[q] usb not recognized - HTC Inspire 4G

anyone else have this problem?
I have the latest HTC Driver.
When I first got my phone it was perfectly normal until I rooted my phone. I would have to try plugging and unplugging the Stock HTC USB multiple times for my computer to recognize my phone. It is getting pretty annoying. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem as well. (doesnt matter which ROM I use, problem continues.)

You sure it's not the cable ?
Or, perhaps the usb port connector on the phone, or the one you're trying to plug into could have loose/damaged contacts?
Obviously, somethings changed or different. Try to replicate as many of the conditions that you had when it did work, as you can.

i have three HTC phone charger. 2 of them are in perfect condition, brand new, and they both still give me the same problem. maybe, something is wrong with my phone inside?

I'm talking about the cable itself, and maybe that's what you are talking about when you say "htc phone charger."
As far as "something wrong with your phone inside," you perhaps are missing or not understanding what I'm referring to.
Look at your phone up close at the part where you plug it in. Real close. You should see 4 little metal strips... Contacts. I was trying to suggest for you to check if there was a physical issue, loose, bent connector on the cable or on that part of the phone.
Or, on the connector of the port on the computer you were trying to connect it to.
The fact that you have to do it several times for it to recognize, but that it at least DOES eventually recognize it, made me suspect it's something intermittent, like a bad/loose connector, or a cable that has one of the wires inside it broken.
I don't know what other than something having to do with the usb connector on the phone, possibly where it's soldered to the PCB, that would cause it to intermittently give you problems.

To anyone with an LG Quantum

Hello everyone,
I have 2 LG Quantum's, and whenever they're plugged in to my PC via USB, if I (even barely) move the micro-USB cable attached to both of the phones, it rapidly disconnects then reconnects to the computer. This has proved problematic when installing XAP's. I find it strange that both of my models do this, and would like to know if anyone else with a Quantum has the same issue? This way I'll know if it's either my USB cable or both of the phones just having a bad port.
Thanks in advance,
6-4.
I have an LG Quantum and the same thing you described happens to me when the USB cable is plugged into my laptop. But when the USB cable is plugged into a wall charger, tapping the cable doesn't disconnect the phone.
I'm using the microUSB cable that AT&T included with the phone, I don't know if that makes a difference...
I've never seen this on my LG Quantum.
Did it ever work properly on either?
It sounds hardware related. Are you always carefule when plugging and unplugging it, so that it is straight.
Do you use the same cable on the same laptop for both?
I know i just leave my cable connected to the laptop all the time.
Could be a bad cable. Try a new one or one from a friend that does not have the problem. Micro USB is on pretty much every phone, except iPhones now.
If it's only a problem for xaps. You could start using the website to install, which will install any app over the air or through WiFi. Or are you sideloading?
I had this happen to my HD7. The root cause was really silly: lint in the USB port (from keeping it in my pocket so much). Turn off the phone, remove the battery, get some good light and a sewing needle (or similar), and gently clean out the USB port. It doesn't have to be perfect, just enough that the little locking nubs on the USB cable can engage. That will let it keep a reliable connection.
I have the LG Quantum and have not seen this at all.

I thought this was for custom ROM's only? How do I do it?

This sounds like a possibility. I'll check that out later when I get home. I'm not entirely sure if it always happened, but it seems to me that it did. And re: other user who always has the issue, mine also works fine when plugged in to the wall.
He was talking about sideloading. For installing official apps directly, you can either use the Marketplace website or just use the Marketplace app on the phone. There's no need to use Zune for that, so I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant.

I am talking about side loading. I looked into the ports and found they are clean. Both phones use the same USB cable however I've tested them with others before with the same result.
Well after my microUSB cable was noticeably frayed I have replaced it, and am able to confirm that was the source of my problems.

[Q] “Loose" usb port?

Just wondering if anyone else's usb cable is a little bit "shaky" after being plugged in? I guess it's normal since i don't have any poor contact issue so far, but ...it's kinda annoying..
Sorry if you didn't notice it before but you do now
ye my last android did that too. after using the micro usb port a few times it gets "shaky"-er haha

My Epic 4G Touch is the same exact way. However, I never had this issue with my Evo. Wonder if its an issue with the ports on Samsung phones.
I have found taking a pair of pliers and adding some slight pressure to the end of the usb cable has helped tighten things up. Make sure you are squeezing the entire connector and not using needle nose.

Its funny that you mention that because the looseness seems to be more dependent on the actual USB cable than the port itself (at least on this phone) Luckily, I haven't had any real connection problems with my phone. However, after replacing the cable, it seems to fit more snugly. Either way, its a little odd that it the same cable will seem more loose in this phone, but fit just fine in my previous one (still have it as a spare).
I've been having this problem lately also. Thinking in was a bug in the rom or a bad cable, the problem persists and its getting worse to the point it constantly will connect and disconnect repeatedly. I'm thinking its the phone because I've changed cables, usb ports and it still does it. But sometimes it will stick normally. Wierd...
If you have even tried brand new cables (since your existing ones may be worn out), then I would say that the port on the phone is likely damaged. Looks like it may be time for a service center repair.
My SR is the same way. The mini usb cocksoff to the right. I've experienced the same with a few Motos. I've came to the conclusion it is the cables themselves. I have noticed that the two teeth on the male plug get kind of wore out or not even pop back out and furthermore eventually damage the female port to where the phone will cycle from power to no power. I've especially seen this with OEM cables. I also saw a thread here where the guy gives an awesome, detailed breakdown of a screen replacement. The site he links has the replacement chip with the mini usb port if you feel froggy...

USB port seems to have a bad connection... can i return for a free fix / replacement?

I have had a UK SII since launch (originally on O2) but rooted and now using CM9.
Ive noticed recently that my charger needed to be wiggled a bit in the port for the phone to start charging.
Now it seems to have gotten worse and now i have to have the plug tilted in the usb port at a certain angle and apply pressure to it for it to start charging. Ive tested with 4 different leads. Connected to my laptop and phone keeps on flicking to usb debugging message so i am presuming the connections in the usb port are faulty.
Ive also cleaned a load of fluff out from it and its still the same.
The phone is just under a year old... so im hoping its covered for a 2 year cover like my old Sony Erricson phone.
Do you think they will repair this fault or make me pay due to excessive wear n tear?
I charge once a day over night, and dont use the port for much else apart from probably undre 20times connected to laptop.
Thanks
did you try the cable with something else than your phone? It looks like it's probably some broken part of the cable inside, but try anyway.
If it works fine with everything else it's your phone, if doesn't work with other things it's the cable and i'm not sure if they would replace it, because it could be your fault if it's the cable.

(Solved ) USB not working

Here is my case, I am now on stock 4.1.1
When I connect my nexus to my PC, it only charges. I can neither mount USB storage nor attaching to debug mode. What even worse is that, I can't even run fastboot command in bootloader, so basically I can't flash a custom recovery.
As a result, I am now stuck on stock ROM.
Can anyone please give me an idea to get my USB driver work, or at least to flash a recovery?
EDIT: I have used fast charge before, so will it screwed up or disable the USB driver? Any way to restore it in my case?
EDIT: Solved. The two USB line charges only
Can anyone help me?
I have tried two USB lines with two PCs, so I do think there is a problem of my phone.

Hello barrielui,
would you describe more information how you solved that issue? What do you exactly mean by last line? It's working only for "charging" or for data transfer (mass_storage) too? You've found new type of USB cabel or what?
Unfortunately have the exactly same issue few days after upgrade to JLB 4.1.1 stock Rom. It works properly few days and than from some reason something happen, but don't know what&why and how to fix it.
Think maybe it's a hardware problem, but how it happened is mystery
I had issues with my usb for a while myself, it just kept getting worse until I would not get a charge at all. Your issue may be different than mine, but I had my nexus s the first week it came out. I had already planned to have my phone sent in for repair on my usb, so I figured I could tinker with it. It turns out that the little tab in my charge port was pushed down (away from the screen when holding in hand) just enough that it would barely make contact with my micro usb cables. I used a tac and slipped it in between and carefully pried up a little.
Caution, this may not be your problem, look at other options, or compare your usb port to another phone to determine if it is it. My tab was just barely gaped from the bottom.
Solution
Try cleaning the Nexus port pins with something pointy...deposits on pins inside cellphone port prevents the usb contact..clean it one by one with a pin and tell me if it worked

It was a hardware issue with USB connector on motherboard on my case, but strange is that it was occurred when flashing to newer system.

[Q] Screen, Charging, and PC connection issues

Hello, a lot of weird things have started happening to my device lately.
The first occurrence was screen burn in, like on plasma TVs. If I look closely on a white background, I can see that the letters on my keyboard have lightly burned into the screen! A week or so later, the top bar of the Android SMS app has burned in as well. Does warranty cover this or anything?
The second major problem is charging. Before, I could be plugged into the wall and use my phone without draining my battery, at all. Now things have changed, I am losing battery, while charging!
The last thing is that my PC no longer recognizes my device.. Yes, I do have the USB drivers, they have always been installed and have been working fine. Just in case, I tried reinstalling them, didn't help. I plug in my USB and the phone starts charging, but I don't get that notification that I used to that a connection has been established with my computer. I have tried all my USB ports, nothing changes. I am unable to browse my device's file system.
I am not too concerned about the screen, but I am very worried about the charging/connection issue; they seem to be related.
My question is, what do you think is wrong? Is there a problem with the battery? The charging port? The USB cable? Maybe CleanROM has been corrupted in some way?
I should also mention that when unplugging my phone from the charging source, it seems to think it is still charging for up to a minute later.
And, if you move the device in a certain way when it is charging, it seems to lose connection to the charging source - the screen lights up and says it's not charging until you revert it to its original position.
Any replies are greatly appreciated!
Do you guys think this is a problem with the cable? I'd like to try buying a new one if this is the case.
Does anyone have a link to a genuine data cable for the i535? (preferably on Amazon) I want to make sure I buy the right one!
What you describe is typical of a failing charge port. The only other thing that will give the symptoms you describe is a bad charger. Try a different charger and if the same thing happens then you need a new port. You can buy a repair service for this on eBay for $25

Hi, I actually narrowed it down to the USB charging cable. I managed to dig up another one and it works just fine now.
That's the first USB cable I've ever had fail!

Nope, that's probably there to stay.
I doubt the problems were related.

I was thinking the same thing but I've seen chargers do some weird s**t if you're still under warranty that should be covered. Otherwise I would enable daydream in display settings. Its a fancy word for screensaver but obviously would benefit you.
