Version 2
NOTE: A problem has been detected with the recovery used in the Gummy Charged ODIN file. When using this recovery and trying to install this kernel, it will reboot the phone during installation, which is not good. This isn't a problem with the kernel, but a problem with the recovery. If you believe you are using this recovery, please flash the ODIN recovery below.

NOTE: There is no overclocking or core performance optimization made with this kernel. We do not currently have source to allow for such adventures and therefore you may see performance evaluations lesser than prior OS releases. If you acknowledge this, then you are also acknowledging the fact that you are by flashing this kernel running a cutting edge piece of software. As such, you should not expect nor fathom to be entitled to such performance characteristics of the aforementioned.

It's possible I just put it up, though the DL links appear OK for me.

If we flash this, is there a way to return to the stock ep1f kernel easily? Like a cwm flashable zip?
I want to test but only if I can revert

You could use p3droids odin maker to back up kernal.

Flashed using CWM 4.0.0.8, phone rebooted in 5 seconds, sat at the Samsung logo for a bit, and then booted up normal into Gummy GB. The FS is listed as RFS when I typed 'mount' in a terminal emulator.

did these in this order even before you posted them but wondered 2 things will it matter if I used the first all ext4 format zip you posted and 2ndly how long are you supposed to experience the "boot loop"

I wouldn't use this on froyo, it's a kernel specifically for EP1F Gingerbread, you'll just get yourself caught in a boot loop.

This worked. Thanks a bunch.

Sorry but what is ext4 formatter?
Edit: found it

Thanks for all the hard work!
I use my charge for a lot of tethering and when using the builtin hotspot it shows up as

Nice effects and looking smooth! Great work!

Are you planning to include the ability for a custom boot animation?

So I followed the steps outlined above, and now whenever I restart my phone, the initial Android setup wizard starts. All of my settings are intact, and even a new launcher is not stopping this. Any ideas?

Does anyone know why it wont boot past the screen with the white samsung logo the logo just flickers on then off?

[KERNEL] DK28 Dual Filesystem EXT4+RFS Kernel

Alright guys. Here ya have it.
This kernel will boot on both RFS and EXT4, and will bridge the gap for migrating between EXT4 and RFS.
All ROM developers should use this kernel until we have an official OTA.
It contains the ability to boot via RFS OR EXT4, boot animation support, AND init.d support.
Have fun guys. I'm really tired, and this is my last update for the night.

Do we apply this via clockwork, then a ROM ?
If you are just doing the ext4 mod, then flash rom, then kernel.
It will be up to ROM developers to add this to their rom, so things will be smoother for everyone.
battery life good ?

Well first, you shouldn't be fornatting your sd card...I've been read the other thread since the beginning and unless he changed it while I was sleeping no one ever mentioned that...
But...I'm guessing you follow the same exact steps as in the other thread, except you use thise kernel at the end.
My question is I'm surprised its just a kernel change to give us dual boot...and not a modified prepare.zip? I thought that mod would get rid of all rfs...or maybe the kernel just "reads" rfs but still performs everything in ext4

So I'm on Quantum 2.5 w/ext4. Got there via stock DK28 odin, root, then ext4, then ROM flash.
Everything went well, but I can't access the newer .2 recovery any way except via adb. Is there any kind of fix for this, or workaround so that I can access that recovery without being near a computer? TIA.
Going to the .0 recovery, advanced, Reboot Recovery hangs on the Samsung screen.

No you do not! He made this so you can run his rom on any of the two file systems. Without this you would have had to do the ext4 mod. Know you can flash his new rom without formatting to ext4. By the way if you can do the mod then do it. My phone is just purring with the new file system. I won't say its a night and day difference since my phone always ran well but it is definitely noticable! The phone feels snappier, more responsive in every way. Thanks for this Dameon, truly Epic!

I am also on Quantum 2.5 with ext4. When I use quick boot to reboot into recovery, it goes to 2.5.1.2 with no problem. Have you tried getting quick boot from the market?
Hmm, nope, still hung at Samsung. After using either Quick Boot or ROM Manager to attempt to boot recovery and getting stuck, I have to enter CWM (.0) and select "Reboot" to get it back up properly.
I must have missed something along the way, I guess I'll try this whole deal again. Thanks for the help though guys.
One more quick general question, since I have everything set up in Quantum 2.5 the way I like, if I start over, can I "Restore Data" and it will be right back where it was when I started, once I get this right?
Is it possible for you to make RaiserFs kernel?
I read on Evo xda forums that this guy made Raiserfs rom and people are saying that they got huge speed boost from Ext4.

Your nose deceives you. The score is based purely on the filesystem io. This does not use a tmpfs hack. The ext4 is a full filesystem replacement for rfs. Do your homework.

[FROYO-ODIN] Leak USCC Mesmerize Froyo EA11 Stock + Root

So here's what Samsung has been sitting on for the last few months..

I present to you an 'official' build including the kernel, radio, and full-blown froyo tastiness, for the USCC Samsung Mesmerize. Pre-rooted for your convenience, just download and flash with the latest version of ODIN. These are stock images plus root so your phone will function as if you just turned it on for the first time, albeit with a finger that magically instills root powers into any device you touch..
README
Step 0.5: I recommend disabling the Voodoo Lagfix before doing any of this. You need your sdcard partitioned normally. Let me repeat: Disable the Voodoo Lagfix if you are using a Voodoo kernel prior to flashing the Odin files.
Step 1
Download ODIN here: Odin v1.3
Step 2
Install the Samsung USB drivers: 64bit | 32bit
Step 3
WARNING: These files are for the USCC Samsung Mesmerize. Do NOT flash these to another device.
Download the ODIN package: USCC Froyo [ODIN]
Step 4
Unzip the ODIN package and you will find two files. One ends in tar.md5 This is the ODIN package that you will flash to your device. The other file ends in .pit. This file is a configuration file of sorts for your device. It is not needed unless you have trouble.
Step 5
Backup the data on your device. You are going to lose it.
Step 5.5
Backup the data on your device. It is not coming back.
Step 6
Open up ODIN. Load the tar.md5 file into the PDA section.
Step 7
Put your phone into download mode. The easiest way to do this is to issue the "reboot download" command from adb. If you don't have adb installed, simply download the attached adb.zip. Extract the files to a new folder and open up a command prompt in that folder by holding down shift then right-clicking inside the folder window. There will be a menu entry "Open command window here". Select it. Then, type "adb reboot download" (no quotes) and press enter. If this fails you need to turn on USB debugging on your device and try again. Settings>Applications>Development:Enable USB Debugging
For more information on ADB I strongly recommend reading the "ADB Workshop" by Adrynalyne and Captainkrtek.
Alternatively, you can power your phone off. Hold down the "Volume Down" button and plug in the USB cable (make sure the other end is plugged into the computer first).
If all is successful, you should see a yellow triangle around a hard-working android and the words 'Downloading... Do not turn off target' (also in yellow).
*Step 8*
Once your phone is in download mode it should pop up in ODIN. Once ODIN has found the device, make sure you have the tar.md5 file loaded in PDA from step 6, and press START! ODIN will begin flashing your device. After a few minutes it should reboot into recovery, flash some text, and reboot again into Froyo! If all goes well, the white box in ODIN will turn green (=
Troubleshooting
Lag or low quadrant score: re-flash using the .pit file
Odin doesn't recognize your phone: install the Samsung USB drivers and reboot
Odin says checksum failed: re-download package and try again
Looking Forward
That's all! You will need to setup your phone again like you did when you first got it. While annoying, it's worth it! Once you have everything setup you're good to go. Check back periodically for Froyo ROMs and customizations. There are already some on the way and many more coming since Froyo has been out for awhile -_-

[ROOT] [KERNEL] [RECOVERY] - Root / Voodoo Lagfix / CWM Recovery

Hi all
Whipped this up for a friend. Thought we'd be nice and share
These packages will work on any current sw version for the Charge.
Please find below kernel and recovery packages hacked for the following:
permanent adb root
installs Superuser and su binary automatically on boot
includes Voodoo ext4 lagfix - CREDIT TO SUPERCURIO! http://project-voodoo.org/lagfix
lowmemorykiller tweaks
sdcard readahead cache speed tweak
If you are using Odin to flash, simply flash the below package. If you are using Heimdall, remove the zImage file from the below package and flash it.
After flashing the first time, you will hear a voice from the phone telling you what is occurring. The conversion to ext4 will take a few minutes. BE PATIENT. Once it boots, Superuser should be installed, and your phone's filesystem will be converted from rfs to ext4. To disable Voodoo lagfix and convert back to rfs, simply create a file on your sdcard inside the Voodoo folder, named "disable-lagfix". Then reboot your phone and listen for the voices again. This will also take a few minutes.
Please familiarize yourself with using Odin or Heimdall and have backup images on-hand if you are going to use this kernel. If you screw up, you will need them
I DO NOT have a Charge, these files have been tested by other users. As always I assume absolutely NO liability for anything that happens if you use this kernel. Phone blows up? It's on you to fix it
If you find this software helpful please click the "Thanks" or the "Donate" button. Either is fine by me. If you would like to investigate the changes that were made, please feel free to find them here, and here.
Enjoy.
EDIT
Uploaded 2nd version
EDIT
Uploaded 3rd version

UNTESTED!
EDIT
Uploaded 4th version
Confirmed root from independent user!
rewrote install process to preserve file path and permissions
will look into the bootanimation graphics issue
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14764513/VoodooChargeKernel4.tar.md5
EDIT
Uploaded additional recovery file
Flashes custom version of ClockworkMod recovery 3.x
Recovery includes Voodoo specific options for enabling/disabling Voodoo lagfix
Flash with Odin or Heimdall just like the kernel files
HAS BEEN LIGHTLY TESTED! USE CAUTION AND HAVE A BACKUP!
if you do not have root:
* check adb shell and see if you get a '#' prompt. If so, you *have* root on adb, and you may install whatever you want in /system
* check to see if Superuser app is installed
* check to see if /system/xbin/su exists on your phone.
If you have problems, please post the results of those checks. Thanks.
LLGW. Headed to bed now but first thing in the morning, I wondering what I'm doing
Thanks jt!!!! Can't wait to flash this once my charge comes in the mail.

What verison of odin should I use? I just flashed this and it failed.
using odin3 v1.3 and failed too..
phone wont boot, had to reflash ed1
The kernel flash was successful, and the filesystem conversion took about 8 minutes to run. However, I was not rooted when the phone booted back up. Here is what I did, let me know if I missed a step:
Start on rooted ED1
Accept ED2 OTA
Lose Root
Flash new kernel using ODIN
After ~10 minutes, phone boots successfully, but I do not have root.

Keep trying. I finally got it to flash with 1.30. Seems to be booting. On boot it did not change the file system, it just booted normally.
Edit:I just put in my spare battery and it is now converting the file system. The other battery was probably too low.
Where's my wifi? Anyone else facing an error when attempting to start wifi?
Yeah it looks like it killed wifi. I also am not rooted.
So if I flash back to rooted ED1 will it wipe my data?

Updated OP with a new version. Anyone who has flashed the original version, please check adb shell and see if you get a '#' prompt. If you do, then you're technically rooted

What is needed if you want this on your device:
- phone need to be s-off + rooted
- you need recovery to install this
- you need to create 2 partitions on your sd card using an tool like "MiniTool Partition Wizard" (first partition need to be primary fat32 and seccond need to be primary ext4 (becouse I enabled apps2sd))! Do not create extended partition, all must be primary or instalation will be unsucesfull!!!
- install recovery and wipe everything using recovery (boot, sd-ext, cache, data, system)
- delete all android folders from your sd card and copy zip to sd card
- than install rom zip using recovery
After installing and runing your new rom:
- go to settings/aplication/all/google service framework and force stop + clear data!
- go to settings/aplication/all/settings and clear data!
- reboot!
What working:
- apps2sd enabled, cpu owerclock is default set to interactive|245min|806max
- video working, camera, camcorder, wifi, gps, bluetooth, data...
What not working:
- I don't know, please let me know
Kernel chagelog:
EDIT 20.Feb.2012:
- added nand partition (full nand size part) so you can dump whole nand
- enabled swap
- fixed lightsensor levels
- owerclocked video hw for better response
- some kernel fixes
- added cpu governors (SCARY, SAVAGEDZEN, SMARTASS and SMARTASS2)
EDIT 02.Mar.2012:
- reenabled interactive governor
- some changes in power management (now smallest battery drain!)
- 13 cpu frequencies (including 19mhz)
EDIT 09.Mar.2012:
- zram module added (will create init script in next update)
- genirq: pm: Fix the enable ordering in resume
How to install? Simple go to recovery, erase boot, flash boot_update.zip from attachment. Kernel is compatible with cm7! Please let me know how it working in your device!
Enjoy with CM7 + GoLauncher
Ahh some competition ehh? ;D

Sweet. I like options specially being that ive never tried go launcher. I'll have to try this out...a crazy thought......I wish somebody would whip up some kernel action. Just a thought for you devs out there.
Kernel is updated, see first post!
Anyone tried updated kernel?
I did. Installed over CM7.2 KANG 2012-02-20 build. I wanted to try Smartass and Smartass2 governors. No improved battery life noticed, but i'm too lazy to uninstall it and as no bugs discovered so far i currently live with this kernel
ext4 partition size?

Do you have a suggestion on how large to make the primary ext4 partition for apps2sd? Thanks.
How large? Its based on your needs!
New boot image updated... see changelog on first page!
So Im on the new nightly and would like to try your kernel. so do I format boot in recovery and flash the download? or cant I just wipe cache and dalvik then flash your boot_image file? thxs.

initial repo from here -> https://github.com/CyanogenMod/htc-kernel-msm7227 and patch in attachment + files... maybe this changes will work better in your kernel? What battery current value is in sleep mode in your kernel?
Thxs....just to clarify, there is no clear boot option in CW. Sorry that im a knuckle head & not getting this. Just excited 2 try new kernel, munjeni. There's A format boot option so I tried that and flashed the zip and it boot looped. Never booted up. Back to my nandriod . Well hellooo Mr. Drowningchild!! Nice to see that your going to maybe implicate some cool changes in your kernel. Hope it works out.

ok, but its boot update for cm 7.2! If you want, maybe try to replace init.d folder from my aria cm build and try if it will boot? In any way I have plan to create new custom build with go launcher + latest cm7. Whats new in cm7 rc2 ?
Rc2 nightly? not much but I do wanna say that I'm loving your kernel. Running 128/806 MHz on smartassV2. I finally got rid off setcpu and finally have a phone that goes to sleep in screen off. Also no lag after an hour say when the phone rings from screen off. Currently on rc2 newest nightly.
Thanks dude, from your "plot" I see there is unused frequencies, for example 128mhz (i think some frequencies not exist!), 19mhz and 864 working but device sometimes rebooting phone so I will play with 19 and 864 (will try to see what frequency cause device reboot)....etc, but "sleep mode" is 70% good now (in a morning when I wakeup my device I seen 4mA battery current value so its good thing, device going to deep sleep mode!) but other 30% (for example when device go to sleep for 5 minutes, when I wake up device, current value is 50mA so it mean is not in deep sleep becouse some of "components" is not in sleep mode...etc... will try to fix that 30% things about...
In any way its better than before, battery drain in sleep mode after "night to morning" is about 5% of the capacity, so its very good
I have to say....i've totally ditched launcher pro for go launcher. after you set up go launcher.....yeah it takes a bit but its just like launcher pro but much more options. so its worth it. also, no more crappy reboots and have to force close LP. go launcher has some nifty widgets too with SUPPORT. i think the launcher pro dude took a long deep vacation. Gonna flash this ROM on my wifes being that i got her a new aria. . im a cheaP a$$. keep you guys posted.
Kernel updated, changelog is in first page
zram -doesnt- need to be build as a module, built in works fine for our device
and you shouldnt need a script for it there already is one, 'compcache' in /bin and cmsettings.
the only thing i see for a change there would be the swappiness, defaults to 30, which from what ive always seen was it was being unused
The only issue i am having is play market wont download or update apps. My mom and wife both on same wifi have no problems. Im not sure if its this rom or what. Other data works fine.

Yes, its something about enabled apps2sd but problem fixed when you go to applications/all/google service framework/force stop/clean data/reboot

AROMA Edition
I have released my paid app that will let you easily unlock your phone with a native Android app at the touch of a button! If you have trouble using my free unlock methods the app will be able to unlock your phone even if the unlock code did not work.
Check the app thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243585
I've been meaning to make a foolproof script that works in AROMA and in any ROM/Kernel combination. This project provides just that, a zip file that's flashable in recovery that gets you your carrier unlock code easily and quickly. No need to install extra apps or mess around with hex editors on your computer.

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow thanks FB
Worked beautifully on CM9 with TWRP! Thanks so much FB!
If anyone can test this on gingerbread roms that would be great! Thanks. Please reply here with what rom/kernel/CWM (or twrp) version you were using.

I just tried this with stock GB, AntonX Basic with a Twist kernel CWM v5.0.2.8. When I flash the unlocker it brings me through the FB splash screen to the "Press Next to continue" screen. Once I press Next, it kicks me back into CWM. I've tried this multiple times with the same result.
On Valhalla Black FB CWM voodoo Lagfix Recovery v5.0.2.7. Goes into the AROMA Unlocker, I press next and it returns me back to the recovery menu. I think I'll try TWRP unless you say otherwise.
Yeah I didn't test much in GB. Thanks for the reports guys. I'll try to flash to GB soon to check what's going on.
Using slim ics with pimp my Rom tweaks, kg4 modem and jefe kod v3b kernel....the first time it just rebooted my phone, did it again and it gave me the code. Awesome job Fb.

It worked awesome! Updated to CM 9 and it worked like a charm! Thanks!
Hey FB, Im running the latest AOKP release with TWRP and i couldn't get it to flash. It kept telling me it failed with no explanation and only 3 options; wipe cache, reboot system, home
Hi, I need some testers for the unlocker android app I'm making.
I need people who can verify whether or not a phone has been locked/unlocked (this means that you'll need a working non-tmobile sim card)
Make sure you have a backup of /efs before you do anything else!
Please come by #teamacid for more details, here are the instructions on how to join our channel:

This was the method that worked for me after the other method gave me an error message saying" Busybox was not installed correctly......"

I am running the stock firmware with a slightly modified kernel and CWM-based voodoo Lagfix Recovery v.5.0.2.7. I used an inactive AT&T sim card. My carrier is T-Mobile and it appears to
be unlocked, although I haven't yet verified it through using an active AT&T or any sim other than T-Mobile.
Thank You FB for Your Magic Again
EDIT> I flash another kernel (AntonX Basic with a Twist SGS4G KJ6 1.1.3 kernel) All locks still read "OFF".

what kernel did you use to get the unlock code? or where you using AntonX Basic with a Twist SGS4G KJ6 1.1.3 kernel from the start?
i have the same kernel with stock rom and root ..... all it does it once i hit next ... it kicks me out to recovery screen
You can always try the script that uses busybox and smanager which doesn't require you to be in recovery and I have tested under gingerbread
