up within about 5 sec you'll get the stock recovery which you are seeing. Do the same thing, Vol down plus power button but wait a tad bit till you see the reboot/clear data option.

[Q] Safe to hand over non-responding phone for repair?

hi guys. I have a nexus s i9023, it was running well with 2.3.4 for three months. Got an OTA update for 2.3.6 two days ago, installed it.Im running stock, and the root is locked.
Everything seemed to be running fine when last night it just stopped responding and freezing. Taking battery out doesnt help, it again freezes at the colorful x logo or at the unlock screen.
I read on how to do a reset, but pressing volume down and power button gives me only a flash of blacklight (for a millisecond) and then nothing happens. tried it many times. What am I doing wrong? Pressing volume up and power button gives me a fastboot menu, and recovery mode only gives me an exclamation mark android, then I have to take battery out again.
Also, if I hand in my phone to the dealer for repair (its under warranty), are they locked out too or can they access my data when they repair it? Please help.
Volume down and power doesn't do anything. You have to use volume UP and power.
Also what do you mean"root is locked?"
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
apologies matt, it says the lock state = locked, when i press volume up and power button.
the options i get are reboot bootloader, reboot, recovery and power off.
please tell me how to go about formatting/wiping my nexus s? also, if i cant wipe it, is it a good idea to hand it over with my data in it to the dealer for warranty claim i.e. can they access my data?

You can wipe the phone from recovery. Go into recovery then when it loads press power + volume up.

HELP neded! adhell 3 bricked my device...

.... actually i think it was my fault.
I run a stock german t-mobile s7 wich was recently updated to OREO
I managed to install adhell 3 which worked fine as an adblocker. One nasty T-mobile app kept draining my battery so i decided to enable the app-disabler on the home screen of adhell3. Unfortunately this seemed to have disabled all apps , including all system apps. Now i am stuck in a bootloop.
Can anyone give me some guidance how to resurrect my phone?
I am in vacations right now.... and i would really appreciated having a working smartphone again...
Thank you in advance...
ok.... i can´t even factory reset it.....I can however go into odin mode...

Because you can't go into recovery mode when you stuck in a bootloop, following option should help: flash your stock recovery, TWRP recovery or any other recovery for your device you want via Odin. After Odin is done and after the screen goes off you have to imadiately press volume down, power and home button. Now you are in recovery mode and you can factory reset your device. If you don't have a PC near you, you have to wait until you battery is empty, charge it and then you can go into recovery mode and do a factory reset.
Thanks for the answer!
On my device i could somehow mange to enter the factory reset from the odin screen. But i have no clue what i actually did? Do i have to reinstall oreo now? If my google backup is older than the error i produced i guess it is save to reset the device from there no?

At first, I have to correct myself. I meant volume up, not volume down for recovery mode.
Factory reset from Odin screen? What do you mean? What did you do? And if you did a factory reset and can start and use your phone normally again, everything should be okay. I can't answer your last question because I have no idea.

You will have to wait until your battery discharge fully after that you can enter in recovery mode by pressing volume up, home button and power keys simultaneously. I have gone through this too.

Galaxy tab A 2016 (SM-T585) backlight not working after security update

I just downloaded and installed newest security update (2018-06-**) for my device. After restart screen just went black. When i plug in to charge it, it vibrates, so it is working. Tried force restarting with Power + VolDown, it restarts, but you can only barely make out even the samsung logo when restarting because the backlight does not light up. I tried going into system recovery mode but i just can't see anything... What should i do now?

Find screenshots of stock recovery from devices just like yours, then use that screenshot as a guide when you boot into recovery, look at the screenshot and look at the list of options in stock recovery. You're looking for the "wipe cache partition" option. Starting from the top of the list, count down the list until you get to the factory reset option. Now boot to stock recovery, then press the volume down button the same number of times as what you counted from the screenshot. For example, in the screenshot, if "wipe cache partition" is the third option on the list, just press the volume down button three times, this should put you on the wipe cache partition option, then press power, it should do the wipe. Then try rebooting.
If that doesn't help, use the screenshot again as a guide to use the "factory reset" option" by counting down the list then pressing volume down that many times then press power to do the reset then reboot.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to flash your stock firmware via PC.
