So my phone went into safe mode yesterday and I cant get it out of it.
I have tried wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and reflash ROM.
I have tried holding the volume up button and power on it beeps 3x and the green light just stays on.
I had this happen one time before and i got out of it but dont remember.
You guys know any other ways.

How do you do a master reset? I read turn off, then turn on and hold power and volume up at the same time, but nothing happens. I am not rooted so I can't get into recovery (or don't know how to) with ROM Manager.
Or do I just do the factory reset in settings and clear it out that way?

yup, the way in setting will do just fine.
hi guys. I have a nexus s i9023, it was running well with 2.3.4 for three months. Got an OTA update for 2.3.6 two days ago, installed it.Im running stock, and the root is locked.
Everything seemed to be running fine when last night it just stopped responding and freezing. Taking battery out doesnt help, it again freezes at the colorful x logo or at the unlock screen.
I read on how to do a reset, but pressing volume down and power button gives me only a flash of blacklight (for a millisecond) and then nothing happens. tried it many times. What am I doing wrong? Pressing volume up and power button gives me a fastboot menu, and recovery mode only gives me an exclamation mark android, then I have to take battery out again.
Also, if I hand in my phone to the dealer for repair (its under warranty), are they locked out too or can they access my data when they repair it? Please help.
Volume down and power doesn't do anything. You have to use volume UP and power.
Also what do you mean"root is locked?"

apologies matt, it says the lock state = locked, when i press volume up and power button.
the options i get are reboot bootloader, reboot, recovery and power off.
please tell me how to go about formatting/wiping my nexus s? also, if i cant wipe it, is it a good idea to hand it over with my data in it to the dealer for warranty claim i.e. can they access my data?

You can wipe the phone from recovery. Go into recovery then when it loads press power + volume up.

What you need to do is go into recovery, the wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe davik and wipe battery stats.
Reboot and you should be stock
s-off
my htc haven't image on display
it vibrates after 12-15 seconds and sound of quietly brilliant about 3-4 minutes, sometimes not
in device manager the phone is seen as HTC Android Phone USB Device, under Disk Drives
is creeping me out, i don't know what it must be done
Bootloader
Have you tried booting into bootloader?
If so, boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup, then "wipe data/factory reset" and try booting it.
might restore the data later under advanced restore...
Hope this helps you out

thank you for answer
that was the first thing done
now i observed much weird situations
try to put into boot -> vol down+power ; does not start into boot
just vibrates and presume starts normaly
when it is pluged into computer or charger red led show very very low light, visible only in dark
plugin out led not off, same low light
how can i roll back in stock rom in this situation? is another way to plug into computer to flash?
is seen when fully start only under disk drives like htc android phone usb device
and it shocked me, when i put a sim in it, after starts (about 5-6-7 minutes) i can make a call from other phone to it
the screen is ok, i tried on another phone

you could try using a app to boot into recovery, like rom manager
Wait, wait, wait.. Can you see anything on your display? Does it even power on? If not, I'd say take it to a service.
*You should at least see the bootloader. That's not ROM related.
1. Do a "Factory data reset" through Settings>SD and phone storage>Factory data reset
2. power off
3. remove battery
4. reinsert battery
5. THEN vol down+power to get to recovery
6. In CWM go to "advanced"
7. wipe battery stats
8. wipe davlik cache
9. back to main cwm menu
10. wipe cache partition
11. wipe data/ factory reset
12. should be done, but you could repeat 6-10 to be safe.
both Alex just read the replays my friends
i cannot say same word over and over again
could be a short on motherboard? said that becaouse of the red led whitch just stay barely visible just after push power and stay like that all over the time
could be a battery issue?
or just be the display however?
i can receive call after it's starts completely, after 7 to 10 minutes, but i cannot see anything on screen
Drop it to the service.. Why wait so much? If you can't see anything on your display, not even the bootloader, or even the display powering on..

you're right
I booted into Recovery (using home button, power button and vol up) and did a factory reset and wiped the cache, I then clicked reset device. My phone will power on but it hangs at the white screen with the ATT Ball on it. It has been sitting on this screen for 5 minutes and the power light flashes.
What do I need to do in order to fix my device?
I just downloaded and installed newest security update (2018-06-**) for my device. After restart screen just went black. When i plug in to charge it, it vibrates, so it is working. Tried force restarting with Power + VolDown, it restarts, but you can only barely make out even the samsung logo when restarting because the backlight does not light up. I tried going into system recovery mode but i just can't see anything... What should i do now?

Find screenshots of stock recovery from devices just like yours, then use that screenshot as a guide when you boot into recovery, look at the screenshot and look at the list of options in stock recovery. You're looking for the "wipe cache partition" option. Starting from the top of the list, count down the list until you get to the factory reset option. Now boot to stock recovery, then press the volume down button the same number of times as what you counted from the screenshot. For example, in the screenshot, if "wipe cache partition" is the third option on the list, just press the volume down button three times, this should put you on the wipe cache partition option, then press power, it should do the wipe. Then try rebooting.
If that doesn't help, use the screenshot again as a guide to use the "factory reset" option" by counting down the list then pressing volume down that many times then press power to do the reset then reboot.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to flash your stock firmware via PC.
